Verizon Galaxy S5 strip for GPS/Wifi only - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any advise/ideas on a stripped down rom (and root/bootloader instruction link), would be greatly appreciated.
Looking for as stripped down as possible, so the phone/messaging functionality is gone (and doesn't interfere/complain). Looking to use it as a stand alone GPS unit, and maybe a few wifi apps, and that's it.

Regarding a "Debloat" way for removing the Phone, SMS, MMS, etc... functions...
This is not possible because of the dependencies associated with them and the various other functions.
This question would probably be best asked on the following thread.

Best Stable ROM w / Full Exchange Support

Hello All, I am considering purchasing a MyTouch 3G but need full Exchange Support. Which ROM out there is my best choice? It needs to be stable for day to day use with Bluetooth and WiFi working. Any recommendations would be greatly appriciated. Otherwise, I may end up going with the Touch Pro 2. Thanks.
I use this one, it's superb

Hello All, I am considering if you even tryed to use the search there should plenty of info about this around.
Further more i wonder if you even tryed to read the sticky topic "Please dont start a new thread if something like this happens"
Q- Which ROM is best for me/ Which ROM is the best for 32A/B?
A- Take some time on the forums, look at the ROMs available for your device and individually assess what works for you by reading the various issues affecting them and make a decision. If that still doesn't work out for you, hey, that's what makes XDA great, try a different one and so on, till you find one that YOU'RE happy with. It's very subjective since what my needs are could be totally different from what yours are.
There ya go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555499
Edit: reported for being a noob creating an profile and posting his first question in the wrong category without even reading the rules or trying to make a search on the subject!
Wrong forum section dude, try general instead. Thread has been reported.
MOD EDIT
Moved to general forum. In future please try and post in correct forum.
HINT - For example in your case, ask yourself is your query about themes, software, games, android development etc. No its not, so post in general.
First, sorry about posting in the wrong thread. I thought a question about rom's would go in the rom's forum, guess I was wrong.
Second, I have spent time, a LOT of time, searching the forums regarding which rom to use. I was hoping to get feedback from other people that have been using them in regards to my specific requests - Exchange, WiFi and Bluetooth. Honestly, the forums get really confusing with the multiple names the devices have, the cross device porting and such. It is not a simple task to find a ROM with XYZ. Plus the forums do not always state what does work. I was just looking for some feedback before sinking a couple hundred bucks on a phone. Sorry for being a noob.
_Belial, thank you for your recommendation.

Well i guess many people using xda started to get frustrated and annoyed about how hard it can be to find what you seek. But one of the reasons for it is that things started to get messy cause of to many topics concerning the same problems/solutions.
We all been new around here once and we can all make mistakes so no hard feeling. At least we have some good moderators trying to get things in there right places
i think the question about full exchange support is a valid one.
there are many roms out there that support exchange, but they only support email, not calendar and contacts, and the change log doesn't always reflect this.

Thread suggestion

Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to have threads that deals with certain specific issues, application or instructions & solutions.
This will:
1. Help to avoid clutter or repeated questions in the forum
2. Make it easier for users to navigate and look for help/solutions
Perhaps these suggestions might give some ideas:
1. App2SD thread (how tos, common problems & troubleshooting)
2. Suspicious applications (known questionable apps)
3. Google Maps thread (just an example of an app thread that might prove useful to those looking for information/solutions regarding Google Maps)
If this sounds promising, I'll be happy to help however I can. But please note that I'm a noob, so I can only lend a hand in compliling or other stuffs
If this sounds silly or can't be bothered with, then kindly ignore this. Thanks!
I like the idea when was first trying to get through rooting and flashing my phone I found all kinds of threads with different methods and it was kind of confusing. The stickiest do help out though. More subsections could help out imo.

Comprehensive source of rooting info?

Is there a FAQ somewhere that comprehensively covers most of what's involved as a part of rooting the Nexus 7? Or rooting any Android device that would cover the N7? I do dev, but am new to Android.
I'm not even referring to the actual rooting process. Info for that's all over the net. My questions are more along the lines of things like:
What exactly does it mean when people say that rooting will erase the drive? Somehow, I think that's probably exaggerated. Does it really all but reformat? Does it leave the OS intact, other than unlocking and rooting and just wipe out the apps I've installed and my settings and data? Or whatever happens.
Do I have to literally reinstall all my apps from Play or wherever? Or can I copy to a computer and just copy it back again after rooting?
If the rooting process deletes all my apps, this has no effect on what Play lists as "My Android Apps," does it?
Given these questions, what's the state of the device right after I finish rooting? Is it display sort of what it was out of the box?
If I need warranty service and unroot, would Google know at a glance that it had ever been rooted? What restores it to its original state? Doesn't unrooting just remove root access and lock the device?
I'm not here to ask about this ROM or that, but why use another ROM? Would that completely replace Jelly Bean? If it does, how to I get back to Jelly Bean?
Does the Nexus Root Toolkit work on Windows XP? (I have that and a Mac. I’m running the Win 8 preview in a Virtual Box VM, but getting it to consistently recognize the N7 has been problematic. On the Mac, the Android file manager tends to drift in and out. It's possible that I have issues with my N7 USB port.)
I realize there are all noob questions, but that's where I am. I'm sure I could come up with plenty more and I'm sure plenty of others have and have had similar questions. But most of the answers I'm finding don't address nuances, they're just black and white, sweeping terms that don't really get where I'm looking to go.
I'd appreciate answers to these questions or pointers to good places to find out without having to wade through dozens of topics hoping to find some piece of what I want to know.
I might be able to answer some of your questions, give me a pm and I would love to answer them (it would be hard to put them all in a post)

I posted this a while back. It should be a pretty good hub of information.
Hope that helps! If you have any other questions that this doesn't answer - either ask here or check google. Just make sure you read everything you possibly can - the more knowledge the better.
Lots of stuff there. Thanks. I'll take a good look.

Root Access

Apparently I can't post in developer threads and I don't have time to make 10 posts right now so this is going here. I have a rooted s5 and there are a couple of things I would like to do that I have been unable to figure out thus far.
1) I use google hangouts, unlike messaging, hangouts doesn't show text messages on your lock screen. Has anyone been able to find a way to make hangouts do that as of yet? If so, how?
2) Has anyone been able to give the fingerprint scanner a better lockout feature? The scanner can be iffy at times and I hate being locked out from doing anything for 30 seconds every time I screw it up. I'm looking to get it to do more like apple, where after a certain number of attempts you have to enter your password.
Thanks guys

I will try to answer your questions:
1. I don't think hangouts can do that. Try using lockscreen notification apps like Dashnotifier.
2. Fingerprint sensor acts weird sometimes. You have to bear with it. Although an update to lollipop will make it quite better
Give a thanks if I have helped you!

This doesn't belong in development sections. It belongs in Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting. FYI. :good:
I believe it fits in developers means neither of these are options to change and I would like to use root access to change the code in the phone to allow it.

it does not, your asking a question so it belongs in O&A section
You're not allowed to discuss development of apps and functions in the developers section? That's strange.

Yea "Discuss" development
If you have a Question, you ask in the Q&A forum
There is a big difference between discussing something, and asking questions
"Discuss" = Understand, converse, and help with
"Question" = Do not understand, and can not help with, thus, needs to be in Q&A

Ok, let's try it this way. I do understand. But if somebody has made something to change these features there is no reason for me to do anything. If not, I would like to discuss possible options on how to do this. Does this work for you? Or are you going to continue to argue this?

I think you need to wind your neck in kiddo, new to the forums and talking back to senior members will not do you any favours,
Now, you were wrong, you were corrected, accept it and man up by moving on, stop acting like a child by trying to have the last word
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340983
Only the following topics are allowed in DEVELOPMENT area:
[DEV] - Development for any special projects or Apps
[ROM] - Custom ROMs
[KERNEL] - Custom Kernels (usually found in Original Development)
[MOD] - Hack & Modifications for the phone with code only, zips go in themes and apps
[FIX] - Fixes for known issues & bugs
[R&D] - Research & Development for Devs only, when gathering data for a new projects
[HOWTO] / [GUIDE] - How to instructions and Guides (Most of the time should be in General)

All I am trying to say is that I think this fits in developers section, actually under that mod section you just quoted. I would like to edit the code of this phone to allow me to have these features.
And I would appreciate it if you didn't treat every new member on here like some bumbling idiot. 'accept it and man up by moving on, stop acting like a child by trying to have the last word.' Considering the last post's definition of posts for the developer's section had exactly what this post is intended to be under "mod" I'm just pointing out that it fits there.
We've had a reasonable answer to the questions at post one, given in post two.
The conversation has moved on to what is appropriate to post in "development" forums and this can't really go anywhere as both sides have made their cases known very clearly.
For the record, the current position is that Development forums are mainly for development that has actually started and developers are involved, it is not for discusion of hypothetical development and "wouldn't it be nice if...." type discussions. Occasionally developers might discuss a matter in advance of more detailed scripting/coding, but for it to go in "development" it would need to be a developer level technical discussion not a wish list of things in the hope a developer might get involved.

Are G900T really able to make phone calls in France?

Hello,
My title is a bit misleading since I have already successfully had phone calls on a G900T on the Free network. However, it's very unreliable and most of the times my calls don't go through: I just get a hangup after 1 minute, and didn't even get a dialtone.
Is there anything I can do to make it better? I'm not on stock ROM anymore but on crDroid 4.6.1 (latest version available in the "Unified Development" section). I have enabled all bandwidths in the settings ("Preferred network type" is LTE/DSCDMA/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA). I have this for baseband: G900TUVU1GQC2) and kernel is Linux 3.4.113-lineageos-g0ed263d.
Thanks for any help/info!

This is a tough question since the device is, in general, compatible with the French Network Provider but, it looks like the device is lacking on a very small band of frequencies for the Free Network.
Though it's always "encouraged" for the use of the SM-G900F (International Variant) since it has a much broader frequency range across the board.
I did locate the following link that reflects the same/similar question as yours. It may be a few years old but, the information, in general, should still be relevant today.
https://forums.androidcentral.com/s...-galaxy-s5-model-should-i-purchase-where.html
This is the best I can help you with but, I do hope that it is helpful and maybe someone here can provide you with something a bit more helpful.
You can always try to obtain some member guidance within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device and variants.
