I got my awesome new OnePlus 6T a couple weeks ago. I upgraded from a Nokia 6.1. Both have USB-C connectors.
After I got my Nokia 6.1 I bought about 6 various cheap USB-C charging cables to have as spares... in the office, cars, bathroom, kitchen, etc.
All of my cheap charging cables will charge my Nokia 6.1 but none of them will charge my OP6T.
I can charge my OP6T with the Nokia OEM cable and with the OnePlus OEM cable... why will none of my other cables charge the OP6T?? Are there wires missing out of cheap generic charging cables??
You can buy original from OnePlus or from Aliexpress, Gearbest, Geekbuy, Joybuy, Tomtop. The Dash charger & cable it's WORTH every penny!
On oneplus cost more, like 19 euro. On others 3-4 $
Beware of cheap cables without the proper 56k resistor in them. Improper use can damage the charger and device.
I've never used the factory cable with my 6T, but I've never used the DashCharger either. Do these cables not work with any charger / PCs?
It work, but why ? You'll never have Dash charge, that means Speed charging!
USE! the OEM cable only do not mix cables/brick as they're not meant for other devices, For example OnePlus Cable's do not follow Type C specification wouldn't advise using them on any other device.
I just looked through the box, and read the little user manual booklet, it says:
"connect the USB Type-C cable to the USB port on your device"
"Note: Fast charging can only be achieved by using the OnePlus original product USB cable and travel adapter"
Nowhere does it say that some USB-C cables don't work. And nowhere does it say to not use any other cables or chargers.
So, there is a 56Kohm resistor inside the cable? Is this only in OnePlus cables? What is the purpose of the resistor?
I just found this article, I think I understand now. Don't buy cheap USB-C cables!

I'm in the UK and want to save $20 on the charger
I have a couple of Micro USB wall chargers that i use on my blackberry. They will fit the N1 and plug straight into the wall. Would they be safe to use, to charge my N1. (These charges are rated 750mHA).
I know the N1 will be supplied with a micro USB cable. I also have an IPhone wall socket plug head, the ones where you just put the USB cable into the plug and then it goes into the wall. Are these safe to use too, for charging the N1?
Thanks
the Nexus one connector is standar microUSB and therefore will work with standard microUSB cables and chargers.
So there is no type of resistor or transformer in the official plug head? ... to restrict power. I thought there would be as my blackberry charger has a 750mha rating on it.
I can understand the USB cable will work as its a limited power output from a laptop port. But just wanted to check the official wall outlet plug current isn't being restricted. The last thing i want to do is fry my new N1.
Cheers,
Just plugged mine into my old nokia classic micro usb and it is charging fine
The specs for the wall charger are 5V and 1A.
http://www.htc.com/europe/product/nexusone/specification.html
do what i did. remove the charger from your basket and use the supplied USB with an old htc charger if you have one. If not get one for a few quid from ebay why spend $20 when you can get one for $5 odd from the market/ebay.
I can only speak anecdotally, but I used a Blackberry Storm charger and nothing exploded
this mini, micro, A B stuff is annoying. to clarify for my simple mind, will usb cables that fit into my G1 fit into the N1? or is it a different size?
Last year, Micro USB was decided as the open standard for cell phone chargers, so this should be replacing Mini USB as seen on earlier phones (BlackBerries, G1) in instances where the port isn't.. some.. proprietary crap.
Edit:

No. The G1 used Mini USB, this is Micro USB. The phone comes with a charger and USB (USB-A 2.0 to Micro USB 2.0) cable.
It's not propitary so it will work with any other charger.
It's a funny thing to find. It's too new to be widely available
I went looking for a car charger and a straight USB A->Micro B cable. The former I found by poking in all the packages for different phones until I found it (found a Samsung charger that uses it, although they did want nearly £30 for the damned thing). The USB A->Micro B I drew a blank - the more clueless salesmen tried to convince me that I was mistaken and I meant Mini!
I thought the blackberry used them but I looked in the pile of blackberry cables the local shops had and they were all mini. Even my local electronics store has every kind of USB imaginable *except* micro.
Edit: Found one! (might be useful for UK users). It's out of stock though... http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk/catalog/cables/USB-A-to-Micro-USB-B-Cable.html
Just so you guys know, not all micro USB's are the same. I bought a car charger from a local Tmo store last week (I forget what phones it was for), and although it "worked" when the plug was perfectly perpendicular to the phone, it had quite a bit of lateral play (which the OEM plug does not), meaning anytime it moved in the car, it would stop charging.
I returned it, and am now just waiting for HTC to decide to manufacture accessories for this ever increasing bundle of worry...
I am using a TomTom charger for my N1, also the HTC hero and the Motorola Droid chargers works to charge my N1.

Seems like it was just a poor quality charger. If it's a micro USB, it should be built to specific specifications. I already bought a few chargers (including a car charger) and cables (for work, home and travel), and they all work perfectly. Technically ALL micro USBs should be the same, unless the manufacturer didn't follow the standards.

Hah, just my luck; I pick up the one out of spec micro USB charger in the entire city!
Although, it must be that particular T-Mobile supplier, as I went to another store and test fitted the same charger, and it had excessive wiggle as well. Either that or my phone is just lame...
I just got a universal charger in Tesco for £5 that has changeable heads (Micro, Mini, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Nokia 2mm)
Works perfect
- The cable is standard USB. You can use it to charge the phone from your PC, or use another micro USB cable or charger you have
- The Nexus comes with a US 2 pin charger that is dual voltage - works in UK and US. Just spend 50p and get a US to UK convertor plug.
- The charger is rates 5v 1A, so if you have another microUSB charger with the same voltage use that.
I find charging from the charger results in more battery life than USB. The only explanation is charge rate because USB is 500mA and the charger is 1000mA
PS. I removed the UK charger from the order too. You get the US charger regardless in the box.
Just encountered slow charging problem, my phone charges about 9 hrs from 20% and just getting 75%, I checked at Ampere app, the input is just around 50-100mA+, I suspect the cable since my wall charger did charges perfectly with another device, or, buy a cheap alternative like xiaomi's type-c adapter, which costs more cheaply then buying the OP cable, which one should I pick? OP cable? or Xiaomi's type-c adapter?
Same here

I have same problem, 1-20% is also very slow here, ampere shows 33-350mA
I've been using the mivi type C cable and the charging speeds are great.
I bought a second hand Nexus 6p last week, without a charger. I ordered a charger and cable from amazon uk:
The charger: USB Type-C Charger, Tronsmart 27W Dual Port USB C Wall Charger for Nexus 5X/6P, S7, HTC 10, LG G5 and Other USB-C Phones and iPhone Android Device £13.55 ($17)
Cable: 'USB Type C Cable, CableCreation Super Speed Gen 2 (10Gbps) USB 3.1 Type C Male to Male Cable' which cost £11.99 ($15).
I could only get normal charging, no fast/rapid, so I ordered replacements of both as amazon prime allows free returns.
I ordered a iKits (CE/FCC Verified) 5V3A Type-C AC USB Wall Charger/Travel Charge, USB-C 15W for Macbook, Google Chromebook Pixel, Google Nexus 5X 6P & etc. Universal US AU UK EU Plug Adapter included Black, £10.99 ($14)
USB Type C Cable, CHOETECH Hi-speed USB-C to USB-C Cable 3.3ft(1m) for USB Type-C Devices Including LG G5, the new MacBook, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P. £4.99 ($6)
I tested with the original Tronsmart charger, but the new cable, the Choetech and wow, rapid/fast charging! The cable was half the price of my original choice, yet allows for greater charging speeds. I have today sent the Cable Creation cable back.
I will test the iKits charger tonight.
I find it helpful to have two chargers, especially since nothing else in my house uses USB C, and if one got stolen at work, I like to have a backup. I will keep you guys posted on the iKits.
I hope this helps anyone who needs a replacement charger for their 6P
NB: I am not sponsored, or paid, etc.. I struggled to find info on this myself and figured I can't be the only one.
update:
Both the Tronsmart and iKits charger fast/rapid charge my nexus. I returned the cable and got a cheap Tronsmart USB C cable and it works as well for fast/rapid charging.
So I now have two different brands, in my opinion affordable too, chargers and two different cheap USB C cables that all support fast charging. Very pleased.
Hope this helps!
thank you for the information, i was looking for alternative charger also.
As long as you stick with the better 3rf party stuff you will be OK. I am personally not a fan of Tronsmart, but Anker has yet to let me down.
Wireless charging has been around for a good few years now, and USB C are also popular for several years. Most of new USB C phones are coming with wireless charging capabilities. But most of popular wireless chargers are still micro ports so far.
Why are most of the wireless chargers still micro ports? It's because of different agreements. As most of QI wireless chargers are Qualcomm QC agreement, while most of USB C chargers use USB-IF Power Delivery agreement. If you use a PD USB C charger to charge a QC agreement wireless charger on a usb c phone, it will cause some incompatibility, overheating and charging instability.
It seems there is no good way to solve these problems now. I'm also expecting to use a better USB C wireless charger without any compatible and overheating issues. Because I almost cannot find any micro cables around me.
Is there any other inconvenience of using a micro wireless charger? When can we change to USB C wireless charging? Let's talk about this topic together.

Why does it really matter? In my experience, Micro USB cables are cheaper, and much easier to come by. I can walk into a gas station and buy one, but not USB-C.
Also, I have bought 3 wireless chargers since getting my S9. A stand up CHOETECH, the new panda pad they have, and a car mount by Iottie. All 3 have come with a cable. I also have dozens of micro usb cables from old devices.
While USB-C is the future, it's not mainstream. It's only really being offered in higher end devices. Until it's more standard, the cables are slightly more expensive because they aren't being as mass produced.
Is it more convenient? Sure. Will it replace Micro-Usb? Most likely. Until it becomes more standard on electronics as a whole, your likely going to see things like charging pads, Bluetooth headphones, etc still coming with micro usb. It's still the most used standard.
Keep in mind, USB-C is set to replace more than just micro usb. It can be used to replace Hdmi, and I think I read even networking cables (not that most people go wired anymore). It's already replacing power cords in MacBooks. It's truly a one cable to rule them all, but it's got years before it's done away with everything it can replace.
... I'm using the official Samsung wireless convertible charger, with a USB-C port.
The only issue I find with having a micro USB cable on the wireless charger is that you can't simply unplug it and plug it into your USB-c phone when you need to charge faster.

:good::good: You're right. USB-C is the future, but it's not mainstream now. We still need Micro cables somewhere.
Cost. It's not a selling point so it's not worth the extra $ to upgrade it to USB type-c. The convenience of type-c is the ability to put it in in any direction. A wireless charger doesn't get plugged back in and unplugged. A manufacturer like Samsung is going to have a huge surplus of type-c so it makes sense for them to use it because there's no point of having different types in stock. But for things you buy on Amazon most of those are made from the same factories in China who I'm sure have millions micro USB in stock. There's just no incentive. Doesn't really benefit anything other than the niche person that wants to plug it in to their phone. Most by 1, plugging in, put it wherever it's going to go like a nightstand and that's where it's going to sit until it dies lol.
Although their doesn't appear to be any problems with the charging, for some reason when i put my phone on charge [Using samsung fast charger 40W] it will play the charging vibration and notification multiple times before it stops, the most its happened to me is around 3 times, just wondering if this is normal or a charger/software problem
Assume its a USB-C to USB-C Samsung charger? I never had a good experience with Samsung chargers for any device that isn't Samsung. My last 2 Pixels (2XL & 4XL), before moving to Nothing 1 never charged off the Samsung chargers. I just tested a USB-A to USB-C Samsung block with a third party USB cable, and my Nothing 1 charged successfully, but it isn't a fast charge 40W USB-C one.
I think a while ago Samsung blocks weren't quite correct to match the USB-C standard so didn't work for most devices, but I may be wrong. That was a good few years ago though.
I would try a different USB cable first, just in case the USB-C cable isn't compatible. I have learnt the hard way some USB-C cables are charge only cables and don't work in "smarter" chargers as the internals of the cable are wrong. It's a long shot though.

I've tried the one provided by nothing, and the one that came with Samsung, it could be an os issue in which case I might flash the stock image then update
I have the same issue with samsung 25W charger.
Does anyone happen to know which charger would be best to buy for nothing phone?
So I use my old Google Pixel chargers. They work. The official nothing charger is probably the best one to use to be honest:
Nothing Phone (1) Power (45W) - Nothing (United Kingdom)
Fuel everything you need. Super fast, reliable 45W charging with PD3.0. With the official Phone (1) adaptor. Free shipping.

I also use this on my work desk so I can charge and watch things. There are probably better wireless chargers though:
NORDMÄRKE Wireless charging stand, bamboo - IKEA
NORDMÄRKE Wireless charging stand, bamboo Do you work from home and need to charge your phone easily – while using it – in your home office? This wireless charging stand with a bamboo base has a stylish look that blends in with your home decor.
