How to enable Scheduled power On/of on custom roms? - Xiaomi Redmi 3s Questions & Answers

Dear Developers i want to know that is there any method with or without root aceess to enable Scheduled power On off feature in custom roms as this handy feature is available in every stock rom. I really miss this feature in custom roms. Currently i am using Superior OS rom.
Second, How we can play alarm sounds while phone is switched off?

It would be nice to see this feature back again, howewer no attention of developers since early LOS 14.1
BUT in @nichcream LOS 15.1 unofficial alarm clock sounds when the phone is off! (BTW mms are working too). In general it works for me, cannot say it is 100 % sure as I had one missed alarm on switched-off phone connected to charger... And battery usage is somewhat more than I'd said phone is really powered off... Still testing but looks interesting.

Screen won't turn off with IM app open?

Hey everyone! I've got yet another problem... I have Jivetalk installed, alpha, and when it's CONNECTED, it won't turn off the screen. Only dim! But when DISCONNECTED (but still open) it does turn off!
So I thought "Geez... Lemme install another app!" so I installed Palringo, and same thing... Screen dims but won't turn off!
Is this a kind of known issue with apps that use data or leaves ports open or something? Some help or advice would really be appreciated.
www.beejive.com, if you'd like to try jivetalk (which I recommend 100%. They're the best.
I'm from Beejive, the developers of JiveTalk.
The screen item is a known open bug in our current alpha build (0.5.2). It will be fixed in our next build, 0.5.3.
You should get an alert in your app when the new build becomes available.
thanks.

Ohh then that makes me happy to hear that! Is there an ETA on it? I love your products, I've been using Jivetalk on my ipod touch and my blackberry. Also, is there a forum specifically for you? Or a Thread somewhere to talk about the WM6 build? Thanks

we haven't ran a forum for this alpha cycle yet, though we will start a few threads here and maybe one or two other forums once we go beta, which should be soon.
The backlight fix is already in the 0.5.3 dev build, but we're waiting on a few emoticon support fixes (the main feature in the 0.5.3 build) before releasing it to the registered alpha users.
For feedback, we prefer emails sent to our winmo address --> [email protected].
Wish MSN Mobile would keep the backlight on - it goes off in its normal power saving mode, but doesn't light back up again when you receive a message.
OK I think I understand what's going on. I see that on Skype they give you an option to turn off the screen or not, because they want to know if it should be turned off and go into standby or not. By default it must keep it from going into standby to keep a constant connection. I imagine JT must do the same thing. hehe. Can't wait for the next version weee! because right now when I receive a missed call, or an SMS and the screen turns on (i manually sleep it with the top button to keep JT open and not kill the battery) it stays on. Last night I went to bed early, put it to sleep myself, woke up and the screen was on all night. From 97% battery to 45 in 8-9h hours without use (my usage, but the screen was on! haha)
Can't wait Keeping my fingers crossed.

Smart Lock not working 90% of the time.

Currently running the latest Chroma rom with the stock kernel. The little circle that's supposed to show up around the lock icon at the bottom doesn't show up 90% of the time (http://prntscr.com/abhku3). I'm trying to unlock it with a bluetooth (not NFC) fitness band.
This isn't a problem with the band, because I tried putting Face Unlock as well, but the detection doesn't show up most of the time.
Is there any way to fix this?

I haven't had an issue with smart unlock before, I pair it with my Moto 360. I don't know if it's the kernel because I personally use the Taurus kernel and not the stock one, that might be a reason but again I don't know for sure at all. Maybe on Multirom I'll install a second Chroma and leave it on stock and see if I can get it to reproduce what you're having, I'll get back to you in about 20-30 minutes on how it goes.
-Edit- Might be a bit longer since I need to redownload the latest build. My internet can be slow at times
-Edit 2- I haven't had the issue, at least with my watch. Not too sure how much further I could help you :/

It is a bit strange. I do have one final thing to test out actually. I just remembered my girlfriend got a generic bluetooth fitness band thing for her senior year, I'll charge that up and see if that gives the same issue since I still have the multirom boot with it. It'll take probably an hour to charge it since it's just a generic one.

I'm certain it's not the band's fault cause gave unlock isn't detected either. I'll try the pure nexus and cm roms to see if it makes a difference.

Especially if the band was working fine on other roms or devices. CM 13 is my main daily driver rom and I haven't had a single issue with several bluetooth devices I own, I always will recommend it xD The fitness band is almost charged and I'll test that out here real soon

I only got the band 2 days ago and have just tested it on Chroma.
Quick question, does CM13 support Volume Key to unlock AND double tap status/nav bar to lock? My power button is screwed up and it barely registers. Also, are the latest nightlies stable or should I go with an older build, if I don't plan to update my rom in the next month?

Double tap to sleep, yes. Let me quick boot into it to make sure for the volume key. If you get Kernel Auditor and the right kernel you can have double tap to wake which is wonderful. Ok it does have the option for volume key unlock. I haven't had any issues with the nightlies, a while back I had one that would randomly freeze my touchscreen but that was early last month.

Sweet, I'll give CM a shot! I hope the smart unlock was a rom problem and not a hardware one. My phone's nearing the end of it's life, so it's more than possible.

Alarm clocks fail in morning S7 edge 935F (fixed)

I just got a new S7 edge 935f. I rooted it with magisk after installing twrp. I have tried a few Nougat stock roms and in all of them, my alarm clock fails to go off first thing in the morning. It will come on when I push the home button and for the rest of the day all alarms work fine. It is only the first morning alarm that fails.
I wonder if this is due to something wrong with the kernel, and if installing a custom kernel may fix this. Or is the a lib file that may be corrupt.
Anyone else experience this kind of problem? I read in a few articles and forums that it is linked possibly to a SOD (sleep of death) bug. Hoping some information can come from anyone else who knows of this.
Thanks in advance.
So a custom rom and kernel failed to fix this. In the kernel settings with mtweaks I even allowed all wake locks. Mos puzzling and even slightly frustrating...

Hey have you tried using a third party alarm clock so you can test if it's an isolated case or with all of them ?

yes I have and all have same issue. For the first alarm I have to manually wake up the phone, all others work through the day.

Yes, I checked all those things... I wonder about MM 6.0.1 if the issue would remain or not. I found an app "SOD Killer" that I will test. It results in some battery being used to keep it from going into deep sleep. Have googled this and there are a lot of others with the situation but not a lot of fixes around.

I feel my alarms fail as well from time to time, but i think the culprit is, in advance features the easy mute function have you tried turning it off ?
It might have a bug or something with the sensor.

No I haven't tried that. I have mine working now. It woke me up this morning. What did it is the app "SOD Killer" which is on google play. It increases battery useage a little but until I find out which file is keeping phone asleep, it's a small price imho.
do not "freeze" or "doze" or use any similar apps to "kill" clock app in background.
which means, clock app needs to run to have alarm working.

I don't kill or freeze anything. Only thing I have to make alarm work is the SOD Killer app that keeps phone from going into deep sleep.
So a funny thing happened on the way back to Marshmallow 6.0.1 as I had just finished getting through setup and was about to start doing things on my phone, I got a notification that there was a firmware update downloading. It was taking me back to 7.0 and it upgraded my phone to the first version of Nougat for Luxembourg. Then a few minutes later another system update was downloading and I installed it and my phone now had the latest Nougat for Luxembourg. So first thing I checked was the alarm. I set one for 4 hours later, and it worked. I also tested an overnight alarm and it also worked. So now I have working alarms. Still going to downgrade back to 6.0.1 though, just feels better than Nougat to me.

Incoming calls in 'Do Not Disturb' mode.

Hi everyone,
Don't know for sure if this is the right place to post the thread as it is a Miui 10 problem.
As I am totally happy with my rooted Poco F1 on LineageOS, I bought my girlfriend a Redmi Note 7 recently (which i keep unrooted). Great phone overall, but there is one big issue for us and that's the DND (Do Not Disturb) mode. First of all, when DND activated there are still Whatsapp notifications which is a well known bug in Miui, because I read it everywhere. Anyway, I just disabled the notifications in Whatsapp so that's no big deal anymore.
Bigger problem is the incoming phone calls in the DND mode. When someone is calling (not a favourite/starred contact), it's almost impossible to see if the phone is 'ringing'. The screen keeps black and only when you activate te screen you see a small green block in the left top corner with 00:00 written in it. This is pretty frustrating as we never can see if anyone is calling. This is the first time I face something like this, usually the screen lights up and you will see the incoming call information. On LineageOS it works perfect actually...
Somebody facing the same problem? If yes, is it possible to solve, as DND mode is complete useless for us now...
Thanks already!
Best wishes,
Mark
UP! Sorry for being pushy, but this is really important to use the phone in a proper way.
Thanks again!
Mark
I think this is just a Miui 10 'bug'. Does this forum have a Miui 10 section where I can post this question? I searched for it, but I can't find it that quick. Maybe I'm a bit blind as well
Thanks!
Mark
Sorry to bother, but is there no one who face this problem? Or is it just how the DND function works?
This is not how usual DND works. It's just an Miui thing. I too find it annoying since I depend on DND a lot. Best option is to unlock and flash a custom ROM with normal DND behaviour.

Thanks for your reply! Indeed, it's pretty useless this way...
I'm running a custom ROM on my Poco F1, but as this phone is for my girlfriend I don't want to flash if not needed. She just use her phone very simply, and I think rooting is not neccessary for her. She don't has any benefits from it, except a nice working DND modus
Keep us posted in case you find a solution without flashing a custom rom

I will, but untill now there is no fix I guess...
One month ahead, maybe someone has a workaround?
Still nothing I'm afraid? DND mode is pretty useless now...
Hello OP!
I do not have solution for this problem, but I'm here to cheer you up, as I came to this thread facing the same problem on my Mi Mix 3. Unfortunately, it looks like we are the only two MIUI users who suffer from this feature. Hopefully there is third one in the world wide web who knows the workaround and share it with us.

Yeah, I think it's pretty strange that nobody cares about this, so maybe we are using it the wrong way. Anyway, I'm always in silent mode excluding for starred contacts. Maybe it will be solved in the future, we will see...
Take care!
I would check with the Xiaomi MIUI community forums to see if anyone's found a fix over there.
They're way more active with MIUI information vs XDA

What's your problem with rooting?
To use custom ROM you need open bootloader, have root... it's your choice, usually custom roms don't have root by default, who want can flash magisk package.
My wife using now phone with custom rom, without root. I changed the rom, because the phone is old, and don't get official update.
Other option can be to use alternative DND app, what you can configure as you wish.
Just posting to let you know that I have the same issue, and it is very annoying.
At least my Mi Band vibrates even on DND mode (which shouldn't happen, but lol right now it's good that it does because otherwise I'd have no way to tell that someone is calling). When sleeping, the watch detects it and also stop notifications. Which is also annoying, DND on the watch and on the phone should be in sync but that's just a perfect example of how very unperfect Xiaomi's ecosystem is.
I guess a "solution" could be to use "Silent" mode instead of DND and disable vibration? Didn't check if even possible, just a thought.
Using a Mi 9 with Miui 11.0.6...

How Xiaomi can destroy Android experinece so bad :( (is Oxygen OS Port possible??? )

Hi,
I've been using a native android OS for years (nexus phones and the last one Oneplus 3). Recently I bought Xiaomi Mi 9T, thinking it would be similar to Oneplus 7 Pro and Im having a bad experience using it.
I cant understand why they remove useful things that Google developed to make a better user experience.
For exemple:
Notificacions are awful in MIUI.
In lockscreen I cant expand them
When the display is unlock and I got a notificacion I cant expand the notification and read it directly, I have to wait or hide the notificacion (swiping up) and then swipe down to be able to expand it and read it.....
Audio Output
In my old phone I could have different devices connected via bluetooth, for exemple, an earpods, and if I wanted to show something to a friend I could change the output sound, and choose phone speakers, however I cant do it with MUIU, I have to disconnect the device to use the speakers..... WTF
I also dont like to have all apps in the screen, however I solved that with Nova Launcher.
Anyone know how to solve the previous problems? I would love to have Oxygen OS in this phone. It would be perfect. Thanks
Unlock your bootloader and flash any of the custom ROMs available right now! (Paranoid Android beta or Mokee rom(linneage base) there is also a OxygenOS GSI (treble) I wouldn't recommend that but you can give it a shot
Yeah, TWO problems are ruining android. Lol
I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy S7 and I agree with OP. One week using the Mi 9T and the struggle is real. Notifications are really messed up in MIUI. The auto brightness doesn't work right and sometimes when I manually change brightness the slider is not updated accordingly as I increase it. Also, the sound controls are just terrible. It's not, or at least it doesn't feel like, a polished UI/UX.
Haters gonna hate. Now imagine that if you would do any tampering with the OS you would lose the warrantee... BUT Xiaomi is so generous that they even provide a bootloader unlock function for us, unlike Samsung and Apple. They would take away your freedom of development if you would wander off their closed systems, so enjoy flashing and stuff. And I would highly suggest waiting for MIUI 11 it arrives in the coming days. Miui has been the longest player in the android skin game and the first and foremost product of xiaomi.

you mean like on Samsung you don't have use stupid accounts and give them your info just to be able to unlock the bootloader? the fact MIUI was one of the first skinned ROMs back in froyo means nothing, it's like saying Chrysler used to make great cars 40 years ago and therefore they MUST be considered great today, no matter the fact they are pure ****e.
i sell my mi9t and i order OP7Pro, and i hope i will not regret.
first if you unlock bootloader, and to root and. magisk, you have to partitions, so anytime you want something with twrp you have to do everything from begin, and there is also one problem with OP7Pro were phone shut down by himself, power button doesnt help, just if you boot in fastboot mode power on and vol+ in same time helps.
so dont know if OP is really such good user experience, same as stock android, never have seen such poor os as stock android.
Everything on my Mi 9T works well except notifications. Unlike other people I get a lot of it. On every notification the screen turns on even in silent mode. And I can't seem to turn off group notifications for whatsapp, I turn them off and after 2 minutes they turn back on again. Other than this the phone is great.
So the only problem I have with notifications is that they are not arriving while the phone is in deep sleep mode, and that's because miui kills internet connection - I get that they are trying to save battery that way but it just doesn't make sense to me to not be able to receive notifications while your phone is sitting idle. From what I've seen miui 9 and below had an option in settings>battery&performance to disable sleep mode - is there any way to do that on miui 10?

In developer options, there is an option all the way down, "MIUI optimization" something like that that is on by default. You can turn that off.
You can also go to app settings and turn off battery optimization for the apps you care about like instant messaging, mail etc.
