My wife and I both got new phones, her the XS Max, me the 6T. My phone takes good pics, hers amazing pics. When I send her photos and video they look ok, when she send to me it looks terrible. I'm hoping this is a compression setting on her phone I can change but my question is how do we send best res media back and forth? I'm using GCam, she the stock IOS camera. Any help is greatly appreciated.

My wife has the iPhone X and she loves the pics I take with the GCam and stock. I send videos with Google photos. Upload them to the cloud and send a link to view video.
Reason : Standard MMS protocol applies compression for images and videos. Imessage to imessage doesn't do this or probably does some kinda lossless compression.
So using Google photo is always going to be easier that maybe searching for an app we can both use? I can make this work, thanks for the advice.
Have y'all tried WhatsApp to see how much they compress compared to standard SMS?

I notice if I take a picture from my already snapped pics taken at full resolution max quality the stock messaging app will compress the pic all the way down to 5kb and a ridiculously small resolution. However if I set the camera to 1mp or so it doesn't reside because it falls under the 1MB size limit.
I love the fact that it has the ability to compress the image , but its just a taaaaad too aggressive with the compression lol.
How can I toy with this? I don't even know what apk does the resizing, or if its in a script file somewhere.
I'm not happy with Handcent or Chomp. I have nothing against the stock app. It works fine as far as im concerned, other than this tiny bug.
If this is not an option is there a photo editing app that does compression? I have Pic Say Pro but I don't think it does custom compression.
Id like to be able to resize the pics to say 1024x768 (or whatever the widescreen equivalent is.) At about 80% quality.
I've been trying to find an answer for this as well since I moved to flipz's rom. I don't want the pic resized at all but if it's going to at least keep it reasonable.
Anyone?
Wow. Just tried this out it really does compress it down to ridiculously small sizes. It would be nice if we could just edit the restriction and not have our pictures compressed at all.
Has anyone figured this out? I notice now that I am at 2.1 it compresses images way to much and my images I send end up super small with a ridicules small resolution.
I think handcent sms is less aggressive with pictures.

I use Handcent and while the pictures are resized it is not bad at all. I've looked at the pictures on my girlfriends phone that I send her - and everything looks good - not quite the quality of the original, but good.
Here are some i've taken tonight, I take alot of sunset photos, with different settings just to see the outcomes. I did the same and still do the same with my Omnia and with my Digital Cameras to.

Hi guys. This is my first time posting but I've searched through the forums and can't seem to find much. Is it possible to have an auto flash mode for the camera? I know there's limitations with 1.6 but the X10 mini has this functionality and wondered if there's any way to import this? Apologies if this is a stupid question
It would have great to get this I dont know anything, but after rooting, may be it's possible??? Or the LED light on/off button on viewfinder? then we can be able to on/off led with single click without going in settings
hi all,
ive had bad experience with the x10 camera app and i though i might have a faulty camera or something is screwed up but the problems are with the actual app, ive since started using vignette as my camera app, you can make it as default camera app, ifs got flash on/off/auto, different effects, and it doesnt compress the images as much it leave an 8mpx photo between 3.5mb - 8mb and thats actually the approx size it should be without loosing quality.
ill upload in a few min the pictures ive taken with the x10 using that app
best $3 ive spent on the android market.
S.E. should learn from its developers of how to make a camera app
the images are to big to upload here and i dont want to resize them so as not to loose quality of the originals so heres the link to view the images,

let me know what you think,
i think the effects are great, great quality pix

Woww if it has on/off/auto, then it's very useful

It is a really wonderful application!
Thanks for pointing it out!
I love the effects, they are good for some quick unique shots,
ready for upload immediately!
Really wonderful app !
is late at night where im from (Australia) but ill take some outdoor pix tomorrow with both original camera app and the vignette one so you guys can all see the difference. so in about 12-14 hours ill upload comparison pictures
This app is pretty awesome. Funny that the developers could make the X10's flash work like, well, a flash. How the heck could SE not figure that one out?? It's now my default camera app. 4/5 and would be 5/5 if they could speed up the camera. This is my only beef with the camera on the X10. Takes too long to take the actually photo. My wife's iphone takes it instantly, and I must say that given the fact that it's only 3.2 mega pixels the quality of the photos is pretty darn good too. Must have something to do with the app itself.
Never the less Vignette is one of the best paid apps ive purchased to date.
I'm surprised the pictures aren't up lol
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I bought this product on the recommendation from this thread.

One of the above was taken using Vignette with the autoflash function, 8 mp setting and auto exposure. The other was taken with stock camera with flash light on. Which do you prefer!?!
I would say that I took various photos of different things to see what the difference was but I think its pretty clear to see. The images with Vignette were all poor focus. Needless to say I have uninstalled/refunded the app. I'll stick with the stock camera for the time being.
By the way never done on line pics before so dont know if above links will work!
Whoa!!
Where did you guys buy the X10 with a flash? I want that version! Mine only came with a photo light, which isn't designed to be used as a flash!
The Vignette app from the market gives you flash functionality over the photolight which is probably its most redeeming feature cos the photo quality was pants!
I've had some impressive results with Vignette - took some photo's of a document today using it and it was definitely sharper than with the stock cam..?!
Oh no, so what was I doing wrong?! Why were my pics so out of focus? The reason I sent those two in was that I even put the camera on the edge of the shelf to steady it to see if it was me with camera shake.
Don't say I've ditched a decent product cos I got the settings wrong!

Well one is in focus while the other is out of focus, that's not an app doing it.
How do you guys use the flash with vignette app? I have it on my phone but there's no option to turn it on!
Don't you have the "flash icon" on the screen - over on the right, 2nd from bottom when in landscape mode... ??..
And Suzed - Did you change any of the "JPEG file settings" - 2nd icon from the top on the right when in landscape mode... I think mine started on 2mp normal, I've changed it to 8.0mp superfine.
personally ive not have any problems with vignette,
set flash to auto,
8mpx, superfine.
one other thing i did was set in the options to touch screen to take photo, that way it does auto focus and only take photo when you hold it steady, so photos are in focus and great, check out photos ive taken
http://img375.imageshack.us/g/20100710160347439.jpg/
only thing is it takes some times for the photos to be processed and uses up a lot of resources, in my case adw launcher reloads when i exit the vignette app, but i dont mind as long as the pictures i take come out great
i have a question for everyone using Vignette.
In daylight is taking the same overexposed as the stock app?
With the stock app i have control over exposure compensation so, after lowering EV with a stop or two everything is fine but Vignette demo doesn't have exposure compensation support.
How is it in the full version?
Can somebody take 2 images one with Vignette and one with stock outside in daylight at max quality (8 Mp, superfine)?
I bought Camera FX sometime ago but is useless as it doesn't have any EV/ISO/etc. controls.
I have a sports publication and we do interviews with athletes and coaches. My writers currently use handheld video cameras such as the Flip or Kodak lines to do these videos and then we upload them to our system. Obviously the quality isn't great but we still get nice clean videos that our customers enjoy. Is anyone here able to compare the quality of the video from this camera to something along the lines of what we are using?
Also what are the options currently for live streaming? I assume since most Android apps can be used I could continue using USteam for live video? Again I understand this camera isn't going to replace a high end camcorder but if we can get decent quality I think it would be a good purchase for me.
With the camera still being rather new I'm having trouble finding many sample pics and videos so any links to those would be greatly appreciated and what I would really like to find is some sample streaming videos. Thanks!

It's quite capable of shooting short videos but being built as a camera may not be easy to hand hold if you are primarily going to use it for video capture since there is no proper hand grip.
The picture and video quality are very acceptable but it's not a cheap device.
If your writers have smart phones they can just link the Galaxy Camera to the Hot Spot of the smart phone without having to add a data plan to the camera for uploading or streaming the video?
You should go try out one at your local dealer and see for yourself if it suits your needs.

Android apps work just as well as on an SGS3, zooming apparently doesn't work in some 3rd party apps, but a review mentioned it's being worked on. It won't replace any pricier camcorders or SLR's, but if you get it at a fair discount from its usual over £400 price tag, it's an ok find. If you want good video and Wi-Fi check out Sony's NEX series.
You could always use Youtube for live streaming as well as UStream or similar. The camera has optical image stabilization which is quite good from what I've seen, it compensates nicely even at maximum zoom.
This video might be shot thru a window, looks a bit like that, but still a nice example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV7jOJt7rqM

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this or not. On my last few devices (Galaxy S3 and S4, Note 2, Nexus 4) I was able to stream photos I have taken on my device to my XBOX 360 with the same clarity as the photo. When I do this with my G2, the quality is horribly grainy and extremely poor quality. I at first thought it was my device, but when I save a photo from the web and stream it, the quality of the photo is perfect.
1. Has anyone else experienced this?
2. Any know issues?
3. Any way of fixing this?
Thanks in advance

I noticed today if I share a photo from my gallery to my xbox, its very low quality and grainy. I downloaded a dlna app and the same photo is sharp and crisp. Any ideas as to why or how I may fix the OEM app? the dlna apps for sharing photos and such are a pain to use, and I stream photos often... Thanks for any insight on how to get the oem dlna to work correctly

The issue seems to be the stock LG Camera app. If a photo is taken with Instagram app for example, and that image is streamed from the gallery just as I would a image taken from the stock app, the instagram photo is much better quality. I reached out to LG and they are useless for support. Any ideas as to why if I stream a photo taken with the LG app it looks horrible, but when I use another lower quality app it looks much better? I went and bought another device just in case it was my phone, and the new one does the exact same thing..

When utilizing DLNA app from the market, photos taken from the LG Cam look good. Does anyone know how to mod the Smart Share app settings? Perhaps this is the issue?
