Recovering Android Messages after Intl flash - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

I am beyond frustrated and at a loss on how to recover my texts. For some reason, messages didn't restore. I've researched everything possible and used ADB to try and force the backup. I'm not that savvy on all of these mods etc. I greatly appreciate any assistance.

What did you use to backup?

Google drive. I've always had luck with that previously. Should have used the OnePlus switch.

Keep in mind going forward if recommend using another app not sure if you're rooted or not but there's lots of alternatives with or without root. OnePlus Switch does a good job except I don't think it restores MMS messages just simply SMS.

Thanks. I just download SMS backup for the future. Wish I could get my old messages back though!

Keep settings, layout etc of stock rom?

Hi all, must have been asked but not sure what to search for so can't find it.
I've been using completely stock up until now and will be rooting once I get my new PC through. So I have all the apps, accounts, settings, layouts etc as I want. Can I backup any of this and restore it properly onto a custom rom?. Most likely will be Paranoid.
Thanks.
You can try to use my backup pro since you're not yet rooted. As far as I know, you can use it without rooting. Probably wit limited functionality. But definitely you cannot get away from restoring some of your settings manually. There's simply no seamless way right now.

Backup via ADB?

Hey everyone
My Nexus 4 screen cracked, I'm sending it to LG for repair, they explained it will be factory wiped.
Before i send it, can someone explain to a n00b how I can back up my phone's data? I can't use the phone at all, the digitizer is cooked.
Thank you!

For the SD card, use adb pull. Your apps should be backed up with your Google account

Note that adb backup can be unreliable. I suggest making several types of backups--with APK, without APK, with system, without system, etc. Because you don't know which one will restore properly. Also do the more traditional backups, like SMS backup.

Truthfully, i'm interested in saving my pictures - everything else is salvageable.

That's easy if they're in /sdcard/DCIM. ADB could theoretically back up your photos ("adb backup -shared"), but I wouldn't trust something so important to a tool that didn't appear quite reliable when I tested it.

I appreciate the input!
I totally just realized, I can just plug my phone into the computer and copy and paste. The phone works - the screen just won't register touches. Very silly of me!

Text/MMS location

Can someone please tell me where text/mms messages are stored. I have a bunch of pictures that I don't necessarily want to save to my phone but I do want to hang on to temporarily. Being the flash happy fool that I am I would like to transfer those texts and mms to what ever rom I am on for that day. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're such a flash happy fool, you should know by now how to backup and restore your messages. The Web is full of "how to's".

Actually I do know how to back up my text messages but the problem is the mms messages. When I restore the mms it doesn't restore the pictures. But thanks for playing.

Nah no loved one doing a check-up, lol. Does titanium back do mms messages also. I haven't used it since I had my Evo Lte and it would only restore text not mms.

Because the messages are stored deeply in the file system. Don't think that anybody does backup and restore them like this. Yes, titanium does restore sms and mms.

try this. flash in recovery.
Always saving the day. That did it. Thank you. It wiped some of my data though lol. That's what I get for not making a backup. I've been wanting to update the Rom anyway. Speaking of Roms, will the 10 be blessed with fluent Rom? ?

Glad VVM is working.

Switching from Galaxy Note 2 to LG v20

Hey guys!
I am switching from Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to LG v20 and was wondering how to import all my data from Note 2. I have few backups with Samsung Kies and is there a way to just import a fresh backup from Kies to LG?
I will prefer a program like Samsung Kies for Windows that can work with both phones but if there's an App that I can install on both phones and transfer data via bluetooth / wifi or something is fine too.
Thanks!
You have to use LG backup, download it from the play Store

Thanks Nick, I just checked it on playstore and there are many reviewers saying its not working with new LG phones. I will still give it a try when I get the phone.
Any other suggestions are appreciated!

I had issues with it myself mainly stemming from time constraints so I can't comment on that myself

Some carriers like AT&T have apps to do it as well.

I used the app to move from my Note7 to my V20. It moved all my apps (without saved data), call logs, contacts, and texts.

I did it as well - but just as a suggestion, when setting up the V20, make sure your sim card is in or it's connected to wifi and make sure that you setup your google account. Otherwise it will not install your apps.
First go round, I bypassed the google screen and was going to do it after and I still had my sim in my Note 7 and was at work (no wifi) and it did not install any of my apps.
I made a backup on my SD card using LG backup, installed the SD card in my lgv20 and transferred it that way. Worked out fine.
