Ambient 12h Clock Shows Leading 0's - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

How do you make it read 9.00pm instead of 09.00pm?

Can't, as far as I can tell. Apparently that's how people read time in other countries. Drives me nuts, but it is what it is.

What language is your device set to? Might be a long shot...

Apparently, I was right. UK English adds the leading zero.

So does US English.

It's weirder than that. The way my phone is set up, I rarely see my lock screen, so I assumed my lock screen was the same as my ambient screen. However, it's not. My lock screen has no leading 0, but my ambient screen does.
Edit: Thinking about it, it's not weird, I'm using lean launcher, and apparently the launcher doesn't control the ambient screen

Yep, the lockscreen has nothing to do with the launcher. I'm using Nova, but it's like that on the OP launcher as well.

It's probably for symmetry. It seems to display 2 digits for the hours at all times.

HTC clock widgets constantly fidgeting

Does it bother anyone else that whenever you switch back to the home screen, the clocks reset the hands and do the little animations to spin to the correct location? The flip clock does it like it used to in TF3D too, the numbers flip over until they catch up. It seems such a waste of time and cpu cycles. I've tried the default Android clock and it is much calmer, it is always at the correct time regardless of whether you switch back or not. The down side is it isn't as attractive and doesn't take you to the clock app when you press on it.
Anyone else annoyed by this?
Indeed I find it a little annoying...not tried the different clock....
one question, are you able to change the type of clock on your profile?
I seem to be only be able to select different front clocks under different profiles (Scenes) so you are stuck with that clock for that scene?

You can just remove it, then add an HTC Widget and select 1 of 12 clocks (think its 12)

Genuie!!!!! Thanks dude!!!
I also found that when I changed my clock to the small one (so it still fits in the same space on the home screen), my Hero became much more responsive. It still adjusts the time with an animation every time I go to the home screen, but it seems way better. Others have suggested removing the People widget, but for me it was just a change of the clock.
Bugs the hell out of me, so much so I had to remove it.
Hope the new update fixes this problem.

I like seeing the clock flip over! I'm sure it does it by design too, it's not a fault/bug.

It is a fault, the clock widgets can't store the time. So everytime you enter the idle screen it updates the clock.

I don't believe it's a fault either, judging by the way it is animated. It is just designed not to update whilst not visible.
Regards,
Dave
Most if not all of the HTC clock widgets do the animation.
However, on the leaked video of the new speedier ROM, I notice the clock never updates like that, even though it is the big one with weather combined. It just changes immediately, so maybe that is part of the speed up...
i use the smallest one, digital, but not a flip. number 5 i think it is.
yes, if you look closely you can see it update when you go back to the homescreen, but it is so fast, most of the time i don't notice it, and i'm certainly not gonna sit there trying to see it happen, cos it's really not that important to me...
Maybe they added a setting to enable / disable clock animation ?
Hope so as I quite like it.
On the CDMA Hero there seems to be a bug... IN the Clock app, home location and current location show the correct time but most HTC clock widgets insist on displaying the GMT time. What's up with this?

Nexus One Clock Display

Okay, so I've noticed that on both my lock screen and Clock app, that my alarm clocks don't show up as the Human Readable time format. For example, I have an alarm set for 6am tomororow (1/12/2010), and when the lock screen is showing it has the alarmclock icon and show "1263294000000" next to it, which is the epoch time for 1/12/2010 6:00:00 am. It also does this in the clock app on the app's home screen, but if I go into the alarms screen it shows up fine.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Weird. Mine shows up in a normal time. I've tried looking through the clock app, and system settings and couldn't find a way to replicate your issue.
Since yours is rooted it may have something to do with what youve flashed to it so far.
Or maybe not cause im rooted with cyan and just tried and it appeared fine

Lol. Yah. I've got a few friends around here that have basically the same setup. Not really an issue, more a nuisance. But I seriously don't get it. I'll probably try and reset later today and recreate it. I was just curious if any one else noticed this.
Strange.
I have another question for the clock app:
Is there a way to turn off the charging light and the backlight on the capacitive buttons when in the dimmed clock app mode? The screen is actually quite nice and readable in the dark but the bright lights next to it are annoying / wash the screen out some.
Maybe it's something in Locale settings? That's where I'd look.

Trust me, I went through just about every possible 'setting' i could possibly think of. I'm assuming it has something to do with a program i have installed. I haven't had the time to do a reset yet, but plan on giving it a shot later.
Here's what I know though, its not normal, and its not because of root. Seems no one else is having this issue. lol, WTF.

Screen off gestures

I was just wondering if the screen off gestures on the Oneplus One were based on hardware or software? In other words, is there any chance of them coming to this phone with a custom rom? I miss drawing sideways triangles without having to look at my phone while driving to change the music. About the only thing I miss from that phone in upgrading to this really.
Also, anyone else by chance have the Google play store crashing every once in a while?
Many of the third party launchers support gestures. I am using Apex and Screen Lock Pro (which supports Marshmallow/Imprint) to lock my screen when I double-tap the home screen and go to Google Now when I swipe up.

You should always try to be helpful, at least you tried.
ElementalX kernel allows single swipes in four directions and double tap off screen gestures. It's pretty cool. No customizable gestures though (such as drawing arrows or an 'S', etc).

How to change the DPI (no root)

I'm not sure how widely known this is, but it's possible to change the DPI of your new phone if (like me) you find that everything is too big. It's super easy too.
1. Go to About Phone > Software Info and tap the Build number 7ish times to unlock the developer options menu.
2. Back out to settings, enter the Developer options menu now at the bottom of the list.
3. Scroll down until you find the Minimum width setting in the Drawing section about 3/4 of the way down. It's set to 411dp by default on the S8+.
4. Change it to whatever you prefer! Higher number = everything gets smaller, Lower number = everything gets bigger.
Enjoy your extra space!
Awesome.. one problem.. keyboard looks wierd after changing width
If the keyboard looks weird.. Go up on DPI because its breaking up the design.
Im at 460 on highest resolution. And its not breaking that.

Is your AOD centered (if you have it enabled)? I set my S8 to 420 and the AOD was slightly skewed to the right. Tried pushing it down to 411, which I guess is default on the S8+ and it re-centered the AOD. I'm assuming there are various 'accepted' DPI settings that won't break the layout; I think somebody listed them for the Pixel on Reddit, but I can't find a similar listing for the S8. Any ideas?

I also noticed it not being centered after changing the DPI, and what's worse after setting it back to 411 it's still not centered
I'm at 480 and it's great. My aod is centered, but isn't it supposed to move a little very slowly to prevent burn in?

500 here w/ all apps full-screen, bold font just a shade above tiny. So glad this is able to be done w/o root, along w/ multi window for any app!
Any recommendations for a bigger option xd... tried 351 but doesn't seems great.. 411 is too small for me
600 turns on tablet mode, and things are working well. Two issues I've noticed so far:
* The battery icon in AoD doesn't render correctly
* "About Phone -> Status" page causes com.android.phone FC - doesn't seem to have any ill effects besides not being able to open that page. Need to go 599 or lower to get it to open again.
480 is a good one

Hey, can you elaborate on the multi-window? I haven't messed around with mine that much yet, and I haven't seen anything mentioned anywhere else.
I remember doing this on the Note 7 I think and I remember that though I liked it, I wanted to go back, so when I set it back to the DPI that it was before, it didnt actually restore everything to the way it was. I noticed someone on here mentioned they set it back to 411 and that did NOT bring things back to stock. Can anyone else confirm?
Im on the s8+ and I love smaller icons/txt so I'd like a higher DPI, but scared that if I dont like it, I will not be able to get everything back to stock without restoring the phone, which I really dont want to do lol.
Also, what is AoD?
I use Nova, so not sure what it stands for.

I haven't noticed anything that doesn't change back. If there are certain font sizes etc that don't change back, I would suspect a reboot would fix that, but I can't tell you for sure. AoD is 'Always on Display', the clock/date/battery/etc display that comes up on the screen when the screen is "off".

Sure thing!
Settings>Advanced Features>Multiwindow: Enable both
Developer options>Force activities to be resizable: Enable
Once you've done that, hold your recents button to use multi-window whenever you'd like. I tend to use the feature for most of my daily work, and in my opinion is the most useful native addition in years.
I should mention as well, enabling "screen pinning" (Settings>Lock Screen and Security>Other Security Settings>Pin Windows) and using it when still wanting to keep another app full screen is very beneficial! Once enabled, you can access the feature w/ the recents button as well. Just hold down on the app.

Can the navbar be transparent/opaque?

I HATE how the navbar turns to black on most apps.......it is so annoying
Samsung is like "here, have this beautiful, large, near-bezelless screen.....but lets shut a portion of the AMOLED screen off on the bottom with a HUGE BLACK BOX THAT MAY AS WELL BE A BEZEL."
Shouldn't there be an option to make it transparent like it is when you're on your home screen...or at the very worst, just shaded like when you're in Bixby?
Was already answered on OT

is transparent in some apps - i guess its app dependent - but it reverses to black/white or whatever is your selected colour when typing or so
i guess it's up to the app developers to allow it in their apps

Immersive mode looks amazing on this phone. Haven't had any issues with any apps. Do note that some apps, like Samsung messages, have their text field all the way at the bottom - so it's a little annoying to swipe up to bring up the navigation bar since it also touches the field which brings up the keyboard. It takes a bit to get used to on certain apps.
The app i'm using to get the Immersive mode toggle is ShortCutter Quick Settings - from the play store.

Am I wrong? When I just got the S8 it seems most apps had the nav bar transparent. Even twitter, Chrome, etc.
Now it's always black. Only transparent/ opaque in some Samsung native apps.
I thought the whole point was to make it less bezel.
Any idea what's going on?
