I used to use reminders on my iPhone all the time. It's such a great set up. I hate that Android/pixel doesn't have a good method for this. Their reminders set up is horrible. Ok, rant over.
Anyway, on top of everything, I don't get notifications for my rerminders. It used to hang up in the notification area with a finger + string tied around it, but no longer. Any advice why? I'm on a pixel 2, rooted, Verizon, 9.0

I've been happy with Calendar Snooze from the Play Store for several years: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bitfire.development.calendarsnooze&hl=en_US
I just use Google Assistant for reminders and have the option to see them in Google Calendars on. I get notified with Google Assistant just fine.

Yeah I just "Hey, Google", "Set a reminder to...". I do it for everything from checking the laundry, changing my razor blades, toothbrushes etc. to maintenance stuff like air conditioner filter, water filter, adding salt to the water softer.

I think EeZeEpEe is confused about a calendar or assistant reminder. They both do a reminder but have no option to snooze that reminder.
Calendar Snooze stopped working with Oreo, I think, but it was recently updated and has worked fine ever since. I started using it because the Android calendar stupidly doesn't have a snooze option. Calendar Snooze lets you set several different snooze times up to six hours unless you buy the paid version. It also has a default snooze time of five minutes in case you don't hear the first notification, which is great for me!
I use Business Calendar 2 Pro for many years, managing both Google (personal) and CalDAV (business) calendars. Works just fine, nice UI and reminders with snooze are always in sync.

I'm on my PC more than my phone so rather than using Assistant, I create my appointments and events in Outlook calendar and sync them to my Google calendar with Gsyncit. I usually set my appointment reminders up to two hours ahead so I'll know when to start getting ready, and then usually snooze them for 30 minutes at a time. I missed the snooze option that Outlook calendar has, so Calendar Snooze handles that very well.

I think what needs to get clarified is if the OP is talking about reminders or notifications for a calendar event. Because we're obviously talking about different things.

I'm saying two things:
1. Notifications for reminders (or calendar events) isn't working for me AT ALL. I have Nova launcher, I wonder if this is why? They don't show up on my lock screen or my notification bar.
2. I'm complaining about how sucky Google's "tasks" or "reminders" is compared to Apple's. Don't get me wrong, I don't like Apple, but their reminders app works so nice. It's the perfect to-do list app. Integrates with Siri, shows you a notification bubble for tasks you need to accomplish, allows you to easily snooze items, the reminder notification won't get cleared when you hit "clear all" (no anxiety about forgetting what was on your list), and integrates super well with OSX. It's amazing. Google has like 4 different "task"/"to-do"/"reminder" apps (google keep, google calendar, google tasks, etc.). I just wish they make Google Tasks into what Apple reminders is, integrated it with Google Assistant, and make the notifications/snooze options not terrible.

1. Maybe you actually turned off your notification bar notifications by accident?
2. Yeah they have a little bit too much going on. I just use Google Keep as my actual small notes and checklists and Google Assistant for reminders. Google Calendar I have the option checked to see the same Google Assistant reminders. Google Tasks I never used even when it first came out because it was redundant to what I already use.

It's possible you turned it off like with this option. You can check your settings in the system settings, "Apps & notifications". I doubt Nova Launcher is blocking your notifications.

You're checking in the Calendar app but what about Google? That's the screenshot I took of. Of course, that's only if you use Google Assistant to your reminders. I don't get reminders notifications with Google Calendar. That would be redundant.

As the title says really.
I have downloaded loads off the market place but all fall short.
I need a 4x1 widget that will display from my Exchange calendar and show my next couple of appointments.
The built in one seems to have a mind of it's own and gets confused when I have all day appointments/
I have found Smooth Calendar which is as close as I have found so far but it is clunky and slow.
Any suggestions?
i need one too i really miss the mini calendar view of sense ui!
Pure calendar is the best I found.

Have you tried Jorte?
ik like calwidget
i use jorte with no problems. tried it?
Jorte = No 4 x 1 option - Shame as it looks quite nice
Cal Widget = For some reason when in 4x1 mode it chops the last line of text short but besides that, looks OK (not sure if it any better than Smooth Calendar though)
Pure Calendar - Not tried that as it's a paid for app and so far I have resited the urge to pay for stuff on this phone.
there is always warez
Actually I realized there was a transparency option in Cal Widget so now it still chops off the bottom line but doesn't look as bad.
I am going to leave this on my home screen for a few days and see how it plays out.
Try Calendar pad Pro....
Try "android agenda widget"
I warmly recommand "Pure calendar" for the quality of the application and the skills of the dev. He is also working on an API to make scrollable widget, wich is essential for a calendar application.
If you don't want to spend 0.99Euros ( close to 1 dollar) for such a perfect application, you may try "Android agenda widget" that is free and the developer is really responsive and come with a lot of good stuff. I also suggest to donate because that worth.
Try to use gemini calendar. This is realy good calendar replacement and have simple widget.

I had the same criteria and after days of search I discovered the smooth calendar widget
It's 1 by 4, highly customizable (eg what calendars to display etc) and not cluttered with redundant skinning.
I already place two of the widgets for each my calendars...just because it's wicked.
+1 for Pure Calendar
I know you said you'd prefer a free app but this has many customisable features, with widget sizes to accommodate most screen layouts. It also has support for displaying Tasks (Astrid or GTasks).
Personally, this would be in my top 3 essentials apps.
I use Jorte, and it has both 4x1 and 1x4. The 4x1 is called 4x1 Horizontal.

Very nice recommendation, Smooth Calendar Widget totally suit my needs and it feels lightweight.
So is pure calander better then smooth calander? I need a widget that is bigger and shows more events

It's a real pitty that Jorte does not work with Exchange.
Does anyone know of anything similar for exchange? Ideally I am looking for two separate widgets, 1 for an agenda list and another for a month grid view that unlike the HTC Sense Widget actually shows you details of the appointments on the days (like Jorte).
Any suggestions.

So I'm still getting used to this phone but something I'm having a hard time figuring out is configuring notifications. So I'd anyone wants to give me some pointers I'd really appreciate it.
1.) How do I display notifications on my lock screen so I see that I have 3 messages from my wife, a message from my friend, and 2 Facebook notifications etc...?
2.) How do I get notification badges on the app icons so I can at least see I have 3 unread messages etc...?
What's the best way to get close to this? Any ideas?

For 1), do you mean you want the notifications readily available as soon as you get to the lock screen? If you don't mind doing a few actions, you could pull down the notification shade in your lock screen to show your notifications. Touching a notification and then pulling down again will give you more previews of the notification. You could also add some lock screen widgets for email and SMS so you can preview your messages from the lock screen.
If you want it instantly available, I'm not sure if there is any way to do it on the default lock screen. You might want to check out third party ones like Widget Locker.
For unread count badges on your icons, you could use Nova Launcher with the Tesla Unread plugin. If you don't want to install a different launcher I think there are some standalone widgets that can do it but I don't think they are as good as using Nova Launcher.

I have a weird problem which I am sure others are having also. I have a persistent weather notification in my pull down menu which is always there. The issue is, on the N4, when I receive a text notification it is above the weather notification that is essentially permanent. I would prefer this be below it. See attachment to view what I'm talking about.
So the question is, is there a workaround or fix for this? None of my previous phones had this problem. Thanks
I'm on 4.2.2 btw.

Mine doesn't do that but I use stock texting and use 1weather so maybe its something in Handcent, like a setting to always keep notifications on top or maybe my 1weather app is keep itself on top.
Yeah what's weird is I am using the same apps configured the exact same way as I did on my just replaced GS2. I can't find anything in handcent that changes the order of notification, nor can I in my weather app. I think what I will do is just send a support email to handcent and see what they think. Obviously something in the OS is different. Thanks

I've only had it 2 weeks and it's been like this since I set it up. I'd prefer to not wipe it as I don't think that will resolve it. I fired off an email to handcent, I'll update when I hear back.
What app is the notification from?
Notifications have some sort of priority thing, so Handcents is probably higher than that weather app.
Check both apps for this setting, or email the developer?

Yeah what's weird is I have used both of these apps for a long time on 2 different phones and have never had this issue. The weatherbug is a persistent/always there notification and should have priority to be at the top. There is nothing I can change in either app to change this. I have an email in to handcent to see if they know what the deal is. Never had this issue on my Nexus S or T989 GS2.
until now i had the Sensation XE.
and now in the One i am missing some basic things that were so great before !
1. weather widget. was so cool before.
2. calendar widget. used to be full screen, now 4X1 only
3. Mail - i have multiple accounts. each had different color.
its still the same in sense 5.0 but now they use the color to tell you if its an unread mail. after you read it - you lose the color.
now i have a list of emails and cannot know which email came from which account.
4. Mail - Delete email. used to navigate to the next one. now it just returns to the list of emails. very annoying.
5. clock widget - used to show my current location. now just says "Current Location"
i am sure i will find some more annoying stuff, and i dont like it one bit.

yea, they removed a lot of good features. You listed most, but they also left out the SMS widget.
They really just have no idea.....
my most important widget was the people widget, if that was gone, i have no reason to get sense, but yes i do miss the others like sms
Can somebody post the people & sms widget from sense 4.5? Sense 5 still has m10 libraries so we might be able to port it with minor tweaking.

He means the agenda calendar widget. There's no 4x4 widget any more.
Not sure where else to ask this, but something that is annoying me about the (otherwise excellent) Sense 5 stock mail app is that when you receive a notification about a new message arrival and you respond to the notification, it simultaneously switches focus to the mail app *and* opens and displays the first unread message.
I think I'd rather see the list of messages in my inbox and decide for myself if I want to open one or which one to open.
I'm pretty sure Sense 2.1 did not do this.
I have looked for a setting that controls this but could not find it.

Slightly OT, but was the Sense Mail app any good in last versions of Sense? I keep seeing people praising the Sense 5 version when I just find it really awful. It doesn't have pinch to zoom, the checkboxes in the list view have a smaller area to hit than the AOSP one, and every email I get I have to click download images--it doesn't give an option to always download images from this sender like the stock one does.
Only missing the sms widget :/

Sense apk's won't install. You'll just have to replace the apk in /system/app.
What about location/footprints app? I could understand it's not there (in Sense 5) any more!
From the first preview to 1.29 somewhere in between they removed the ability to EDIT effects individualy in the gallery app, removed the option to hold back button for menu, boomsound is somehow not as loud, but camera have better color management. Seriously what the F, HTC, they seems to take 1 step forward and then 2 step backward, this is like with the old One X when all beats profiles has been removed as the software gets updated
Wait 2 more weeks for Sense 5.1 with JB 4.2.2.
The way I see it, people were bugging HTC to de-bloat their Sense and they did just that.
And I can tell from history that they change Sense every time.
Adding and removing parts of it. Perfecting it.

Hi dude,
I disagre with points 2 & 5
2, you are able to add a calendar 2*3 and modify its size.
5, Which clock are you using? mine is : weather clock 4*2 and I get my location and not: current location.
But yeah I miss an other point!
Scrolling Wallpaper is missing a lot! and 4*5 grid for the homescreen too!
I just updated to Oreo and noticed that now when I dismiss a Notification the badge from that app goes away too...
In the previous version this didn't happen, anyone knows how to avoid the badge from the app disappearing?

I was also wondering if there is a workaround for this.
To be honest, this is the most stupid thing I've ever seen in a software update, now if you put the notifications to silent for - let's say- Facebook, you will never get the badges on on the app icon.
In Secure Folder, it is the same, which defeats the purpose of the secure folder (hiding notifications), so when I enter secure folder, now I have to check each app for conversations or messages or any other notifications they might have.
Samsung should provide the option to unlink "clearing notifications from the panel clears the badges", and also silencing and app notification doesn't prevent it from having badges.
Nova launcher, it works, but the tesla is inconsistent.

While this may be an "upgrade" to people with stock android, it's more of a downgrade to people who've already experienced the app badges before Oreo. The main reason I am/was a fan of app badges is so that my notifications can be turned off and I'll see I have notifications based on the app badge. I hope Samsung will at least add the possibility of choosing to show app badges for apps that are put to silent in a future update. Right now they just seem pretty pointless.

I totally agree with you, and t is the same reason why I am a fan of that.
Let's hope that Samsung can add an option to make it just like before.

I just think it's a backwards move and if they're so adamant of it at least give the option to allow unread badges even if notification is swiped away

I just updated to Oreo and noticed that now when I dismiss a Notification the badge from that app goes away too...
In the previous version this didn't happen, anyone knows how to avoid the badge from the app disappearing?
Thanks!

I really dislike this change and am considering returning my Galaxy S9 because of it. There's a thread over on the Samsung forum about this as well if you want to subscribe to that one to keep track of this issue.

I'm glad I found a forum on this issue...
This definitely seems like a step in the wrong direction. I liked that I would get new notifications in the top panel and if I swiped them away, the badge Icon would still show that I had an un-opened message. This was very useful because in situations where I was doing something and I couldn't check the new message right away, I would clear them because I still wanted to see if any other new notifications would come in after, the badge Icon would remind me to check later, if i forgot, when I had time to view or reply to that message.
This feature needs to be added back asap, it should be extremely simple for them to implement and it should be an option anyways for us to link or un-link the notification panel with the app badge icon.
Keep this forum going!
This is simply ridiculous! Gone from an almost perfect touchwiz to nova launcher ... i'm really upset.
For a lot of users Nova Launcher with Tesla Unread also has an issue with unread badges. Particularly with the Gmail app, but also with the native Samsung email app. See the recent reviews for the app on Google Play.
If you contact Tesla Coil (developers of Nova/TeslaUnread) they will send you an updated apk to side load. This didn't resolve the issue for me but YMMV.
But at least they are working on it. But i really liked the touchwiz look. Mainly the folders aspect not reproduced by nova.

While installing the updates they will show the small animation when you swipe the notifications the bagde will get clear.. before installing also in the changelog it is mentioned.
You should read the changelog first...
It is the way oreo notification's are implemented.. nothing samsung has done wrong here..

I had the same issue with not working numeric badges, but thanks to this thread I've found Tesla Unread has been updated yesterday in Google Play so installed and so far so good. Samsung Email and Hangouts badges are being shown properly.

Thanks Mike. TU Ver 5.1.0 still not working for me. Have cleared caches, uninstalled/reinstalled (twice), etc. etc. Still have persistent unread badge stuck on Gmail app, even though I have read/deleted emails.
Turning badges off/back on in TU does clear unread badges temporarily, but problem re-occurs when new emails arrive.

Not sure if it applies to your problem but all the permissions have been set properly?
TU - Settings/Apps/Special Access/Notification Access - Allow
Then confirm permissions within TU settings for selected applications.
