Hello
I don't like TouchWiz, like most I thing its a bad copy of iOS.
Can we completely remove TouchWiz? I understand that if I install LauncherPro touchwiz il still work in the background...if we root SGS can we remove touchwiz? if yes how can we remove it?
Not unless if you root your phone, and not until a stock android ROM is available for Galaxy S.
I want to root my SGS but after I root the sgs how can I remove touchwiz?

Correct me if I'm wrong but...
Parts of i9000's applications/services rely on code that exist in the TouchWiz package. Until a stock android ROM is released that can replace these code parts entirely removing TouchWiz won't be possible (without breaking your phone, that is).

I might just confuse the issue, by "stock" I read "vanilla" (I know how to root, but definitely don't know the lingo). I also assume that some functions he'd be ok with staying similar, like how the ROM communicates with the phone's radio and makes calls. The available ROMs should definitely accomplish this, even if leaving some of the functionality untouched.
I don't know all the ROMs available, and know even less about the underlying functionality save but 1 or 2. And, specific to how I might be confusing "stock" with "vanilla" but he didn't specifically ask for Vanilla, so wouldn't he just need a ROM that isn't TouchWiz UI to accomplish his main goal? He's definitely trying to eliminate at least some, if not most or all, of the wasted background software functions that his phone is currently doing if he uses an "overlay UI" (sorry again for lack of terminology). And maybe I haven't helped anyone even point him in the right direction.

I'm no master of the details, but the way I write stock could indeed be considered vanilla. Basically, stock would be Android 2.1 without any kind of third party Launcher, ie Nexus One style.
The way I've come to understand it is that the "launchers" that come with phones (Sense, TouchWiz) are not only Launchers but also provide a layer to communicate with the hardware.
It should be possible to replace this with custom roms, or in some way replace that layer of communication. But until this is done it won't be possible to simply remove TouchWiz entirely.
There also doesn't seem to be that many ROMs that officially support i9000 yet, though I haven't really looked too deeply.

I've just installed LauncherPro, using Home Switcher to select LauncherPro as default, the TouchWiz Start process doesn't seem to launch at boot. Seems perfectly okay to me.

You're just not seeing it, in more than one sense of the word. It's still consuming memory, which, I'll assume, is the OPs concern. We all would like a bit more memory with a bit less bloat.
The best way to test is, don't use LauncherPro, check your memory with all the tasks killed. Then, reboot with your typically setting with LauncherPro and Home Switcher, your available memory will be lower by about 20mb (I know not much, but we are probably trying to eliminate more than 20MB of wasted memory by eliminating a lot of the bloat TW might be adding.
android has this annoying issue even it there in jellybean 4.3. it merges two different contacts i wish there was method to turn that stupid funcionality off. anyways can we do some modding in stock contactprovider or something to turn off the feature?
i want to make a mod but i m not able to find the code where it is implemented any help???
Hi all,
I've been a long-time Cyanogenmod user, and been very happy overall. However, as they expand to so many devices, and time their final updates together, I no longer benefit from quick access to new versions of Android since I've only got Nexus devices (for example: https://plus.google.com/+CyanogenMod/posts/HpXkXU98R7q)
Realistically, I only use a few CyanogenMod features that go beyond a stock Nexus ROM:
Root
Numerical Battery
Clock Widget
Bluetooth Tethering
Expanded Desktop (Might not be required with KitKat)
Pie Controls (With Expanded Desktop, might not be required with KitKat, either)
Given that, and KitKat's full screen capabilities, it brings me down to Root, numerical battery and BT tethering, which are pretty easy to enable on a stock ROM. However, every time I OTA update, I loose it all. And to get root back, many times I have to re-unlock which causes a hard-reset, loosing all my data, too.
So, the question: Is there a ROM that's close to stock, with root, that either has or would be easy to add the above features? Or, is there an easy way to create my own. I'm also looking for something that could be repeated across multiple Nexus devices (4/5/7/10).
Thanks,
Ben
Although I don't use it, so I'm no expert, I think the Xposed Framework would do the things you want.

Hi all,
I'm trying to use a single static image with a resolution of 1080x1920 I'm on stock 4.3 rooted. I used the app Image 2 Wallpaper to get the image to apply without cropping and it looks like it would look great if it was centered and not scrolling.... I've attached a screenshot to show what this looks like. I've modded it slightly already to use the GEL launcher and would prefer to keep using it as I love the Google Now integration. If there is anything i can do i know for the note two there has been a modded touchwiz as seen here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1960039
Does anything similar exist for our device? Aside from that one side question with root and xposed tools could i change the default sprint boot animation by flashing a zip or do i need a custom rom?
THANKS MUCH!!!!
Try HERE
Or HERE depending on whether you are MDL, MF9 or MJA.
Most don't have scrolling wallpaper. If it does, it says so.
THANKS SO MUCH!!! The second link did it for me! I was getting very annoyed with stock Samsung crap as I haven't used it on any devices since I had my last phone. It's definitely gotten worse over the years
In any event I am getting happier the more I mod my device although the new Knox warranty thingy really pisses me off. Total off topic side note is there any way to root a device with Knox without triggering the efuse??? Can the efuse itself be disabled or completly removed??
Other than that THREAD SOLVED A THOUSAND THANKS TO YOU!!!
Before the OTA update to 4.4 I had green android emoticons and have been very attached to them since my first Android phone, an EVO 4g. Now it seems like they've been removed for favor of the ascii characters. Does anyone know how to get them back? I switched over to cyanogenmod thinking it would bring them back, but that didn't solve it.
Any ideas? Also, why would they change this? It seems very strange to me that they would remove them and it's starting to feel like Android is losing its personality.
Stranger than that IMO, any android phone that doesn't support the new emoji and instead uses the old style causes the nexus to display just the text equivalent ( , etc) rather than an emoji...really annoying. Not sure how that was overlooked or if there's a fix....
