Hello
There is something weird issue with my Redmi 2 prime. The display looks blank in normal lights. All functions like music, camera, touchscreen work perfectly. When I hold the device under bright sunlight, I can see display icons and other things. Also, I can see display items under an external flashlight.
I tried to turn off auto brightness. still, issue same. Same issue when I boot the phone in fastboot or recovery.
I am using stock global rom (MIUI 9).
What is the exact issue? any solutions, please?

Not sure if many of you have noticed but on the Moto X it seems the backlight will slightly flicker to adjust to colors on the screen. It is most noticeable when the brightness is on minimum setting in a dark room and occurs even though auto brightness is off. Simply going from my launcher page 1 to 2 will flicker my brightness 4 times.
I've seen this issue before on another device running a custom CM rom, so I figured it must be a software issue. Which I think I traced to being the color mode of the display. Go to Settings > Color Mode > Select Normal, this should fix the issue if it bothers you. If you use a custom kernel try using KCal to modify the display colors instead.
Let me know if you have this issue on your device, or if my eyes are just crazy. :silly:
Update: When watching youtube videos in full screen my display still flickers the brightness. I also set my lowest brightness to 1 in Gravitybox. So I don't understand why the brightness wants to flicker.
I noticed the same thing while using my phone in a dark room. My immediate thought was to change the color mode in the settings but it made no difference.
What rom and kernel are you using?

Just tried to replicate the problem on cm13 but everything worked fine. I only get this issue with stock or stock based roms

Screenshots never show hardware issues (i.e dead pixels, red screen issue, etc), as they are generated by software. You should take a shot of your screen with an external camera instead a screenshot.
I would take a video of this issue, but I don't have a good enough camera. It's really, really hard to capture unless you have good video recording tech, which I don't have. :crying:
My issue is that, when I set the brightness to its lowest level on my Zenfone 3, the screen starts flickering. This is especially noticeable with white backgrounds. You can tell that the screen is flickering (perhaps refreshing?) rapidly and it makes the phone painful to look at.
Someone actually created a thread about this issue here on XDA a few months ago, with a video showing this issue, but unfortunately, the video doesn't capture the flickering properly. Here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/help/ze520kl-low-screen-light-level-20-t3603502
How to reproduce:
-Turn auto-brightness off
-Slide brightness bar all the way to the left (AKA to the lowest level)
-Open a white background/grayish background or blank page in Chrome
-Screen starts flickering
It happens across the phone, and intermittently. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. In Chrome, in games, whatever. I once thought it could be related to charging the phone, but the screen has flickered on low brightness even when my phone wasn't plugged in, and at 70-80% battery. I might try resetting the phone to see if it's a software defect; I really hope it is.
Turning off hardware overlays in Developer Options does not resolve this issue.
I'm currently on ASUS stock Nougat, unrooted. I can't root right now. I don't have any screen overlays apart from CF.Lumen, which isn't set to come on during the day, when the flickering happens, and I don't use any screen color modes apart from the default settings. I also always have auto-brightness turned off.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue. I might try recording it one day.
Thanks.
Update 1: Removed my 64GB SD Card from the phone to see if that made a difference. It didn't. So the flickering isn't related to power management, AFAIK.
Next step is to wipe the phone completely, including its cache partition from stock recovery, and set the phone up as new again. It might be a hardware issue, but my fingers are crossed.
I've had this issue since I got the phone, ZE552KL. Turning off auto brightness fixes it for me, so I have a feeling it has more to do with ASUS' auto brightness algorithms than anything else.

I always have auto-brightness turned off. I think it might have to do with the ambient light sensor. I've tested it using SMMI and it works just fine. But I wish there was a way to disable it, since I don't need it. I'm kind of disappointed in this phone.
I'm going to try a full reset, and perhaps a custom ROM to see if it's a hardware or software issue.
I've noticed that the 3 capacitive buttons are doing some backlight bleeding on the side of the screen just above them.. This is visible only when they are turned on, on a dark black screen mostly and with the brightness at the lowest level. And of course it's visible after you unlock your phone using your fingerprint with the brightness again at the lowest level... I have seen this on 2 Mi A1 (4/64) devices so far.. The one is mine (black variant manufactured batch 11.2017) and the other is my brother's device (black variant manufactured batch 09.2017).. Do you think that it's a reason to return the phone for RMA or is it something common.? Thank you in advance ..
I guess it's normal. Most A1 and other mi phones have this. I have redmi note 3 pro in the past and i noticed some bleeding too.
And just a question.. Now that the kernel source is out.. Is there a possibility to make those keys like on Oxygen OS?? On my OnePlus 3 those keys are only light up when you pressed on them and not everytime you tap on the screen.. Is this possible? Or is it possible to reduce their dim so that the bleeding on the screen shouldn't look so bad?? Even I you are using a low screen brightness level.. Thanks

I'm using a mod to disable the backlight completely
My wife's S8 screen have issue out of sudden.
It happened when she was using it and suddenly screen starts flickering.
The phone is just 14months old.
Never in my life have this issue before especially a device that's just 1yr+.
Tried safe mode, adjust adaptive display, off light filters but still the same.
