Phone shutting down randomly - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everone. I have the Samsung Galaxy S5 (Octa core version). Recently, i noticed that the battery had a strange behavior, so i planned to replaced when i finish my exams. During that time, the phone started to shut down randomly, so i bought a new battery thinking that would resolve all the problems, but it won't. The phone keeps shutting down alone, it happends when the battery percentage is below 60% and for turn on again i have to connect the phone charger or remove the battery and put it in again. Some times, the baterry percentage changes -/+ 15%, even from 40% to 3%. Oddly, sometimes the phone just get a black screen when i using it or the screen suffers some kind of distortion and shuts down.
Already did a factory reset and did some test on safe mode, but no luck. Curiously, when the phone is charging, there are no problems of any type.
Any clue of what could be?

Sudden battery drain when standby

here is the situation, while i left my tablet in my backpack on the way to work, i noticed my backpack becoming very warm.
to my surprise, it was my n10 and upon inspecting, the device has already died 0% battery and cannot turn back on unless i plug in the charger. Mind that i did not do anything prior and it was left untouched since last night with the battery at approx 80%. And battery drain happened while it was in my backpack as the device was unusually hot when i took it out.
Now the weird thing too is that while it's charging, it completely froze to a black screen at least 3 times, everytime needing me to hold the power button for few seconds to reboot the device back.
it's the first time this happens on my n10 and it wasnt a result of a new rom or app i've installed as i haven't touched my current configuration for months.
anyone experienced this and know what might be the cause? battery dying/faulty perhaps?

screen not showing up in battery usage?

Trying to fix this android os draining my battery, turned some things off, charged my phone and rebooted.. well now screen isn't reported as being on, and it's not showing up in the list of things using my battery. Plz halp.
Mine does this from time to time, or the screen stops recording time on - usually charging it and unplugging resets and fixes though. I put it down to reboots/kernel flashes etc on my side.

Note 4 drops from 50% battery to 0% instantly. Anyone else had this problem?

Hi there, I currently have a Samsung Note 4 running CM12.1 and in the past two days the phone has randomly "crashed" late afternoon/night (5.30pm today and 8.40pm last night). My phone performs fine throughout the day and then I'll notice that the screen doesn't wake up if I press the home button like normal. If I then power the phone on it boots up and instantly powers off after booting since it has "0%" battery. Both times the phone had plenty of charge in it, around 30-50%. Has anyone else encountered this before?
I have some screenshots but I am unable to post the Imgur links in my post because of my post count. Any other way I can post them?
Specs:
SM-N910F
CM 12.1-20151022-NIGHTLY-trltexx
Android 5.1.1
I can provide more specs if you wish.
Buy another battery, if another battery is OK then your old battery is broken
I had a similar issue where it would, after a clean software reset, shut down unexpectedly at 20% or so - then subsequently at 40%, 60%, and further 20 percent increments when I'd let it shut down of it's own accord. RMA'd it under warranty, pretty pleased with the service I got. No software fix for it.

Recalibrate your battery. I had this issue, too, after flashing another ROM. My Note 4 would shut down and die at ~50%.
1. Download Battery Calibration from Google Play
2. Fully charge your phone. By "fully" I mean not only to 100% (which, in your case, will be something like 50% effective charge), but until your LED has turned green. For good measure, just turn your phone off and let it charge overnight.
3. Run Battery Calibration, and tap the big button that says "Battery Calibration"
4. That's it.
You should do this every time you flash a new ROM, because there's always a chance your battery gets miscalibrated during the process.
Thank you very much for your help everyone, I'll try the Battery Calibration and let you know if it fixes it!

Nexus 6p suddenly shuts down at ~20% battery left

Hi guys,
I have a problem with my nexus 6p's battery. My phone is always shutting down as soon as it reaches around 20% left. I tried a full factory reset, different roms but the problem is still present.
The strange thing: I can't boot into android after it shut down. But: I can boot into twrp. I could run my phone for 2hours in recovery mode. I made about 10 backups and deleted them immediately.
The display was on and on 100% brightness.
Is it possible to recalibrate the battery? This is so annoying!
You probably need a new battery. Download AccuBattery from the Play Store, and use it to check the health of the battery.
Yeah definitely the battery I had similar issue. For now you could just keep the battery topped up but in time will start doing it at random times.

Sounds like a battery that's done...get a replacement...they're not that expensive.

Once you emptied it in recovery, try charging and quickly (with fast charge like 10s should be sufficient) booting then without using the phone, letting the phone charge and stay 1h30 at 100%.
Then let it discharge and when you reach the 20%, you need to have the minimum discharge rate (airplane mode, no heavy app, screen off). Every like, 30mn, check your percentage and screen off again.
Has anyone had an issue similar to mine? My issue is that the phone never shuts off when i'm using it. Randomly, a couple of times a week, i lock the phone after using it, and when i go back to turn it on, i see that the phone has shut off. I can turn the phone back on without needing to put it on a charger. Running PN + EX kernel if that matters.

Phone freezes, then restarts when battery is lowish

Hey all,
The first time this happened a few days ago I thought it was a fluke, but the problem has now happened twice. Watching youtube with my battery ~7%, the phone froze, and proceeded to reboot itself. Upon turning back on, it showed 6%,. It quickly drained within 5-10 minutes to 0%, and then shut off. Today I was writing a hangouts message with 5% battery left and same thing happens. Phone froze for a few seconds, then force restarted itself. Booted back up and showed 4% battery, then quickly drained to 0% in minutes and turned off. It is weird as the system is turning itself back on, so it realizes the battery isn't actually dead... but the battery is reaching a point where it is low enough to cause the system to meltdown (maybe the OS is throttling itself?)
The first few days I got the phone I also noticed early shutoff, where the phone would actually run out of battery while still displaying 6-8% still remaining. Also frustratingly, when my phone enters "battery saver mode" at 15%, it very often causes my foreground all to refresh itself in RAM, especially if the app has a "dark mode" battery saver option. Not sure if this last bit is normal or not, but it interrupts whatever I am doing.
Any thoughts? The battery life is OK otherwise with 3-4 hours SOT.
