Unable to move to SD Card - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi there,
I recently inherited my mum's Galaxy S7 Edge, and I have an SD card filled with music and photos. For some reason, I'm not able to move files to my SD card. I can access files from SD card fine, like my music player picks it up, and the photos show up, but when I go into file manager to try and move music from the phone's internal storage to my SD card, it says that it's failed. I've tried copying instead of moving but the same thing happens.
Is this a feature of the S7 Edge that I just have to get used to? Or is something else wrong?
Thanks

Is the card write protected? There could be a switch there.

[Q] Storage card problem

Hi am hoping someone can help as this is driving me nuts!
I store all pics and music on storage card but today am getting messages to say phone memory is full. Using file explorer i can see under my Device that the storage card is now appearing there as well as separately as a storage card....have connected phone to laptop though and cant see it listed if i explore the files that way.
transferred all pics from card to laptop, and reformatted card via phone and it disappears from 'my device' but then as soon as i access it it reappears. Obviously this is what is filling the phone memory....how do i get rid of it ?
any help would be greatly appreciated
What OS?
What ROM?
Are you installing apps to internal or external?
Have you installed something that can check teh sizes of your folders etc?
os 5.2.21864
ROM 1.43.206
havent installed any apps recently. only thing done recently was active sync because i had taken some new pics which are stored on storage card.
i just cant work out why the storage card has transferred itself into the phone memory.
the storage card appears in file explorer under storage card but is also appearing under the my device tab. it just seems to be copying itself across for some reason

Using SD card from Rezound in the S5

Sorry guys, I am traveling right now and my wife needs a bit of help.
She took her SD card out of her Rezound and put it in the S5. She is trying to figure out where everything is stored as when you look at the SD card (when its plugged into the PC) its not showing all of her files?
Basically she needs to move music over and when the SD card is in she cant find anything on the phone. Is there a new format that needs to be used or does anyone know why she wouldnt be able to view the entire contents of her SD card while the S5 is plugged into the PC?
bump... I am having this exact same issue.

KitKat changed how apps can access the external SD card so if you just swap a card into a KK device you will probably not be able to access all existing app files with same apps you had on the old device. When you plug it in to the PC however I'd expect that you can see everything (unless some files are hidden for some reason). So maybe her music was on the 16GB internal storage of the Rezound?
File transfer is fast on USB 3.0 so just format the card through the new phone (Settings> Storage> Format SD card) and transfer it back over. I usually create a "Music" folder in the root of the SD card and dump whatever right in when it connected to PC... I just did this on my S5 a few minutes ago and the phone saw the music when I started the Music app.
I'd consider it good practice to format the card when changing phones anyway.

[Q] SD card not scanning

Hey all, I just picked up a new S5 a few hours ago actually. Got everything all set up and migrated over to the new phone. Phone is bone stock. Anyways, I put in the sd card from my old phone, but the S5 won't scan it. None of my pictures from the card show up in "Gallery", none of my ringtones show up in Sound settings, none of my music shows up in the music player. I've tried an SD rescanning app from the play store but it didn't work. I can view the contents of the card just fine when using a file browser, but android does not appear to be scanning any of the files of it. Any ideas on what could be wrong? I've read that the sd card permissions were changed with kitkat, but would that remove media scanning from the SD card?

I'd recommend you to do the following steps:
1. back up your sd card to your pc, laptop or whatever
2. then go to "storage setting", format that sd card
3. then copy your data back to sd card
4. restart your phone
it should work fine!
Wow, that worked great. Thanks!

Moving apps to the SD card corrupts them

I have a S5 G900F, stock ROM G900FXXU1BOE5 not rooted. I have a ton of apps and I have a Sandisk Extreme 3 with 32gb. I never had issues with the phone nor sd card. I save documents, pictures and videos in the SD card.
However I reached the point when I really need to move some Apps to the SD card. The problem is that when I move them, it says application moved and then it says that the memory card can be safely removed. I need to go to settings-> storage and mount again the sd card. Once I do it the moved application appears with an android icon, it says the name like com.whateverapp.xxx and when you open it, it says the application stopped working.
The application cannot be moved back to the internal storage. Does somebody know how to fix this issue?
Uh... I never had "memory card can be safely removed" message after moving app to SD card.
And as you can see, I have some of them there... None of them stopped working.
SD card is Kingston class 10 64GB card

Changing SD Card

Within the last week I moved to my 7 Edge from my Note7. I have all of my apps installed and I did not move any to the SD card when I installed them. As I set my phone up, Android created 3 folders on my SD card: they are "Android" "Knox" and "Lost". The Android folder has a lot of stuff under a sub folder named "Data." I just received my new 256GB data card in the mail and I might change over to it. Will this create issues with my apps since they created all of this data on my SD card? "Lost" and "Knox" appear empty so that doesn't seem to pose a problem. Just worried about that "Android" folder.
Hi,
Most apps doesn't create data on sdcard unless you tell them to do it, for example Spotify music is usually stored on internal storage, but you can change the storage location to the sdcard. So, if you didn't tell any app to create its data on sdcard you won't have any problem.
You can use an app like FX File Explorer to check how much space that folder is using, not only that, but if you really are worried about some app breaking because of the data in sdcard, just copy the current sdcard content to the new one, shouldn't take much from your 256GB card
All the best,
~Lord

I've swapped SD cards multiple times just by copying everything from the old on onto the new one, using a PC. Never had any problems at all.
