I have downloaded an Mp4 film but the film is 320x240 so doesn't look good on the screen as its too small, is there any free software that I can change the resolution to a bigger size? also how do I go about doing it? I am not very techi minded so any help would be such a help, thanks.
320x240 mp4 files play fine for me. What are you using to play them?
Incidentally, you can resize videos both up and down, but there's no point resizing a small video to a larger size if your player will play it full screen. You can't get better resolution that way.
I am using core player, I have tried to get it to play full screen but I just can do it, it plays wide screen with black borders at top and bottom, I can watch it like that but would prefer to be able to watch it full screen..

Touch the screen when it's playing
But, for mp4 files, you should use the in-built video player as it supports hardware acceleration, and therefore plays better.
I have tried touching the screen in the windows media player and its still the same, whats the best format in core player?

Play it in CorePlayer and touch the screen. In windows media, you need to go into the menu and select Full Screen.
Core player will play many formats. It's a massive discussion if you want to know what people think is the best.
So...
CorePlayer, touch the screen.
Windows Media, use the menu for fullscreen.
But, I'd recommend using the built in video player for mp4 files (just navigate to the file with file explorer and click it. If you've not changed any file associations, it will use the in-built video player).
I will go and try and see what happens, will update my thread in about an hour, thank you so much for your help....

this is because the aspect ratio of the movie is different to that of your screen.
If you made the image fit the screen to get rid of the black bars you would be stretching the video height, this would make all people look tall and skinny, or you could fill the screen while maintaing aspect ratio but would loose some of the video of the sides where it cant be seen.

It was actually because he was playing it in portrait, not landscape.
Hello,
Because of the relative new size of the screen, a lot of internetstreams and videofiles are not full screen. but there is never an option to zoom, or change the aspectratio. Some thirdparty apps are having those options, but when I start a streams straight from a site, it comes with a basic androidplayer without any option...
how to fix?
(sorry for my bad english )
when your video is playing just double tap the screen to maximize it

nope
does not work...
I tried it on mine (have some movies that I've ripped for my 4th Gen Ipod....) it works a treat for me.
I can also confirm that double tapping on videos works great to zoom them and make them full screen. Videos encoded for the iPod seem to play great, though I'm still getting audio/video sync issues somtimes.
well I would like to know if the camera when set to video mode could somehow be set to never shoot video in the "up and down" look, I only it to show in the normal widescreen mode that is 1920x1080
once the video is started it cant be changed but if you start the video while pointing the camera down it could be started as in the wrong format
the same goes for the normal camera pictures I never want anything other than the format I set it to
are there any known roms that have something like this for the camera app
lastly I should maybe ask if since I have only watched the video/pictures on the phone if it were on a computer could it actually be 1920x1080 video, like the phone shows it sideways and the accelerometer in the phone makes me turn it sideways to watch it without having black lines - but would a computer ignore that and just have normal video?

There is an app called Video Rotate that will turn the video from portrait to landscape. I've used it for a few videos I recorded in portrait and it works flawlessly. Aside from that, you just have to remember that to get the proper viewing on playback and take advantage of this awesome screen and on your PC, you have to record in landscape( Side) and not Portrait( Up).
The computer will see it exactly as it is on your phone. You can rotate the video but if you recorded it in portrait, once you rotate it to landscape it will still have the portrait aspects. I'm pretty sure there is an app to stretch it to fit landscape but then you lose resolution on the video. The only way to get the proper video is to shoot it in landscape
so when its shooting in portrait mode is it actually 1920x1080 just portrait or is it some strange resolution than then when rotated and shown on a 1920x1080 display will be noticeable
I know the iphone video recording in portrait is not the same as landscape just turned portrait - a friend told me his iphone sometimes records like that and he tried to rotate it and it ended up looking like it was altered, not the same as if it was shot in landscape so it was like changed he said

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtI_OfPT7I0- Perfect example of why not to shoot video in portrait mode.
so why is it even still an option to shoot in anything other than landscape
is it to hard to just remove this option from all phones - I cant see a reason why anyone would want to record in portrait mode anyways
attn all developers of roms out there - make this a feature, stop the camera from even being able to record in anything other than landscape

That's easier said than done. It can probably cause more harm than good. It's an option. Both ways work and will play back fine on the phone. It's just an unwritten rule that all video should be shot in landscape for optimal viewing or for uploading/playing back on a PC. However, on your cell phone, sometimes shooting in portrait works because you get to capture more of a field of view from top to bottom as opposed to side to side. Landscape limits your abilities to shoot certain things from top to bottom so that's why you have the option. You just have to be conscious of this when shooting your videos.
Why would you want to record or watch a vertical video that just makes no sense. What's next companies start making vertical TV and PC monitors we can not let this continue to be a trend would you want to spend money to go see a vertical movie in theatres? Ironman 3 in vertical 3D come on think about how dumb that sounds.

Some people like to take vertical video regardless if it's wrong or not. On your phone it looks normal but once you upload it that's when the fun begins. However, you can't stop people from shooting video the way they prefer. I just don't want to hear the complaints afterwards if they they indeed record it vertically and are not happy when they upload it.

My friend was obsessed with recording vertical videos than get mad when they looked like **** on YouTube I'm like of course they going look like **** duh stop recording vertical videos. So I made him turn his Tv to the side and asked him do that look stupid he agreed and never recorded a vertical video again. I'm like this don't buy a smart phone and treat it like a 90s flip phone. Who wants to watch a video with two big ass black bars on the side.

Hi
We all know that Samsung has implemented a way for youtube videos to 'crop to fit' to screen, which cuts off some part to hide the black bars but in the built in video player samsung also has stretch, which I prefer, anyone figured out to do it without root atm?
Also any ways to do it for Twitch as well? Since Twitch the button doesn't pop up?

I mean for videos, they still show up with black bars, sorry for confusion, Twitch for example and chrome when playing videos
Besides videos, do you lose content on the side when apps are in full screen or do they resize properly?

So you want it stretched out so everything is fat? Our aspect ratio is non-standard.

In motion graphics settings, I see only Gallery, Prime Video, YouTube & Netflix, I have downloaded MX Player & VLC, but no sign of it in the settings. How to enable motion smoothing in this supported apps?
