I rooted my moto G5 plus by traditional method, ie unlocking bootloader, then installing twrp recovery and then flashing magisk files
I had no problems with rooting and stuff, and I am still on stock ROM, Oreo 8.1.0. I haven't installed any custom roms.
Then I enabled camera2API using buid.prop app
I installed manual camera, open camera and few other cameras to try to shoot RAW images.
They are able to take raw .dng files but I am unable to open them either in photoshop or in few other image viewer.
It says: "The Original file appears to be unsupported or damaged."
So, I need help taking raw images which I can open and edit.
Google camera raw opens up. But GC won't work on 32 bit rom.
There is a 32-bit google camera port.
When shooting with hdr+ it will also save a .dng file that can be opened normally. It's not perfectly polished but works well. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78322212&postcount=116

Thank you. Google camera is so much better than stock camera app.
I did try HDR+ and RAW. It works pretty awesome.
I did notice that .dng file is only 0.3MP and resolution is much small, while I am shooting at full resolution... is this normal?
The size of dng file is 25MB and above (almost all the time)
It it normal with this Google camera?
Edit:
I copied the dng files in PC and tried to open them in Photoshop.
I am unable to edit them. I get error that file is not supported.
I do feel there is something wrong with the raw format.

That's odd, the gcam .dng files work perfectly fine for me in photoshop. The size is right, it should be about 25mb, and I think the resolution isn't reported accurately - when import them to photoshop they are 12MP as they should be.

Editing the exif file does the job.
Removed camera 1 and camera 2 calibrations and now I can open the raw dng files...
PS: Raw files will look completely washed out... It's your job to edit them using Photoshop or Lightroom, whichever you prefer.

5 mb? Do you mean 5 MP? Instead of low res try high res. The higher the resolution the better the picture the bigger the file size.
You are right of course, but again there's no reason for 5mp camera with hires profile to be 100kb-600kb in jpeg.
My canon eos-10D has 5mp and it's hires jpeg is at least 1.5mb.
Damn pictures are not even worse downloading. I prefer the IPad or IPhone 5mp camera, better.
Maybe it's your settings in Zune software.
Open Zune and go to settings --> phone --> pictures & videos and look for image quality. Make sure it is set to original.
I'm wondering if any one has a way to build the pano file from the 42 jpgs in the cache folder?
Received my Nexus 10 last week. I have taken several photospheres without a problem. The last one I took the tablet turned off before the pano file was saved. I'm including the session.meta file so you can see how far the process went before the tablet was powered off.
Session.meta:
first_photo_time,1354850339251
last_photo_time,1354850558961
source_photos_count,42
pose_heading,-7
Thanks in advance for any solutions!
Update and Storage Tip
I down loaded a trial version of PTGUI in an attempt to stitch together the files in the "panorama_sessions" folder. PTGUI is unable to create the panorama due to low contrast in the images - I took this at night of the lights at the Oakland Zoo known as Zoo Lights. Ned less to say several of the images had no detail at all so I"m pretty sure this is why it failed to make the photosphere.
While doing this research I have noticed that when you delete the photosphere from the Gallery viewer it does not delete the up to 42 photos in the corresponding "panorama_sessions" folder. Over time if you take a lot of photosphere images this could consume a significant amount of memory. Is this a bug that should be reported to the developers?
When I take pictures on my phone, they are some of the most amazing pictures I've seen on my life on a smartphone. The detail is outstanding, but when I upload them to sites, the pictures look very very very blurry.. Any suggestions?
How are you uploading them? If you're using some kind of built-in app then theres a (very) high possibility that it is JPEG compressing you're images/photos before upload, companies do this to save on bandwidth and server space.
For example, Google+ Photo Backup does this automatically (resize and compression) unless you specifically tell it not to.

When I send text, I use the text messaging app and when I upload them to Facebook, I use the Facebook app but I tried uploading it through WiFi and it's the same issue

Confirm that your uploaded pictures haven't been resized or reformatted. If they have, then disable the image processing in your app /website settings menu or use a different app to upload them.

There a numerous ways you might compare. Do they look the same?
For a start, download a photo (after it has been uploaded to your site) and compare it to the original with a file browser. Are both files the exact same size and dimensions (pixels)?

Ok I did that and no they're not, the apps are resizing it
Then set the app settings to a higher quality setting. Or use another app.
There is always a trade off between quality and file size. If you posting to a photography or other high end site, you may not want any changes to the image whatever.

Facebook resizes and compresses images upon upload. This is a well known fact.
If you go into the stock note 4 gallery and select a picture, from the toolbar at the top you can edit the image directly which is great. This is by far the easiest way to edit an image but for some reason you can only save the image as either 5mp or 8mp. Furthermore, the saved image has a vastly reduced file size so I'm wondering if more sacrifices have been made when compressing the image? Despite this the images look very good on close inspection - does anyone know if there are better alternatives for adjusting images, or should I keep on using this one?
I currently have the stock gallery and quickpic gallery installed on my phone. I noticed, in quickpic, that there is a folder called "alternate" in my camera folder on my sd card.
Looking at the photos in that folder it appears that these were photos that I took but they never made it to my camera folder or were deleted. They don't show up in the stock gallery.
Any ideas on why this folder exists and why they wouldn't make it to the camera folder?

I'm curious about that as well
HDR in Moto Camera
It seems if you enable HDR in the Moto Camera it creates a second version of the picture and stores it in "Alternate". It does not always create a second file, probably only it the two files differ significantly.
Jep
It does take an extra shot if auto HDR is enabled. The alternate photo is actually taken before you actually shoot. It's supposed to be a better picture.
Thanks
Anyway to disable this?
