Hey they,
today my mum came to me and said that her phone is broken so I gave it a look.
After some minutes I saw that the backlight might be broken.
Here is a link where I show the problem (I switched the brightness from 0 to 100% but it doesnt seem to change anything)
*I cannot post the video because of forum limitation...*
I just wanted to know what my options are. Maybe replace the backlight myself?

OK I have had my T-mobile Wing aka HTC Herald since last April.
Just a few days ago I encountered a problem with my lcd. And I would like your guys feedback if possible before I purchase an lcd replacement.
My problem is when I slide open the wing my screen starts to fade, (almost making it look like a negative from a picture) after that it starts to fade to different colors.
Now the problem persists when the phone is closed, however if I tap the top of my wing and hold it the screen becomes normal, but once I let go it starts to fade again.
I would like to know if any of you experienced this with ur phone and if a replacement lcd screen will fix the problem or am I sol?
If it helps im running my wing on Open Touch v6.0 WM 6.1 Build 20273.1.3.3
Thanks in advance.
LCD problems
Hello,
I too have some weird LCD problems and instead of creating a new thread I thought of posting in this one.
For the past few months, whenever I get a call or resume my phone from standby mode using the power button the entire screen goes white or sometimes it has green or blue colored lines all over them. I have to keep on pressing the power button few times to get proper display. Also whenever I open the qwerty keyboard the display goes blank. Since I am out of warranty Tmobile is not ready to replace the phone and I contacted the HTC customer service and they told that the display unit and some hardware stuff is gone and it needs to be replaced and will cost a minimum of 170$ and will increase if they had to replace some other hardware.
Please note that, my screen is NOT broken and the touch screen too works fine. Recently the display has gone completely blank or too faded even to see whats there in the screen I could barely see the today screen.
I searched and I did not find any similar issues that other folks have faced. Since the LCD and the touch screen is not broken replacing them is not going to fix the issue, correct? I was using open touch and recently I updated the latest official Tmobile release of ROM 6.26.xxx. I also tried the hard resets too.
Any other ideas/suggestions will be of great help for me. Thanks in advance.
I am having some similar problems as well, but my problem is much more severe. My screen is completely black and it just happened this past weekend. When i slide the phone the screen used to flicker but now it black as well. Phone works fine but is useless due to the fact the the screen is out. I remember seeing a program where you can interact with your phone via your pc when something was wrong w/ your screen (cracked, broken, etc.) I have searched the forum but to no avail. The program was very simple and effective. I plan on replacing my phone but would like to retrieve some info off the one I have. I just need that program! Anyone please HELP US!

I have a tmobile g1, no warranty, because i bought it from a friend...anyway...the problem is, when i close my screen the backlight goes out. like i can still see the screen, just REALLY dim and no light.
I read somewhere its the flex ribbon or something.
How would i go about fixing this at home, or is this have to be fixed by a proffesional.
I cant send it to tmobile or anything, because i didnt buy it from them.
Thanks

You could probably send your phone to HTC to have them repair it, if you're looking for a professional repair
If, as you say, it's the flex cable, then it should be pretty easy to fix at home if you get the right part.
Everyone makes a mistake and I did one that wasnt too good. I had pressure on my HTC Desire Z. I was at a lan and I slept with it in my pocket. Next morning the alarm went and I want to shut the alarm off but the screen didnt wake up!
Rebooted the phone and still dont see anything but when I turned the LCD on, I could see a few lines and the LCD was lit up but nothing showing. The dignitizer still works due to it reacts when I unlock it.
Anyone have any idea to fix this? Is it really only replace the LCD or there is no small fix?
hit up ebay and look for a lcd + digitizer.. it's the simplest way of fixing your problem.
I think you need to buy a new one, don't sure but if this keep long may harm your device
I have a odd backlight issue going on with my G1 i took some pic and now the backlight won't come on no matter what setting I choose, if i slide open the screen and tap the backlight setting it comes on but it won't with the screen closed any thoughts? oh and when i open the screen I have to change the backlight setting in order for it come on
Question and hopefully someone has an idea could this be hardware and here is why I ask if I turn off the phone the backlight doesn't comeon at boot if i open the screen and boot the phone it does.
I am stuck and hate to set and dismantle the phone for no reason
did you drop it? a lot? lol not sure why that would happen unless the rom has a bug in it... what rom are you flashing? or is it stock tmobile firmware?
to be honest I don't remeber which rom I flashed it about a yr ago it has been working fine since I decided to dismantle the phone to check the ribbon cables as I noticed if i open the screen just a bit the screen works. however they were fine does anyone know how the screen switch on the G1 works i was thinking maybe it may be the problem as while i had it open I put power to it and played with the ribbon cable and it had no effect but moving the screen did.
Thanks,
yonu
P.S. sorry for long post
hmm. maybe a wire or sensor got unplugged or moved when you dismantled it... with out seeing it i cant really think of what could be the issue... i kno you tube has 100's of videos on taking apart the g1 lol maybe see if you skipped a step...?
Nope didn't skip a step I simply was hoping tat someone knew how the screen switch worked so I could try bypassing it as I think it is my problem
I recently replaced the screen on my K20 Pro and I noticed that there are a few malfunctions. Screen brightness suddenly goes max for a few seconds when using opening the phone from lock screen and usually when using fingerprint to unlock (I have my Auto-Brightness set to off). Ghost touches when tapping but none when swiping. I was wondering if this is a common malfunction after replacing the screen (calibration or something) or did the installation of the screen went wrong or is it because the LCD used to replace the original one was defective. Thanks for the insights.
i just replaced my screen four days ago and so far i got no problems of some sort..
so, i think it's probably the installation or the unit's fault. idk tho
I'm just annoyed by the sudden screen brightness max. To be honest I think the ghost touch thing is because of a defect LCD, but I think the brightness problem is from the system. It's like the phone does not recognize or remember the previously set brightness. I hope there's a solution for this. Do factory resetting the phone solve any brightness problems?
hello! did you managed to solve this problem? I have the same problem
if you removed foil and it still touch in random parts of screen,. then send it back. i had the same symptoms with a few screens that I repaired. just Chinese quality

i did the replacement with not 100% compatible display...because it was way cheaper than the display I needed...(from an oppo phone) i know it sounds weird but the display was 200 dollars( the 100% compatible from oppo) and i payed like 70 for this display that flickers the bringtness..but they told me a factory reset can solve it?
what do you think?
try, but I doubt it. looks like fauly/not compatible to me.
try flashing latest miui to make sure you did everything to get it to work, if that doesn't make it better just don't waste your time. if you have more technical data on both anoled and lcd with connections described (every pin) then you could make research a d bypass if needed. otherwise send it back

managed to solve? I have the same problem, besides sometimes the screen seems to lose sensitivity, I saw in some groups people recommend buying parts from the dragon-tt store....I'm thinking of taking a chance....
