Hello everyone, i just wanted to ask is S7 edge getting 9.0 update? If not will it be possible to port 9.0 from Note FE cause its almost the same as S7 edge? Tanks ?
Unfortunately, S7 and S7 Edge are not getting Android Pie ? .. and bout porting 9.0, I really cant tell. It's not my domain of expertise, but I hope someone start doing it already cuz porting is all what xda developers bout.

Wow, well that's odd
I really doubt that there will be a official 9.0 "Pie" release for the/my/our beloved S7 Edge. If for no other reason than this insane policy of 2 major android updates per device. Plus, Samsung- with their lackluster sales/support for flagship devices- wants to sell new phones to boost profits- which, for flagship devices- has suffered big time. They are not too concerned about retaining existing customers.
One can only hope/pray that some developers will be able to port Pie for us. One thing is for sure, based on the rumors of what the S10 will offer- and COST-, I just might keep my S7E a lot longer, even if I only get to keep rooted Oreo.
Wait and see...
It's common for the mobile manufacturers to test the new firmware on some of the older devices. This does not guarantee that it will see the light of day.
what u mean rooted oreo i got oreo on my s7e will my phonevbe ok n just stay on oreo or will i have issues?

Hello,
I am about to buy nexus 6p. The main reason is the pure android for app development.
There is also the s7 edge for 50 euros more in my country.
Considering google stops guaranteed updates on September 2017 for nexus devices, does the s7 opens the possibility for continous support by updates and custom roms, so i can keep on latest features and stuff ?
Really need some help here.
Thanks a lot

If you want original android and Google`s guaranteed Update then you should go for Pixel devices (obviously if money doesn`t matter). Though nexus 6P is an excellent device, and the Nexus 6P is the best Nexus ever made, but it`s bit old(2015),though it has also excellent XDA support.
But my vote goes to S7 Edge. It`s an awesome device with faster processors, a better camera and a bigger battery to boot and full of features and excellent XDA support.google may stops guaranteed updates for Nexus Devices in future, but I think it`s impossible for Samsung to do the same for S7/S7 edge. But you`ve to spend some extra (as you`ve already mentioned).
Go for S7 Edge and hope you`ll not be regretted.
Now it`s your choice.
Had 6p sold because poor performance and Zero battery, buy s7 edge it is better phone
I've had both! I prefer the S7 Edge, and it's what I'd recommend simply because it's much newer, the camera is better and well, even though you don't get the speedy updates from Google via the Nexus 6P, Samsung are pulling their fingers out of their butts and they're improving it!
The S7 Edge will have longer support, be faster, better battery life, batter camera, better screen, more ram................hmm which one to get
Supportwise wait for the S8 since once that is released the S7 will be in second row.

yeah, I would love a pixel one, when it gets lower in price, maybe later.
I really don't see why you're "so confused". The very first thing that you say you want is "pure android", which isn't and never will be Samsung's goal or target market. And since that is your #1 priority, why would you consider a device that's 2+ years old?
I like my S7e. But you need a Pixel.?

Thanks for your response,
As I said in my first post 'is about google stopping updates' after september that's trouble me.
Sure, pure android is the way to go for me but i'm not gonna spend so much for a pixel atm.
As long s7 takes the nougat update or maybe even the next version that's ok with me.
Is there a chart or something for s7-s8 upcoming android versions/updates?
Go on Galaxy s7 edge.
is nice device and have alot custon rons and aplication.

Nougat is already on the way and the S7 will get Android O as well; just a question of time.

No and if it would not be reliable at this time.
However, for Galaxy flagships you can always count on release version plus two more (S7 was released with M and will get N and O, S8 will be N with O and P).
Google itself says two years for its devices which is usually release plus one and probably one more for its devices.

From what we know the S8 has the same camera and battery, smaller on the 8+ so it makes more sense to get the cheaper S7 Edge
But the S8 will have one year longer support and will be in the front row regarding updates once released.

I'm sure it will.
But what about its cost ?
range of 700-800 euros ?
Because i'm talking about 500 euros here, for the s7 edge exynos
why are we stuck at 6.0 for so long? ( i know there are unofficial 7.0 roms but still)
Each Galaxy Flagship has 2 years major support from Samsung, for Note 4 it's already passed 2 years.
so as per Samsung and most of other company logics and standards, if you want the latest updates you need to get a new phone, even if your old phone is capable and better than most of the new phones.
While the Note 4 could easily run Nougat if Samsung decided to release it. I seriously doubt that we will see Nougat for the Note 4. Samsung hasn't even address the swappable battery charging problem with any of their OS updates, yet.
This is what I absolutely hate about this business. They make devices obsolete by not updating them anymore. Politics really has to do something about this.
even with the 6.0 marshmallow update, they didn't change it much from the previous version. even they update the Tab s2 to 7.0 which has the same chip and ram.
Why should they? Even if Note4 is still a good phone, it is pretty old model, no point in upgrading it. The competition is huge, Samsung has to concentrate on new models. They want people to buy new phones, not upgrading old ones, and even if for some of us seems totally pointless to buy a new handset because of it´s new OS, some others do it.

So why Apple still support 2012 iPhone 5 in 2017 ?
The last Samsung phone I owned was a Galaxy S3, a few years later I bought the Galaxy S8+. My previous phone (the Z5 already has android 7.1 for months now). Even then people on XDA were complaining about how slow Sony updates their phones. But now I'm here, with the S8+ and I'm wondering, why does the S8+ not have android 7.1 yet? Is there any schedule available of Samsung updating this phone. There's also so little development. Back in the days the Galaxy phones had so much development going on, which I missed.
I'm happy with this phone and android 7.0, but android 8 is almost coming and were still running on 7.0.
the step from 7.0 to 7.1 is not that big...
At all but the note 8 will be first
I've been in the Motorola community for the last 3 years, but I think the lack of development has to do with Knox.
Also, is bought this phone knowing that updates were going to be slow, and I am fine with that. After years of custom roms, I am getting tired of doing workarounds just to get things to work. I am happy to have things just work.

I agree with this, the only reason I rooted my phone was to use AdAway and mainly to use Viper4Android. Which I'm regretting a little, since I can't use Secure Folder, but I'm hoping someone manages to make it work... With Knox tripped. Now a stock ROMs are so good that rooting isn't needed as often to require something.
Although people say the step from 7.0 to 7.1 aint big, progress is progess and in my eyes Samsung is taking a long time to update this phone.
Yeah but its a bummer seeing £500 phones come out with it (Blackbury, One+) come to mind and my £850 flagship is still running 7.0

More likely Samsung is going to skip 7.1 and we will get upgrade to 8.0

Why does anyone care. It's just a number. We've got the latest security patch and apart from that 7.1.x brought basically nothing new.
Better Samsung invests their time into a timely 8.0 release.
I care. Android 7.0 has a bug in its (default) TLS implementation which makes it not work with implementations / servers which offer higher ec curves than 256 (such as secp384r1 or secp521r1). If any of those curves are offered as preferred, the whole TLS connection fails (instead of just using a lower curve, if offered; or a non-EC cipher suite). This bug has real world implications. E.g. davdroid (caldav / cardav sync adapter) fails with any TLS server using such a setup. To make matters worse in nginx this can only be configured globally, i.e. for all domains served. While the config option is available in server{} statements, it doesn't have any effect. The nginx developers claim this is due to a bug in OpenSSL.
Anyways, the true issue is Android 7.0 failing. This has been fixed by Google in 7.1. Of course Samsung could backport this fix, and remain at 7.0. But they didn't even do that. Given that this bug is known for a long time and has been fixed (in 7.1) for a long time this is really bad support for a such a premium phone.

yes I also think that samsung will skip 7.1 to directly go to 8.0, and as 7.1 is not that big and Samsung is not very quick even for big os upgrades

There are more sources saying that S6 WILL get Oreo.

There is even more I'm sure.
They are not sources, just articles related to the same source already cited here, people from Samsung support center, not the official statement from Samsung.
In this case, seeing is believing. I don't think we'll ever get official statement that Oreo will be supported for S6, it's either it will or it won't, only time will tell. Certainly if it ever comes, it won't be before March or even April.

You are right, they are all using one source, I messed up. Still, they are not saying there's a chance, they are confirming it's gonna happen and they seem confident. I'm sold. If it doesn't happen then I won't consider them a viable source of information anymore.
I'm still not convinced. It might even be that they plan to update it to Oreo, only to be cancelled at some point.

May I know what website is that? Thanks
Although I'm not sure if this is going to be real, it's technically possible. There's a phone called Galaxy A8 2016. Since the 2015 models of Galaxy A Series got Nougat, that device would almost certainly get Oreo, and it has similar specs to the S6 (Exynos 7420, 3GB RAM). It wouldn't be too much of a job for Samsung to support S6 too.
Maybe we could port Oreo from the A8 2016 if Samsung chooses not to push Oreo for S6..
Guys don't be so pessimistic...
The Galaxy S6 is still a very good and strong device. It is a Milestone and it deserves Android 8.0. They are probably updating it to 8.0 because they want to Change their update polity and thats really great. Be happy, at least they consider to update the device and do not cancel the update. They also could have said "No the S6 won't receive 8.0" but they didnt!

Oooo such intresting news about new software update. Galaxy s6 will may get android 8 oreo.
I have a perfect matched gif for this
Why samsung need to waist extra time and resources on a such "failed" device when they already are orientated at quantity instead of software sussport ? Battery is terrible, probably 50% of users already in 1/2 years of use switched to other device, like galaxy s7 or s8 or other one with better battery. Because.. I truly believe a lot of users was like , - pissed of with 3-4 max hours screen on time.
There is no point for them to do this. When they already released a lot of new devices with new android version etc and also with upgrades like biger batterys, galaxy s7 etc. As samsung stated, they provide 2 years of software updates. Thats it. So they what ? Changed theyr update policy somehow ? Where updates then, refreshed policy about this that they changed theyr own rules ? No official news from samsung, nothing.
Samsung turkey, samsung other or else etc.. who cares about them ? Samsung turkey once stated about nougat update when s6 will get and they lied about date when it will release, delayed a lot. And now states about oreo ? Haha.
I dont believe either of them. They just writing what they want witchout any facts or confirms. Again.. - rumors without trusted source.

Hi Guys In This Thread We Will Talk About The Official Oreo Update For Note 5
Any one knows any new news
Kindly post it :good:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung-galaxy-android-8-o-update
The weird thing For Now That They Put the Galaxy s6 in (These Galaxys may or may not get Android 8.0) category
And You can see in gsm arena they that galaxy s6 is planned To be Upgraded .
But They put The note 5 in (These Galaxys will not get Android 8.0) category
And If you asked me why I’m talking too much about galaxy s6 and the connection between it and the note 5 i find the answer pretty obvious ,
actually if you compare the hardware between them you will find that they have the same Chipset and the same CPU and the same GPU !!!!!
So You Can Say It’s Not A Hardware issue .
If oreo will not come to note5 and came for s6e then the devs will port it for note5

I hope , but it will be a stupid move from Samsung
Accordoing to me , Samsung won't give Oreo to Galaxy S6. Because it have taken two major upgrades.
We can only wait for Galaxy A8 (2016). But on the other hand, it's not a flagship device. So, maybe Samsung will give Oreo to Galaxy A8 (2016).
There is no hope for me.
It's a joke not to update at least the s6 and note 5.
Especually since people went two years nearly with the note 4 and 5 being the only notes. And Samsung didn't give either of them justified updates making up for that fact.
Its not Samsung though. Sadly all companies are like this. Google is pretty much no better. And the only ones that give any more have weak uis in comparison.
And anyone claiming about i phones getting updates is clearly too niave to speak on the matter
Note 5/S6 Edge will receive at least 7.1.1. For Example Note 4 start with 4.4.4 and received 5.0.1>5.1.1>6.0.1=3 updates. Note 5 start 5.1.1 and receive 6.0>7.0=2. Next between android 7.0 and 8.0 are not much changes. So why no called 7.5? Maybe merketing and full of numers are reserved only for the newest devices.
This is why I'll never get a Samsung phone ever again. They are only supported for 2 Android versions, the software sucks, lack of support for Exynos cpu.
I've been impressed with the Xiaomi's I've used. The screens are not as good as Samsung. But even Samsung's screens are not good compared to LG.
