Unable to View Screenshots on PC - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

I've noticed that I'm able to open images I've downloaded on my OnePlus 6T McLaren running OOS 9.0.11 using Windows Photo Viewer on Windows 10, however, I am unable to open any screenshots I've taken with this device using this, my preferred, Windows program. When I attempt to do so, I am greeted with the attached error message, which is inaccurate. I am, however, able to open all screenshots using Microsoft Photos, Snip & Sketch, Paint 3D, and even MS Paint. After scouring XDA and other locations I have yet to figure out the reason for this. I'm assuming it has to do with this device's encryption, and have been debating whether or not to decrypt it, but I'm not entirely sure if this is the reason. Does anyone happen to know what could be causing this? I have also unlocked my bootloader and rooted my device. Thank you in advance

This is probably a problem with your computer and not your phone.

I considered this as a possibility and checked using another machine. Same issue. Have you or anyone else been able to successfully view a screenshot captured on this device using Windows Photo Viewer? As I stated, this is only happening with screenshots, not downloaded images, and only with Windows Photo Viewer? Thanks again

I honestly don't know if I've tried, I don't really look at pictures on my computer. I can only recall opening a screenshot from this device in paint once to crop it.

Yeah, I can do that, just can't use the program I want to view screenshots on the computer. Thanks for getting back to me again

I also see this message (I'm on Windows 7 pro, 64 bit) in Windows picture viewer. It's annoying. I'm not sure why the encoding of the .jpg files by the phone is nonstandard/incompatible with windows viewer. Hopefully OP will fix the issue in how they save the files.

Yeah, it's really annoying to me as well. Thanks for the confirmation. It's weird that this issue only happens when opening screenshots taken with this device with Windows Photo Viewer. Every other Windows program I've tried opens them with no problem.

This app is outdated and has been officially removed from windows 10 and replaced by Photo. So there's is probably no more development and difficulties to read some files is not really a surprise

But I like it. I'm sure I could find a third party program instead since I don't really care much for Photos. It's just strange that downloaded images open fine but screenshots don't. That's what made me think that it had something to do with the device's encrypted file system. If not, I guess it doesn't matter much, I just like the program I've always used. Thanks for your response.

It can't come from encryption BTW as it's readable by other programs. An encryption issue would lead to unreadable phone storage by the computer

Yeah. I've been getting the same thing. Like Frankenscript said, it must be something with how the screenshot .jpg is encoded that WPV can't read properly. Doesn't seem to be in issue with pictures taken with the camera. I usually just end up opening the image in a photo editing program, and doing a "Save As...". I keep the same filename & overwrite the original. Then the WPV is able to open it.
I just tested some other things and it looks like if I edit the photo using a gallery app on the phone before transferring to my computer, WPV is able to open it properly. Definitely a hassle but it is what it is at this point. Highly doubt 1+ will give this much attention since it seems more of an issue with WPV. And it's unlikely that is ever going to get updated.

It's certainly the 'extended screenshot' feature that leads to a specific jpg format.
On the same idea those screenshots are blurred when shared with MMS of some other messaging apps

Looks like you're right. It worked when I took an extended, well very extended, screenshot, but of course it still doesn't work with a regular screen. I just need to figure out how to take an extended screenshot of only the screen, or just slightly more.

I'll have to look into how to take an extended screen shot. Didn't know there was such a thing!
Nonetheless, this is a OnePlus bug, plain and simple. I had no problems with screen shots viewing when taken on the 3T; they changed their encoding in a way that Windows7's viewer barfs on. Windows 7 is still a popular OS (as of last month, still more than 39% of all personal computers...) and OP should adjust their encoding slightly to maintain support.
What's the best way to file a bug report?

I'm also running 9.0.11, unlocked, rooted. I don't have any problems, Linux or Windows (10).

You're using the Photos program to open the image. It's the Windows Photos Viewer program that is the issue.

Yeah I missed that part... I use Linux all the time, I'm really not that familiar with Windows, the only reason I have it is for Steam. After a quick search it appears Photo Viewer was actually removed from Windows 10 (as Striatum_bdr already pointed out), and the reason I don't have it. All I knew was the screenshots opened, and were able to be edited in everything that was installed by default in the OS.

Yeah, it's the Windows 7 Photo Viewer that can't open the oddly encoded jpgs OP creates from screenshots.

Yeah, I use Winaero Tweaker to enable Windows Photo Viewer to be used as the default photo viewer in Windows 10. Oh well, guess it can't be solved by conventional means.

this was also happening to me on my oneplus 3T running Pie, when i would go to my dropbox folder on the PC to open a screenshot i would get the exact same error. I thought i was going crazy trying everything i could!
This wasnt happening on the previous build though it now makes sense why this error is coming up.

[APP] StegDroid Alpha v 0.75

Hi guys/gals
I'm working on this app for my final year dissertation. It performs Echo Steganography on wave files. My app uses this to encode short text messages in an audio file, then share it. I've just got the Steg side of things working, so I wanted to get some early feedback on whether it works for other people (and if it's awfully slow - it uses a lot of Fourier Transforms etc...).
This is very early days, so the app isn't anything like ready for primetime yet, but the basics are in place. I'd really appreciate it if you could download it and:
* Have a go at embedding some text in a recording and seeing if it correctly extracts it again.
* Run the tests available in the menu
* Email me one of your recordings (tfmw2 [at] cam [dot] ac [dot] uk) to see if I can extract the data on my phone.
* Supports encryption with a shared key
* Transcodes audio files to ogg format for sharing
Updates (0.75)
* Added Multicasting of messages to contact groups
* Fixed bug with sharing files in paranoid mode
* Better memory management, should work more reliably with longer messages
* Reduced error rate (less garbled messages)
* Reduced file size by 33%
* Other bug fixes
Any problems let me know!

I'm not sure what this does =\
The app records a file from the microphone and embeds a secret message into it. You can send that file to someone, and if they've got the same app they can extract the secret message from the audio file. Anyone listening to the audio file wouldn't be able to tell that it's got a message hidden in it, as the difference is hard to distinguish with the human ear.
I've uploaded a new version, it's a bit more stable and a bit easier to use!
Interesting, maybe we can team up this will be an interesting feature for my project
Works pretty well, cool idea too!
I was able to make it fail though by using a long jumble of letters (I screenshotted before and after to compare) but it still only got about 5 wrong (little diamond with a ? In the middle).
Nice work!
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Thanks Meltus
Could you let me know the length of the string. Were the wrong characters at the end or distributed throughout? What kind of audio input were you testing with (voice message, background noise, music etc.)?
Update
Now supports basic crypto. Run tests from the menu before you start to check the crypto test passes (if it doesn't, let me know!).

Length of the string was about 30 characters, the wrong characters were distributed and were just regular letters.
As for the audio it was just me tapping on the mic for about 20 secs.
I've been doing more tests too and it only seems to occur when you have a few repeating characters. I typed out the keyboard lines and it got it correct, until i started repeating every other character a few times, then it started to get a few wrong.

That's strange! The embedding works bit-by-bit, rather than byte-by-byte, so it's very strange that repeated chars should cause an issue. I'll look into it though. Did you try the same test with continuous sound, such as music? I'll see if I can replicate it here. What hardware/android version are you using?
Are you using a set algorithm to code messages and decode them? Or does it shift from how long the coded message is to the non-coded message? This is an interesting app that could serve a lot of uses, excellent idea! Hopefully this is seen all the way through to "perfection", its a keeper.
I will be watching this blog closely and will test the app. Cant wait until its totally complete.

I'm using a Nexus One with 2.3.
I didn't try it with other types of sound so it's not the most accurate of tests, but i'll have another go today.
I've had some issues with occasional chars being wrong, I may put in some kind of CRC, but I don't think it's that serious. It may have something to do with various microphones and their sensitivity.
In other news, now upgraded to version 0.4, which converts encoded files to ogg format, and can extract messages from ogg files too! (would be a bit silly if it didn't). Files are ~90% smaller as a result!
I could see an RDS type implementation or advertising uses that would let you encode whatever data you wanted in the audio if the mobile app did something like SoundHound where you could have it listen for the message. If you could create a background app that listened for any messages and alerted when heard, without totally draining the battery, I could see implementations with nielsen ratings showing accurately what you saw and when.

I believe this tech (or at least, steganography in general) is already used to watermark copyrighted material, in some cases uniquely. Authorities can then look at an illegally shared file and trace its origin or something like that. Certainly it's possible.
Just updated the version on the market, now integrates much better with email apps/file managers. Let me know if you can't launch StegDroid from your favourite app!
Make sure that your app stays your app. Many universities are after students' apps.

New video chat/conference software

I ported my ReelPortal video conference to Android recently. It's reported to be working on the Viewsonic G Tablet with certain ROMs. I believe it works on the Archos 70/101, but I don't know how well, since the G Tablet has the Tegra-2 dual-core CPU and the Archos don't.
Anyhow, my app is published on AppLibs, or you can get it from the G Tablet thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908613
Please provide feedback if you try it. Thanks.
Beware of firmware 2.1.3 (not sure if 2.1.4 is any better):
Kashban: I got word from one of my friends owning an Archos 101 (non rooted, latest firmware 2.1.3), that ReelPortal is very buggy and slow on it. I have no problems on UrukDroid based on FW 2.0.71 and still waiting for Uruk to move on to the new FW, so as soon as I migrated I will test again.
Thanks! I will try it out

Feedback
First of all: Nicely done.
I tested it between my HTC Desire, the Archos 101it and my Netbook running Win7 32bit using Firefox 3.6.x.
A few Things which may be improved from my Perspective:
Exit function:
Not prominent enough on Android: If you just chose to back out of the App, it's still running, including Video and Audio broadcast. This is good if you want to bring another App to front without breaking the Conference, but if you intend to disconnect, you have to longpress on the Screen, which isn't obvious at first. You may accidently broadcast on and on without knowing.
Proposal: If leaving the app by the back button, ask the user what to do: Exit Application or put it in the background with running video/audio or put it in the background with video/audio stopped and muted. If the App is in background and still sending, it should show this by an Icon in the status bar of Android. Don't know if that's a goal possible to achieve with Adobe Air. Otherwise you may be sending video / audio without knowing and giving away your privacy.
Regarding privacy: Is there a way to encrypt the Streams? If not, even with your own Server someone might spoof on the Connection (I know it's P2P, but nevertheless routed through internet relays).
Login screen:
Sometimes when writing into the Nickname / Room Fields a leading Space is added and the Strings are not accepted. Better strip any leading and trailing Spaces from the input Strings without bothering the User.
Terms of Service: Should be gone once I clicked "save" and changable by Options Menu.
Would be nice if the App stores my Nickname and the Room I used before
Moving Windows are fancy but not needed on the login Screen. I was more irritated by it.
The Conference Room:
Paused Video Stream of Participant: No indication whether the Connection has been lost or the Participant paused the Stream. Perhaps putting a Message on Screen for Paused Streams (and Muted voice) would lead to more Confidence in the Robustness of the Software and the Connection.
Size of Conference Room Items: On small Screens like my 3.7 inch one of the Desire the Chat Window Controls are too small. Everything else seems to be ok.
Video Stream Quality. How is the initial setting calculated? Is it depending on the current kBit/s or just an overall Default?
Anyhow, this is a good Piece of Software you developed here. I'm not familiar with other Solutions on Android like Fring or Skype, but it looks very promising given the Fact it runs on all Devices with Flash Capacity (even iPhones and iPads with the Packager from Adobe)
Best regards,
Kashban

If you press and hold on the main screen for 4 seconds, a pop up menu appears. It has the "Exit" and "Toggle Screen" buttons. The toggle screen suppose to toggle the screen between FullScreen and Normal (which is default to 800x480), but it doesn't work on Android because currently on Android, Normal equals FullScreen. I will look for other ways to get around it. Thanks for bringing it up.
For netbook, you can run it from a web browser at www.reelportal.com. Or you can install the AIR version via download link.
BTW, double-clicking on the main screen should also toggle the screen, but also not working on Android .

it needs to have Android 2.2, and Adobe AIR 2.5.1, otherwise it won't function even if you manage to install it, because the API is not there to access the hardware....also, if your device have 2 cameras, the current API only allow access to 1 camera (most likely the back one). Android 2.3 would allow access to multiple cameras.

Definitely! Actually, the original settings was at 640x480, but when some Samsung Galaxy Tab user reported the device was crawling at 1 frame every 5 secs, I figured the tablet cpu may not able to handle it, so I reduced it for now. But I do want to make it a user adjustable control. Same with the frame rate.

can you describe your setup details, like:
- are you testing between the 101T and another PC or something else
- is there lag with audio only test (video turned off)
- is there lag with video only test
- and at which end (tablet or PC) do you see the lag
- are you using P2P mode (default), or client/server mode
thanks.
New Version (1.0.1)
i just added a newer (experimental) version in the first post of the viewsonic thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908613
Changes:
- option to save nickname and room last used (you can clear it by set the fields to blank, then save).
- added new field to enter the Server ip address, in case you want to run your own server (if not set, it defaults to the last used server)
- hide that annoying red TOS box when you check it, and click Save.
- when you enable the webcam, you can set its resolution and frame rate.
the web client is running the new version also. feedback please.

Thank you for this information. I will try to fix this for you tonight. Most of these issues are only on specific devices that I do not own and that is why is gets hard to troubleshoot. If you don't mind, please message me your email that way I can have you test it before releasing it to the public.

Installed V1.0.4 Runs fine and accessed the 32gig usb thumb drive just fine.
In my opinion if you support .tiff and .raw you would have my full attention even with a no frills version. Do you think that is possible?

That is beyond my capabilities. I am using the code that google provides to decode pictures and unfortunately, raw and tiff processing is a whole new game. I may make the app open source at some point and hopefully better developers will show interest and add advanced functionality.
Pali,
On further testing V1.0.4 it would crash while viewing a folder of about 15 jpegs on the external SD card.
The crash is repeatable every time and happens randomly with different pictures.
They are between 1 and 5mb each. The screen goes black and wont exit out using home or back button for several long seconds. When I re-open the app the screen just is black again and twice would not exit at all and had to reboot machine.
attached alog
edit- The crashes happened while using the alternate portfolio view.......it may have something to do with thumbnail rendering because now it is not crashing, but the preview thumbs on the left side are just blank(gray)

Interesting. Are you using the market version or the one I emailed to you? Try the market version and see if it works any better. If it still crashes, I will send you a new version soon.

Try this one and tell me if it fixes it. Make sure you uninstall V1.0.4 to clear up any cache (there might be corrupted cache because of the constant version changes).
FotolioV1.0.5.apk
Uninstalled v.1.0.4 - rebooted - installed V1.0.5 - went to settings and cleared data-
Results were much better. It still crashes or FCs if I choose one thumbnail to the next very quickly, but thats not a normal thing to do. The Thumbs still grayed out only after a short use. Tried clearing data and force closing from tablet settings and still no thumbs preview. Rebooted and thumbs preview are back. After reboot another random FC while choosing a folder. Restarted the program and a black screen - had to hit home button twice to exit. From tablet settings force closed app and it then opened normally again.
2 Logs and pics of grayed out thumbs attached

This one is really puzzling me because your device is running out of memory and there seems to be some sort of memory leak. I tested v1.0.5 on my Xoom with a folder with 20 images of 21mp (~10-15 mb files) and it worked fine and the memory never became an issue.
Are the pictures in PNG or JPEG format? Any chance you can share these pictures so that I can try to reproduce this error on my side?
I'll keep trying to look for what could be happening but trying to look for memory leak (if there is any) might take a while.
Here is an update from the Xoom thread for those who are tracking this app in this post. This version attempts to fix the force close with empty USB Storage - can someone please try and confirm if the fix works?
------------------------------------------------------------------
I spent a good bit effort cleaning up this app and many new features are being implemented in parallel and I hope to release an exciting feature packed version soon. One of the features that I spent several days on was multi-touch zoom and I just couldn't get it right. After giving up, I decided on an alternate approach for multi-touch zoom that I think works very well and I hope you'll like it's simplicity and use. You can open any image in your favorite image viewer (I recommend the built in Gallery) by long pressing the image thumbnails. This will give you zoom ability without the feel of leaving the main application. Press back button and you'll be back to where you started
Please, please, please test this thoroughly and let me know if you get any issues. I have made the mistake of releasing new version too quickly to the market and introduced many force close issue. I appreciate everyone's support for this app - it has become much bigger than I originally anticipated with almost 1000 downloads as of this post.
Any most importantly, please show your support for this app by rating it the Android Market! Rating and your feedback is my only motivation to keep working on this application.
EDIT 2/27/12 - V1.0.5 BETA Update Fotolio 1.0.5 - BETA
-> Long press on thumbnails to allow multi-touch zoom gestures
-> Better memory management for large images
-> Cleaned up descriptions
-> Several new code changes for new features that will come soon
I need a few dedicated testers who are willing to test and provide detailed feedback (including logcats) on the next version. I am introducing two major features that have never been tested before and need your help trying to break the app
If interested, please PM me your email and what devices you have.
I had a little play very nice app, I am using a acer iconia a500,it crashed when changing portfolio views and left me with a black screen. What seemed to fix it for me was removing the '.' files that the Mac created when i made the folder of images. Has worked great ever since.
New beta is up for everyone to try - please let me know what you think. I added the section below in the main thread under Motorola Xoom.
EDIT 3/21/12 - V1.2 Beta Update FotolioV1.2-Beta.apk
-> Major rework all around the app
-> New scrolling view
-> Added muti Fotolio functionality with some eye candy!
-> Other things that you'll see when you play around
Please test and give me your feedback. I would like to get this on the market soon.

Zenfone 2 Bloatware (not bad at all)

Guys i have being playing around with the phone for 3 or 4 days. My first impression as every one was WTF 4562398562389476 Bloatware apps installed. And i did remove all of them or disabled them. (im using original rom). I have also removed all the GAAPS, cleaner and all that stuff from the phone.
But it crossed from my mind why not to check ASSUS apps.
Splendid: This aps gives you full control of the display. You can enable blue light filter, vivid color mod, you can control hue and saturation, the temperature of the image also. its a very complete app and its not bad at all.

SystemUpdate: There is not much to say there but with one click you can receive the OTA updates. Quick and easy (and works lol).
Themes: it does what it is. you can apply in a easy way new themes. it gives you the option too, you can share your creation with ASUS and they may include yours into this.
Weather: As it says the name this is an app that shows the weather from were you are its very complete and its stylish. also has a good looking widget.
MiniMovie This app is for making videos "presentations" from photos that you have on your phone. you can add text music. is easy its not bad at all. i do not use this kind of apps but i may stat using it . also when you finish editing you can share to whats up, or upload into youtube, etc.
Music: This app is the music players it has nothing special it does what is expected not bad at all. also has an option that you can connect to cloud storages to listen your music.
MyAsus Its an app that let you connect to asus and open tickets to them ask questions etc. also you can access zen forum. there is not much interesting here more than you can open support tickets to them. i did open asking for update 5.1.1 and it took like 2 days to reply but they did. Also they send you news like the IFA event form today.
Pc link: This application lets you mirror the screen from the phone into your windows desktop. its not bad at all. there you can controll all your phone, also take snapshot, make videos , etc. its not bad at all.
Photo Collage: This apps let you make Collage with taken photos, or downloaded ones. its easy and quick not bad at all. lots of options. you can modify the colage how is made. add text effects colors etc. when you save you can share through watsapp or any app.
Power Saver: This app lets you configure may aspects of battery consumptions. also let syou set battery modes .
FlashLight: This app turns on your led to use it as a flashlight also you can turn on the display for more light. SOS message and some other thinks . this app is not very good it does drains your battery if you turn off the LED and you left the app opened. so close the app when you stop using it. There is not need all this options we only want turn on the led to use the celphone as a flashlight.
FM RADIO: I have not tested due i did not connected a head phone yet. but it should be good.
Kids Mode: I have not used it but its good one. you can configure the phone to have only some apps that kids can use.
Asus Mobile Manager: I have mixed feelins with this app. it does make some short cuts to the ui or other apps. but what can you do there is. you can configure not to start apps when the celphone boots. also you can make applications not to send notifications. You can clean the memory from apps loaded. And go to the Battery saver app.
Audio Wizard Basically you can select music modes presets
Auto Start Manager: This app is shown inside Asus Mobile Manager. it lets you block apps to start when the celphone boots.
Camera: This is the camera app there are lots of review. it has tons of options its very good.
Asus Cover: This app lets you configure the Flip cover when its installed on the phone. i dont have one so there its not much to do here.
Email: Im very happy with this app i have connected to Outlook server and it works grate it has tons of options very complete. Probably it is not the best but its ok for most users.
Calendar: tis a calendar its very good also. i have synchronized to outlook sever works perfect tons of options to configure.
Regarding the ASUS IU. its great its fluid and you can tweak all aspects from the interface. you can modify fonts, effects, colors etc. it may be not as complet as nova or similar launchers. but for most of us the job is well done.
There are some others apps that i still have disabled. like:
Mirror:(its enable the front camera (selfie))
Remote link: allows you control your pc from the cellphone. (this is not bad at all if you need it)
Party link: i think it was like an app to share contact in a party but the other person should have the app installed also. The idea is not bad but too complicated to send a contact.
ShareLink: Dont remeber waht was this.
SuperNote: An app to do notes. im using other so i don´t have any opinion on this. But should not be bad at all.
WhatsNext: its like shows you what you have to do next in your calendar. its like a shot cut to your schedule.
ZenCircle and ZenTalk don´know like something "SOCIAL"
Giving a thought what i can say of ASUS apps. they are not bad at all i was expecting very bad apps. and they are being updated so it may be good to give them a try. they are balanced for productivity and leasure. they are quick and elegant. what i can say thumbs up for almost all of them
i cant deny they are A LOT.
Most of the bloatware can be disabled now. On previous versions of the firmware, this could not be achieved without rooting. That being said, its hard to deny that a select few of the Asus apps are actually quite useful and designed well for use.

i was not aware. good to know they are making things better. we need to wait 5.1.1 update to have better battery performance.
There is not even an iota of doubt that they are making things better but they should have released 5.1 now. its getting late every single day
PhotoCollage and Minimovie and flashlight are excellent aps. The others i don't use.
Let 5.1 come first and then you'll get real performance cause 5.0 supports only 32 bit unlike 5.1, it supports 64 bit too and memory bug leak is mind **** on 5.0
I actually like Splendid. Wish I could download it for my other devices such as my shield tablet.

yes I've latest firmware with WW version, I'm having one problem more. Does 2g work on second sim?
Well, agree that some of them are good - I like Splendid and Picture Collage, the camera app is good, and the PC Link suite are good. But the calendar is basically the same as Google one but much uglier. Mail app I prefered the ASUS one to Gmail, but why both preinstalled? Waste of space - shouldn't bother with Gmail one, those who want it can get from playstore. The Supernote app is awful - the finger writing function is just plain useless. Party Link is pointless. The torch app is OTT - a simple quick settings toggle would suffice. Live water - waste of space. Browser - why? It has Chrome, surely most people use that? I suppose some of the apps that duplicate Google app functions are needed for the CN sku, but we don't need them on WW models. I could go on, but I won't. Basically, I just wish they had put in only the core apps and then an ASUS Apps Hub app that introduces extra apps you could choose to get from the playstore according to your need.

HTC Music App 8.10 for non-rooted HTC 10

Hello Guys,
Since last week I've tried to include library files to the latest update of HTC Music app (I don't like Google Play Music, personal taste - And I really don't understand why HTC has removed it from the One A9 and HTC10 considering how great those devices are for music). Anyway here is the first version I managed to port.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_BPVbgprz1uUTUtUFpIWF9rSWs
Install it as a standard apk and let me know if it works for you guys.
It works on my unrooted, HTC 10 with android 7.0, and color themes apply normally.
As it uses Sense 7 libs, while this version is normally for Sense 8, and as I was not able to get my hands on the HTC One M9 nougat system files yet, some of the functionalities are missing (HTC Connect) and will make the app crash.
I'll try to update it when I have some more input to work with.
EDIT feb. 6th 2017:
Since chances are better to find what you're looking for there, I post the link to xpirt's thread on Sense apps for generic devices.
Has HTC Music as well as many other things.
HTC Sense™ Home - Themes | New Apps | Sense 7/8 | for all devices
Works on unrooted HTC 10(tw version 6.0)!!!!!love your share( I couldn't sucessfully use the one I downloaded on apkmirror)
Works but with few exceptions ( im with android 7 as well) Visualisations seem not to be working, HTC connect, as you have mentioned.
Play/pause button is static - does not change to play when playing and pause, when paused, unless i reopen the app.
Next/previous buttons do not work as well, untill I reopen the app.
Everything else - perfect, thank you! Hope you can update it soon

Great ! Thanks a lot. I checked and it seems lib files are the same as in the previous sense versions.
Maybe something changed in the framework though...
Would you be so kind to send me the framework apks too, or if you have some storage available, upload the system folder of your ROM dump so I can take a closer look at things ?
Thanks for your help !

Well, i don't have a M9. I have only downloaded a system.img dump some other guy made available.
If you can unpack an img file, i can give you the link to that download.
On my end, i can't upload the whole unpacked dump, as my internet connection is to slow for that.
But framework folder should be possible (won't be ready before tomorrow, if i'll upload it).

Will try to, for sure. Still trying to igure things out for the Music app (as I said, I'm a complete newbie in APK tweaking), currently fighting with recompiling and signing errors - but when I get a better version of Music I'll look into the gallery.

This is amazing. I would love to see the music widget return and be functional. It's so useful to quickly swap to any previously 9 or so recently played albums, synonymous to a CD changer, imo.
Unsure of why HTC would drop this. It is one of the best HTC apps.
Can you add Gallery too..Thanks for the contribution though...

You can install the widget apk separately, the one from apkmirror works (it does not refresh as well on other launchers, but you can use the latest plays screen, it works ok).
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/htc-corporation/htc-music-widget/
OK... Small progress update. I have understood (I guess !) most of the changes to port the app in a fully functional way have to be made in the AndroidManifest.xml file, before the apk is compiled - and signed. So in a few days (depending on how much time I have to spend on this idea !) I should be able to post a 100% functional app - assuming it is possible with Sense 8 stock resources... Then I'll start looking into Gallery app.
Thanks for your support !
Thanks man, it works, BUT, partially.
Here's some bugs I found:
- Tap on next song barely works;
- Tap on last song can only bring me to the start of current song, tap more times won't work;
- Tap no matter which song to play, the last song's title is still on, it won't switch to current song. But the song does play tho.
My device is full stock HTC 10 EU version, on android 6.0.1.
Take your time.
Related to this, might anyone know where the playlist files live that are created in the HTC app? I'd like them to be stored on the SD card so I don't loose them in the case of a wipe. I'm assuming they are .M3u, but searching and poking around in the apps folders gives nothing.
OK... So I didn't make any interesting progress. Basically I decompile original 8.10 apk, add the lib folder, edit one line in AndroidManifest.xml to remove device signature, recompile and sign. At this stage there are still a few bugs I didn't manage to solve - play panel not refreshing, widget not refreshing, and HTC Connect command making the app crash (while the three fingers gesture works perfectly on my HTC10).
Still trying to figure out how the apk in the post linked below (but edited from a previous version) work perfectly...

Is there any progress? Keep it up

Editing AndroidManifest.xml alone, you'll get the not refreshing widget when you select play, pause & so on. You need to edit a few smali code.
Are you guys talking about these Music & Music widget version ?

On all CM based Nougat roms the HTC Music Widget is crashing for me.
