Hi guys,
After updating my LG V20 to android 8 the icons are always rounded square shape (specially Google & LG apps) even if I change it to original shape in the settings. Any idea or solution to this problem?
I don't want to install custom ROM & icon packs. I want my phone clean from these junks.
Guess its the compulsory new look courtesy google

I can feel you. I also want the nougat design back
Anything in the app store close to it, like one of the Nougat Icon packs?
For the time being I switch all icons to rounded square until someone find solution

So Actually I was going to write a thread about the two themes present in the samsung's TouchWizUI: White and Blue.
My Galaxy Tab 2 P3100 i.e. tab shows me only white theme while the phones shows the blue one.
But while messing with the LCD density I found that the firmware Actually has both of the themes.
so I started experiments on my tab with different LCD Densities and found that while we have both of the themes but we actually have all the three UIs with us too.
It's been the 4.1.1 update that made me loose my fav tabletUI and make it to the PhabletUI.
By changing Lcd density, we can see the changes in the UI.
Please see the attachments for Screenshots.
Range:
Below 140 is the TabletUI with the white theme.
Between 140 and 160 is the PhabletUI with white theme
Above 160 is the PhoneUI with the BLUE theme
though changing LCD density to other than 160 will make the touchwiz home and keyboard app to crash.
but using alternatives [launcher and keyboard app] can make it cool.
also densities greater then 160 [phoneui] will also cause the camera app to crash and the UI will change the camera Icon with a cute little green android.
Review:
TabletUI:
1) Samsung white theme is seen
2) There is no bar on the top
3) Notification bar opens from bottom
4) Battery percentage Is displayed
5) Even on rotation to the landscape, button bar [The one with the back, home and recent buttons on, sorry don't know the name for it] stayes at the bottom
6) In lockscreen only bottom bar is present
PhabletUI:
1) Samsung white theme is seen
2) Bar on either side of screen i.e. Notification bar on top and the action bar [let us give it a name] at bottom.
3) notification comes from top
4) notification bar doesn't fill the screen
5) no battery percentage indicator
6) On rotation each bar stays at there respective position.
7) lock screen differs from tabletUI as there is only top bar not the bottom one.
PhoneUI:
1) Samsungs's beautiful blue theme is seen.
2) UI almost same as PhabletUI with each bar on either side of the screen
3) Notification fills the home screen like what happen in a phone
4) When orientation changed to landscape, the Bottom action bar shifts to the right
5) Gestures in the bottom bar used to open google ow is not present.
6) Battery indicator is blue in color while it is green on the other two modes
7) When connected to PC via USB, Battery indicator neither shows a cross mark nor it shows charging.
8) Settings menu now don't have the dual panel
9) Camera icon replaced by android icon
100 Camera app is crashed
I also see a little performance boost when in phoneUI made.. may be because of no TouchWiz mode.
[Note:
Remember to install a launcher before changing the LCD density because it will make your TouchwizUI to crash and you will not able to select your apps from the app drawer.
Rather you can also put your build.prop editor in the homescreen shortcuts so than you can use it from there. but make it before the changes, you will not be able to make changes in homescreen shortcuts as it is a part of TouchWiz home and on opening, it will crash.
Your replies are appreciable.

Easiest way to change modes is to use a custom ROM. AOKP being the better choice. DPI changer built into the ROM If you wish to add a custom theme ( set it to 159, default being 160) and you can switch modes via ROM control and a quick reboot. I'm sure the OP knows what hes doing , just giving some advice to less experienced users.

I know that custom roms have better control on modes but the motive of this post to tell others that we already have the three modes with us along with the two themes ON STOCK ROM.
For those who don't want to shift to a custom rom or argue that we lost our UI after updates. This post is for them.
Less experience lol
I agree with you totally , but the amount of threads in this forum where people have messed with stuff not knowing what they are doing are plenty. Hey I was one of them when I joined the forums :crying: I've had bootloops by the dozen and even totally bricked a device by flashing the wrong thing on to it , an expensive mistake to make.
I actually like the stock ROMs , just that i prefer total control over the ROM i use, a personal choice ....same as yours ! I was just offering advice to new users. Basically make sure you know what you are doing before you do it or use something that's designed for the job if you dont.
Finding out how to recovery from a bootloop and how to restore a device from a nandroid is a must.
I do find it strange why people stay on stock , not even with root access.Surely that's what the spirit of Android is about, what makes our tabs different from the locked down nature of the iPad. Obviously its the users choice as they paid for the device , just an observation.
Have fun with your DPI

we won't learn to stand unless we fall.
okie I was infant about the bootloops. but I've learned from it.
I've previously use many custom roms and flashed my xperia many times. even bricked it a lot. Flashed , bricked and recovered.
I guess thats how u learn.
and regarding staying at stock was because this tab and its TouchWiz is new to my hand and want to learn it before trying something.
Trust me custom roms are not so far from me.
Amen brother ! If you have never had a bootloop you're not an Android fan
I actually got the phone UI by mistake on AOKP M1 > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33898491&postcount=440 ,seems really strange on a tablet. But was fun messing with it. As for stock....Just about to flash the new official-ish JB on to my tab and give it a spin , be rude not to IMO.
Get a custom ROM on your tab you will love it, what you got to lose ? Can always flash back.

People,
Many thanks for the nice ROM! It took me a few attempts at changing from CM10.1 but I eventually got there. I will check it out more thoroughly in the next days/weeks.
I was able to find out how to create new panels by holding an app icon near the edge of an existing panel but it appears there is no Setup tool to change the grid size of the number of apps on a panel? - I would prefer six rows of five icons . . so the icons would need to be a bit smaller.
Thanks,
Phil.

For the men time there's no way to change the homescreen grid size, as it isn't a final build yet, use Nova or Apex Launcher, they were updated to the latest KitKat looks, until that option is available
I'm gonna add this soon

Hi XpLoDWilD,
I am new to this android software flashing.
Can you pls provide a detailed step by step procedure to install 4.4.
If it will resolve the issue "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538012"
This is the main reason I wanna do something in my phone..
Kindly help
Hey folks!
I've recently updated to Oreo and realized that if I change the icons through the samsung theme store the preinstalled apps(maps,chrome,drive,playstore..) has that same rounded cornered touchwiz crap look and arent changing. On nougat this wasnt a problem,I changed to another icon pack and if the app wasnt themed it would go back to app's default icon. I cant even force the app's default icon(like youtube staying in an ugly white bubble).
Also, I tried turning off icon frames, without luck. The mentioned apps stayed the same
Any advice?
Apperently google apps don't change the frame
That are the beautiful "Adaptive Icons", another great idea of Google. All developers have to include different shapes of icons now, and Google itself is lazy af and just puts a white border around them to match the shape of the other icons. Can only be changed in custom launchers with icon packs unfortunatly...

Thanks for the explanation.
Hopefuly Google will provide the correct icon pack (same for LinkedIn I've noticed). Those white frames look very bad
I was having the same issue. In past used "Icon Changer". This also stopped working. Strongly recommend using "Adapticon" play store. Can add widgets that act as app shortcuts. On home screen and in dock. I think it will do the trick.

Wait, you mean it doesn't just work like it used to? That feels like a step backwards.

Technically adaptive icons are supposed to come with built in functionality for notification badges too (vs the add ons that Nova could do if you let it, this would be native to the OS) and that was going to be "their advantage" but yeah, they're so ugly.
Everyone I've seen likes the unique shapes that Android app icons could have. It gave them personality AND it was easier to find an app by sight then it is now. Before you could quickly pick out a well-known app just from its outline. Now we've lost that ability with the loss of icon shapes.
Stupid move on Google's part.
anybody knows how to bring back icons without frame feature for pie on galaxy s9,s9+ or note 9 without launcher? These circle icons with white background are driving me crazy

Totally agree. What's even worse is if you have CONTACTS icons on your home screen (e.g. using contact shortcut widget). They all get a white frame, when the contact pictures were already round framed. The contact faces now get shrunk to a minimum, and they look small, sad and terrible in the frame.
**** What were they thinking? ****
The option to remove the frame has been dropped from the UI. The only option is to load a custom icons set from Themes... I did that and it sort of fixes the issue. Only problem then is I don't really like any of the icons set I've seen in half hour (can't spend more time on this), and after switching icons I now see Icon badges don't show when they should.
Pretty mad altogether. Why, oh why must Samsung always do something to spoil an otherwise very good update?
Also (off topic, but I need screaming about this...) - In my entirely personal opinion, the new PIE icons are ***** to begin with. They have nothing to do with the style of the device and are just goofy. I wasn't a particular fan of the OREO icons, but, in the end, they were WAY better for this device than the new ones.

Hi I got OnePlus 6t and I have a problem with the navigation bar . Always but always is white when I am using a colour application a game or something and become black if I use a white application like chrome for example. I can understand this is a future to prevent screen burning but for me is so annoying. My wife got s9 plus and the navigation bar become transparent plus you got the option to change it black or how you like it.
I don't know if is only me or I am too fussy but is so bad so fuxxking bad I try to speak with some guys in the community app I try to tell them a future abut this but they not doing anything..
Now I flash beta 4 hoping that they done something. Guess what . Nothing
Try the app "Navbar Apps" in the Play Store.
Nothing against the author of the app mentioned but having to give out that much access to your device to change something that should be part of the theme is a design weak point.
If you're Rooted you can install Xposed and use BlackNavigationBar and it works flawlessly.
rahlquist .
Yeah you are right they can add this future to change the nav bar easy.

i will root it back just for this future ,i didn't know that xbosed is working on android 9 , i will check a tuturial on xda forum
Hi all,
i didn't want to make a whole thread just to ask if any have found/use a app similar to what "Custom Navigation Bar" by paphonb used to do?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-custom-navigation-bar-customize-t3590967
i dont want to change colors or add images like other apps, i just want to add a back button on the right side same as the left one for the pie navbar. is not about swap the back button to the right, is having 2 back icons and change the image to dots.
