Bought this brand new sealed and opened it up and updated to current.
Problem,
Microphone works great on the phone but won’t work anywhere else.
Ok google won’t voice match to open, voice memos, gboard, video call apps, etc.
Anyone else had this issue and fixed it?
First thing I'd do is check the app's permissions that they are allowed to use the mic
I did that

did it work before you updated it?
Does it work with headset etc?
I'd try going to reset all apps, as a first try.
Last resort, reflash.

When you plug in a headset with a mic it works fine.
Don’t know about working first because updates were right away as I knew the phone at start was not a good experience until all the updates made it great.

I think you/we are suffering from an software issue. The PH-1 and other devices like the OP6 have the problem that thirdparty apps are using the wrong microphone, even the camera app. For me this is causing very low volume in recorded videos and anreliable "OK google" trickering the assistant. I don't use whatsapp or snapchat, so can't say anything about it.
https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/...-mic-in-some-apps-like-snapchat-and-whatsapp/
Hopefully it will be fixed later once. Fingers crossed :silly:

LOL, yes suppose most of us would immediately update phone is s oon as we got it also
yes, I'd think it's software issue, I've also heard of similar problems on other phones & oK goggle also causing mic issue, that's very I suggested using the reset all app option. Maybe also try boot into safe mode to see if it's a 3rd party app causing this.

There is more to this than I can fit in the subject line.
My wife dropped her S4 into a pail of milk (she works in a cafe), We were not able to clean it until the next day and we also stuck it in a bag of rice.
I took it it into a local repair place who removed the board, soaked it in cleaning fluid and the phone restarted okay. But apparently the milk had damaged the digitiser so that no touch was recognised on the lower part of the screen despite their cleaning the contacts etc. So bit the bullet and had a new screen/digitiser installed.
Now my wife tells me and I can confirm this, that when using two of her favourite apps for communication(Wechat and Viber) when she tries to record a voice message the mic stops working. In Wechat the level control doesn't show any bars. Or it will work briefly and then stop. But regular cellphone calls are fine and the called party can hear her. Out of interest I installed a recorder app and that works fine also. I can use the recorder app and then try to use Wechat and the recorder will work, Wechat (or Viber) won't.
It seems like this should be a software issue but everything was working before the milk incident and no software was updated when the digitiser was installed.
I guess we could remove both apps and reinstall them but my wife has long chat conversation threads on both apps which get lost if you re-install and she wants to keep them.
I plan to go back to the repair place to ask if they can see if there are any issues but this doesn't really make much sense.
Thanks
Get the mic module replaced.
@AntaresOne can you throw some light here
"If someone helps, never forget to hit thanks ?"
I will ask that but it's strange that regular calls are okay (must use the mic) and a digital recorder also works fine.

Erm..if you want to backup all the messages and stuff, try backing up.with helium/titanuim backup.
And reinstall the apps.

Well I backed up her messages (Wechat has a capability to do that), deleted the app, re-installed it and restored her messages. After being able to send about 4 or 5 messages with audio, the audio stopped working again.
It's hard to believe it's a hardware issue when the same mic works with regular calls and a digital recorder but next step is to factory reset the phone and see if the app behaves itself then.
Anyone else getting their audio cut out? Before the latest update my phone was pretty flawless. Now certain apps the audio cuts out. Then cuts back in and sound likes it struggles to stay on then cuts back out. Now this just happened to a Facebook video I was watching. This never happened before. I'm not using head phones and I haven't tried using them this is happening to the phones speaker.
Is Sammy aware of this issue?

Factory reset, I had camera problems after the lastest update. It would FC on pro mode and had to be rebooted for the camera to work again. It's a pain, but it works.

No problem
i've had this problem. I reset and it went away then came back after a software update. I would love to know what that update did and how to roll back
Well I'm back, and I got some bad news.
I did an hard reset, (went into recovery and deleted cache as well etc)
The 1st day it was fine. And now just a few hours ago, it started again. It's really bugging the he'll out of me.
This has to be software related. My phone was flawless before this last update.
As I type this my keyboard stopped making sounds.
Contacted samsung about the issue.
Did it happen with headphones or the speaker or both?

It's been happening with the phones speaker. Haven't replicated the issue with headphones, then again I rarely use them on the phone.
Right now I have full sound, but eventually it will cut out, come back cut out rinse and repeat.
No issues before the latest update.
no problems here

Having the same issue on my AT&T Galaxy S7. It doesn't happen on Bluetooth, and I haven't noticed with headphones, but it cuts out all the time through the speakers. It'd be nice to find a solution to this issue for it is causing several issues such as the sound cutting out during my alarm going off for work. Ended up an hour late due to the issue. ?
Anyone find a true resolution. I've read many articles and still no luck. Factory wipe, partition wipe, safe mode, developer mode.. I've tried it all
I share your pain. I have the same problems too.
When I try to use the phone for a conference call, the volume drops but they can hear me. When I am listening to YouTube, the volume drops. When I try to use the phone in Speaker mode, the volume drops too. No Fix and very discouraged.

Where is the settings in german ? I am fuuuuucked up because this annoying bug appeared .
Useless programmers
If it's not broke, update it until it is.
LG V20 - No "Easy Mute" feature found. Nothing found. I am a music developer and accurate and WORKING audio is my livelihood. Very fu&&ckin IRATE. Stupid software developers need to go back to hacker school and save real programming for professionals. Now we have to go back to a effing Ipod? CDs? Vinyl?
even though no one seems to suffer from that problem, i must ask again-
the problem is a low volume while talking on the phone using the speaker. THEN AND ONLY THEN.
it's working perfect while playing videos, games or music. there are no complaints from the other side of the conversation. no problem while talking with headphones or w/o other devices. nothing. only on my end.
it's probably not a matter of hardware because a lab switched my speaker with another one's and mine worked perfectly on his and his didn't on mine. (same problem that is)
ALSO, i've already updated twice 7.0.1-->7.1.0-->7.1.1 and no changes.
I've already factory reseted, wiped all, cleared cache and data, and did everything i could think of, but burning the damn thing.
the ONLY conclusion i got to (me and the lab) is that there's a code or other software glitch that limits the volume.
PLEASE THINK OR TRY TO FIGURE THIS PROBLEM OUT
I got a similar problem like you.
The RECEVIER doesn't work while talking on the phone.
But the speaker works perfect.
Weirdly the RECEIVER works perfect when I use the other APPs like Wechat to listen some voice messages.
PLEASE THINK OR TRY TO FIGURE THIS PROBLEM OUT

Did you try and run the phone in safe mode to rule out a third party app causing the problem? If that makes no difference you could either do a clean install of the latest Android image or if the phone is under warranty try and contact Google or Huawei for support.
didn't try safe mode. will try now. already contacted huawei, no response yet

unfortunately, safe mode didn't help, so it's probably not an app that blocks it.
is there a good confirmed link to a guide of a clean install?

Hey, guys,
So I've got this weird issue with rooted SM-N910F. Fairly often, while talking via bluetooth headset, the bluetooth would suddenly turn off and then back on right away. I can't seem to figure what causes it. The only thing I have noted is that occasionally it would happen when there's a notification sound during a call or media playback - but then it also happens when there are no notifications.
I've used CatLog to record some logs, the crash is right near the end, probably in the last 2,000 lines. Any chance anyone could give me a direction here?
Thanks in advance!

So I unfroze anything Samsung-related (still froze things like Facebook or Flipboard), no joy, though
At this point, I'm feeling a lot of love and hate for my PH-1, but I'm locked in. I'm on the Sprint lease plan and I'm passed the point of returning the thing. So here's the latest issues:
Voice-to-Text: Whether it's in Chrome, Brave, Messenger, Google Assistant or Keep, voice-to-text has the same problem. First of all, when the phone says it's listening, I have to wait a few seconds before saying anything. Otherwise, it'll miss the first few words of whatever I'm about to say. The other problem: If I'm trying to do voice-to-text, it'll take about 5 words and stop taking anymore even though the phone appears to still be actively listening. At that point, I can cancel and then tap the microphone button again. This will allow me to voice-to-text 5 more words. So voice to text is barely usable at this point.
I installed Google Voice, but it won't take over as the default voicemail app. I've dug around in Settings and such, but I can't seem to find where I can change this. Presumably, the install of Google Voice should have taken care of it, but that doesn't appear to have happened. It has all my old voicemail from my prior phone, but nothing since getting the PH-1.
Stays connected to my car and my LG headphones no problem, but has issues losing connection anytime my ASUS Zenwatch 2 runs out of battery. Three times so far, I've had to wipe the watch and reconnect to get the two devices talking to each other again.
Google Keyboard is interesting and all, but it seems to do a great job of registering the wrong keystrokes. Honestly, I'd gotten used to my Samsung keyboard anyways, so if there's an option to map the same second character layout, that'd be ideal. But I definitely need SOME keyboard app that presents large enough keys that my huge hands won't confuse the phone. G Board is as big as I can make it and it's just not enough.

I have ZERO of these issues...
And Google voice hasn't put itself in the Google dialer since it was updated to material design like over a year ago...

I'm so happy for you! You have no problems in your life and nothing bad ever happens to you! Meanwhile, I see post after post after post on this forum where people are on their second or third PH-1 .... because their PH-1 had issues. Sprint's support for the Essential Phone is worse than nonexistent. Essential Phone's own support kinda sucks too. Honestly, this forum is the only resource for useful help I've been able to find period. Apparently, people posting who are frustrated with their new phone offends you. Meanwhile, I will continue to try to make my purchase of a PH-1 as livable as possible.

Google broke the integration more than a year ago.
You will need to install an old version of the app manually.
The version you want is "com.google.android.apps.googlevoice_0.4.7.10.apk".
This is the last version that integrates with any dialer.
make sure you setup not to auto-update or the update will kill the integration.

Thanks, that explains a lot. Weird that they broke the integration. Can't think of a good reason for them to want to do that. Alternately, is there a different voicemail app that would work? Google Voice has it's good points, but if letting an update sneak through breaks it, I don't see the point in using Google Voice. Sometimes updates patch vulnerabilities after all.
Did Google replace Google Voice with something else perhaps?

Just an FYI, I have no issues with latest google voice, integrated with hangouts and used for my voicemail with Verizon after doing the standard *71(googlevoice#) *90(googlevoice#) an *92(googlevoice#). Maybe Sprint has a similar method of call forwarding you can use?
Also, maybe your phone has a hardware issue with a microphone. It wouldn't be the first case. Many of us really don't have an issue with voice to text, so that might be something to RMA about if you can test further.

The issue is not about being able to use it, dialer integration is broken.
Without integration you can't go to the dialer and listen to your VM.
