I have a 5ghz wifi at home and tv connected via chromecast 2.0.
Sometimes i want to watch movie casting it from my op6t to tv but there are some major problems when i use either mxplayer or vlc.
Movies drop frames, sometimes audio stops, sometimes phone doesnt connect to chromecast.
I didnt have those issues on less powerfull phones like nexus 6p and huawei p20. I think it might be oneplus problem.

I just purchased a nexus player a few days ago and I'm already thinking about returning it. I was using it as a Chromecast last night to stream HBO go and ran into several errors where it would just stop playing. In fact, I had to plug in my Chromecast to finish the movie. I've done some research, and it seems like I'm not even close to the only person with playback issues. I also never had issues with HBO playback on my Roku 3. It seems odd that it has all of these issue's, especially since it has way more processing power than the roku or Chromecast. Anyone else have hese issues? My nexus player is connected via WiFi and I have 30mb down internet.
I don't use the casting feature very often but do you have the latest version of Android installed on your Nexus Player? I think there have been some improvements made to the casting performance through updates from Google.
Running into an odd issue where my Nexus Player (latest stable 5.1.1 release IIRC) will instantly lose the HDMI connection when I try playing a movie through Google Play Movies & TV. The weird thing is, the moment I press the back button to go back to the app's menu, it reconnects.
I'm using this HDMI switch (name printed here since I can't link to outside links): Kinivo 501BN Premium 5 port High speed HDMI switch with IR wireless remote and AC Power adapter - supports 3D, 1080p
Not sure if because I'm using this HDMI switch that it's causing the issue. I can watch YouTube and other stuff fine, and my Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV both play movies without an issue.
Having the Same Problem
I am having the same problem. Have you tried to bypass the switch?
It sounds to me like it's some sort of DRM which takes effect when the movie playback begins and is triggered because of the HDMI switch in between your Nexus Player and TV. A direct HDMI cable test is the only way to know for sure.
When I first got my switch and connected to my dvr I could not fast forward without the screen going black.
I plugged my nexus player straight into an hdmi port and the movies worked.

Yeah, that was my thought.
Sadly, though, I don't really have the space to give one of my three spots just to the Nexus when my other streaming devices work as intended, so I'll just have to ignore using that app until there's a fix down the road, if there's one.
With the Marshmallow 6.0 update my Nexus Player has started to be able to play TV from the HDHomerun Prime(CableCard) but it will play for about 2-3 minutes and then pause. It does it in both the Live Channels and HD home run app. I have tried with the Nexus Player on WiFi and with an rj45 USB otg adapter. Anyone have any ideas?
I get exactly the same issue
Same here. I have a homerun hd connect and both nexus player and adt-1. Both connected over wifi. Stutters and stops after 3- 5 min. Anyone have luck with the nvidia shield? I don't want to invest more money into Android TV if this problem is going to exist on a more expensive player too. My guess is its due to the uncompressed stream size. Not sure if its the WiFi or processor. Any way to compress and retain near hd quality with the HD home run settings?
Im in your same boat. I use the hdhomerun connect setup over wifi to my nexus player. Live channels and hdhomerun view both scramble and stutter every couple of minutes for a few seconds. Every so often after a while it will freeze.
I have the plus/extend, I am not sure how different the connect is. However this is how I stopped my stuttering:
Open HDhomerun View
Press play/pause 13 times to enter setting page
Check Mpeg2 Hardware Decoder
Check H.264/AVC Hardware Decoder
Set Transcoded to H.264/AVC (HDTC models) to disabled

As the title states, does the nvidia shield require faster internet than other devices to stream smoothly? I just got my shield, but have noticed that streaming content is not near as smooth as when I cast from my phone to my gen 1 chromecast. Both devices are plugged into the same TV, the same distance from the router. When I stream on the shield, especially using hulu or YouTube, the stream is a little choppy and quality dips. Many times, the audio does not seem to be synced with the video (I have adjusted the sync audio option in the menu). However, when I stream the same content on my phone and cast it to my chromecast, the quality is better and does not get choppy or laggy. Also, I don't notice the audio/video sync issue. My internet speed is low, but it doesn't make sense that the gen 1 chromecast streams smoothly on the same network.
Mine works fine. Almost exactly like my Chromecast. Maybe try a factory reset and start fresh?
Hi All,
I used to own a Pixel XL and still have the same Samsung tv. I used to be able to watch you Youtube on my phone and it didn't matter whether I was watching Youtube or Netflix or NowTv on my TV, I would be able to cast the video to my TV without any issues. This is without a chromecast and simply using whatever is built internally in the TV.
Now with my Oneplus 8 pro, I have to be on the Youtube app on the TV in order for the casting to work. So If I am watching Netflix and I want to cast my youtube video I can't simply cast it from the Youtube app on my phone, I must switch to the Youtube app on the TV first.
I have checked my TV and my phone is listed as an allowed device, I also tried using wifi direct on my phone and the TV is listed there, so it seems both are connected however there is an issue with casting from youtube on my phone.
Does this make sense? Does anyone else have this issue?
I have a Samsung smart TV from about 5yrs ago, and it works for me.
Have you tried to force restart the TV?(hold power until the Samsung logo shows up, the standby led will blink like mad)
Other than that try reinstalling the YouTube app on the tv,
Also try using the YouTube URL to link to your account ( I think it's YouTube.com/linktv).
