Hi there, I am still using my Nexus 4 and it is doing real fine. I am using android 5.1.1.
I would like to know what is the best Rom qua performance at this moment.
My Nexus is a little slow.

I am using AOSP 6.0.1 by AndDisa and I find that for my usage, it has the best battery and minimal lags.

Sorry, I should have been asleep. My reply related to the N 7 and not the N 4. For N 4, I use the Official LOS 15.1. No additional mods whatsoever. Both devices still use the battery that came with the devices. The N 4 is my standby and not a daily driver. I also use it as my navigator occasionally. For that usage, it has the best battery and absolutely no lags at all. I had used the stock ROM as well as some custom ROMs before.
I would blindly recommend the Official LOS 15.1 for the N 4 atleast.

[Q] Bought it, now what?

Hi everyone,
I posted a few months back whether I should buy a Nex 4 or not. Now that I did, I have another Q.
With my old Galaxy S, i HAD to root and install ROMs cuz it was reaaaally slow. Now, with the Nex 4, it's super fast that I'm not even thinking about ROMing it any time soon. However, I was wondering about rooting it. Does rooting affect the speed? it made my GS faster. Will it do the same for the Nexus?
Thanks.
Just rooting won't actually do anything but installing the right apps will. Of course if you overclock it it will get faster, but personally I underclock it to save battery. I'd say it is definitely worth rooting it. You never know you might feel like installing a ROM later so it can't hurt to root now. Basically everything rooting did to your GS it will do to your N4 but the nexus is already fast.

I'd suggest a kernel change at least. The stock kernel made my phone very hot sometimes and the battery life sucked.
Unlock bootloader, root, start modding and theming, or flash custom rom, have fun, and ignore all the idiot trolls here.

I dont agree. Stock rom and stock kernel. Awesome. Provided that if you have not set sync setting for least times.

Same situation here, from Galaxy S to Nexus 4... well, I've rooted, installed Franko Kernel... and here stops my modding, now enjoying the speed . The only problem is that now every phone I touch, feels slower compared to the nexus

Thanks guys, I'm thinking of a kernel to save a little more battery and at the same time play some heavy duty games.
Any suggestions?

A GS mate! :highfive: I totally agree when it comes to any other phone being slow. I'll stop by Franko kernel's thread after root. Thanks :good:

To each his own.
I rooted my Gnex the first day I got it. Although I plan on staying stock for awhile on the N4 since my favorite custom rom (CM) seems to be a bit glitchly atm.
What I did for an while was run stock-rooted for a bit. I turned ALL animations in Dev Options to .5 and my phone was flying! Quick to menus, opening and closing apps, and saving RAM. Battery life was great considering I'm a stickler when it comes to WiFi and Data toggled. Than I would run either PACman or Paranoid Android. Both were fluid experiences. But nothing beat Stock Rooted speeds.
It just matters what you're looking for. Try ROMs out, there's plenty of them out there! Good luck and happy rooting!

Honestly I thought exactly like you when I first got this phone but I eventually decided to root and install custom ROMs and I like my phone a lot better. I think you should

Nexus 4 , then and now

I owned a nexus 4 when it was launched.
Kept it for a while but sold it because of the poor (at the time) battery times with stock 4.2.
My question is if anything has changed since then in terms of battery and/or performance with the latest kit kat 4.2
Can battery runtimes get any better with custom roms ? Stable one at least...
Thanks in advance.

Well, everything has changed. There are a variety of kernels that greatly improve battery life..so I don't see any consequences to sell N4 just because of that

Hi! I am using paranoid android 4.0 with stock kernel, and i am having excellent battery life. On a normal day it only discarges to 50 percent. I am very satisfied.

Cyanogenmod battery life

Hello xda members , i created this thread to everyone who can/want to share his experience about battery life in cm11 with our precious s4 .
I always see people asking about this and even me , some say that it increase battery life while others say it decrease it.
So if you will share some screenshots , tell us about your configuration ( kernel , cpu , build ... ) .
Thanks , and have a nice day

I am a very heavy user. I browse a lot on mobile data. It is a miracle that I even hit 3 hours OST at 2 % battery left. These are pretty good battery stats for me.

I'm exactly like you , i was always flashing AOSP roms then turning back to stock rom , for about a month
But finally i'm running a stock 4.4.2 rom , waiting for the 5.0 lollipop . Customs roms are good when your device don't get updates any more + i didn't find a rom as stable as stock firmware
Still have 56% of juice

I've been on it from day one and all is good so far
You can read the other several threads in the General section to answer your question. FYI this is in the wrong section.
I think you can go ahead. i am already using this as my daily driver. And its quiet nice.
With my my day to day use i cannot tell that it is beta its already in a better state
I installed it within days of receiving my 6P. There are a couple bugs obviously. Some apps won't run but nothing too bad. Some display issues but overall I'm happy. Only thing I miss is root

Well may be. This is my first non-Samsung phone in a while. To prove it I am still not sure whether there is a fuse like Knox and the 6P. kind of scared to unlock and route due to the pain I had with the note 5 and not being able to use Samsung pay four Google pay … Or warranty I guess LOL

Yes, it is available
I ran it for about a day or so, and to be honest it was stable for the most part but sluggish in some areas and some of the apps I use regularly started crashing and such. But it's definitely something I looking forward to once it's fully released/stable

Hi, for me you should go to LineageOS 15.1 is stable and with a very good battery life, with stock kernel between 4 / 4.5 hours of screen on, considering that my nexus 6p has a year of life.
Trust me you will not regret it.
