I've removed some software via adb pull, rm, etc. but my manage applications list, still shows some of these pieces of software.
How can I clear this data to reflect true, current installations?
Thanks.

Was this answered? I need to know how to do this too. Searches throughout forum didn't find any results about this for me. Thanks.
I've found that if I open "com.smithmicro.DM" or "Download Manager" in Manage Applications and then "Clear Data" in either one of them, it refreshes the Manage Apps list and all the ghost apps are gone. But after every reboot these ghost apps are in the list again, so that isn't a permanent fix.

never got a response, and just sort of let it go. I'm sure there is a .db file somewhere that stores this information.
Anyone have any idea?
Try adb sync.

Gosh, I can't find anything out there about how to use adb sync, been searching for a good half hour or more. The few hits I found didn't make sense to me.
I enter 'adb sync' and get returned to me: "Product directory not specified; use -p or define ANDROID_PRODUCT_OUT"
Get that even after entering 'adb remount' then 'adb sync'. I have also read 'adb help all' and don't understand what all that means -- it's a little over my head.
Any further help/thoughts? Thanks.
I'm looking through my nandroids .img files and attempting to determine where this information is stored. I found some stuff in the data/data directory which seems to be folders for all the apps we have ever installed on the phone. even ones I know I have removed.
I'm going to nandroid and attempt to remove them and see if that will fix our problem. It is annoying to go into Applications and have it take forever to load with 30-40 apps that aren't even installed anymore.
I'll update you in a bit.

well i removed it and it shows 0kb now as the size where before it showed the size of the folder. I'm rebooting to see if it works.
Well...apparently I'm in a bootloop. let me try clearing Dalvik
Now I have my nandroid, but does anyone know why removing a file in /data/data would cause a bootloop? It was leftover from a program that I removed via ADB when I first flashed my current ROM.
Thanks.

Don't know the answer to that. Side question: Did what you do actually remove those ghost apps/pieces from the Manage Apps list? Or I guess maybe you never found out because of the bootloop?
Thanks for trying something.

The item was still in the list, but it showed 0.0 kb where as before it showed like 75kb or whatever. I was trying to reboot to see if it would rebuild the file that it sued, but....i got stuck in my bootloop and had to nandroid...

Any updates on this anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
No biggie, just kinda annoying and would like to get to the bottom of it .
I've been attempting a solution to this annoying issue. Read somewhere in here someone refer to an app on the market capable of doing this...
Try reflashing your recovery. It seemes like your nandroid your restoring may still have the data from the apps you pulled out. So when you delete them and wipe everything but then do a nand restore I think your putting the leftover data back on. In my experience when I pull or delete system apps that I don't use I always do them this way.
Using TB I delete all the apps I don't use. Then in TB I refresh the app list to show current app installed. Then I go into my manage apps settings to force close TB then clear data then unistall Tb. Then I reboot and let the phone settle in. Then I power down and reboot into recovery with power and home. I used to with the volume down and power but Ive always had bootloops and errors that way. Since I started using power and home I've had no problems. Anyways-- Then I wipe cache and dev cache and reboot once more. After that I reboot and then do a nand backup. I know its a lot and I'm not sure if this will help you at all but just thought Id put it on here in case it might. Well good luck and I hope you get it all worked out.
Root-Hack-Mod-Always™
Thank you, i will try what you have suggested. I use TB, and am familiar with the whole process, but have never wiped cache and dev cache.
I completely agree with your statement of "letting the phone settle in", so true...

Yes because you have made changes to the system. Any missing files will prevent you from applying OTA updates.
BTW why not just use the built-in method of disabling apps in Android? Once they have been disabled and you reboot they won't be launched, won't take up resources etc etc. Deleting them from the system is just daft since you cannot reclaim that space for your own files.

Is space from deleted apps really not reclaimed? That's strange...so for example the 5,52 MB available (or better the free MB amount of those 5,52) won't increase after deleting built-in apps?

Just disabling your apps won't free much internal memory as deleting apks will.

Deleting apps on the /system partition will not give you any additional space on /data either, so there is no point in deleting them. Disabling them is the more logical way if you want to get rid of them.

The internal memory and the /system are two separate partitions. You cannot access the free space on /system unless you are rooted (and you have limited use of it even if you are rooted, for example you can move apps there with titanium backup, but cannot use it for storing media files).
Great! Works perfectly.
The general performance is slightly improved, and the battery life is better than stock. With the Faux123 kernel, the battery life (if correctly configured) is impressive.
Thans a lot.
Which apps are being the deleted exactly? (Did i miss a post about that?)
Hello
I have this problem. whenever I open play store and apply updates or install new apps, the play store crashes and the updates are interrupted until I re-open it and resume the update manually. This doesn't seem to happen when the updates are done in the background automatically without opening the store first. I have already tried uninstalling, deleting cache and data, reboot etc. but the problem persists.
I have the Samsung Galaxy note 3 SM-N9005 LTE version with rooted kitkat 4.4.2

I see that very few people have this very annoying issue
I just don't want to resort to factory reset. I mean I know it will probably fix it but I just don't feel like setting my phone up again from the start which is time consuming, besides, what would be the purpose of this wonderful community if all problems were solved by wiping up one's phone.
I was wondering if the cause could be some poor memory management or bad cleaning/anti-virus apps interfering with the memory management I mean I am a complete noob in terms of android management but I assume when there are multiple apps being downloaded/updated at the same time it must consume a great deal of resources but for an app to crash without even the popup message that says "....has stopped" I have never seen before

Maybe you try to get a appstore.apk, delete your's wipe Cache and then install the apk.
I would also recommend data wipe though cause with backup (I use titanium) it'll be less time consuming than everything else. Just backup user data and you won't have to set it up again. The thing is it's not guaranteed that the problem lies within playstore and since we don't have your phone in our hands it is nearly impossible to point you to the exact fix.

well... speaking of backup I also use titanium and nandroid, thank god for that because earlier I tried something stupid (suggested here on XDA though) I cleared the app store cache and data which is fine because I did it before with no problem but then I cleared the google services framework data/cache, I wish I hadn't because it literally messed everything up. I was unable to connect at all to the store even though I had a good network connection. thank god it worked again after I restored the app/data
I can live with that issue. it's not such a hassle since I usually check the play store for updates every day at least. but I may try your first suggestion though. thanks 4aces

As you wish b careful though. I think (definitely not 100% sure) you have to put the apk file in device/system/apk with es file Explorer or root Explorer and than put the permission to rw rr.
That's why I recommend full wipe.

thanks for the link. maybe I could try to update it as my version is 4.6.17 which is older than 4.8.19 and see if there is a change. One thing I don't understand is that one can only disable it and not uninstall it so does that mean it's a system app even though it's not in the /system/app folder? should I convert it to user app with titanium prior to update?

One more suggestion. Try to open application manager in settings and select all. Look for download manager and clear the cache then reboot.
If it doesn't help wait for other replies or wipe data will have to do the work.

I tried that but didn't help. then I tried to update and move to system, made it even worse as play store crashed as soon as I hit the update button. Reinstalling the app wouldn't help so I had to restore a nandroid backup. I'm giving up now but won't waste time doing a wipe data because it's not a real issue since I'm able to update anyway by hitting the button and close play store right after. All my apps still update in the background anyway
Ok, hello my friends.
I installed some high graphic games like Horn, Modern Combat and etc. They were completely fine a few days ago but today I tried to run them and they started downloading data. then I went to see if the data files are fine but they were all deleted but the storage didn't get free. I factory resetted the phone and started installing the games again. they worked just fine but a few hours later, again the same thing happened. all data files got deleted without any space getting free. please help me and please don't tell me that there is something wrong with my internal storage cause I don't think that's easy to fix.

Your post is hard to read. Why don't you use paragraphs?
As to your issue, it's a lot more likely that your game simply continues to reserve the space (poor design). Perhaps try clearing the game's app cache
Settings > Applications > Application mgr > downloaded > (game name) > force close > clear cache
.

thanks man. about the writing I'm really sorry, It was a little hasty. I did clear the cash, I even uninstalled the game, but still the space is used.
up to even three days ago everything was fine. can it(this automatically deletion) be because of an update?
Furthermore doesn't an update in the system roll back when I reset to factory?

If you checked carefully, then it's a bug. Much more likely a game bug than an Android one.
A factory data reset wipes the user data and settings in the /data partition. It would not remove an OTA update or otherwise affect system files. Only restoring a pre-OTA backup or installing an earlier version of the full stock firmware will supplant the update.

Thank you so much. So I guess it must have been an update that caused the problem(and I say this because it was working for about a month and now factory reset wouldn't help).
Oh and it happens to all my games, so it's not a game problem.
Thanks for replying
same problem here
hey buddy have you found any solution yet..
i got the same problem in my galaxy s4..:crying::crying::crying:
Any solution!
I have found a workaround and I thought it would be a nice idea to wirte it here.
I came to the counclusion that if I did a fresh new reset factory and installing a large mount of files in the internal storage's obb folder it ended up being deleted after rebotting my tablet.
So I decided to do a few steps the next time I reseted my tablet. First, I copied my files using my pc into the SD Card. Then, I installed a random game from Google Play so the tablet could "adapt itself" and install its own obb folder. After that, I installed my apps but not all at once but one at the time and rebooting after every installation for making sure it was all ok.
It concluded not having the error again and after having deleted the random game from the begining my tablet had finally worked.
Hope this idea helps someone having the same problem as I did. Just don't copy all obb files at once, don't copying it directly from the computer but copying them from the SD Card and install some random game for making sure it can at least hold those obb files.
Good luck!
Apps like SDMaid and CCleaner might help too
I wanted to bypass the kitkat restrictions and be able to upload directly to the external SD card with AirDroid, but this seriously backfired on me lol. Ever since editing the platform.xml file in /system/etc/permissions/ and rebooting the phone I've been stuck in a continuous force close loop. I've wiped the cache but this didn't improve anything. I was able to turn all data connections off which actually prevents the force closing from happening, but that seriously diminishes how smart my smartphone is so staying like that is not an option
Now that I've stopped the messages from happening, I've noticed that my internal SD isn't being recognized anymore. Camera doesn't work, the file manager shows zero files and my gallery doesn't show any pictures either. Same for the MP3 player. Most apps are broken now, but some who don't require an internet connection still work.
At this point I'm thinking that I've probably corrupted my internal SD? I think my system partition is fine as I can still run apps and use the system as it should, but I can no longer create files, maps or do anything that requires my internal SD.
Are there any suggestions as to what I should do next? Formatting/factory resets are a last resort so I'm hoping anything can be done to recover my phone! Thanks in advance!

My PC is able to recognize the internal memory and that there is only 2,7GB of free space (which seems about right). However, when I enter the drive it appears empty. Windows isn't able to see anything. So in that regard Windows is acting the same as my phone.
As for platform.xml, I added <group gid=”media_rw” /> to “WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE“ and didn't do anything else besides that. It's really weird how this happened in the first place.
Any suggestions how to go from here? =)
edit;
I also removed the added permission but this didn't change a thing.

Should have probably tried this. Instead I became frustrated with the device and did a factory reset (which didn't solve a thing) so the problem is somewhere in the system which is causing the errors. Going to flash the latest stock rom in a bit and HOPEFULLY the phone will work again.

A factory reset will only wipe the /data part. Because you did something in /system that part is untouched. A reflash should fix it.

hi,
As you were "playing around " with your externalSD why you don't copy everything you have on it , format it and see if it works ..before restoring anything onto it
