What's everyone's preference? I like the themes due to icons and accent colors, etc, but I don't like how I can't activate night mode on Samsung browser when running a theme. Any other pros or cons that others have found?
I like keeping everything dark in general, better battery life for AMOLED screens and better performance. (Less to render, like that's an issue on the note 9???) I always keep my device in night mode but I also have a black ui theme installed.
Before I got the Note 9 I was using the first gen pixel with android 9 and I can confirm it is so much better on the switching from say to night mode. The note has a bit of issues on that bet like I said I prefer night mode
Also prefer pie Night Mode on my Sammy....
I was always using dark themes but now night mode all day long. It feels like the most complete experience for me. And I don't really need fancy icons.
I was just in the habit of using themes since my S8+. Rocking the night mode now along with the STEALTH icon pack.

Hi all,
I know that the S5 was underwhelming for some and a good upgrade for others, but im not here to talk about that.
I noticed a lot of interesting and innovative features on the S5 namely the Ultra Power Saver Mode which has some pretty bad-ass tricks up its sleeve. Granted that the overall battery savings in done by proprietary tech from LUCID TECHNOLOGIES, the 10% = 24 hrs claim really caught my eye.
This is done by turning the display into black and white screen or greyscale mode. The most notable use for this being
1) Battery savings on AMOLED displays
2) Reading webpages easier for the eye
3) Night usability improves greatly.
I wanted to know if there is any way / app , that can replicate this. I did try to find out on play store and google but all i could manage to find were screen filters and screen dimmers. Non rooted method would be nice
PS: Android offers inverted mode in accessibility menu, where the colors are inverted but its not the same as what S5 offers.
?
Anybody have any idea ?

Is it possible? I do not know if the S5 features for non-root
There are several existing settings such as interface
Try looking at the Galaxy S4 Games and app in this forum
But it needs root

It's been 2 years since the filter loving, social network, instagram appeared in the hands of Android users. And just now, has it finally gotten the overhaul it needed to compare to its classic ios counterpart.
The new app design brings a flat look to an even smoother user experience. Adding new animations and transitions is something the we're not shy of as well. Another nifty update is their performance boost for devices who run older versions of Android such as a galaxy nexus or Samsung galaxy s2.
Overall this ui is something to adore but is still something that lacks a high resolution uploading ability that ios has to offer. Either way, instagram for Android is fresh and once again, enjoyable.
Here is a video u made going over the big features.

I'm glad the blue color around the camera icon is actually the same color as the action bar now. Before it was like 3 shades off. So if you tried to use Tinted Status Bar, it looked so stupid and mismatched.
I'm so glad they finally did an update it. Now to wait for Facebook to do the same and make their app look nice like the IG one.
I've been enjoying my Shield since I got it 2 months ago, and like the original Kitkat look to it, the background and the colors. Well after upgrading to Lollipop I was horrified to see that the color theme is completely opposite. The app drawer is white!!!! How awful is that? Anyway, I've never needed to get a launcher in the past on my phones because the roms I used were customizable enough to get a theme or color set I liked. But with the Shield Tablet... I'm just not fond of the roms available.
So whats the popular launchers and are there any cool themes? I'm looking for something to make my Shield Tablet look like a "Shield Tablet" again and not some bright white lollipop stick in the mud...
You can always just flash back to KitKat.
You can always use Nova Launcher (my choice)
A lot of people swear by Nova.
I still like ADW Launcher Ex (runs fine on my Shield with Lollipop) - just hope to see an update since it's been hinted...

Thanks for the responses, I'll give those two a look. I know I could go back to kitkat, but for how long will I be sticking to Kitkat while the OS is updated throughout the years... Eventually I'd have to move on, so trying to now. Oh, and why the hell is there no auto brightness like kitkat had? I have t manually set the brightness now...
There is still auto-brightness in Lollipop, it's just implemented a bit differently. It's the "Adaptive Brightness" option that's found in your display settings. Juts like normal auto-brightness, it adjusts your screen brightness automatically based on your surrounding. Adjusting the brightness slider with adaptive brightness on changes how aggressively the screen up-clocks its brightness. So if you have adaptive brightness on and you pull the slider to the max value, the display will work like normal auto-brightness but will tend to favor higher brightness more of the time. (and vice versa). It's like normal auto-brightness but with the ability to customize how aggressive the setting is.
And as for a launcher, I've been very happy with Nova for years.
I've been trying Nova and Go launcher. I like how simple Nova is, but I like how many themes and styles Go has. It doesn't look like Nova has themes, other than icons...
No, Nova doesn't have an integrated theme engine like Go does. I just like Nova's little tweaks and adjustments.
Hope you can find one you like. One of the first things I do when I get a new device is add a custom launcher.
Buzz launcher.. Awesome themes.. And you can basically setup custom themes yourself if you know what to do. I've gone buzz and never looked back.

Nova definitely.. plenty of icon sets etc for it although there's no overall theme engine, lots of adjustment though.

I've been using Action Launcher since the shield came out, and I like it alot. Version 3 hasn't been out all that long, but its got a nice material theme to match the rest of the OS, but you can theme it to a fixed color (Material Dark is what I do), or let it adapt to to colors of your wallpaper. Give it a shot?

No matter what theme I'm on, I always have white notifications. I just like darker themes and have always used them back in my AOSP days because they just look better and less iPhone-y when I use my phone. In some cases saves more battery life on amoled screens.
Anyone know how to can find my needs wants? lol.
Nougat 7.0 S7E
I have a few black themes was really hoping the Nougat update was going to extend more of that area into the theme setup, but it hasn't.
Right now there is no way to make notifications black.
BTW wear is your favorite black theme?
Good Lock app by Samsung allowed for the notification cards to have dark backgrounds. There is no Nougat-compatible version thus far. Samsung said they would have a new version for the 7.0 software, but I'm not very confident that will actually happen.
I have a hacker theme and tjay dkes the job for me. Almost nothing white except the msg app

On MM I liked one called something like Touchwiz Dark, it was basically the way some Samsung models used to have dark menus and dark dialer/messaging instead of light. Doesn't seem to be there on Nougat tho, at least I can't find it. There are some other decent ones on Nougat but there is always at least 1 thing I don't like in each one lol. How bout you?
I use Material Black on both MM and Nougat. Definitely would like to darken the notifications.
Beside Messages and Contacts Google now pushed first public beta of Phone app which has dark theme enabled.
My Taimen's Phone app was just updated to version 26.0.221539659 publicbeta.
Opening animation is still white and there is a little lag when pressing Recent tab, but it is a good start.
It looks that Google is really trying to implement dark themes to applications, which are mostyl used, after they shoot themselves into their knee by admitting / stated that dark themes are saving battery...

I just read the call screen feature is about to get switched on server-side for P2 & P2L in this build, too (Droid Life). Woot!:highfive:
I don't like very dark theme. Why should be everything dark. Ok saving battery but with dark looks terrible. Maybe who love dark just take any Android device till KitKat?

Dark theme is an option for people who don't like shining white on their eyes and not just to save battery. Remember its an "option". Nobody forced you to use it. No one will buy and use a outdated device and OS just for dark theme.

Right and it's not even set to dark by default.
