problem with the voice transmission circuitry. no voice recognition - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

so, i will try my luck. first thing is, i have a xt1684 retgb. atm i'm on full stock oreo firmware, a backup that i made where everything should have worked fine. after the issue appeared i restored the backup. but yea, it still persists. what a *****y phone.
now i have the problem, that in any case no voice is recognized neither via the build-in mics nor over a plugged headset.
neither a full stock flash to oreo nor to nougat changed it. everything else seems to be working as it should.
really guys, give me any hint to get rid of this. everything is welcome. :fingers-crossed: i count on you. cheers

okay got a little success in camera. in there i got my voice back after re-enabling mic permission in settings. but it doesn't help on google search e.g. .

i got my mic back working. but i still can't tell what caused it. maybe something equal to the problem that causes no touch issue. don't know. flashed a few stock and rom until it worked again. it was a work or die mission. as mentioned in the stock oreo thread it is really neccessary to let every stock flash finish with the initial setup (even if skip everything) till you are on launcher homescreen.

Speaker, WiFi and Bluetooth not working

Please I need your help guys.
My OnePlus2 recently started behaving weird. The Bluetooth, WiFi and External speaker just stopped working for no apparent reason. Every other thing is working. 3G works just fine. I am able to make calls through the normal speaker (i.e. by putting the phone to the ear), but if I decide to switch the calls to the loudspeaker, I can't hear anything. Also, if I play music to the external speaker I can't hear anything unless I connect a wired earphone through the jack. When I try to turn ON the Bluetooth and Wifi, they just turn themselves back OFF, so they have become useless.
Please has anyone experienced anything like these before; if yes, please how did you solve it.

Not too sure about the External Speaker issue, but generally whenever I get Bluetooth and WiFi issues exactly like yours in the past - a reset solved the problem.
But I only ever had issues like that if I'm using a Custom ROM.....
Is your 1+2 using OxygenOS by any chance?

Thank you for your help.
What I mean by the External Speaker is the speaker at the bottom of the phone next to the charging port that enable you listen to the audio, either call or music, without putting the phone to your ear.
Yes, I am on the stock Oxygen 2.1.0. I have also restarted and wipe data and cache more than five times but nothing different has happened so far.
Ahh so the loudspeaker is faulty? The loudspeaker and the wireless module are quite separate hardware, so we've got to hope that it's a software fault - rather than both multiple prices of hardware being faulty.
At this stage do a nandroid backup, then Clean Install OxygenOS 2.2.0. If that doesn't solve the issue, just let us know. (If you need specific instructions on how to do the nandroid backup & clean install, just let us know as well).

Thanks for your support.
I did a nandroid backup as advised and I downloaded and clean install the Oxygen 2.2.0.
The situation didn't change. Its as if the modules are just not present.
For example, when I try to activate the WiFi or Bluetooth, they are animate as if to turn ON; but after a couple of minutes it simply turn back OFF and grey-out.
I even installed the unofficial CM 13 hoping this might solve the problem, but it remains the same.
Do you think this may in any way be connected with the kernel?

Hmm no it shouldn't since you clean installed OOS (that should have flashed the stock kernel too).
Give it a try anyway, try flashing @Lord Boeffla kernel for OOS http://www.boeffla-kernel.de/
Just make sure you download the .md5 as well (ensure the download isn't corrupted).
If that fails, try the stock kernel as well http://boeffla.df-kunde.de/oneplus2/stock-kernel/.
If the above doesn't happen, can you do this check for me?
Shake the phone, tap the phone on a desk (aim around the sim card area), be gentle though, all we need is to ascertain if the signal flex cable is loose.....
Once you shaked and tapped the phone, check if the wifi/bluetooth is working? (if not, give it a reset and try again).....

I have done the suggested steps.
The phone remains the same.
Please see attached the screen shots.
It looks as if these modules/chips just went dead

For your speakerphone issue, I can bet it is related to the modem/ radio.
Please update to the latest modem/ radio (via fastboot) for your device.
Then test calling again and report back.
Note that this issue and solution is not specific to Oneplus. It is applicable to CM 13 on all devices across manufacturers.
Hit the 'Thanks' button if this solution works for you.

Hi Isadeiza, try this modem first (its the 'modem' for MM which might solve the issue finally). https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24415232478675280.
Also try dirty flashing it first, if that doesn't work... Take nandroid then Clean flashing it.
What OxygenOS are you in now btw? As of right now we're up to 2.2.1....

Thank you @localjunkie549.
I have tried installing the modem and bluetooth files in the downloaded file in the link.
I am afraid the phone response remains the same.
I even tried installing the new OxygenOS 3.0, still the same.
Speaker working Now. But BT and WiFi still down.

Hi guys, thank you all for your support.
After a long time, my experience are as below.
After upgrading to OxygenOS 3.0, the behavior of the phone did not change. No sound from loudspeaker, no Bluetooth and no WiFi.
Well I stopped using it until my other phone started heating up so I came back to the OnePlus Two again. One day, I was surprised when the phone started ringing loudly as someone called my line. It worked for about 3 - 4 hours and stopped again. After about 5 days, it came up again for some 4 hours and stopped working again. It does this for over 6 cycles and about 3 days ago it kept working without stopping since.
So I am still observing it for the past three days and it seems to have repented, holding my hopes up high that it will continue to work without hitches again; though I cannot say now what happened, why it stopped working and why it started working now.
The problem of the Bluetooth and WiFi still persist and I still can't use the BT and WiFi. It just behave as if the modules are not present. My fingers crossed expecting them to "miraculously" come back to functional state just as the loudspeaker did on its own.
Thank you all guys for your support.

G4 Plus XT1642 always crashing on first boot @ "checking connection" screen

So i just got a new moto g4 plus XT1642 (UK amazon version) and so of course the first thing i had to do was install a custom rom, so i followed a guide here to unlock it and install TWRP which went fine until i flashed a new firmware, I dont know if i somehow installed the wrong one but now it wont go past the "checking connection" screen on setup without crashing (sometimes it doesnt even get past the welcome language screen) I have tried flashing the stock firmware but it just does the same thing no matter which one i try (XT1642_ATHENE_MPJ24.139-48_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip is the right one i think?)
If anyone could help me get back to marshmellow it started with then i promise i wont mess around with it again :3
Thanks for any help you can give.
Edit: Okay so I finally just went to do the thing i started out to do which was to install the Resurrection Remix rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/rom-resurrection-remix-n-5-8-0-t3507275) so I just thought that maybe if i got it installed it might fix what problems i was having and yeah sure enough i followed what i was supposed to flash first which was (Moto_G4_Plus_XT1643_ATHENE_MPJ24.139-63_Stock_Img) btw and then flashed Resurrection Remix and it just started working again, everything seems fine but I'm worried I might have broken something with all my puttering around with its inside ya know?
But the main thing is phone calls work, texts work, it rooted itself magically, can install unsigned apks and such, wifi works and so does the fingerprint sensor which i heard people were having issues with. So should i just not look for problems and enjoy it maybe? I'm glad i got it sorted im some fashion at least
So I HAVE now noticed that some apps seem to hang/crash sometimes, epecially games, not sure if it has to do with my puttering around though Is there anything I can do to check that everything is working ok? any programs that scan for errors or something?
Happy its working don't get me wrong but no issues would be best ^^
I've got your same model and I use this to get back to stock: XT1621-XT1622-XT1642_ATHENE_MPJ24.139-23.4_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml
If you're running rr and everything works you don't need to do anything just stick with it.

Hey, thanks for the input, I did use that when i was having issues but it still caused that crashing at the connection screen issue sso i dont know why it would work for you and not me, perhaps i needed to get it to a working state before i could downgrade again? I dont really want to try it out now and see, the crashing issue seems to be infrequent so its possible its a different issue (software conflicts or ram overusage maybe?). I'll keep using it and see what issues develop

No Audio After Flashing Stock ROM

My PH-1 worked just fine. I did use it for about two months with the official Oreo-beta build. Now, before selling it, I flashed the latest Nougat-build, went through the setup process and installed the latest update. I missed checking for the audio. Now, it seems the audio in calls does not work at all. The caller can not hear the participant and vice versa.
Any suggestions?
/* solution: (thank you WickedDaemon)
Download and flash older NMJ32F Firmware and update from there.

Thanks for your reply.
But that is exactly what I did. Nougat = latest stock from https://www.essential.com/developer/current-builds
What u mean i missed checking the audio?
I missed checking if calls work. Now you can call or accept a call, but audio won't work. You don't hear the participant and he doesn't hear you.
Same boat here. Flashed with Essential Stock ROM, and everything seemed fine until someone called me. Anyway, I've been banging on this for a couple days. A few things I've tried:
- Tried the VoIP application for my job. No joy..
- Uninstalled/reinstalled Phone app. No joy.
- Installed some other Phone app from Play. No joy.
- Hangouts Dialer seemed to work for a second, but has all sorts of other issues. No joy.
- Reset all data, restored from Google. No joy.
- Reset all data, setup as new phone. No joy.
- Disable OK Google. No joy.
A new clue; the baby monitor app errors out with something about the microphone being in use. But I'm having trouble figuring out which one is locking the mic. Anyone have a trick for this?

It could be a setting in the mobile network for better audio during calls or something like that. Disable that and it will work fine. Happened to me when I went back to stock once.

Are you referring to 'Enhanced 4G LTE Mode'? I just disabled that and tested. No joy.
Side note: After many reboots, reinstalls, and general button pushing, my VoIP app now has sound but still no mic. I removed Microphone permissions on almost everything and started adding them back one by one. Still no joy.
I think something changed within the firmware during the 8 upgrade, then didn't get reverted back during the 7 downgrade. Is there a particular image or partition that needs to be flashed again?

All I do when I switch back and forth is always fastboot -w before I flash and after I flash. May be overkill, but it always works

[Solved] Mic let's Axon crash and reboot

Hi,
i got a strange problem: everytime a app trying to use the mic, the phone crashes and reboots. Thats very annoying. especially If you wanna use your phone for calls
What i've done before: I used Slim5-Rom for very long.
Then i switched to Oreo custom rom for newbies. I installed the B32+B10 based EDL Package.
After ~2 weeks of usage with oreo i switched back to the Slim5-Rom. I used the Party v0.4 script/zip to remove the oreo vendor partition and flashed the Slim5-Rom afterwards.
Everything works fine (magisk, xposed, etc) but everytime a app wanna use the microphone, the phone freezes for 2-3 seconds, crashes and reboots.
I didnt droped the phone since a long time, so i dont think its a hardware issue, reasoned by this, maybe.
Its the G-Variant of the Axon 7.
Does anyone has an Idea what it could be or what to do/try?!
PS: my english isnt the best, but i hope you can understand everything :silly:
Thanks a lot,
Spillunke
EDIT: flashing a newer bootstack and modem fixed the issue. No freeze + restart when an app wanna use the microphone.
Is the Slim5 ROM a newer version ?
No.
Slim5-Rom / 7.1.1. --> Oreo Beta / 8.0 --> Slim5-Rom / 7.1.1.
can you make calls?
Your best option is to flash an original untouched firmware via EDL
if that doesn't fix it, then you mic is broken, most likely
Nope, no calls. A soon as the mic is used/activated, the phone crashes
Hmm is there a flashable B12 EDL somewhere? Cant find one.
Otherwise the Poco F1 is still ordered ;D
I take it that you did a fresh install of the ROM ?
Does it happen with all apps ?
Some info I've read says "mic issues are know in some Linux software"
Mic issues are in 7.1.1 and some Oreo builds
Yes, clean Install.
It happened to all apps, which wanna use the microphone. Dialer, recorder, WhatsApp calls / voice massages, shazam, ...
But yesterday i accidentially solved the problem:
I flashed the B12 bootstack + modem within twrp and now everything works!

Wifi stopped working after flashing back to stock ROM

I have what appears to be a demo device; this one will not do OTA.
So I installed the newer roms but then speech to text, the microphone would not work except only for calling. I downgraded to the stock rom and it was fine.
But I decided to keep trying I was hoping it might be something I did wrong and could upgrade. Still no microphone so I downgraded back to stock again. This time; Wifi completely stopped working. It will not detect any wifi networks. Some goggle searching said that it is possible the modem got messed up. Not sure what to do. I tried flashing again it didn't make any difference.
One thing I noticed though is the first time when downgrading I forgot to turn on USB debugging, but it still allowed me to do it and it went smoothly.
Having no wifi on a smartphone with no apps on it is a bad thing
Well some google search told me if this happens you can flash to the July Oreo update and your stuff will work. I did that and it worked. My ,ic still won't record sound so then I went back to the 7.1.1 and it works fine. Too bad I am stuck with nouget or my mic will not record stound and I cannot do OTA.
Here is the thread I found which was quite helpful.:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/help/wifi-android-p-t3790678
I just used the July Oreo update, the fastboot version.
