Hi all!
After a complete restore trough the factory image flash, I can't access in the fastboot mode through the vol+ and power key combination.
In any case, I can access in the fastboot mode through the advanced reboot menu in the developer option.
Really strange!
So, if I will incur in a system bootloop or something, I'm a bit f**ked.
Any ideas?
I've seen many people having this issue generally they just haven't been holding the keys long enough. It appears sometimes it takes an extremely long time to boot with the keys.

Hi man, thanks for your reply!
I hold the buttons very well, simply my phone "skips" the fastboot and goes straight to normal system boot.
In order I do the following steps:
- shut down the phone
- press vol+ and power on keys
- "your bootloader is unlocked bla bla" message appears
- system boot
WHAT THE HECK?
Hi !
I've got exactly the same prob... Must be using the advanced reboot menu to access fastboot ...

Try holding volume button then power, release power when phone starts to boot but continue holding volume. I have had phones in the past that we're just picky to get into recovery or fastboot. Might just take a little experimenting with when to release the buttons. All I can think of but I know I have had difficulty on other devices.

Glad I'm not alone in this problem!
Did you perform some operation like hard reset, reflash? Can you define when the problem appeared?
I was on Beta3, and I wanted to unlock my bootloader ... I couldn't do it with the hardkeys ... It was 2 days ago... Now, I'm in 9.0.11 and still the same prob ...
Uh, very strange.
Any ideas on how to resolve this issue? Because if something goes wrong like system boot failure or recovery partition corruption we are in a big trouble, since the only method to get fastboot mode is through the system...
Try holding volume up, volume down and power at the same time. I think that was it.
@trinidude4 : Thank you so much, It was that !!

Are you able to access recovery at all? If your able to access recovery try preforming a factory reset to see if you can get past the boot animation. Also check out this information that may be helpful.

Always glad to hear that I was able to help someone out, but I'm always especially happy when I can help someone un-brick there device.
so the deal here is...
so once your in bootloader, hit recovery, then you will see the little dead droid with the triangle... this is where it gets tricky...
keep tapping ( DONT HOLD) the power and volume left ( dunjno which is up or down, so i say left, the one close to the power key)., or in somke cases just mash all the buttons till the menu pops up! then click wipe data then wipe cache and the device reboots itself... give it a try!
i dont knwo why the recovery menu doesnt pop up unjtil u keep pressing volume up/down and power buttons, just keep tapping them in the recovery menu weith the android triangle and u should see the menu pop up

Very interesting to know, maybe you should make a thread in the general section with your findings so other people can easily find this useful information as this seems to be a common problem people run into.

Works perfect. Thanks so much...
I've actually heard that it's a fastboot problem (with the tool, not the firmware on your device). Downloading the latest version of platform-tools solved this particular problem in a hurry for me, and it's probably best practice in the long run.
Is there something I can do in this situation except i don't have stock recovery installed?
Nevermind had a moment
Hi
I rooted my nexus 10 some months ago. All worked fine until yesterday. I wanted to go back to original firmware and used the WUGs nexus root toolkit to download 4.4.3 version and flash it. But afterwards the tablet doesnt boot anymore. Google logo appears and then the circle thing never goes away. I searched many threads, and all base on going into fastboot and flash again, but thats the problem. I cant get into fastboot. The usual combination (Power and vol+ and vol-) doesnt work! I tried many other combinations with different timings, longer press only vol+ and power ...., I always get to google logo after it vibrates.
Is there any other way to get into the fastboot mode ?
Can I connect it to the computer and interrupt the boot process when I switch it on via the PC?
thanks in advance
regards
Erich
Try to connect it to PC with original usb cable and run "adb devices".
If you see Nexus device, you can try "adb reboot recovery" and upload a ROM to /sdcard with "adb push" for flash it.
Hi
Thanks for your relpy.
But thats the problem, even if I could upload a file with adb, which is not working, how would I flash it if I cant get into fastboot or recovery mode ???
thanks anyway
regards
Erich
I think what patzzz is saying is that it depends on your bootloop, often is the case that when someone is in a bootloop the kernel does initiate and adb is functional. Not always but at times for sure.
So if so you can attempt
adb reboot recovery
Or
adb reboot bootloader
If the above doesn't work than you will have to continue trying to boot to bootloader manually with key presses (which I believe is power on while holding volume down)
Best of luck!
Hi
Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it doesnt work. It made a batch file which calls adb devices and adb reboot bootloader in a loop, so it can send it to the device if it is found, but the tablet isnt regonized, tried some reboots and no luck, adb cant find it )))-:

Erich
It seems a brick, but you can try using fastboot command instead of adb:
Code:
fastboot devices
fastboot reboot-bootloader

I suggest you do a factory reset from the stock. You have gone back to stock firmware so you should have stock recovery. I had this happen once and this work for me.
Hi
I will try it with fastboot too, maybe it works....
How can I do a factory reset without recovery mode ?
thanks

1.If your tablet is on, turn it off.
2.Press & hold the Power, Volume Up, and Volume Down buttons at the same time for several seconds. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow drawn around it.
3.Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight Recovery mode.
4.Press the Power button to start Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation point and the words "No command."
5.While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up button.
6.Use the volume buttons to scroll to "Wipe data/factory reset," then press the Power button to select it.
7.Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data," then press the Power button to select it.
>>2.Press & hold the Power, Volume Up, and Volume Down buttons at the same time for several seconds. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow drawn around it.
Thats the problem, it doesnt work! Tried it a dozent times, only Google logo appears.....

Are your volume keys even working?

Hi
The Volume Down button is jammed (the phone fell and landed on its edge slightly crushing the frame where the volume down is). Curiously the Volume Up button still increased the volume.
After turning the phone off the problem came when turning on the phone as it now only boots into the bootloader as a result of the jammed Volume Down button.
Once in bootloader mode, the volume up/down buttons do not change the reboot options - it appears the stuck Volume Down button is causing this.
The way to fix this is to take the phone apart (as per the Youtube clips) and physically straighten the frame.
This is no easy task, so the question: is there a way around this so that the phone can boot?
It's rooted and fastboot commands work. (I installed TWRP but can only boot to recovery with adb).
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

No, the device is reading the hardware correctly and booting to bootloader. The only way to fix this is to fix your device.

He said he could still issue fastboot commands. If the device is OFF and he has to press the POWER button to turn it on, it is reading the VOL DOWN as being pressed as well. If he issues the reboot command in Fastboot, it should boot into system because he won't need to press the POWER button and VOL DOWN (being pressed by the bent frame) at the same time, right?
OP also said he could get to recovery from ADB, but I think he meant Fastboot because ADB is only available when you are booted to Android.
Clarification
"I installed TWRP but can only boot to recovery with adb" is unclear.
I was meaning that one can only boot directly to recovery using adb. In fastboot, one can't get to recovery.
At the moment adb can't be used - only fastboot.
When I issue the fastboot reboot command, it just returns to the bootloader. I was hoping it would bypass the Volume Down state, but sadly no.
Thanks for your input though - I knew it was a longshot.
By the way, the phone wasn't dropped, but came out of my pocket going up some stairs - the bigger size makes it not as stable!
A bit late to reply, but for the sake of the next guy that comes looking, the command you were looking for is:
Code:
fastboot continue
This should tell the bootloader to boot into system.
You are still right about not being able to boot into recovery from bootloader (that's the headache I am currently having)
Any way of disabling the volume key altogether without doing anything physical to the phone?
I tried editing Generic.kl from /system/usr/keylayout/, but that only makes a difference when the phone is booted, not before that. Any way to disable the key before the phone has booted?
Cuz this is my mum's phone and she will have no idea what "fastboot" is
Hi all,
Got this phone last week. It's been really laggy and basically unusable, it even lags when receiving calls and I miss half of them from being unable to answer. I was advised to wipe the cache partition, but the recovery menu is in Chinese. I got in touch with Motorola support who first tried to get me to delete all my data in the Chinese recovery menu, then gave me instructions to wipe the partition in English which I can't follow because the menu is in Chinese, and then said they couldn't help further. I can't find any other examples of Motorola phones with a Chinese recovery menu online.
Really not sure what to do!
Thanks for reading.
When I pressed power+volume down, phone booted into some Chinese screen, but it was not recovery, it was I think a testing menu. You might have pressed the same buttons. To boot to recovery, press power+volume up, this will launch a menu, keep pressing volume up to select recovery, then press volume down to launch recovery, after launching recovery you'll see no command screen, there you should hold power button and press volume up, this will launch recovery. Hope it helps.
That worked, thank you! Motorola were less than useless. Much appreciated.
In case it helps anyone, I fixed the lagging today by installing a new version of google play services, which I found by googling. Made everything better.
Please confirm which version of Google Play services you installed as I have the same problem.

You have to hold Power button and tap volume up. Don't press both buttons simultaneously, hold Power, while holding Power tap volume up. If it does not work, then a system update might have changed the process (though highly unlikely I think).

Stock images for e3 Power are available somewhere in the forum. Try flashing stock images. By the way there is no need to format userdata while flashing recovery.
Okay i managed to figure it out spent 5 houres or so had to use SP_Flash_TooL and some USB VCOM drivers for phone this can only be used on MTK chips.
trust me i just saw this post every google search is saying stuff about pressing volume down like it works XDA developers are life and life savers been using this since like 8 years ago and it still going strong had to leave my first comment
My huawei y511-u30 mobile is showing chineese in recovery mode and its not working also. As i want to flash my rom unable to get device detected by pc also
I think my Z1 is really dead.
The phone is stuck on logo screen and gets very hot. The battery fails from full in less than 1 hour. No button combinations will work for reboots to recovery or fastboot and I cannot switch it off (Just reboots to logo screen every time)
I can ADB to the phone but not fastboot. If I adb reboot recovery I get a messed up corrupted screen with green vertical lines and flashing colours. Same for adb reboot bootloader (but only green vertical lines)
I searched around but no-one has this exact problem. I have tried QFIL but I can't get a port as adb reboot edl looks like it goes to the same corrupted screen and nothing happens
So is the phone dead or do you have any suggestions? Any help appreciated

Ok first thing try pressing both volume buttons and power button for 10 sec at a time. And as soon as the phone restarts leave the power button and press both the volume buttons after the vibration to go to recovery. If that doesnt work then use adb commands to restart it.
