I have a Note 9 SM-N960W and have found a few different ways of doing screenshots. Method 1... Palm swipe is annoying, method 2... power + vol down is hard to time and triggers volume sliders that ruin the screenshot, and method 3... there is a screenshot option in the edge pannel and also smart select.
The Problem with all these is the edge pannel Handel always shows on the resulting image. Is there an easy way to somehow use the built in screenshot app/apk maybe through an activities manager shortcut?
Right now I'm using Button Mapper and have disabled edge pannel but would love a quick & easy way to capture the full screen, no adb, and no edge pannels or palm swipes because they are just annoying! Any helpful suggestions or ideas? I've tried all I could find.

You can try installing standalone apk NavStar (Samsung) from ApkMirror website.
Then download free app "Activity Manager" app
from Play store.
Open Activity Manager, search for NavStar, tap on NavStar and another window will open.
You will see two options.
First option, tap 3 dot menu and create shortcut for
NavStar to configure it, as NavStar
won't show in your app drawer.
NavStar is part of Samsung, Good Lock 2018 app.
However Good Lock 2018 is not available for some markets /users
With NavStar you can customize your navigation bar
to choose your own selection from options available.
You can choose "screenshot" etc.
See attached
You don't have to do any ADB /root/etc
It's a straight forward "sideload /install manually"
app.
Safe, no issues.

I use Buttonmapper to set "single tap" volume down for screen shots. Works perfect..
I use an app called "Softkey Edge App". It's an app panel that you slide out from the side like other edge apps and it has several shortcut keys, screenshot is one of them.
Nice thing is, it takes the screenshot WITHOUT the edge panel, so you actually get what you want.
You can find it on the Samsung App Store.
4 option Will be " Hi! Bixby" take a screen shot
---------- Post added at 10:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:34 PM ----------
5 will be using Good lock 2018 and on the NavStar add the option for screen shot
depends if you want to save a screenshot or just share it to someone.
When sharing a screenshot (which I don't necessarily want to keep), I'll hold the home button to trigger google assistant. Then just send a screenshot from there. Nice and simple and no messing with buttons.
Hold Bixby button and say "Take screenshot" ...
Works brilliantly...
Thanks everyone, some great ideas! I decided to go with button Mapper because I don't use edge pannel, I hate the handle showing on my screenshots even though it is transparent to a certain degree. Button mapper takes the screenshot basically instantly and there are no icons or any sort of idea that an extra app is being used. The only downside is my phone is not rooted so I cannot reboot without having to run ADB Commands again, but no biggie since my phone is always on. Thanks for all the help full suggestions everyone!!!

I was just reading about webOS and how good its interface is when dealing with multi-tasking and I realised how poor androids multi-tasking interface is. The only way I know to switch between running apps is to hold home button for a few seconds...
I personally think this can be improved by having thumbnails of open apps popup when the home button is single pressed on a home screen. Just as at the moment previews of all the home screens popup I think this should be switched with open app previews. I rarely ever use the home screen preview thing so i think its wasted, but I definitely would use app selector if little thumbnails showed.
Anybody have any thoughts on this? Im not a developer so I have no idea if this is possible but I think it would be a good feature to add and improve android. Do any devs think they can implement this??
Moved to general as not ROM development.
This would be a feature for a launcher app, so might be worth suggesting to someone like Fede who develops Launcher Pro, or cyanogenmod people that make ADW?
yes you are right. thanks. I was too lazy to find the relevant section to post under. will try contacting anderweb. or fede.
There are a couple of apps which overlays a screen on top of the current app you are in by tapping home twice, you can then open apps/access widgets without having to go back to homescreen first.
Currently im using 'smart taskbar', you can set the activation mode to be (1) tapping on a half-circle spot on either side of your screen or (2) swiping from one side to another. You can then open from a list of 5 'pinned' apps or choose from the mini apps drawer below, or click a tab called 'running' which seems the same as the current holding on home button behavior.
check out power strip. allows you to get a popup window where ever you are by doubble tapping home button (ore long press search button). there you can have quick access to widgets, shortcuts etc. really cool.

Here is the temp fix guys the problem is a lot of apps detect if there is a hardware menu button and omit showing the soft 3 dot button common in a lot of apps. The S5 has no dedicated menu button but it does have the long press home button option to launch the More options/Menu button, however out Galaxy S6 models do not have this option. BUT some apps still detect it and delete their in app button.
Here is the fix I figured out that works in this situation and it would be good to pass this on or write up a document.
Go to phone settings => Accessibility => Dexterity and interaction => Assistant Menu.
At the top right slide the off button to on to enable the Assistant menu icon on all screens. Then click on the Edit option. In the edit menu deselect all the buttons you do not need by hitting the red negative on the icons (-) in the upper part of the screen. (note it has two buttons that you cannot remove Home Screen, and Menu Settings) on the bottom half of the page hit the green plus sign (+) on the More Options button (It has 3 dots). (note there are lots of other buttons you can add)
Now on all screens is a little round button with 4 dots on it, it appears on all screens in all programs and is floating. There is the More options button now which is the software menu button we are missing =). You can just go back and disable Assistant menu afterward or like me leave this handy button on because I have multiple programs that do this.
Hope this helps guys Cheers! :good:
Long pressing back key also brings out menu option check out

Yeah I tried that it did not work in the app that I run that I could not get to the menu with, I will try another program and see if I can get that to work. I also tried many of the other options I could find through the searches.

Not in all applications. Must be coded in the app.
This works for me! Galaxy S6, Marshmallow
Thank you for taking the time to share this information! I am posting the link to your post within the app's review mechanism to help other users of the app I am having the 'missing menu button' issue with.

You can also download the free app from the Google play store called all in ones gestures. You can use it to remap all of the buttons on any samsung phone.

No? Or please tell me what "***" menu is called in that app, it seems missing.
Is there a way to change the double tap of the home button to something other then the camera. I'd like to put a different app on this if possible?

Thanks
I've been using a combination of Home2 Shortcut and Recent Task 2 to have my home button launch recent apps when I double tap it. You must disable the double tap camera function on your S7 to get it to work.
Home2 Shortcut is a really old app but it still works. It acts as a home launcher replacement that listen to how many times the home button is tapped. The app's settings lets you choose what app to open when it's double tapped and what home launcher to open when it's single tapped.
Thanks, shoremunkey, I'll try them out.
Yes, download "Home2 Shortcut" app.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for.
Also "all in one gestures". It doesn't have the double tap feature, but it allows you to reassign the home back and recent buttons to whatever you like. It provides different functions for holding, and also gives the option to use edge swiping.
For example I changed the "back" function to the recent button because I'm left handed, when I that button it kills the foreground app. The back button has the recents function and when it's held it takes a screen shot. Then I used a swiping gesture from the bottom of the screen to drop the notification drawer. It works great especially using finger print unlock because as soon as it unlocks I swipe my thumb up the screen and it shows my notifications.
Hey do you mind telling me how you got home2 shortcut to work. I disabled the camera double tap shortcut and assigned an application in step one however for the last step "close" closing the dialog, I am not presented with an option to choose a launcher like the app says. Thanks
Does anyone have any good recommendations for apps that can limit the number of notification sounds that your phone can create within a certain time-frame? There was a great Xposed module [less frequent notifications] that could do this on a rooted device and I find myself missing that feature a lot on my un-rootable S7 .
Also looking for an app that will let me customize what the home, back, and recent buttons can do.

Thanks for the suggestion. It has quite a few options, but it looks like it is missing the ability to customize a 'double tap' press on any of the buttons. I wasn't able to find a 'last app' action either. My ideal set-up would be:
Home
single press - home
double press - camera
long press - google Now on tap
Recents
single press - recents
double press - do nothing
long press - google search
Back
single press - back
double press - last app
long press - kill app
edit: realize I can do without the double press and could move the 'last app' action, if available, to the recent apps long press.

With Android 9, i was able to use Bixby button to take a screenshot and the toolbar at the bottom had the option option for scrolling feature when applicable.
However now with Android 10 it does not have the icon for scrolling feature, the only way to take a scrolling screenshot is via power and volume down pressed together.
Is there a setting or something i am missing? I cant seem to find one anywhere.
I use my palm to take a screen shot. I see that when there is nothing "scrollable" on the screen it doesn't give the option to scroll, there is only 2 options for the screenshot(edit and share).... but on a website/page where there is "scrollable" info, after the screenshot there is 3 options (scroll down/edit and share) The scroll down icon is a square box with arrows pointing down which moves..I'm on Android 10

Thank you i tried with palm and the scroll option does show, with the Bixby button it doesn't though. I guess we can chalk up an Android 10 bug.
