Will I lose everything if I wipe my phone? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

This is my first phone without an expandable SD card. If I do a factory reset or clean wipe, will I lose everything that's on my phone? Like pictures, downloaded files, mp3s, etc? Or are there locations that won't be affected by it?

Yup. Unless you do a backup or store everything to a cloud storage.

I'm running the beta 2 build, rooted, but I've been having some random freezes. So, I'd like to do a reset and install a stable build. I'm trying to determine the easiest way to do it, while keeping all of my apps and data intact. Also, settings like Google authenticator, etc.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk

the problem with that thinking is if your current "build" is problematic, and you flash fresh and clean, and try to restore that, what ever problems you had with your earlier build will most likely be transferred to the "fresh" one..

It depends.
There is an option that preserves the SD partition unless you specifically ask for it to be erased.
This applies if you use the reset in the options.

I think I'm correct here but there is no slot for an SD on the Nexus 7 is there?

Yeap cloud storage, and also AirDroid when you're at home or around a computer makes things quite easy and there's always the option once you're rooted of just using a USB flash drive, and I can't imagine not rooting this thing, that would just be crazy.

Why everyone so addicted to cloud storage sites?

I mean, what's the point of it? What is everyone hiding in there?

Just a way of extending available storage on the Nexus 4. Since there is no Sd card slot, one can put files on cloud storage that can be used if needed.

HUH it has NOTHING to do about HIDING something.
Files in the cloud can be accessed anywhere, your home PC, your phone, your laptop, go to a friends house and you need a file, boom it's there, etc.

Physical backups can fail, having a copy of your files in the cloud is just another layer of smart backups.

It's quite obvious. The limited storage this device has will resort most people to use cloud storage. You can access it anywhere if you have internet connection. You can upload photos as a backup just in case if you lose your phone or your storage mysteriously deletes itself.
I upload my homework, pdf files and important documents.
I use cloud storage frequently for sending project data back/forth with clients, FTP's are a PITA, not so much as an extended storage means for my phone however.
It sees most of its use as a phone specific thing if I have to transfer a file to/from my phone and don't feel like going to the kitchen to get my phone attaching a USB cable and adb pulling/pushing files.
I use mine for backups and to send pictures to family as I don't have free mms I just upload n send them a link bingo
no ones hiding ,most of us use it to extend our limited amount of storage like most around here we back up oour back-ups ie. media so we dont have to keep it in our phones all the time. cloud storage is very helpful in my opinion. and we'll always have access to it almost anywhere anytime. with a internet connection of course.
Nothing to hide actually... I just find the fact that you can access your files from anywhere in the world with an internet connection wonderful..... Useful as hell especially when your job requires you to move from place to place....

[Q] out of space?

My wife just got an M as a replacement for her old Rezound. She has had it for about three weeks and the phone is already telling her she is out of internal storage. However, when I look at her storage it appears that only her "Backup ASSISTANCE Plus" is full. It's unfortunately causing her phone to be worthless. Does anyone know how to fix this? Her phone is completely stock. Thanks in advance.

couple of tips:
1.) don't use backup assistance - use google to store your contacts
2.) make sure that your camera settings are set to save pics/vids to the mnt/external1 folder (no sdcard in internal storage)

Might also want to disable Backup Assistant in the Application Settings.
Also, clear the cache and make sure that no leftover OTA updates are stored.

If you root, you can easily store apps on external. Also, internal is partitioned into 4gb halves. One for the the ROM and the other for media/etc. Personally, I don't understand how people fill that up so quickly. I use very few apps and all my media gets stored to my external SD. I'm still sitting at about 3.5GB available on my storage side.

I understand it's portioned but I've never seen a phone require half of its internal storage. As for media, it's all going to her card. I guess if you use few apps your ok, but that's not the case with a 5 year. You shouldn't have to root for a phone to be functional with a relatively low amount of apps in use.

It came straight from Verizon as a replacement phone so all I know is that it's a refurbished phone. I cleaned up the backup assistance so hopefully that will help. I have a theory that triggered the warning and loss of functionality. We'll see. If it pops back up, it's going back to Verizon.

Makes sense since this phone is loaded with it. This is our first Motorola smartphone. Is that a Motorola issue with excess bloat? I know all phones have it but this seems like a lot considering the limited amount of internal memory.

bloat is an issue with all Verizon android phones (the bloat helps bring down the costs on the device).
one of the drawbacks to this device is the lack of internal memory. however, the bigger drawback is in the OS that prevents folks from moving apps to their SD Card.
but once I rooted, and installed a "clean ROM", I got a lot more space.
with your wife's phone, I suspect she has the latest OTA baseband (check the phone settings, if the baseband is prior to May 2013, then you are in luck - DO NOT ACCEPT the UPDATE). if the baseband reads May 2013, then your only option is to gain root access and freeze/delete the bloatware.
if space is an issue, I highly recommend to go this route. otherwise, start trimming some of the apps she never uses.

soooooo forgot about the sdcard issue

For now (till we get root) use the "My Files" built in app if you need to write to the SD card. It's about the only app that seems to work consistently.

have you tried DOING anything with your 128 card? some of the stock apps will play nice, but even deleting a picture will give you a "sorry KitKrap doesn't allow sd card access". when I finish a video and go to delete it "sorry KitKrap doesn't allow it", when I use Google Drive and move a doc over to another folder or file "sorry KitKrap; nope!".. I've always been extremely well organized, and I've put a lot of time into organizing my SD card with any files or folders I'll need or use for work, and KitKrap won't allow any of it.. it's actually the exact same thing as when the "LOCK" switch is switched when you plug a standard SD card into a computer, except you can never turn it off.

Actually i discovered that the stock photo browser app only hides images, doesn't delete them. It may just be me, but after taking a string of shots of my daughter and trying to delete all but one, the gallery app said they were deleted, but when i plugged my phone into my computer they were all on the sdcard. Curious if others have the same issue?
Gonna be fixed in Lollipop. Long live sdcards!

Mostly I have all my pictures saved to it. I also transfer movies and tv shows to it on a daily basis. (Download a tv show to my laptop and transfer it to sd card via usb) On average, I have about 5GBs of free space left on my card.
Only ran into an issue once. I tried to delete a folder (season 5 of the show"24") and it claims that the card was "Write Protected" So I went into the folder and deleted the episodes . Folder still remains but its empty. Other than that its been working fine.
BTW I'm using the SanDisk Ultra 128 GB micro SD

I noticed the stock apps dont refresh and also keep a massive cache. I moved a pic folder and it remained in the stock pic app as cache, including full sized images. when I moved my music folder it did the exact same thing.. there's no refresh option. I cleared data and cache from the app, but it must be using some other means to cache, because nothing is actually better afterwards.

Assuming Android team leaves the option intact for the public release. Notice still no sd slot on the Nexus devices in spite of card writes "apparently" being part of the framework now Never doubt Android's hatred for sd cards. Were it not for Apple buyers scarfing up almost all the flash supply allocations for the iPhone launch, the G1 would have had 2GB of flash and no sd slot.
We can truly thank Apple for why Android devices have sd slots in the first place. :victory:

You don't understand the issue. Kitkat took away the app's ability to write/delete any where on the SD card, it only allows full access to the app's own folder on the SD card. I.E. sandboxing it. Apps are still able to read the whole SD card though.

That was my first thought, so I did order a new one...but now trying to get them back.
My computer doesn't even see the card on my phone. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Try testdisk, it's worked for me plenty of times on failing SD cards & hard drives:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download
Remove the card from the phone, put into an adapter & plug into your computer, then run testdisk & follow the prompts.
