What is so special

About google voice?
The only feature I use is voice's voicemail. It will transcribe your voicemail and notify you by text or email, which is pretty cool. Aside from that I don't see the hype either.
Free calls if you have a family plan and enter your GV number.
When I leave the office, I forward my phone to my GV #. Then I can route it to home/cell, etc...
I give out my google number out like free candy...If google recognizes the phone number from my phone book, they are routed to my phone or friendly voicemail..if not, they have to acknowledge who they are- and when i pick up their phone call- google acts like a secretary and says- so and so is calling you, choose 1 to accept or 2 to send to voicemail...once they are sent to voicemail- i can hear them leave a message and press any number to interrupt and answer them directly..
I don't have a home phone number..so this helps insure than Comcast and other stupid number don't have my real number.
I didnt know there was a super hype- but i do think it's awesome technology.
The "listening in" on the voicemail in real time is cool!
free sms = sooooo good.
Free calls to Canada that don't come out of minutes (the GV access number I have set as one of my friends and family) is my main reason for loving Google Voice.
its is a free visual voice mail, optional international calling rates and it transcribes your messages ( you can get an idea of what the message is about but unless the queen is calling and using proper English, you will still need to listen for the exact content)
can some one send me a google voice invite I would really like to give it a try. [email protected] dot com

You have to have an invite?
I am asking because I am tried to setup GV and it could not verify my phone number.
I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
If you have signed up for a google voice account and got your invite though google you don't need a invite. How ever I signed up a couple months ago and still waiting for my invite. They are sure slow at sending them out.
Google Voice
Personalized voice-mail! Every person that calls me gets their own personal voice-mail... That and the visual voice-mail with transcribed message is awesome- also the call screening, and other sweet additions to the service- Google Voice is incredible!
I actually signed up for google voice over a year ago, and it took me a good 4-6 months before I was accepted... It's better to get accepted by google than be invited because then you can invite other people too... Those invited by other google voice customers can't actually invite anyone themselves...

Stock Voicemail Sounds Bad

Anyone else notice that the Voicemail sounds terrible? It sounds metallic and the quality is very low. Is there a fix to this or any other visual voicemail apps that you guys recommend? I did not like Fusion Visual Voicemail.
I totally agree. It sounds terribly "tinny".
When I first got the phone, I turned it on and had a voicemail, and I thought to myself, wow this better not be how the calls sound too.
Yup, the sampling rate seems very low (and/or overly compressed), definitely worse than voice audio.
BTW, does anyone know how these visual voicemail systems work? Are the messages cached on the phone, or are they stored by the carrier on their back end?
My brother complained of this on his EVO as well. I wonder why anyone with Android wouldn't just use Google voice instead. I have and its been great.

I agree with you guys. I just cant stand to use the stock voicemail anymore. If I am in a semi-loud room, I can barely hear any of my messages.
I am trying the Google Voice App. They have an option for voicemail only as well, so I will report back to tell you guys of the quality.
I've been using Google Voice for my voicemail since I had my Hero; I love it.

Might as well get the full number. No point in doing voicemail only. This way you got a second number anyway, and plus Sprint doesn't fully support their automated voicemail setup. I think on Sprint you have to have an actual google voice number to do conditional call forwarding. Google voice gives you the code to set this up on sprint.

[Q] Google Voice Voicemail Issues - Taking 15+ rings for voicemail to pick up

Hey everyone,
So I'm running a GS4 with stock Touchwiz and have been having a ton of issues getting my voicemail working on the phone. I had a GS2 before and absolutely no problems trying to configure voicemail which is the weird part.
Let me run down my current settings...
Currently voicemail settings are:
Voicemail service - Google Voice
Voicemail Number - is what my Google Voice number is
----
When someone calls my REAL number it will ring through on their end 15 times and then Google Voice will finally pick up. At this point it functions properly and if the caller leaves a voicemail I will be notified on my phone. Also, if I were to ignore a call the phone will keep ringing on their end for an extended period of time.
So my question is why is it taking so many rings for the Google Voice account to pick up? Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks everyone!

[Q] Google Voice

I hear Google Voice is going bye bye, and migrating to Hangouts? I just got a Sprint GS5, and for some reason my texts are going to GV. I do not want this and want texts going to my messaging. I am sure I do not have that checked off in the application. Any suggestions???

Google Dialer on oneplus 6t?

One feature that I miss from my Pixel 3xl is when I dialed a local business it had some sort of reverse caller ID feature where the dialer showed me the business I was calling.
I think it's part of the dialer, is there a way to get this on my 6t?
Check out this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/help/google-dialer-app-t3861876
