Can’t stream videos on disneylife and netflix - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I bought a new nexus player for 30 bucks hoping to have a simple player that plays disneylife and netflix for my kids. Big mistake. I can’t stream any videos on disneylife, I get “an unexpected error occurred, try playing video again”. And on netflix it says “we’re having trouble playing this title right now. please try again later or select a different title” i tried reinstalling the apps, even factory resetting the nexus even though it’s new. Still same problem.
Can anyone help? It’s version 5.0 and it says it’s up to date in the system update.

Video freezes

I have searched and can't come up with any other threads that describe my issue. Any time I play video it freezes for a fraction of a second about every 15 or 20 seconds. The audio isn't interrupted, it's just these tiny video freezes. This happens with Netflix, my downloaded Transformers movie and DroidTV. Basically any video, whether streaming or downloaded.
I did a factory reset and even exchanged my N7 for a new one but I'm still getting these tiny freezes. Anyone else experience this? I thought maybe it was the DroidTV app messing it up but I uninstalled it and my Transformers movie still freezes. Not sure what else to try. Thanks.

Video problems in kit kat

I have the v500 since christmas and i had no problem until i updated to kit kat. Before that, i watched my videos on bsplayer (its quite easy for using subtitles) or VLC, but now they both dont work well. Bsplayer is like slow, i mean, every 2 seconds the image stops for an instant and then continues, sound works without problem. In VLC it's the sound that stops working once every five minutes more or less, and for a few seconds. Sometimes, it also happens with some games. I alredy tried to restore the device and reinstalling the apps. Also deleting data files and cache of both apps.
Anyone having this problem and a solution??

Although I like BSPlayer and it works fine for me, I should point out that the default video player by LG works very well, reads subtitles just fine, and many codecs.
Did you clear app data or did you try uninstalling the apps and do a fresh install after the upgrade? I don't use either of those apps but i did have a problem after the upgrade with a couple of apps behaving badly until i cleared the app data and one required a reinstall.
doh, can you tell I was watching hockey when i wrote this? It looks like you already tried my suggestions...
Sent from my LG-V500 using XDA Premium HD app
I have problem with videos also.
I has started after changing soft to new soft 4.4.2.
While playing video (.mkv or .mp4), in defeault player or in MX Player, every few minutes, the picture is freezing for few seconds (audio is playing normally).
I have tried with different movies, always the same.
Before Android update everything was allright.

The same is happening to me as well. I'm considering following the thread in XDA about downgrading to original 4.2.2, but I'm worried about bricking the G Pad. It's the last option; i have tried with several different players, and after a factory reset to no avail.
It's a mess from LG, I can't understand how this could go under the radar during their testing phase.
Anyone has info about future updates?
this actually happens to me using the stock video player on kit kat. I been using mx player since then with no issues..
Hi,
I have exactly the same issue with videos on 4.4.2 whatever video player I am using. I updated my tablet as soon as I bought it, so I can not compare to 4.2.
I switched to the ART runtime (you need to enable Developer options to do so) a week ago and since then, video playing is smooth again.

[Q] Unable to stream any media to phone, able to stream to Chromecast

I've recently come across a strange issue with my G2. I've been unable to stream any type of media to my phone since about a week ago. Literally, any kind of media...Youtube app, Youtube in the browser, Google play music app, Pandora, any other video from a browser, etc... I believe it started when I flashed a recent nightly of Carbon last week. Figuring it was just an issue with that particular nightly, I flashed a newer version a couple days ago. When the issue persisted, I switched over to the latest version of the Gummy rom. This hasn't fixed the issue though.
What throws me for a loop is that my internet connection works great for browsing the web, email, and texting (google voice). It's only streaming audio or video that doesn't work. I can, however, cast audio/video to my Chromecast (though it's obviously not streaming thru my phone).
Nothing actually gives me an error except for Google Play Music, which just says "Music temporarily unavailable - Couldn't play the stream you requested". Pandora just skips from song to song every few seconds, never actually playing any of them, and Youtube (both app and in browser) just stay at 0:00 time and a black screen.
I've search around a bit and can't seem to find the same issue anywhere else. Hopefully somebody has an idea? I could re-flash my phone with the manufacturer's utility s/w but I'd prefer to avoid that if possible.
Has anybody even experienced this problem before?
Nobody?

Green flickering w/ Google Play and Netflix

I purchased a Nexus Player the other day and rooted the device. Did all sorts of cool things for testing to see how I'd like to get a final setup going. Once I had everything set, I decided to catch a movie on Netflix. After choosing a movie, I hit play and the movie starts to load. However, right when it got ready to play, the screen started to flicker green. I backed out and tried again but same green flickering.
At that point, I tried to cast from my phone and tablet to the Nexus Player and still got the green flickering screen. I then tried to just play something from Netflix directly from my TV's Netflix app to see if it was an issue with the TV or the Netflix service but it played fine.
So, seems like the Netflix app was broken on the Nexus Player. That's when I decided to try Google Play Movies on the Nexus Player. Same deal... Screen flickers green when I hit play on a movie. I then tried to cast to it and still get green flickering. If I cast to the Chromecast on that same TV, it works fine. So, I thought "ok so looks like video playback is broken on the Nexus Player" .
Wrong again! I tried the Hulu app and YouTube app directly from the Nexus Player and those stream fine. Looked like only Netflix and Google Play Movies apps were broken. So I uninstalled the apps and cleared data/cache but still the same issue.
I unrooted and did a factory reset but still got the green flickering. I checked for updates but I was already updated. I returned my unit thinking I had a defect and when I got the new one, I tested again. This time without a rooted unit. Before I did an app update on the new device and fresh out of the box, I tried Netflix and Google Play Movies. Same deal...green screen flickers when I hit play. So, I then proceed to update Google Play Movies and Netflix since they had updates available. Still the same issue.
With that said, the two units (rooted and stock) have issues with those two apps. I called Google for support and we got up to level three support. They suggested I try to exchange it one more time and now I have a third unit with the same issue on those two apps. Still green flickering. Even my HDHomeRun works well streaming live TV to it.
I don't know what to do at this point. Is anyone experiencing these issues with Netflix and Google Play Movies on their Nexus Player? Any other suggestions? I switched the HDMI cable and even the ports. For what it's worth, my TV has HDMI 2.0
For what it's worth, it sounds like the only thing you haven't tried is a different tv/monitor. Do you have another screen you can try it out on? What kind of TV is it?
Google results are weird on this one. Free recommendations to find and install Netflix 1.3 and if that doesn't work then try installing "Full!Screen" or a screen rotation forcing app and rotate it a few times to make the flicker go away. Not a solution, I know, but maybe a workaround.
Same here

I've had these exact same problems with mine since day 1. these things are trash.

LG V20 plays sound but shows no videos?

For the past couple of days now, whenever I try to play a video, I hear the audio fine, but don't see any video, just a black screen. At first I thought it was trouble with my YouTube app since that's basically where I only watch videos and read on several forums that the issue was caused by having the official twitter app (which is weird since I don't have twitter). I also tried restarting my phone, uninstalling/reinstalling youtube, installing older versions of youtube, all of which never worked.
So I decided to swallow my pride and just download a fake youtube alternative. To my surprise, the videos still show a black screen and only play audio. This had me thinking, so I tried to play a video in my camera roll I downloaded... Same problem, however, if I play a video I recorded myself on the phone it works... The even weirer part is though, that if I play a video through youtube via the Chrome browser it works (despite it looking like 140p and horrible audio) but it works! I've also tried smart cleaning, deleting cache and data but to no avail.
Is there a problem with my phones flash player, or whatever extension it uses? I know Chrome uses its own built in player which could explain why it sorks in Chrome but not anywhere else.
This all seemed to happen randomly, I didnt do anything. Games and other media including music still seem to work fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Also I am rooted on 12A and have been for the past 6 months.
I'm also having the same issue with my vs995 running on rooted 12A
