Long story short. i have the oneplus 6 along with 2 other people i know and we all have the same issue. when our headphones are in and we receive a call, the ringer blasts full volume through the headphones, whether music is being played at a lower volume, or the phone is in standby on silent or vibrate. is there any known fix to this issue?? Setting notification to "never" in the earphone mode settings have 0 effect on the 3 different phones that i have tried to do this with.
any advice would be appreciated

Anyone have a problem like this:
I did a had reset but it still is doing this-
The speaker plays my ringtones out loud even when my headphones are plugged in!!
Thanks,
Daniel
Mine has always been like that, whicever ROM I used.
Really????
My old XDA never did this...
So if i'm listening to music I run the risk of having my ringtone play out loud??
Is the only solution to change my ring prefrences to vibrate only when i'm listening to music (since the phone volume itself cannot be muted)??
When I preview the sound it doesnt play out loud
I don't have such problem with original headset. But, if I use bluetooth headset it happens.
So this is not normal....
How do I fix it?
I tried a hard reset- didn't work!!
Playing the ringtone out of the speaker even though the headphones are in is normal with most if not all phones. The headphones are only to listen to music and calls.
If you had the phones in but not in your ears and the phone rang only in the headphones how would you hear it?
Why would your headphones be plugged in if you are not listening to music?? And to answer your question- you would know the phone is riging by it vibrating.
Anyways- many people told me this is not normal...so there must be a way to change it.
Also, when I am in silent or vibrate mode and I accidentaly or even purposely push my Voice Command button the beep sound will come out of the speaker-
It will change the sound icon from Vibrate or Silent to the regular icon but will stay in silent/vibrate mode-
Is this normal??

Not sure about the voice command question but with regards "WHy would you have your headphones in if you're not listening to music" the answer is to use the phone handsfree.
Whether this is in the car (law over here) or while in the office a lot of people over here use headphones instead of holding the phone to your ear, some believe that the safer or healthier. No real proof but handsfree is popular.
Saw this same post on the Neonode forum and the SE's do the same so I presumed normal and as I say if you were using the headphones as handsfree if actually a good thing. Yes the vibrate would tell you but say you're at someone else's desk and can't hear the phone vibrating across your desk (hell of a vibrate really isn't it).
Anyway, hope that answers the headphones question
So why did some people say this doesn't happen to them?
That's an unanswerable question. It could be any number of reasons and going on the state of play with the ROMs is possibly down to this.
Going through the forums its amazing the number of people that have different problems with apparently the same phone.
I have the exact same problem, and am still looking for a solution.
The most irritating thing is that when I turn all ringtones off (only vibrate on) and I receive an incoming call, the sound that is currently playing (windows media player or some other program) is played for a fraction of a second thru the external speaker (the program pauses the mp3 playback on an incoming call, but this happens to late). Because of this it's impossible to use the phone for MP3 playback in a place where it's important that no sound is produced.
It would be really nice to completly turn the external speaker off when a headset is plugged in (i find it really strange this isn't the case right now).
It would be nice if someone found a solution for this (in my opionion) huge problem.
Yea,
I found this is irritating too,
I am using pocketMax Phonealarm
and mute:
- system volume
- phone volume
but max the call volume ( as I think that's required to answer a call)
I plugged my headset (using 2.5mm to 3.5mm jack) and listen the music using winamp & increase the volume, apparently the system volume is increased too ==> I think that's the reason why everytime:
- incoming phone call
- any reminder
is sounded in the headset too.... totally [email protected]@[email protected]#
Any solution for this????!!!!!
I like to listen to audio books. So most of the time I leave my ear buds connected to the phone. Every android phone I've had. Has rang the ringtone at the volume. You have it set on the phone, when you get a call. But on my phone it rings so low you can barely hear it in a quiet room. I would say you wouldn't be able to hear it ring with a headset connected to the 3.5mm connector in a loud area. Is this issue just my phone or is there a setting I need to adjust. Any help is much appreciated
edit: also I've disconnected the earbuds while its ringing and it returns the ringtone to full volume. Yes I have turned the ringer volume up with the headset connected to the phone and that doesn't help
have you ever been able to figure it out? I'm having the same problem.
If I connect S8 to wired earbuds, I can hear the notification sound( music volume not reduced) but not that clear as the notification sound is mixed with music. This gets worse if S8 is connected to a Bluetooth headphone--I can barely hear the notification sound( sometimes notification sound is not played at all, I don't know why). I switched from iPhone 7 and found this pretty annoying. I missed a lot of notifications while listening to music over Bluetooth. Anyone know how to reduce the music volume on notification? I looked through all the settings and didn't find anything useful.
Thanks for any useful information!
I'm actually looking for this very thing. For me, no matter what sound device I use, wired, wireless, etc., audio ducking is way too annoying for notifications I'm not necessarily interested in immediately (e.g. Facebook group updates from groups I rarely visit).
Im bumping this up
I have a s8+ duos with similar problem. But only with Bose qc35.
If music is playing and connected with Bluetooth, no notification sound is heard. Music is only slightly reduced in dB for a second or two then back to normal.
With cable /wired, the notification is heard loud and clear.
This happened two weeks ago and was working great until then. Reset doesn't work. Have no clue about.
Same here
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
I found a solution. For me at least.
Connect Bluetooth headphones
Reduce media volume to very low.
Keep notification sound at 25-30%.
Now increase volume on your headphones - if you can.
Try send a message to yourself or similar just to let you hear if the notification sound is heard or not.
.....
I also enabled dualsound and turned it off at the same time so Im not sure which of these settings that were the solution.
Try both.
It seems my bose qc 35 have different sound presets depending on which device its connected to since my sony phone didn't have this issue. Doesn't matter even if the bose where reset, downgraded or removed device list.
And this issue was only on a dualsim. Tested against several s8 and regular s8+. Very strange.
I am using a BlueParrott headset with my Essential (nougat), it worked great with my V10. When I make a call the audio is so quiet I cannot hear it while driving (voice prompts, ringing, and voice mail), until they answer then I can hear fine. If I turn the volume all the way up I can hear it ring but when they answer its very loud. I've rebooted, repaired, and turned bluetooth off/on, I've played with all the volumes. I seem to remember this happening with my S3, but I had do many roms on that phone I don't remember the fix. Anyone have a suggestion?
I have just recently had decreased volume issue on my PH-1.
Previously output volume levels were excellent.

If your problem is specific to BT and/or wired speaker-out volume levels ..., you may want to play with the settings related to absolute volume.
Settings/Developer Options/Disable absolute volume - Toggle On/Off
Unfortunately that didn't help. I think I'll upgrade to oreo when I get home next weekend, maybe it will help.
hey i buy new charge 3 , the sound gone in phone and from pc bluetooth, i used phone via bluetooth, battery left on speaker one of 5, hmm i thought phone problem , but today from pc same like phone gone sound, when i turn off speaker and turn on sound is on,when gone sound speaker is on, not turn off, and dont disconnected from bluetooth. i listen 100% volume not boosted songs. from phone i downloaded app black player music where can set boost bass , and visualator, i set to 100 and visualator 100, i dont listen at highest volume and boosted songs, no. i know on speaker via key can power low frequency mode, i dont do that. so where can be problem? speaker damage with bass boost and visualator from the app? or go to service centre and say brock speaker? i do factory reset. on flip 3 nothing same problem like this i listen 100 percent at bass boost songs and turn on low frequency mode on flip 3
