Can I load 9.0.6 via local and get future OTA? - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

I'm fully stock. If I don't want to wait for it to be pushed, can I update via local and still get future OTA updates?
Do I download the full or just incremental update?
Thanks!

Easier to use a VPN like "Windscribe", connect to server east-canada and check for update. I did this yesterday and got the OTA update immediately.

Yes you can, device has a local upgrade option, this doesn't alter your future OTA eligibility in any way.

Marshmallow update rollout with unlocked bootloader

Hi all,
Hopefully I am asking in the right place here - it is my first question regarding the Moto X Style.
I got my phone at the end of last week. I decided to unlock the bootloader right from the off as it requires a full wipe. I see that people are seeing the Marshmallow update rolling out in Europe. My question is two fold really.
Firstly, should I receive the OTA update with an unlocked bootloader? Based on what I have read, it looks to me like I should get the update.
Secondly, what "decides" if the update is available to a given phone? When I check for a software update I get the message that the phone is up to date. I'm happy to wait a while but I am also curious how the update rolls out.
Just for extra info, the phone reports as an "XT1572" and the system version says "23.21.18.clark_reteu.reteu.en.EU reteu"
Thanks for any pointers

Thanks for that, I had seen and I will use the sideload method if I don't see the OTA update soon.
My curiosity is more about the mechanics of the OTA method and why my phone does not see an update when I tell it to go and check vs others already seeing it.

My device is a retfr and didn't receive the update while other users had it, so I just sideloaded it. The update seems to be universal for all eu devices.

Usually the rollouts are sent on batches and not all at once. I'm not sure if the criteria they use.

How long does it take for OTA updates to start showing up, after a rollback?

I rolled back from b602 to b204 today, and was expecting updates to show up immediately, since they already were available to me, but I'm not getting any yet, so I'm just wondering if there's some wait time/whatever condition, before OTA updates start showing up.

There is no time limit.

I haven't received any OTA with my phone bought from a local store, had to always do manual updates. I kinda hope that once updating to Oreo the OTA will work properly for me.
I don t expect there will be any more updates via OTA. It was prone to issues.
Enough people brick their phones trying to mod them without having official updates bricking them too.

The OTA system just doesn't work right. As long as you have stock recovery (i.e. you haven't installed TWRP) you will have OTA as broken as everyone else.
The OTA system usually works if you are on the latest version. so, stay on Nougat B09. In not too much time an update will pop up, it will be B10. That update will be the one that allows you to hop to Oreo once it's available (the oreo update should also appear via OTA later on)
Thanks for all your replies

what does that even mean? I don't know anyone who bricked their phones with an OTA. Not even by applying another model update manually, those just lose the signal

It should come as an automatic OTA or you can manually check for update in the settings>System update. I had to manually check for it but the OTA was live within a few minutes of the Pixel's update announcement on Mon.

If you are on Sprint, the update is always a couple of weeks later.
Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
Better to wait... Let Sprint certify it. Lol
