Considering modifying stock HTC 10 with Lineage. I don’t use Google. Unfortunately that’s tied to Pay by phone. The only feature I miss. Other than that what benefits do people find going through the root/install Lineage option? Sprint makes it difficult due to firmware, but I can deal with that if there are enough payoffs. Reasons to install Lineage these days?
I love using LOS and it is the pinacle of ROMs for any phone. For Sprint and HTC there are a few different options that you can use with this phone. However if you are new to phone modding and rom flashing, I would approach this topic gently and start with something more fundamental. OMJ makes great stock roms for your phone that you may want to try flashing first just to learn. Moving to lineage os will take quite a bit more knowledge and practice with ROM flashing and phone modding. You will have to have sunshine first of all and you will have to have modded your firmware to go straight to LOS. If you are comfortable with those things, LOS 15.0 for example will take the stock rom size of 3.2gb down to about 450mb for a bare bones aosp stock rom. I love LOS and it is where I want to be with my devices for unbloated roms without any bloat. They are fast, snappy, have great battery life, unlocked tether, and you will reap the benefits of having a bloat free rooted and unlocked device without all that sprint spamware. Using a tool like magisk or xda on a pure android phone unlocks tremendous potential and many options for your device like audio engine mods, theming, gps spoofing, the options are limitless. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I will do my best to help.
Well, I'm not new to flashing ROMs. Would i still be able to use Pay? I realize i'd need a slim version of Gapps. This is the only feature i'd like to keep. I don't use it, have used it and it's quite useful in case i lose my wallet. Know what i mean?
I mean, i've done quite well without Google. Here's my apps...without ever logging into a G sccount.
Well, I've taken the first steps. Unlocked bootloader, Installed TWRP and rooted. Seems phone makers have made ROM installs more complicated these days. What's a good source for getting around the firmware issue on these sprint phones when installing Lineage? Is there a good solid tutorial? I mean, the Lineage OS site is good, but points out the firmware issue and says to search XDA. I can't seem to find a simple tutorial on that aspect. Thx.
Oh, also... I'm no longer on Sprint with this phone. I've had them unlock the sim and I'm on Simple Mobile. Does that make a difference? Is this still considered a Sprint phone as far as flashing goes?
OK, I installed Lineage OS. Weird that Oreo version isn't available. Anyhow. Everything seems to work fine except home button/Reader. Not a deal breaker as onscreen buttons work fine. Is this because I'm on different firmware? I'm on stock Oreo firmware?
Great to hear that your making progress with no hiccups. I'm just patiently waiting for the Pi update for lineage on this device. Now if you want root, you can flash magisk and even start playing around with substratum to do some theming!
Thanks. Does your home button/reader work?
I guess the issue could have been avoided if I'd RUU'd back to N before installing Lineage. Are there any other issues I might have? If not, I can live with onscreen buttons and wait patiently for Lineage on Oreo update.
Well, that didn't last long. I was getting the dreaded password upon entering recovery. When backing up I noticed could not mount data. So I've taken the plunge and installed unofficial lineage for 8.0. Seems okay. Got my home button and fingerprint reader back.

Well, I'm back on Official 14.1
I need my speakers and there are too many crashes for me to use 15.1 as a daily. I do understand that 15.1 is not even beta yet. That guy has obviously done quite a bit of work. Nice to see the HTC 10 has not been forgotten.
Hi all,
Sorry, I never know whether I should post this kind of thing in the General section or Troubleshooting...
I'm looking for up-to-date advice. What, in your opinion, is the most stable and smooth custom rom available. I'm looking for something as recent as possible, preferably Nougat +, but could be MM if necessary.
The phone is going to be used by my mother-in-law so doesn't need any fancy customization, just reliability and performance.
Thanks!! :good:

Thanks for that. I presume I can find that rom on xda?
--------------
Is it this Lineage rom?:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/development/rom-t3657384
Yup thats it
I used munjenis los 14.1 and switched to AICP 13.1 Oreo. It has up to date patches and is in my opinion currently the best up to date rom. Camera is also fine for me.
hi all! i tried oreo yesterday and all of google (esp. play store & play services) didn't work. tried older versions via apk but no success. without play store makes no sense. anyone an idea why it works for jho55 but not for me (d5503)? and jho55, why did you switch; only for newer version or other reasons? could you give me d/l link to the exact aicp rom u used? at aicp rom it says that there is an issue with oreo on z1c and video recording; does that work on your device? thx&greets, volkbaad
EDIT: found out myself now that i need gapps, too in order to take benefit of google. i work a lot on pc's but up to now not on android, esp. custom roms. it's a bit confusing at first sight; but i'm learning...
It is very important that you follow the instructions posted in the thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/so...development/rom-aicp-13-1-o8-1-amami-t3755554
I am using the rom because I want to have the newest security updates, a fresh android, root access(adblock, firewall). Video recording is working for me.

IT WORKS!!!
At first try I used GApps "super" (14.5.81; 900 MB) and guess I didn't clear all cache and data. This obviously ended up in a mess with old Google Play files and new OS. Second time I cleared system, data, cache and dalvik cache before flashing new ROM, rebooted into normal OS and back into (TWRP) recovery before I flashed GApps "micro" (14.8.xx; 300 MB). "Super" and "mini" had some apps which were unfunctional; and if included in package you cannot uninstall and manually reinstall them, so smaller GApps version is safer.
This time the new install became functional w/o any problem. There was even no need to search and installe older version of GApps, as reported elsewhere.
Maybe this is helpful for other Z1C owners. In the thread mentioned above seemingly not every necessary detail is mentioned.
I think the instructions are pretty straight forward from there it says "How to flash:".
I'm not decided yet. For me it's either AICP 13.1 (oreo) or 115ek's LineageOS 15.1 (Oreo). Both are very stable and suitable for every day useage. And they are maintained in regards to security updates
Pro AICP: some really nice features and add-ons (e.g. theming, nice recent apps solutions, extended phone settings and customizations etc.). Together with some optimzing apps (LSpeed, SysConfigPatcher) battery consumption is ok
Pro LOS 15.1: in my opinion a tad faster and and more efficient in reagrds to battery consumption; rather reduced, but I kind of like that
munjeni's LOS version is great (had that running for over a year) but a bit aged now
I've had LOS 14.1 installed for a while and it seems pretty good, however it seems to have some significant bugs. The big one is that Google Duo doesn't work properly- the mic doesn't work so calls are pointless. Dues anyone else have this problem? Or can anyone give me a ROM where Duo definitely works?
Mic volume in general is pretty quiet.

Hi,
I'm looking to root G7:
Model - XT1962-6
Software - retin
Build - QPUS30.52-16-2-7-7
I simply want to get LineageOS with TWRP and Root. I have searched but have not found anything related to my model. I don't want to brick the device so if anyone can assist me by directing to the correct method, it will be a great help!
Thanks in advance
Hi dcybergeek,
Welcome. I have the exact same than that you do. I started here looking to do a twrp/magisk root like I did back with my Motp G5 Plus...was np prob find everyone did it. NOT SO for our plain G7. Being a novice, I gave up.
Now I drop to look and ask (beg) to see if anyone knows of magisk root...with or without using twrp if need be. The silence has been deafening...no yes or no or maybe...after nearly begging.
No pne could be bothered to give a simple reply...over n over as can be seen all over! And I thought was THE PLACE on to net for help, but no.
Luckily YES...Lineage 17.1 does work on our phone!! I'm about to just give up on on findi ANY FORM of a Magisk root, I guess.

Hi Zaxx32 , thanks for putting this up for me.
True that regarding the pixel 4a. I am thinking of moving on to that or even if I could get a better deal on the 3a.
I am still thinking to try out these guides. Worse scenario, dead phone and a chance to buy a new one
Update for someone else if looking for help/advice:
The LineageOS 17.1 nightlies works well. Managed to install Lineage OS 17.1 from XDA with TWRP. Next up will try Magisk and share the progress

Thanks, could be the model is getting old. Hence the support is dying? But yea myself too didn't expect that from XDA.

Yes, that adds as a contributing factor. But I think it's still well-supported (at least for now).
Anyways, back to your original question. The first thing you need is to unlock the bootloader.
But before that:
1) Take a backup as everything will be erased during bootloader unlock.
2) Download and set up Android SDK platform-tools on your computer.
Omg...DJBhardwaj...do you know how to root the G7 via twrp + Magisk??

That's what I was thinking...and is why I got my unlock but just can't pull the trigger cuz I'm not 100% confident I have the order correct. Been searching even harder since the latest twrp releases but no two guides are the same!! ...and I can't risk bricking my phone. Is there anyway I could convince you to show me the correct order/steps? I'd be happy to compensate you for your time...

IMO, always be ready for a brick when dealing with such things for the first time. It's not like it's bound to happen, but it could. Especially with all the confusion because of all the different tutorials out there.
Rooting/TWRP/ROMs only deal with non-critical partitions, so even if it gets brick, you can easily recover.
LOL no, please. No need to compensate for anything. It's a public forum, and we all are here voluntarily.
Just hit me up on PM, Telegram, or Discord.
Gotcha. I only recently lost my 'root-cherry' to my G5+ which was a great first root but I didn't do my homework re: the' seamless' update system that google said would be a requirement moving forward..(then back-tracked on it in short order..). So my single slot learning experience was pretty straight forward...but reading all the posts on the G7 left my head spinning. I'll hit you tomorrow via PM if that's ok cuz I have to use the on-screen keyboard as I lack the dexterity to type/use a normal kb...1 clk per character is too damn slow for real-time chat...lmao Ttys...and thank you for sharing your brain-power! Gonna do my backups and transfer everything to the pc tonight. Thx again...

Sure. I will try and help as much as possible. It was confusing at first to me as well, but I managed to wrap my head around with enough reading (thanks to some awesome members of the community).
No doubt...I was 'mentored' thru my first root by Wolfcity. The kicker was I'd never used a smart phone til about 8 months b4. Always been a Windows Desktop PC guy n feature phone (burner) user. Leaned a lot...quickly..lol

Have you tried shifting to a custom kernel? Are all users of LOS 17.1 facing sudden hangs?
As for K-9, I believe it's more related to syncing issues. It could be that the K-9 app is not able to run background sync.
Zaxx32 as stated above by both me and DJBhardwaj the very best rather than PM, offsite links would be to go through any XDA related thread.
I understand you are looking for root on stock and not lineage and or any other roms.
If it is to regain privacy I still recom you simply go lineage and or other rom.
And if you still want to root on stock, then there is a high chance it won't work based on the -6 model you own. The best I would suggest is disable unwanted apps if unable to delete. Keep google to the bare minimum (do not sync them all). Use unrooted adblockers, set permissions accordingly and set custom dns under network settings.

I cannot speak for them all, but yes I too suspect kernal issue as the lineage is supported for my -6 model but I suppose not to a full 100%. Other than this, I am not facing any hard errors just sometimes random freezes for 2-3 seconds but to me it is bearable.
Hello XDA.
Ive spent a few hours now reading OP8P forums, and got some rough idea of what I'm getting my self into.
I bought a OP8P, its coming to me within next 10 days. I bought it brand new from T-Mobile in Croatia (Europe).
This is my first time owning a Oneplus, my current phone is Galaxy S7, before that i had an S5... On these two i got some experience with custom roms, rooting, flashing, twrp.... But i didnt do anything to my phone in the last 2 years, its been stagnant... and the knowledge i gained... well, if you don't use it, you lose it..
It always seemed that oneplus had great support in XDA community, but from all these threads I read in past few hours, i gathered some confusing conclusions.
What i expected when i made the purchase is that I would be able to have a stock up-to-date OxygenOS, with root (magisk), twrp, xposed, banking apps working, youtube vanced, photochrome camera...
But..... seems like i would have to go through a lot of trouble achieveing all of these things, deciding between OOS 10 vs 11, if they're even achievable with some of the knowledge i kept from my samsung days...
So here are a few questions i would like answers for...
1. When i get the phone and start it for the first time, am I going to be running OOS 10 until i manually upgrade?
2. Do you suggest I stay on OOS10 or upgrade to OOS11?
3. If i upgrade to OOS11, can I have any of the stuff i mentioned that i expected?
4. I saw some user saying if I decide to root, i should not be using modified/patched boot.img... Why is that? (btw i don't recall ever doing this back in day, would love some info about it...)
5. Is TWRP possible, whats the new META?
4. Is there anything else i should know before doing anything, also I wouldn't mind if you would explain all this to me like im five years old
Thanks in advance!
I'm a op8pro owner, and I have Magisk (22.0), and root without twrp (no recovery yet suported for android 11 on this device). You have to patch boot.img with Magisk. Not a big head ache.
Photocrom camera not working on 11 as before on android 10, and I tried two existing methods (it works, but no "X-ray" feature).
Since android 11 is in its stable release, new devices should come with it, but not sure.
All apps mentioned, Root and non Root are working just fine,
Thanks for replying.
Could you possibly link the guide which I should follow, and save me from something outdated, since I might not be rooting my OOS11 from inactive slot on OOS10
Thanks again!

Root OnePlus 8/8 Pro using Magisk & Install OTA Updates after Rooting

Thanks, just read through it, really simple! thanks!
What do you think are the chances of hardware-based attestation being enabled on my phone? slim chance or?
Forgive me if I post this in the wrong place, move it if necessary np.
Xda has been my go to for many many phones over the years. Many years. But recently I've grown a little deeper interest with the phone I currently own.
I need some clarity if anyone could please.
I've got a OnePlus 8 pro IN2025 on lineage 20 (whatever latest build in relation to the date on this post) and rooted with magisk 26.1.
Everything is running awesome. Even been able to remove a few Google system apps I despise.. this setup is reminiscent of a couple phones I've run on CM.. I thought those days were over.
So much appreciation to those keeping development alive. Much love.
To the point:
I'm trying to run as much of nethunter as possible without flashing it (and maybe I have the wrong idea so please correct me)
To my understanding, nethunter will require me downgrading to Android 12 with some other ROM - crdroid etc..
Flash twrp\ nethunter - then I have the nethunter ROM installed.
Problem is, I'm still a little attached to some Google stuff. I limit it, but there that is.
I've got the Kali app store installed and a few toys I can play with -
Question is, when I flash nethunter, is it like flashing any other ROM? Thats it. Or is there an equivalent to a "USB live version" that's temporary.. have I gone as far as I can without flashing?
I'm not interested in getting rid of lineage in favor of nethunter.
Thanks in advance. You guys are awesome!
