keyboard - LG V20 Questions & Answers

What keyboard do you all use/recommend with this phone? I used to use kii long ago, but it seems they've been removed. I would like a keyboard I can push to the side for one handed typing.

Better Keyboard?

is there a better keyboard for the HD2? I tried using swype, but it's not the same as the android version I had on my G1, and I tried using the stock keyboard, but I must have fat fingers because I can't type too fast without tons of errors. Are there alternative keyboards (not swype) that I could use?
Just to know, have you tried the version of Swype from the 2.13 ROM?
It's a pretty substantial update and performs much better than the previous release from the 2.10 ROM.
resco keyboard pro
I think you get a 7 day trial period before it ask you to register it. The keyboards skins are available for download online off their site.
TouchPal 4.0. I love it.
I was actually surprised to see how bad HTC keyboard is on WinMo compared to Android (Hero, specifially).
I tried swype, but it's got a learning curve.
The problems I have with HTC keyboard are not so much due to the keyboard itself, but the language filter sometimes makes some strange suggestions or sometimes it won't suggest words even though you missed your keypress by one key, which is odd since the Hero was very good at word suggestions.
I notice the problem is with the English dictionary because, when I switch to Spanish or Italian, it works perfectly.
My other problem is more hardware based. Since the HD2 has no trackpad, HTC keyboard has those horrible arrow keys, and they couldn't have worse placement. Very often I'll miss hitting the spacebar and hit either the arrow keys or the "v" (most often the "v").
Typing in landscape mode is again akward because of the arrow keys, they're on the thicker side of the device (more bezel at the bottom), so you have to stretch your hand to type, and very often too, I'll hit the t9 button on/off trying to hit "A", same goes for typing "l" trying to hit "enter".
You'd think that on a device with such a vast screen real estate, missed presses would be a non-issue.

Swype Landscape Spacebar in Bottom Center?

Is there any way to set swype up so that when you go into landscape it puts the spacebar at the bottom center of the screen?
Or even better. Have it use Swype on Portrait and Stock Android keyboard on Landscape.
I'm not a fan of the spacebar on the right nor swyping with landscape.. I like to type with my thumbs.
Any solution?
I too want a separate keyboard in landscape, but after realizing it probably won't happen I set my default to htc_ime and then when I want to text portrait I just long press and temporarily set to swype. I like it that way since swype doesn't do urls to well for me (nonstandard words)
As far as the location of the space, i think if it was centered it would interfere with the swiping?
The point is that I wouldn't swype when I'm in landscape, I'd type on the swype keyboard. I prefer a middle space for that.
I guess I'll just go with your method, though.
I actually don't have my Vibrant yet. It's coming today. Pumped as hell.
So, no solution?

[Q] Best Keyboard for your A500

What keyboard do you use on your Iconia? And why?
I'm looking for a good keyboard, so tell me what you use.
I use SwiftKey X Tablet.. why?
I love the split keyboard where each thumb has the ability to reach each key if you're holding the tablet on landscape; like you're holding a steering wheel. With the default keyboard, your thumb normally cannot reach the center of the keyboard where letters TYGHVBN are.
Any other keyboards out there have special features out there that are designed for tablets? I want to know.
I use thumb keyboard on my A500. It was free on the amazon app store

The Logitech K400 is a wireless kb with trackpad that uses a small USB dongle. Instant response and the trackpad works.
For touch, I like the Swype keyboard. Zero complaints. For a tactile keyboard, I use an HP wireless USB mouse/keyboard combo that sat unused for years until I got my A500.
Try "any soft keyboard". Its a little obscure, but I turned off the word prediction and added a number row to the top. If you pinch out it will split the keyboard and if you pinch in it will put it back to normal.
+ 1 for Swype.... I use for tablet and phone
Hackers Keyboard for touch screen, and I just use my old folding Palm Bluetooth keyboard for longer typing. The Palm keyboard works perfectly, folds small, saw no reason to get something newer.

Keyboard mods

So let me start out by saying I like the default JB keyboard. However it is missing 2 crucial things for me. A tab button and the ability to long press keys. Has there been any modding going on yet for the keyboard?

I miss all the extra long-press characters, too. It used to be the top row could be long-pressed for numbers and stuff, and other keys for other symbols. I never use the accents anyway, though I think it is good that Google includes them.
I really like the new keyboard, too. I still use thumb keyboard instead, so I can have escape, tab, page up and page down keys, but I prefer how the default keyboard provides various punctuation. It's easy to get to the - and _ symbols, apostrophe and comma have their own keys, and so on.
The new look is very clean, though.

I'm going to try and use the keyboard from the cm9 rom on the touchpad since it has more options for long press keys and a tab button. Hopefully it installs.
Long press is working great on 4.1.1 keyboard. My question is if there is a way to enable popup on key press. Not only I like that feature but it helps me type also. Thanks!
Hacker's Keyboard from the Play Store will give you either the Gingerbread style keyboard or a full 5 row keyboard.
Both the Gingerbread and 5 row keyboard have the long-press feature on the number keys, with the full set of symbols. It also has popup keys.
The 5 row is a full keyboard with arrow keys, ESC, CTL, ALT, FN keys, etc. Works great in terminal emulator, it's essential with vi.
I use the 4 row Gingerbread in portrait mode and the 5 row in landscape. That's the default, but you can change it.
The only thing I don't like in Hacker's Keyboard is the click sound - it is much louder than the stock click. Probably easy to fix by swapping out a resource or sound file, but I haven't looked.

[Q] Smaller than stock keyboard with swipe?

Is there a keyboard available for Nexus 7 that is smaller than the stock keyboard?
Even in portrait mode the keyboard feels unnecessary large. It would be easier to swipe if the keys were not as far apart.
I would prefer if it was "phone sized" also on a tablet.
It would also be useful if there was a numpad using the now free space on the sides, but it is not necessary
While searching for this I have seen some keyboards that splits the keyboard and adds a numpad in the center, but I guess those are made for thumb-keying and not swiping, so this is not really what I'm looking for.
Does such a keyboard exist?
