Moto gives volte on 1 sim currently. But I came across an article wherein Mi has given one of its device dual volte support to its device using OTA update and also when moto enabled volte for airtel in Moto E4 with an OTA update.
I don't understand the logic behind, but I thought volte support was something hardware related then how can they change it over OTA?
If it is possible can there be a possibility of dual volte support as well as airtel volte support on potter using a custom ROM
First of all wrong section and second it's not possible until Motorola decides to give an update for this which is not gonna happen.

Can't anyone modify the latest TWRP flashable stock rom to support dual volte?
Then again, it would be just like an OTA, just modified by non - Motorola developers.

So the changes which Motorola may make in an update, can't be done by the xda developers? And you are basically saying that it is not a hardware thing?

Yes it requires a software update from Motorola. I have seen devs talk about it on telegram they said it's not possible without Motorola update.
But I don't think Motorola is going to do that
G5 Plus (Potter) is one of the best-selling mobiles ever by Motorola if they are not going to give such an update to this device, then what are they going to do with all the Human resource they have just loitering around!
Buyers, these days, judge OEMs based on how they supported their older best-selling devices and then make a decision whether to buy their current products or not, no wonder the company is not doing well since the recent past. Entire G6 line up failed due to this kind of approach. New players like Asus are pouring everything to attract buyers and Moto had Gold (loyal customers) in their hand yet they have been neglecting us.
Yeah the MI A1 uses the same X9 LTE modem as Potter. I was hoping the devs could do some sort of reverse engineering to get it working on G5 plus too. Honestly I didn't think dual VoLTE would work on the SD625. Don't you guys think Moto isn't listening to their customers? Kinda sucks right seeing the MI A1 have that and the G5 plus with the same hardware not have Dual VoLTE. Or maybe I am thinking too much?

This is what I was thinking. I still don't understand what an update specifically from Motorola could do which the devs can't. May be because I don't have the technical knowledge to understand but seems wierd to me that an OTA update from Motorola can change this but not devs
Okay so did some digging around and found out on the OnePlus forums ( They too are talking about Mi A1) that the Radio Modem is logical and tuneable unlike the WiFi modem which is purely hardware based. Some are even suspecting an exteral inactive modem on the SoC which is now being activated along with the FM Radio (it didn't have FM radio until Pie update). And for that Dual VoLTE feature to work there needs to be an OTA from the OEM.
So I think we are not getting that feature.
Edit: Snapdragon 632 uses the same X9 modem and has dual sim dual volte. So I guess it all comes down to the OEM.

It will need baseband update. Its impossible to do this without Motorola. Nothing devs can do about this.

It is my understanding that the development of ROM for this phone may be limited since it won't be available in the US. Right now, I'm wondering if there's anything we could do to try to jump start development? I don't have enough knowledge to develop anything on my own but maybe I could supply data using my Moto X Play? I know enough to install stuff like TWRP without bricking the phone. Anyway, at least, we don't have to suffer the atrocities of an ugly skin like TouchWiz since Motorola adopted a bare to the bone attitude with its firmwares. I also heard that these Motorola phones will be among the first to receive an official Marshmallow update.
I'm in the same boat. I don't know what's all involved with custom kernels or anything, but would love to see how we could tweak our phones.
It's being released over there as a droid variant is it not?

Hello,
I'm searching for a new phone and currently I ordered a OP3 but it takes a month to be delivered so I'm considering cancelling and getting the Axon 7 (Eu version).
The single most important thing is how ZTE supports the Dev community. Is the EU version unlockable right now? I've seen some guys saying it but it doesn't seem to be publically available right now? Can we expect ZTE to support CM devs so that it will run without major bugs? Oneplus also considers to help with camera drivers etc which is a huge plus, can we expect something similar from ZTE or will they just be like all the others? Also what other phone features will probably not be supported (fully) by AOSP roms? Will the quickcharge work? Will the Atmos stuff work?
If there is definitely a CM Rom coming to the Axon 7 and it will be working as Daily driver I will walk in a store tomorrow and buy it but I will definitely not do so if I will have to stay on stock rom, or the CM will suck.
Sorry if all of this sounds like I'm being hard on the device but after seeing how some companys patch their devices to **** (looking at you Samsung lel) I just can't stand phones without good custom rom support anymore
The unlock for the EU version is coming shortly. It has not arrived yet on a public release but will be in about a week! I can confirm this as they sent me an unlock early to test
ZTE is working with CM devs to bring CM to axon 7.
ZTE are always working on camera improvements.
Quickcharge will work, atmos should work.
I've only seen this and it doesn't look like Zte really cares about the custom developement: https://community.zteusa.com/thread/12243

jyee is ZTE USA's Vice President of Technology or something like that.
I mean it does sound good but it has been two weeks since then and the Dev (Unjustified Dev) here in xda still speaks about reverse engineering. He even says: "Nope Cyngn Inc is closing down as far as I know. " and as far as I understood ZTE will only provide help to official Cyanogen Ports?

Although I don't understand any of this, if it's actually what you say it is then it's definitely a proof of some sort. At least something is being worked on

Cyanogen Inc is not CyanogenMod...
Think about Cyanogen Inc like a closed door.
While CyanogenMod is an open Window.
But both are benefitting from each other.
Here is a quick google search:
http://www.androidauthority.com/cyanogenmod-cyanogen-os-differences-702198/
Also that Cyanogen Inc is closing down is just a rumor mill. What they actually did was to kick out some developers which were under Cyanogen Inc payroll. That of course pissed some devs off and it backfired in rumors.
But like I said ZTE doesn't provide any help to Cyanogenmod devs do they? That would be a major go for the oneplus 3, they even announced to support them with better camera code etc
Both phones (Moto G5 Plus and G5s plus) have same hardware except for camera and display. Afaik, camera is the only hurdle on the software side that is preventing a direct interchangeability of firmwares between the phones.
So, is it possible, with little modification, to have G5s Plus firmwares (and custom ROMs too) work on G5 Plus and vice versa?
If my assumption is wrong, what other bottlenecks are there? Can they be overcome to achieve interchangeability?
If we somehow figure it out, we'd have a huge merged community with great support and more custom ROMs. It'd also ease the software development for both devices.
Immediate benefit would be getting the Oreo on one device from the firmware of the other, depending on which gets the update first (And thereby, future updates too)
Also, if anyone is willing and has a phone with unlocked bootloader, please try flashing G5s Plus 7.1.1 firmware on G5 Plus using fastboot (may be skip unnecessarily partitions, but then again, I have no idea how to go about it).

I am also really curious about this. I don't have one, so I can't test this out, but will probably buy one in the next month or so. If this would work, it can dramatically improve both groups.
I was going to try, but i don't jave any replacement device right now and i don't wanna mess up.. hope someone can help us

Exactly my situation. If I had a backup phone, I'd have already tried.

Just a heads up, there are very popular steps of getting out of a hard brick scenario with this phone fairly easily. The following link is one example:
http://www.aryk.tech/2017/09/moto-g5-plus-unbrick-solutions.html
That being said, I can't blame you guys for not wanting to test it under your situations. Hopefully this can be figured out quickly, so that we can make some progress with the Moto G5 plus.
Anybody know if/when this update is coming? Verizon updated their version of the G6 last week. Also, is anyone else frustrated that it is taking LG so long to update Android? Oreo was released August 2017 and it is May 2018. I like LG hardware a lot on the G6 and G7 models. But I am having a lot of second thoughts about buying their phones in the future due to the lack of software support. Maybe I should just get a Pixel next time.
LG says they have created a new division in the company focused on improving the speed of Android updates. I am not sure they will focus on older devices though.
https://techcrunch.com/2018/04/12/l...-bringing-android-updates-to-its-smartphones/
Would it help at all to contact LG and tell them I am switching to Pixel due to their poor software support?

No, no one else is frustrated with it. Nobody else has even thought about it. It's literally only you. That's why when you searched, you didn't find any other threads about this.

It could help you feel better. LG won't give a shit, though. You wouldn't be telling them anything they don't already know. They won't even reply to your email. I'd take that to mean, "Okay. Enjoy your Pixel, then."
I mean no disrespect to the initiator of this thread, but I really wish there would be some moderation and conglomeration of the threads, I requested this elsewhere.
Basically the whole Q and A forum has become useless-- just a bunch of unrelated and random threads about Oreo with unanswered questions and random observations, often without any relation to the title.
Everytime I visit the forum, there is yet another pointless "oreo" thread started, which divides people's time, attention and effort to answer.
There should be one thread on Oreo updates and that's it!!!
People, please stop posting of new oreo threads!
The thing is that the other Oreo threads did not have details on unlocked model us997. In any case, for a person with medium tech skills, how hard is it to load a custom Oreo rom to this model LG G6?

No one knows
LG continues to be indifferent to software updates especially for non-carrier unlocked phone. I am also not going to buy LG cell phone once I switch to G5 in 6 months.
Every where i look the Qualcomm moto e4 custom development is stagnant. Not even security updates. Does anyone know if anything's happening for this phone??...............
I've been trying to teach myself everything i can about Android but I'm not at the level where i can code the OS to my preference.
Thank you for any and all help

OTAs on stock seem relatively current (XT1768). Toss in Xposed framework and a few well regarded modules and there is no need to muck with a custom ROM and the associated headaches. I know...stock sucks by definition just because it isn't custom or carry a boss name. iDK bro - I kinda like to use my device vs manage it. Radical.

I was wondering the same thing. Just got a boost xt1766 which (from what I read) I had to put on a custom ROM to get it working with gsm carriers. I flashed the unofficial lineage is 14.1 from @squid2 and its working great, but no security updates since December.
I was wondering if development is not happening for a reason (issue with this device) or is it likely to pick up when Lenovo stops putting out OTAs for it?

For me, it's just been that I had neither time nor the mood to work on it when my father fell ill and later passed away. I've started working on Android again, but it'll probably be a month or two before I get around to revisiting this device (if I do). I'm currently focused on the msm8916 family that i support officially.

Very sorry to hear of your father's passing. I did not want this to be a push for anyone to help, just wondering out loud. Thanks for the response and I wish you and your family my deepest condolences for your loss.
