Well, I haven't tried this, I just want to know, if my idea would work or not.
So my idea is to combine Redmi 3S fastboot files with Redmi 4X fastboot files, because these two devices are very similar. So download fastboot files for both devices. From Redmi 4X files copy system.img to Redmi 3S folder. So overwrite the original system.img in 3S folder with the 4X one. Now in the Redmi 3S files edit flash_all.bat with Notepad++ and delete the line which flashes the recovery, and the one which reboots the device. Save the file and start flashing with MiFlash the modified Redmi 3S fastboot folder, with flash all option. When the flashing finishes, close MiFlash, on phone don't exit fastboot mode. With Minimal ADB and fastboot flash a TWRP to phone. (fastboot flash recovery twrp.img then fastboot boot twrp.img) In TWRP do a factory reset (don't wipe system), then flash a kernel for Nougat ROMs, whichever for Redmi 3S on XDA.
For updating ROM do the same steps, but modify the flash_all_except_data_storage.bat file, in MiFlash choose flash all except data and storage option, and don't do a factory reset in TWRP.
So my question is, how would this work? Would this brick my device or it would be buggy?

If configuration is same then it will definitely work
If by mistake any thing goes wrong u will be in soft brick u can easily flash the stock ROM.
Go for it

Maybe I try this later when I have time for it. But if I think harder, then if it would be that easy, the ported Nougat based MIUI 9 shouldn't have any bugs. (It's ported from Redmi 4X to Redmi 3S, camera isn't working.)

Salve! As you may know, Xiaomi enabled ARB (Anti-Roll Back) for Mi 6X starting with MIUI 10. It means that if you try to downgrade from MIUI 10 to MIUI 9, your device will enter in a brick EDL state and the only way to recover it is to send it to Xiaomi or flash it using MiFlash and an Authorized Account.
Yes, I am stupid and it happened to me.
Now, as I read here on XDA, there are some people who managed to brick their device by triggering the ARB when they converted the Mi A2 to Mi 6X to test MIUI. So if you flashed MIUI 10 and didn't deleted firmware-update from the .zip file, you triggered the ARB. If you tried to flash MIUI 9 or stock Mi A2 ROM, you managed to brick your device and it stays in an EDL state (Qualcomm 9008). You SIMPLY CANNOT rollback to Android One yet but you can revive your device very easy without test point or Mi Authorized Account.
Steps are simple. You just need to restore the device to the latest available MIUI 10 with a modified version of MiFlash by using wayne (Mi 6X) ROM with patched files in order to bypass the Unauthorized Account thing.
Keep in mind that your device will be MI 6X forever! Forget about Android One! If you want to revert back to stock Android, flash AEX or Pixel Experience.
1. Download MiFlashTool and Patched Programmer files: CLICK
2. Download latest Mi 6X MIUI Developer ROM: CLICK
3. Unzip all the files on your Desktop
4. Copy the Patched Programmer files to images folder of ROM
5. Start MiFlashTool, select the folder with your ROM (do NOT select images folder), on the bottom-right select flash_all
6. Plug the phone on your computer, hit refresh and flash fast!
7. Your phone will start flashing. When "success" appears, unplug your device, press the power button for about 15 seconds and boom, it's alive again!
8. If you want root or to flash another ROM, download the TWRP image from the folder above and type:
fastboot boot «drop here the TWRP image»
Once booted, copy the TWRP image to internal memory
In TWRP, go to Install -> Install Image -> Select TWRP image -> Recovery
Reboot -> Recovery
Since this device is no longer a Mi A2, we have now a standalone recovery partition. With ARB triggered, you can flash any ROM from TWRP (MIUI 10, Pixel Experience, AEX, Treble etc.). If you flash again MIUI 9, you will brick again your device.
If you found this tutorial helpful, hit that thanks button!

People that like the Look and Feel of MIUI. I would have bought the 6X but I need the bands supported by A2 only. I dont care about the Android One program, I will just stick with a "converted 6X" and use their Roms.

maybe you can help me so i have an A2, i started flashing the MIUI9 first but there was an error message: ACK count mismatch. Since then the phone is a brick. I can boot it but stuck on the MI logo, also i can boot to fastboot but neither way does the phone recognized by my and other computers. When the phone is turned of and i press the power button only once the led is blinking but if I plug it in to the computer it starts to boot and stuck at the MI logo. Is there any way to recover or should i return it to a service center? Sorry if it's an offtopic question but you are my only hope.

Boot the phone in EDL mode from fastboot (fastboot oem edl) and flash Mi A2 stock ROM. It should work.
after that and the cell phone resurrects, can this tutorial work?
https://en.miui.com/thread-3439864-1-1.html
No, it will brick again. Only if somebody makes a TWRP flash version for stock ROM.

The bootloader needs to be unlocked. (http://en.miui.com/unlock/)
You need fastboot from the latest platform-tools (at least, it MUST support fastbootd(userland fastboot)
What works and what does not
Not working:
Fingerprint
Hotspot
USB Tethering
Need patch:
VoLTE
MMS
Workaround exists:
Popup camera (workaround: https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/themes/app-xiaomi-motor-control-k20-pro-t3984181)
Working:
Everything else
Preparation
Flash V12.0.2.0 POCO F2 Pro firmware. I'm using V12.0.2.0.QJKEUXM. (I think V12.0.3.0 will work too. Just try it)
Note: If you are trying to update your base image of current treble installation and do not want to wipe out your userdata partition, do not flash userdata and cache partition
Download Treble GSI from here: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/releases. According to Phh treble experimentation wiki page, no treble image except AOSP works on POCO F2 Pro. You can try another image but do not expect much luck. (If you found working image, please report it here or update wiki page)
Since POCO F2 Pro is a "system-as-root" device, You have to download system-quack-arm64-ab-whatever you want.img.xz(AB image), NOT A only image. Extract it with an appropriate program. (If you don't know what tool to use, just use 7zip)
Flashing GSI
If you are unsure, read Phh-treble wiki page
copy fastboot from the platform-tools and vbmeta.img and recovery.img from the stock firmware into the current working directory and follow instructions below:
Run the following command to remove system image verification.
Code:
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
If you are using wzsx150's unofficial TWRP, flash stock recovery. We need stock userland fastboot.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Now, boot into userland fastboot.
Code:
fastboot reboot fastboot
Note: if this does not work, please install fastboot driver using this tool: https://github.com/fawazahmed0/Latest-adb-fastboot-installer-for-windows/
Mac and Linux do not require driver installation. If you encounter this error on Mac or Linux, please check USB device permission is alright. (VID = 0x0000, PID = 0x4ee0)
Flash GSI using userland fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash system system-quack-arm64-ab-[I]whatever you downloaded[/I].img
If you are switching ROM, not upgrading, erase userdata
Code:
fastboot -w
fastboot format cache
Now, reboot into fresh GSI installation.
Code:
fastboot reboot
Fix MMS and enabling VoLTE
Install Magisk using the official instruction
Download and flash VoLTE Fix through Magisk manager https://github.com/perillamint/magisk-volte-fix/releases/tag/v0.0.3
Note that VoLTE will only work when
You only have one SIM and supports VoLTE
You have two SIM and both of them supports VoLTE
Headphone jack fix:
Enable following options in settings:
Phh Treble Settings > Qualcomm features > Use alternate audio policy
Phh Treble Settings > Misc features > Disable audio effects
and reboot
Thanks great work!
Can somebody maybe share recovery.img?
Can someone confirm this is working?

Could you open Windows device manager and check status of device called Lmi? (USB VID = 0x0000, PID = 0x4ee0)

Try setting current camera position through app's menu button ( set cam out, set cam in)
Front camera is working, you need to set position every time in 3 dot menu. Otherwise I think is pretty stable. I install gcam and also works... Fingerprint is not working.
Somebody should make flashable zip of this rom via twrp.

Hi everyone,
I've been trying to prep my phone in readiness to flash a custom rom and got this far:
Ensured latest firmware is installed
Unlock bootloader
ADB and Fastboot prep
Flash and boot twrp-3.5.2-andromeda.img
Full backup taken in TWRP
However, whist trying to use ADB sideload to move the amaneded vbmeta.img file onto my phone it glitched out. Now my phone will go into Fastboot (when pressing 'volume down' button and 'power' button), or if I don't intervene the Mi-Recovery 3.0 screen.
When in Fastboot the command "adb device" on my PC in command prompt no longer works:
Before:
List of devices attached
7586a90b device
After:
List of devices attached
So I can't flash anything to it via ADB.
If I choose reboot in Mi-Recovery 3.0 the phone restarts and I just get stuck in a loop.
Can anyone provide some advice on what I can do next to try and recover my device, please?
Cheers,
fitzy-boy
