I recently got a galaxy tab and thought it would make a great interface for playing music at home.
Most of my music is on my PC and i manage to access it via cifs and it plays fine over WiFI.
I also have a home cinema system that will accept music via bluetooth, so If i have music stored on the tablet it comes out the home cinema speakers great.
Now my problem is that when I use the tablet to play music via the WiFI and bluetooth simultaniously it cuts out and stutters.
Futher reading shows that bluetooth operates over similar frequency range 2.4ghz as wifi. But unlike wifi it has no channel but hops over all channels all the time. so it not possible to select different channels to avoid the interfearance. This I think is my problem.
The Tablet does have the option for 5ghz but sadly my N router is only 2.4 and not dual channel, so i was wondering if anyone has experiance of this or thinks that moving to a dual band router will benefit me?
Thanks
Grab "wifi analyzer" from the market and post back your signal strength in dbm where the connection drops out.
I personally had a wall in my house that seriously impaired the wireless signal so I purchased 2 homeplugs, I guess you're in the states so
http://www.google.com/products/cata...X&ei=DhPiTsHsI4SE8gOB_b2HBA&ved=0CIoBEPMCMAE#
Then a cheap access point where you want the boosted signal
http://www.google.com/products/cata...X&ei=VRPiTsDXJNGm8gPIhaWDBA&ved=0CKsBEPMCMAM#
Wifi analyser show the signa almost at max (-40bd) though it does drop down when the music cuts out (down to -50 which is still in the green band)
I tried moving the router / sound system and tablet into the same room to eliminate signal loss due to obstructions like walls but still the problem persists.
I think either the chipset in the Galaxy tablet cannot cope with the bandwidth requirement of recieving a music stream via wifi and simultaiously outputing it via bluetooth or that the wifi and bluetooth are interfering with eachother.
Any ideas how i could determin if either of these is the cause?
thanks
rumple
With that sort of signal it does seem rather strange, a new router almost certainly wouldn't sort that out at that signal level.
Music streams usually have very low bandwidth requirements like KB/s
I would say the issue is quite probably on the bluetooth side of it.
Perhaps try changing the channel of the wireless in your router, beyond that... maybe someone else has an opinion
Bluetooth operates on a different frequency it wouldn't be interfering with the wifi signal especially on a 5ghz spectrum.

Wikipedia
Bluetooth uses a radio technology called frequency-hopping spread spectrum, which chops up the data being sent and transmits chunks of it on up to 79 bands (1 MHz each; centered from 2402 to 2480 MHz) in the range 2,400-2,483.5 MHz (allowing for guard bands). This range is in the globally unlicensed Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) 2.4 GHz short-range radio frequency band.
And he's using 2.4ghz Wifi
Unlikely that is the problem but worth ruling out no?
I don't think its the amount of bandwidth from the music, I tried running even irc on wifi then using Bluetooth keyboard and it cuts out wifi, however on cell data it works fine. Also I have a dual band router and got the same effect

Any chance you could force your router to 5ghz only and test again to see if the bluetooth causes the same interfearance?
Thanks
A little update on this,
I set my phone up the same way setup my table to see if the results are the same using a different device.
So music stored elsewhere in the house and streamed to the phone, and the phone transmits the music via bluetooth to the speakers.
Same problem occurs, and according to wifi analyser the wifi is strong, its the bluetooth which is having the problem.
Which leads me to believe that Bluetooth A2DP already pushes the bluetooth close to its limit and the added WiFi noise causes enough interfearance to cause the stutering music.
And this may be the case, as moving the phone or tablet right next to the bluetooth reciever on the speaker causes perfect playback.
At this point I am unsure how to go about remedying the situation, my options seem to be :
A: try to get a router that supports 5ghz and hope moving the WiFi bandwidth to a higher frequency alleviates the diruption to the bluetooth
B: try to find a DLNA based reciever for my music instead of using bluetooth.
C: open to suggestions :s
aka "Bluetooth kills WiFi"
google nexus 4 4.2.2
Build number JDQ39
When WiFi is turned on, AND CONNECTED, and I make a call using Bluetooth device the connection starts cutting. The WiFi icon in the notification bar disappears then appears again, the radio icon starts connecting/swapping between to 3G or H also the 3G/H icon changes from blue to gray, during this time the connection drops.
If the WiFi is off everything works normally. I talked to Google but no help there, it's like the first time they hear of Bluetooth issues.
The issue is same with stock ROM or AOKP built 5 on NEXUS 4
However, I use the same Bluetooth, voyager-pro hd+, with galaxy nexus 4.2.2 build jdq39 and I have no issues with it. not rooted, stock ROM
Any ideas or fix. If it was something to do with rooting or custom ROM why it was not fixed after I restored it to stock ROM? and why no issues using it on galaxy nexus having the exact same software?
Edit: just tried this on 2nd brand new nexus 4 in our household, not rooted or modified in any way, same issue
OK. THAT'S KNOWN ISSUE https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=41631
Google Issue 41631
BLUETOOTH not WORKING WHEN WIFI is TURNED ON
I'm having the same issue. Bluetooth and wifi do not play nice. Not sure if its a software or hardware bug.

Pulled a Linksys E2500 5GHz router I wasn't using out of the closet, and disabled the onboard routing crap on the uverse 2wire router. Nexus plays nice with bluetooth at home now, even in 2.4GHz mode. Gave me a reason to stop using the uverse crap, but it's still kind of annoying that the N4 is so finicky with wifi. I'll stick it out!
meh, I am returning mine and sticking to my old galaxy nexus. I need bluetooth ON and WiFi ON all the time
will buy it again if fixed or just get n5

Do you listen to music only? Do you try to call someone and have productive conversation over the Bluetooth, while WiFi is ON and connected? If the WiFi is ON but connected the problem is not that bad.
I tried with two devices at home, then called a friend, that lives 1000 miles away, with N4. same results. Total of three independent devices tested.
I am using Plantronics Voyager HD+, one of the best headsets out there.

I use my bluetooth for everything.. And works fine:good:
This happens on my N7 running 4.2.2. I have been using a MOGA controller and a Motorola S10 headset.
Everything with work for about 15 min then my network will disappear. When I go into WiFi, it shows no available networks, even though there are like 15 near me.
The only way to reconnect is to disable Bluetooth. Networks immediately show back up and reconnect. Then I can reenable Bluetooth and continue.
I had this issue with MOGA controller originally and wrote them. They said it is an issue with the N7 and N4 and to disable WiFi when playing games. I tested and the controller is perfect with WiFi off.
Streaming Netflix while paired to wireless headset works for about 15 and then quits. I have to toggle Bluetooth to get another 15 min out of it.
Yeah. My N4's been dropping wifi when bluetooth is in use ever since I got the thing. Got tasker to turn wifi off when bluetooth is connected, and vice-versa... Sad I can't use both. Nice to have a 5GB data plan. Comes in handy. But still, should not need to work around it.

I can't even get my N4 to connect to the bluetooth in my car if wifi is turned on. It's supremely annoying. Combined with the not being able to turn bluetooth off (because you can't turn it back on without a reboot usually) it's making me hate this phone.
Anyone else have bluetooth connectivity issues with wifi on?

Tasker - a great solution.
Wish Google/LG fixed this already.
BT/WiFi collisions are a pain in the ass for mobile device engineers. But that's no excuse for Google to sign off on this product with such a bug.
Have excatly the same issue with my N7. According to where I bought it it's a known issue but you can't RMA it since it's a workaround (do not use BT and WiFi at the same time).
It's crap cause I bought the tablet to get rid of cables and use to control my music. Now I first have to download by WiFi and then turn it off to use BT to control my receiver.

If memory serves, Google has actually said this is working as intended and won't be fixed.
wait, so then can someone explain to me how I can stream Pandora over wifi through my Jambox? Is that not possible?
So, anyone got a solution? This is making me very angry!

Yes, the problem in the united states is with AT&T wifi router. So for people in the USA if you have att router or live in area where you have apartment complexes etc and suspect they use ATT you will have a problem. The solution is to go to WiFI settings > Advanced and choose 5G only. DO NOT use "auto" or "2.4G" option. This solves the problem. In other countries would be some other router problem. the WiFi chip on N4 does not play well with some routers around when operates at all frequencies.
That's why the confusion. some people say "all works fine" other reporting problem not suspicion they have ATT router or live near residency with one.
If you rely on wifi mostly and no 5g option then no solution.
Has nothing to do with ATT router.
I have a WNDR3700 and it happens to me on my N4 and N7's when at 2.4ghz (you can see the (dis)conntects)- moving to 5gig solves it but I loose a lot of range... (Just watch your signal meter when you are steaming over net/BT and switch between 2 and 5g - you will see the difference in behavior)
It's a Qualcomm driver issue that has not been fixed - boo on LG and Google for allowing this to get into their flagship devices and leaving it in this state for so long...
I should fire up my old N1 to stream music... Shame...
I have the same issue. I have a nexus 4 stock 4.3 rooted and if I have the wifi on and connected, when I make a call with my Jawbone Era headset I can't listen well the other person. His voice has a lot of pauses. When I turn off wifi everything is OK. This is very annoying.
HI guys, after months of finding good rom and kernel for my device, I have settled on extreme kernel and LR Pie.
But I found out one rather depressing issue - if I have BT turned on and my mi band 2 connected to phone while using wifi connection, the wifi is significatnly slower...
I dounf that the reason for that should be freqs interfering - both BT and Wifi operate on 2,4Ghz...
Is there any possible fix for that ? anyone other having this experience as well ?
Thx for any tips and suggestions
Hope we can solve this somehow
Hello
So after doing some tests I could verify that...
If you are connected to a Bluetooth device, the wi-fi speed is very much slower.?
Can you do a Speedtest before and after Bluetooth connection with some device...
( I used mi band 3 and a headset to do the tests )
Can you see the difference?? ?
Is there a solution to this??
I can confirm this running Android Pie December's patch. I am using Mi Band 2 and in PUBG Mobile delay is raised from 50ms to 250ms. Turning off Bluetooth solves that instantly.
If you disable GPS (location) speed is a bit better.
only solution is to get 5ghz router(or disable BT while you surfing on the wifi), BT and 2.4 ghz wi-fi are working at about the same frequency

I use WiFi 2,4 ghz AND bluetooth (miband3) all the time on. I use Macrodroid (or automate or tasker) for disabling location (GPS) when I'm connected to my home WiFi so I get full speed WiFi and I can receive notifications from my band.

Is this the case to all devices with similar hardware or is a issue with the Rom programming that makes this use of the same band?
I say it because there's maybe a way to fix this via custom roms, im tired of not being able to watch streams and use my wireless earbuds at the same time....
I have the same similar problem...
When I use my mi band 3 ( Bluetooth watch )
The internet speed is very slow
So, i tried testing the speeds and i found that it's random the type of problem that i got.
In my case im using Apple's Airpods gen 1
- most of the time i have slow or non working wifi connection (tested with youtube and twitch apps) and videos will only load at 144p (at this point is better to not use bluetooth or not watch the video)
- other times videos will not even load
- sometimes the Bluetooth earbuds will start to connect and disconnected continuously and the only way to fix this is turning off Bluetooth and reconnecting again to Bluetooth
- sometimes all problems are fixed in that way but also internet connection becomes a bit sluggish and phone heats up
- sometimes when no audio is playing for a certain time earbuds reconnect but this is maybe a battery saving method in the earbuds themselves
- its literally impossible to watch videos with Bluetooth connected and via wifi if you have a thin wall between you and the router, i live in a small house and being in any room except the one with the router will render video playback impossible.
I think this is more than a wifi - Bluetooth band issue and more of a software issue the more i test this issues
Is there a way or can someone contact Xiaomi to fix this issue? I really feel that this have gone worse since PIE update...
I beginning to think that the problem is the phone hardware, for what I have seen mi A1 uses the same antenna to Bluetooth/ WiFi/ Data
That's why we have this problem of speed...
In other phones, this functions are separated by others antenna...
That's what I think...
Rate this thread to express how you think the Redmi Note 8's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
i have wifi bluetooth interference issue . wifi become super slow when connected to Bluetooth speaker
Using xcloud with Bluetooth adapter and wifi, xcloud is very slow. Using 4G is fine so suspect the same issue with Bluetooth and wifi interference, although on 5GHz wifi.
Me too.
Also WiFi Hotspot is very instable if Bluetooth activated.
Although the bluetooth is disabled, the wifi speed is very slow.
Redmi Note 8 has the worst wifi speed that I have seen in a smartphone ?
Can someone compare the wifi strength with another phone using an app like wifi analyzer? It would be very useful for those who are interested buying this phone like me.
hello;
I share with you the solution of the problem related to wifi (when Bluetooth is activated).
there is a setting to deactivate in the authorizations of the applications which uses Bluetooth (uncheck authorization to cut the wifi by a Bluetooth application (airpods, mi fit .... etc).
the software gives priority to a Bluetooth application instead of wifi, you have to look for this application that uses Bluetooth and go to the settings to deactivate the authorization who cut the wifi / slow down
settings
authorization
other authorization
scroll down to the application who use the bluetooth (airpod, mi fit,........)
uncheck: change wifi connectivity authorization.

the wifi / bluetooth problem is caused by this option in the settings.
bleutooth has priority over wifi; just deactivate in authorizations
therefore, the wifi download speed problem is caused by the software

but does it impact the performance of either the bluetooth or the wifi?
for example, does the bluetooth become unstable instead of the wifi?
I'm 100% sure that the wifi range is worse compared to redmi note 4x. Where the RN4x mido fared without problems, the RN8 ginko loses signal... Miui 11.

Where in the settings is this in? The only menu I can find regarding "Authorization" is "Authorization and revocation" which has essential applications of the phone.

Alrighty thanks. I did that and the WiFi is still just as bad :\
I came here looking for slow wifi speed solution. Now i am pretty sure this phone has some different wifi problem..
I get slow speed. Not always but at random times speed drops very low. Like 2 3 mbps.. i have fiber connection.
Secondly i also agree the bluetooth problem. I also noticed noticiably drop in speed while bluetooth in connected. Its not a problem with other 2ghz devices. U gt 1 2 mbps which is too slow.
I hope some update resolves this.
Whoever is facing please report this bug from the service and feedback app in the phone.i have done.
Just writing here wont solve.

That just looks like you're connected to 5Ghz WiFi on the Pad. 72Mbps link speed is common for most phones on 2.4Ghz WiFi (without any channel bonding/dual spatial streams/MIMO). And even on 72Mbps link speed you can get around 4MBps data rate easy.
Not good at all, this phone looses signal in places I never had problems before...
