[PlsHelp] Accidentally converted US996 to VS995 - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Alright boys, let me tell you my story.
I have a LGH915 Freedom Mobile Version. And the rooting process looks like way too much work.
I went and bought a US996 and successfully rooted with Magisk.
Unlocked the bootloader
Rooted US995
Installed Alpha ROM 8.0 and converted my US996 to VS995.
I played around with Magisk and got stuck in a boot loop only going to TWRP, tried to restore my backup and didn't work.
Found the US996 kdz file and tried to flash with LGUP and it said my model is VS995 so it didn't work. Downloaded the VS995 kdz and flashed it.
Thankfully back to stock ROM but now my phone thinks its a VS995.
Now I'm not sure if my bootloader is unlocked still unlocked now or locked. I no longer have TWRP & I cannot flash back to US996 kdz.
Tried to root/unlock VS995 but I got denied
There is no OEM Unlock
I turned on USB Debugging
Was following HighonAndroid's Root Verizon LG V20 method and got stuck on
"applypatch /system/bin/atd /storage/emulated/0/dirtysanta"
Screen stuck on: https://imgur.com/a/kcHPNt8
I would say permission denied and I can't go on further.
Any advice would be much appreciated

I thought it was compatible and it worked fine, until I decided to play around with it.

Oh well you play with fire ? you get burned should have waited for the LG 996 oreo release sometime in January
Do a search for patched LGUP and read carefully, it might help you get the device recognized as a 996 so you can flash the 996 kdz

Really difficult to find .dll files.
I tried using UPPERCUT but only allows me to flash VS995.

LG G STYLO Users READ HERE Before Trying to Root + KDZ Files

Hi everyone, little update here we have Root for either 5.0.2 or 5.1.1.
If you still on LP 5.0.2 you can safely root your Device using LG One Click Root or Kingroot and if you are using T-mobile (H631) or Metro (MS631) you can safely flash Custom Recovery (TWRP 2.8.7.0 Thanks @Unjustified Dev) and flash the LP 5.1.1 Flashable ZIP (thanks @GameTheory )
NOTE: There is no Custom Recovery for Boost Variant neither KDZ file yet.
NOTE 2: If you take the OTA or Update using LG Software (Tmo and Metro) you'll get LOCK Bootloader but no wories there after Rooting using new 5.1.1 Method you can safely Unlock Bootloader by going under "Developers Options" and check " Enable OEM Unlock " and flash Custom Recovery using Flashify (THIS ONLY WORKS FOR T-MOBILE AND METRO)
NOTE 3: if you are on LP 5.0.2 or LP 5.1.1 just go CLICK HERE to Root, Install Custom Recovery and/or get Flashable LP 5.1.1 Update
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THIS IS IMPORTANT/ WARNING.
I recommend using the KDZ file is if your Device is UNRECOVERABLE, Reason why b'cuz once you restore your phone using this KDZ you'll loose having the Bootloader Unlock and ability to Root so TAKE THIS AS LAST RESOURCE.
NOTE : This Process Will WIPE your device including device internal storage. (External SDCard are safe)

I used the LG bridge to bring back from a soft brick. I clicked on the update error recovery.
I guess another method to recover. If anyone needs it.

That's good to know....have question for you:
1- will this process doesn't update you device if you are on 5.0.2 to 5.1.1?
2. Were you root? Or trying to root?
3. What happend when you got soft-brick?

2. Were you root? Or trying to root? I was on 5.1.1 tried kingroot got a soft brick.

well i can verify that none of the LG tools work for the Boost variant and still no KDZ file
I accepted the OTA to 5.1.1 on my Stylo, is there a way to root it at all? been searching all over and found nothing hopefully a root method and bootloader unlock method for us running 5.1.1 will be avilable. thanks again for the info!

The updates as of now seem to lock the bootloader even on T-MOBILE...and for me all the Boost devices I've owned were either unlocked or had a workaround but not this one :/

When recover using KDZ (latest version) does lock the Bootloader, but with T-mobile and Metro can be easy unlock by just checking OEM Unlock un developers option , Boost and other variant don't have this luxury of Unlocking Bootloader.

Is there any restrictions if I Root and then use the Phone later to trade for upgrade? Seeing as how the warranty is void I am thinking I will be stuck...

You can Restore using KDZ if you have one, That will erase any trace of root and custom recovery.

D850 not downgradable anymore!

I just got a D850 and was trying to root by downgrading to kit kat using flashtool but when it goes into download mode and it's ready to flash it gives me an error. It looks like its not able to read the info from the phone as it comes up with "Model Information Check Fail". Kingroot is not able to root it either.
I've done this in the past with other G3s albeit they didn't have the latest patches. Could it be that the latest patch closed the door for downgrade?
Has anyone been able to downgrade a fully patched G3 D850?
D85030p
MDF v1.1 Release 2
Any help would be appreciated.

Model info check failed means it doesn’t know what model your using. You need to use the correct dll file for your model in LGUP
And of course kingroot cannot root it, it’s only rootable on kitkat

thanks for your reply.
Just to clarify, I'm. not using LGUP, I'm using flashtool and it's got the right dll. I've used this same setup on another D850 and it worked fine. I've have also tried different computers and USB ports and cables but nothing has worked.
Is it safe to use LGUP on a d850? everywhere I've read it mentions different models but not the D850.

You should be using LGUP if the device is running MM 6.0 or later, that would explain why your getting that error.
LGUP works with every LG android device

h910on on 20F rooted and want to return to stock, need help

I want to downgrade from rooted Oreo with TWRP to H91810P stock
I just tried to go into download mode but Twrp loads instead so I can use LGUP to install 10P.
Any help is appreciated . Below are the rooting step I took?
I rooted using : Kish9046 "Step by step guide for lg v20 h918 unlocking, downgrading, rooting and twrp"
then upgraded TWRP
Then installed Oreo using this guide: dudeawsome "[Rom][Oreo][Rooted] T-Mobile H918 [20f] [20g] Oreo flashable"

Thank you for the info. I put the .img file in my downloads folder but when I go into TWRP 3.2.3-4 and its asking for a password, i click cancel but then when I search for the .img in the download folder I don't see and folders in the phone SD card.
I guess I need a password, but what is the password. Does this mean the phone is encrypted? and does this cause issue flashing stock bootloader?

Non exist. The only thing you can do is root it, then use https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/how-to-return-sprint-lg-v20-to-stock-t3665954 + the ZV7 firmware pack from runninnak3d ls997 root thread to get close to stock, then use OTA to get to 20a.

After doing some searching on google I found this link
I can say from experience that dirty santa worked with the US996 US Cellular version I have, once I went back to the orginal rom with LGUP. as mentioned in the link above.
I have succesfully done the dirty santa to change my canadian stock firmware to US996 to allow it to install custom firmwares but i had issues with LineageOS and went back to US996. Now i want to try a more recent of lineageos but without the bootlocker unlocking site i see no way to install TWRP as the system recovery
