I just bought my AT&T Galaxy Tab and like it, but I can't figure out how to install any apps that didn't come from the Android Market. Can anybody help me out with this? My goal is to use my jailbroken iPhone 4 as a modem for the tab instead of buying another data plan.
I'm totally new to Android and know nothing about programming. So, if someone could walk me through this process step-by-step, I would be very greatful! Thanks!
This is my first attempt at an answer, so here goes -
The first step is to ensure that applications from unknown sources are allowed. Go to Settings (Menu key from Home screen) and then select 'Applications' and ensure that the 'Allow install of non-Market applications' is ticked.
From there it should just be a matter of downloading an app you have found (on a reputable website) via your browser.
Find the file, usually in the 'download' or 'downloads' directory using the stock 'My files' (or any other file manager you may have installed from the market).
Select the file and you should be able to install it from the menu that pops up.
Hope this helps
Att tabs don't have the above option avail. You'll have to root your device, there is a sticky thread in the tab dev section that will give you all the steps. You just download a special program on your pc, connect and press a single button. Takes about 5 min, after rooted there is an option to allow 3rd party apps within the same pc program. Once you've downloaded the program it'll make more sense.
If the app doesn't require the tab to be rooted then you could just either get the apk to the tab by emailing it to yourself or whatever method or install Android-sdk and use "adb install packagename.apk".
As for using iPhone as modem, searc for "wpa_supplicant" in General forum, you will see tons of answers. I dunno if it will work w iPhone but I use the tab with Nokia and it works.
Another question
Okay. I'm still kind of new to the forums as well. Can you tell me where the "sticky tab" thing is? Sorry to be such a pain, but I'm still trying to figure this stuff out. I think I'll be able to figure a lot of it out once I can get it to let me install the 3rd party apps.
Wonder why AT&T blocked that option? I thought that was the whole point of Android- to allow everyone to modify it as they wished? I'm sure it's so you'll have to buy a data package from them. As bad as I hate to say it, it was a LOT easier to jailbrake my phone than it is my Tab.

Install the app on your pc. First use option 1 and Root your Tab. Second choose option 4 (Allow Non Market Apps) and your done. You can test it by either trying to install an app from a link off a website (such as here) or directly from your SD card. Both will now work just fine. I also am running an AT&T Tab and this worked fine for me.
You can just put your iphone sim card in your tab and get 3g data. If you want voice capability too, you will have to flash a rom that has a phone dialer. Roto JME thread is a good place to start learning this business.

I tried rooting it this way, but it won't work. SuperOneClick gets to a point and says "waiting for device" and it just sits there. I've tried having the Tab in USB Debugging mode and out of that mode, but it makes no difference. At this point, I'm about willing to let you remote in to my laptop via TeamViewer and see if you can make it work. lol I'll keep digging through here and see what I can come up with.
How long did you wait while it said "waiting for device"

If you have not installed the usb driver for the tab using either android-sdk included driver or installing Skies, I don't think SuperOneClick will detect the tab.
You could try the Sideload Wonder Machine.

Quattr0 is correct. The issue is not with the app but with the drivers. You need to install the usb drivers to allow for a successful connection.

That may be the problem. My PC doesn't seem to recognize my Tab, no matter if I try it in Windows or Ubuntu. Where do I get the drivers or Skies software? I've tried to find it in numerous places, but I'm not finding any for the AT&T Tab.
Also tried taking the SIM card out of my Mercury USB modem and installing in the Tab so I;d have totally unlimited data, but it wouldn't work. Haven't tried the one out of my iPhone 4 yet.
There's a link for the drivers on the superoneclick post, if you don't see it just goto the samsung site
Just curious if anyone is willing to tackle this little gagdet. It needs some fine tuning and possibly a voodoo sound app would be awesome. It lacks the loudness like most android phones.
It looks interesting, but I would not personally buy it. It does not have enough features for me to use it over my phone.

Well I purchased one and with the help of the other thread about the apk i was able to sync to my epic with all features including the calls/missed calls and acuweather. This was with the corded headset. I have no real reason to get the wireless. The only real problem that i have right now is the sound level of the player. Its very frustrating to have to use a program to up the db level in every song i put on it. It running some kind of android platform so someone has to have some ideas.
Well, it looks like someone has listened... I didn't see a thread anywhere else, so I'll post it here, some one has rooted the motoactv. the story, along with a link to a how to is available, just google it. I was gonna post a link, but I can't.
The Motoactv runs gingerbread. CWM has gained root on it and installed Google apps. It has a decent chip and ram for a small device. The bootloader isn't locked. More and more smart watches and wearable computers will be coming out. I'd like to see a custom launcher for this size screen as QCIF+ ain't exactly great for a lot of launchers. A custom rom that remapped the hardware buttons would be nice as well.

Hi People
I just rooted the MotoACTV with the tutorial provided by Wade, the guy that rooted the watch. But I am having problems installing the ggole apps on it. The guide does not explain very well how to install the gogle apps. I managed to install several apk via adb commands and they work ok. But I am missing the market and every default google ape. Can someone explain how to do this? I already downloaded google apps zip file from cynogen web page.

There are libraries in the unzipped file that need to be installed with the adb push command to get maps to work. The market needs a bunch of crap to work. You should push all the apk (except car home if you don't want it) once you have those over, restart and you download the rest of the apps from market.

This sounds intriguing can you run RunKeeper on the rooted device. I have the motoactv and love it for running but RunKeeper in my opinion is the best running app. Im anxious to hear more about this.
Thanks Dragon, but one more question before I keep trying this market stuff. Do I do the adb push command to the same exact directories as the zip has. Like for example: the zip file that I downloaded was for CM7 and it includes a lot more directories than simply the app directory. Do I have to push every single directory the zip has and create the ones that are missing within the watch. Can you please explain more in detail if possible. Thanks again for the help as this is the only thing I am missing from this "the market".

So, once unzipped you will see "META-INF" and "system" folders.
Inside "system" you will see:
app
etc
framework
lib
inside "app" you will see:
*CarHomeGoogle.apk
*FOTAKill.apk
GenieWidget.apk
Google Maps 5.12.0.apk
GoogleBackupTransport.apk
GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
GoogleFeedback.apk
GooglePartnerSetup.apk
GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
*LatinImeTutorial.apk
MarketUpdater.apk
MediaUploader.apk
NetworkLocation.apk
OneTimeInitializer.apk
*Talk.apk
Vending.apk
(*not really needed on MotoACTV but won't hurt to install)
I am doing this from a Mac using terminal, it has been a richard year since I have used CLI with windows but for Linux the commands will be the same ("dragon$" is just my terminal prompt).
dragon$ adb push ~/Desktop/gapps/system/app/Vending.apk /system/app
dragon$ adb push ~/Desktop/gapps/system/etc/permissions/features.xml /system/etc/permissions/
So, you see I have pushed the files to the corresponding directories that the files are found in the unzipped folders.
I cannot remember if adb push defaults to parent owner and permissions but if not you will have to change them to root/root and RW-R--R--
I followed CMW's guide to root mine, too.

A full custom would be great (but not needed for remapping hardware keys); Motorola's UI is really quite nice for the screen size, but won't show custom apps. Instead of the fake Honeycomb one, I prefer to use Zeam (with the launcher and grid set to 3x3 icons) -- I just think it works much better, without overlapping icons and so on.
To get a shortcut to the wifi access point settings in zeam, press and hold in a blank area, and go to "add", then "shortcuts", then "settings", then "settings" again. This "settings" is the hidden wifi one.
I also remapped "Start" to menu fairly easily by modifying they G2-keypad.kl file under keylayout; nosit1 was able to do the same with music to home. The people in #motoactv on freenode.net are very helpful, including CMW.
More information on that:
/system/usr/keylayout/G2-keypad.kl
Change this line:
key 220 FITNESS WAKE_DROPPED
to this:
key 220 MENU WAKE_DROPPED
On a separate note, you'll want to backup your userdata partition, too. Otherwise, it can get corrupted and make the file loop at the motorola logo:
dd if=/dev/block/userdata of=/sdcard/userdata.img bs=1024
adb pull /sdcard/userdata.img userdata.img
Even when restoring that, there are a ton of force closes from com.motorola.gault.activity; you have to get past them to a custom launcher to factory reset.
@dragon_76
Does anything need to be done with the META_INF folder? I'm attempting to get Market working on my Motoactv but I'm still getting a Google Services Framework force close. I pushed over the gapps from CM6 (the ones under HDPI). Not sure if those were the right ones.
I think I need to factory reset and start over from the beginning. :/

No, that folder is for recovery mode installers.
Amazon app store works perfectly if you can't get Market to work. It takes a fair amount of trial and error with apps to find ones that are functional.
I can't recommend enough installing grafitti pro. I have it from Amazon FAOTD.
I have superuser.apk installed and I had to push my preferences from /data/data/ on my phone to my watch so as to autorespond "yes" to root requests and no notifications because the UI is a fixed size window.
After doing that I installed button saviour and my purchased key for the pro features to have only home and menu onscreen. (Button saviour needs root permission).
I use golauncher ex with 3x3 home screen and the notification bar hidden. I wish I could remove the dock but oh well.
Android is going into more types of devices, I wish Google would push scalable graphics. I am however very impressed with the amount of apps that work usably on a QCIF+ screen (Netflix!)
I also like the main launcher and if I could access an app like AltDrawer from it I would not have another home replacement installed. I will tear apart Launcher2.apk soon and see if there is a way to customize it.

Okay so last night I attempted to root my motoactv but my adb for some reason say it cannot load the root.img, I had the same problem where it's couldn't load the recovery.img for my photon when attempting to apply CWM or twerp recovery. Fastboot devices definitely sees both my devices (no I didn't do them are same time, and the files needed are in the same file location as instructed) and I can even Fastboot reboot and have that work. Any ideas or suggestions?? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, wasn't sure about the META-INF folder. Going to try installing button saviour. How did you "push" preferences from your phone to the watch? I have root/su on my Xperia Play so I should have the files there to push?
Did you personally get the Google Apps working?
EDIT: Everything is forceclosing on me. :/ Installed the Stock Browser from my XP but that's forceclosing as well. Attempted to change the permissions of the applications but either it didn't work or it didn't help.
I couldn't figure out how to push preferences, but I was able to tell Superuser to allow all apps after remapping Start to Menu, then just doing Superuser > Menu > preferences. You could always do this to get Superuser working, get Button Savior working, and then revert it back.
(I made a step by step on Pastebin, but if you use Oneroot, it might do all this for you: http://pastebin.com/AZRemesV )

Thanks a lot. Just did a factory reset, figure I'll start from scratch. Did you get the Google Apps working after Superuser was configured? What Browser are you using? (Dolphin was forceclosing for me every time I went to type.)
EDIT: Got Superuser working, did the keyboard hack to make Start=Menu. Anybody know what button Music is mapped to in the configuration?
Going to fiddle around some more w/ Google Apps. Anybody have a walkthrough of installing the apps? IE Which ones you must do, don't have to do and what to do to get it working.
EDIT: It was WAKEkey 378. It was set to "MEDIA" so I changed it to "HOME". Works perfectly!
Hanging at the Red Moto Logo
Followed the instructions and had it working rooted, etc. Was going to change out the launcher. And obviously did something wrong. Now it just just hangs at the Red Moto logo. Can get it to power off and can still get it to the fastboot mode. Have tried reflashing the system and userdata, wiping the user data, etc. Any suggestion on what to try next?

We have been working on this for a while. We are planning on working on a thread for this.
Currently I have Spotify and Sportstrack Pro running well. I'll start to compile a list of working applications.
If you're stuck in a boot loop, you'll need the userdata partition image. I'll edit my post with it once I'm on my computer.

As the title says I have an xperia play but the wifi isnt working. Ive done a factory reset, used pc companion to reinstall the software and even installed a custom kernel and rom but it wont even turn on the wifi thus I cant search for a router.
Is there a way I can at least download the apps i want such as
fpse
screen filter
various games
themes
ect
even with the broken wifi on my phone.
Ive had a search online and Im either wording my search wrong or its not possible to do what I want.
Also any advice a possible fix for the wifi would be great but Im assuming that its the hardware thats broke.
With usb cable, you may download app and install with adb or any pc companion software
You don't have warranty anymore?
Well, you can download the apk of the app and then copy it to your phone. Then just install it, shouldn't be too difficult.
Only problem could be, if you don't have any file explorer on your phone
Google the app you want , download it in your desktop and transfer to your phone. Install it via file manager
Sideloading, How I do it.
I haven't seen anyone mention this yet.
You need to first go into your phone settings and enable Unknown Sources found in the Security tab. Unknown sources will enable you to install apps without the Play Store.
Then connect your phone to your PC with your USB cable and select either Storage Mode or USB Mount, depending on your phone it will be labeled differently.
Your phone's folders will appear on your computer, simply drag the .apk file into your phone to transfer. Once the transfer is complete, remove the USB cable or unmount the phone.
Finally, use any file browser on your phone to find the .apk you transferred and click it. Your launcher should automatically ask you if you want to install the .apk
Note: App files are taged as .apk so any app you download should be something like Facebook.apk. I personally just do a general search for whatever I want and then include "apk" in the search field. You will find 100+ websites where you can download various apps, but the trick is, you usually have to do your research on the Play Store first to find out what the latest version number of the app is because there are mostly outdated versions floating around the internet.
I guess the best part about side loading is that the Google Play Store can't filter what you install. So apps that were previously not compatible could possibly run on your device no problem. Like Netflix used to be incompatible officially with my phone but I sideloaded it and it worked fine. Netflix finally released official support but the fact is I got it before everyone else.
as they said, you should have a pc and it have the apk file to download it to phone
Since root has been obtained and an alternative launcher can be installed, as has been mentioned there is really no need to stay on 5.0.0 anymore. I would recommend updating to 5.0.1. However, this procedure can still be applied to 5.0.1 and hopefully it'll prevent any future updates. (As of writing it 5.0.1 is the latest).
The steps are basically as follows:
Enable ADB by going to Settings> Device Options. Keep tapping on the Serial Number field until the Developer options field appears.
Under Developer options Enable ADB
Hook the Fire up to your computer and do the following commands:
adb shell pm hide com.amazon.otaverifier
adb shell pm hide com.amazon.device.software.ota
adb shell pm hide com.amazon.settings.systemupdates
I don't know which of three is the magic one, But you can not longer go to device options > system update. It also never appears to pull down the update in the background.
Rivethread23 - good work and many thanks for this
I know that you have the original Fire 7 with no system update but I wanted to see if any of your commands will work on 5.01. My device is on 5.01 has been in aeroplane mode since purchase, I have been using OTG Ethernet for connectivity and I have not signed into Amazon. Google Play is installed - basically a standalone device on 5.01 with no association with Amazon.
After running the commands and the ADB shell gave a [True State] after each command. Rebooted the device:
System Updates now gives the following error message: [The requested action is not permitted. Check Parental controls settings and try again]. As my device is not associated with Amazon parental controls have not been configured - so I browsed to a few proxy sites and such to confirm no filtering on web browsing etc
I've tried various launchers from Play store and every time the default Fire Launcher kicks back in again.
SD Card issue is still there.
When you tried the System Update button did you get the same error message as me? If so, I wonder if the Adb Shell command to disable OTA works on 5.01 as well?
Update 1: [adb shell pm hide com.amazon.firelauncher] disables the default Amazon launcher. I picked another launcher at random from Google Play. Halo installed and it worked with the default launcher hidden, however using the minimise middle button on the device forces the Parental Control Popup to appear.
So it is possible to hide the default launcher on 5.01 using ADB but it is causing issues. We need a better work around.
Unfortunately this only blocks the update from occurring. I ran into another issue on the 5.0.0 tablet in that I can't get Google play store working. It just says cannot connect. So I don't know if one of the above things broke it. It was getting late so I went to bed. I'll keep plugging at it and see what I can do.
I might finally take both of mine out of the box today, can more people confirm this is working? @Rivethread23, did you get the play store sorted out?
Couldn't wait, dove in. On an out-of-box Fire, running 5.0.0, these do in-fact keep the OTA updates from firing. I have been online, installing apps and customizing the tablet for over an hour with many reboots, no prompts or attempts of an update.
With this, and ads disabled, and the play store turned on we have a usable tablet!
F-Droid works as well, just sideload their APK to get access to lots of software:
https://f-droid.org/repo/org.fdroid.fdroid_96150.apk
Still stuck on Play Store in 5.0.0 *not working* for now.....same problem as OP
I can confirm that the Google Play Services, Login Services, and Framework are (at least partly) working, even though the Play Store is not. I sideloaded Gmail, and it automatically had my info, and downloaded my email.
Wait, I'm confused. In 1 post you say play store is on and working, then you're saying it's not...
Aside from the play store, it sounds like everything else is working fine! Is that correct. I'm asking because I'm thinking about buying a 2nd one of these, only if I can have it working 100% the way I have it now with my tablet, just with the ability to use a different launcher.
With the original 5.0.0 firmware, if you prevented the OTA update to 5.0.1:
+Can change launcher
+Can write to SD from apps
-Can't get Play Store to work (so far, but can manually side-load GApps (Gmail, Hangouts, etc))
In the other thread, people that have gone to 5.0.1:
-Locked to amazon Launcher when using HOME button
-Manual SD writing is disabled
+Google Play Store can be installed and 90% of the GApps work
--------
The key to take away is that if you get another one, and you do the fix in this thread to prevent OTA updates, you can simply wait til everyone gets things fixed and figured out. You can safely use it and not worry about getting pushed to a firmware that might be even more locked down.
On the other hand, if you're not worried about OTA updates breaking stuff, and want a working store, go to 5.0.1 and follow SD_Shadow's instructions in his thread on that subject.
Hopefully root comes soon and we can fix all these problems properly, but until then it's kinda hit and miss depending on what version you got.
Hope that helps.
Thanks Tufkal was going to post something along those lines but you beat me to it.
Essentially you can prevent updates from further locking down the tablet. Who knows what future updates bring? I'll wait and update as thing warrant.
I have two one on 5.0.0 and another on 5.0.1. While I like being able to use the launcher of my choosing on 5.0.0, the working google store and updated amazon store and apps have me using the 5.0.1 one. I am keeping the other on 5.0.0 until development starts then I'll try my hand at making a ROM.
Your device that is on 5.0.0 Firmware have you signed into Amazon and associated your device? Or is it standalone like mine?
Was on Amazon for a day. Factory reset it and am using it sans Amazon. Mostly using the 5.0.1 one myself.
Yep same here. 5.01 with no amazon sign in.
I've been playing around with the launcher again. Tried changing the hardcoded buttons and also with ADB Shell am force-stop pm disable on com.amazon.firelauncher to stop dependent services, ie hard buttons. All to no avail.
root definitely needed for this
I figured out a way to access some hidden functions within the OS last night. Seeing where this leads after work today Apparently I can cast the screen and access the home function disabled in 5.0.1. Problem is the home function doesn't override the hard coding.
Most interesting is something called Prod and Devo Switch that give "Access Denied" when I try to activate it. Hmmmm........
Here's what I have discovered. It's easier done on 5.0.0 but can be done on 5.0.1. You'll need another launcher like Nova installed. Installed "Anycut" from the google store. It'll let you put a shortcut on the desktop for any "activity". There are alot of items there not normally accessible. You can cast to a Chromcast for example (it works). The reason you need another launcher is the Amazon launcher doesn't support shortcuts I guess as they don't appear. They appear on Nova's desktop when created.
Most interesting is a shortcut called "Prod and Devo Switch" which if you look at the info refers to the "Amazon Device Settings" app.. ( com.amazon.device.settings?). It's separate from the user settings. If you try to access it it will say "Access Denied" on 5.0.1. Or "Permission denied" on 5.0.0. Makes me wonder if what needs to happen the app needs some additional permissions to be run. I was looking through the list of permissions via ADB and there are a number of permission groups that are android.xxxxx. However there are only a few permission groups that are amazon.xxxxx one of which is amazon.permission-group.settings. Listing the settings in the group shows a large list. Maybe using ADB pm grant com.amazon.device.settings the correct permissions could unlock this? Thoughts?
Here's what I got from a logcat when I click on the shortcut in novalauncher:
I/ActivityManager( 454): START u0 {act=android.intent.action.VIEW flg=0x1000000

Tried granting that specific permission to Nova launcher or the Fire launcher but both do the same thing:
com.amazon.firelauncher com.amazon.dcp.permission.DISPLAY_DEBUG_UI <
Operation not allowed: java.lang.SecurityException: Package com.amazon.firelaunc
her has not requested permission com.amazon.dcp.permission.DISPLAY_DEBUG_UI
Maybe someone with more knowledge than I create a program with that permission that calls the intent in question?
Again good work on this
I picked up another new device yesterday morning. OTA updates disabled, Fire OS 5.0, no association to Amazon and connectivity via WiFi. Just like you I got Gmail, YouTube and other Google associated apps to work with the exception of the Play store. It finally let me sign in but comes up every time with the [Connection Retry] error.
I followed your instructions and installed AnyCut - and I have been playing around as I thought it might be possible by using shortcuts to load my Google account onto the device.
Shortcut [Add an account] - and the "Couldn't sign in - google server error" came back so not working for now.
Shortcut [Testing] - allows us to pull up more info on the Fire 7 with the 4 below options
Tablet Information - not working
Battery Information - working
Usage Statistics - working
WiFi Information - working
Shortcut [IP Settings] - gives us advanced WiFi options
A lot of the options try to load or there is a visible presence of starting to load and you can clearly see the device stopping them from loading. Basically we are trying to load Android Apps that are locked down by Fire OS which sits on top of Android.
Other apps with Permission Denied
[Log Manager]
[Crash Manager]
[Metrics Debug UI]
Looks like Amazon do not want us to have access to their inbuilt log files on their device
As I do not have access to Google store I have been using F-Droid for my apps. I have installed APK Extractor and it lists all the current APK's on the Fire 7. What is interesting about this is that there are APK's that where not findable using [AnyCut] but show up in APK Extractor.
Will update more in a bit
Here's an interesting note..... I'm on 5.0.0 and trying to get the Play Store working (I believe that 5.0.0 w/ Play Store is a better avenue to attack than trying to fix the launcher in 5.0.1)
For testing reasons I'm on an older version of the Play Store where the search icon is visible.
On the play store screen where it says no connection with the retry button, I hit the search icon and start typing "clas" It autofilled in clash of clans. Then i did "hang" and I see hangouts dialer. The play store app is communicating it would seem.....

I'm trying all kinds, the one i was using for that test I got here:
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?res...4&authkey=!AIVXLFXAOWDeM0Q&ithint=folder,.apk
I'm with you I tried some work arounds on the 5.0.1 tablet but if we can get the play store working on 5.0.0 it seems to offer more opportunities.
Yep same here - it makes more sense to get Play store to work.
I think I might know what the issue is causing and I believe it is down to the Google Service Framework (GSF) on 5.0 not installing correctly and causing the sync issue when trying to connect. I installed [Device ID] app on 5.0 and there is no serial listed for GSF at all - on my 5.1 tablet GSF would load up on the screen and you could view settings but on 5.0 it does not.
When trying to open the Google Play some I found the following error in Logcat [.onClick: b/5160617: Reinitialize account] this relates to the GSF serial not being present. Logs also show permissions and api errors as well. The only
Looking into a GSF workaround if possible. It might be on the wrong track but I am going to see what else I can find out.
I thought I had found a back door into Google signin. Using an App calling [Applications Info] which I used to pull up the GoogleServiceFframework apk. From there I started to play around with the launch options for the applicable services.
Selecting launch on [Legal Services] takes you to Google Sign In - keyboard was not working for this so I had to adb shell input text of my gmail & password. Unfortunately the same old Google error was appearing even after I cleared the cache and re-installed Gapps.
The last screengrab shows that the System Updates on installed Google Service Framework is corrupt and not working properly. I have also launched other Gapps dependent activities from the services in [App Info] and again they either fail to load of abundance of errors. So installation issues for all of the Gapps in one way or another on Fire 5.0
Obviously there is a difference between the 5.0 Rom + 5.01 Rom that is stopping Gapps from working. Due to the amount of errors in Logcat and in Application Info and dependent services not working. My gut is saying that when we have root on 5.0 we have a better chance of getting Gapps working as we will have the ability to play around with not only System files but System commands too.
If anyone has any ideas or what else we could try please chip in.

Hook the Fire up to your computer and do the following commands:
adb shell pm hide com.amazon.otaverifier
adb shell pm hide com.amazon.device.software.ota
adb shell pm hide com.amazon.settings.systemupdates

running those commands will prevent any future update?
Right now I have 5.0.1 and I'm happy with it, I would like to avoid any bad surprises.

yes updates would be blocked until you run the unhide commands.

so my friend found a samsung galaxy express 3 from at & t and wanted me to set it up for him. so he gave it to me, first thing i did was factory reset it in recovery mode. Then problems started. I dont have the previous owners account so i need to bypass the google verification. But i have no idea how. ive tried the side sync method, the open with option never showed up. this phone doesn't have usb hosting so i cant use an otg cable. i tried the real term method, just an error when i put the codes. i tried the no computer methods, i can get into ultra power saving mode, but thats it. with the other no computer methods it comes down to restarting it, and when it comes back on theirs camera access but for me when i restart it its locked, but no camera or phone access. ive tried every option i could find and even tried installing a stock ROM, succeeded with the stock rom installation thinking it would remove the google verification but still didn't. does anybody have any ideas? i cant enable USB debugging. so i dont think i can root it and install a custom rom and disable it. at least i think. im new to this stuff so if anybody has suggestions for me then that would be great. Thank you in advance
Google frp bypass. Methods have changed, due to patching. You need to research the most current method. I used Rootjunky's method back in the fall of 2016. Worked like a charm. Consisted of a phony call through an emulator, triggered a request for contact storage, led to browser opening playstore for a vcard app. Download frp bypass app instead, viola!! Imho, too much work for that phone.
I managed to get into chrome. Now what?
So with a bunch of messing around I managed to get into chrome through the emergency call but I'm in chrome. Which is how most methods work is through chrome. U install an app then run it and ur able to bypass it pretty much. But I can't install any apks. When I download a file it ask if I wanna download it, then starts it but never prompts me when it's done so I can't open it and install it. If I redowbload the same file it lets me look at the downloaded files and I can even get to the SD card. But if I tap on anything that's not a folder it kicks me back to the browser. So how could I get on the Samsung store to get es file explorer or install apks? Any help would be great thanks
I've had success setting up a samsung account installing es file explorer, then putting the app needed on sd card or Bluetooth it via a settings app. Rootjunky has the apks. But yes the 911 loophole is there if you don't have a sim to do a realterm dialer method
