Hi,
I have G935F, installed TWRP 3.0.0.0 and rooted, WITHOUT wiping. System boots correctly, but I cannot do factory reset or wipe with TWRP, because I got some messages like "Cannot mount Data" and "Failed crypto loader". I understand that it has to do with encryption. Can someone please enlight me, and give me tips about the issue?
Thank you

You have to download dm-verity and force encryption disabler from here , put it to SD card, reboot into TWRP, FORMAT DATA (not wipe) and flash that file (dm-verity and force encryption disabler). All your data will be erased.
No way to unencrypt without loosing you data for the moment(
"All your data will be erased" means that after boot I'll find a clean system installation (as factory reset)?
I hope not to be posing stupid questions, I'm completely new to this world
Thank you very much
Yes just as a factory reset

No, you cannot perform a backup, because your data is encrypted by default and the only way to disable it is to format your data.
I have a unique problem. I have a HTC Desire 612 from Verizon and I decided to revive it to playe PoGo. But it was stuck in a boot loop and I couldn't get any custom ROM.
Finally a gentle soul here gave me the stock rom and I flashed it vide TWRP and played PoGo for weeks. Then yesterday the phone bro led and when it came up it was stuck in a boot loop.
So I decided to flash the stock ROM again. But before that I tried to factory reset. I could go to TWRP, select wipe data, enter yes and the wiping was successful, then clear dalvic and cache and system beforehand finally I flashed the stock ROM.
Surprise surprise is NOTHING happens. The phone boots without the apps telling me they are installing. Then I get back the exact same data in my phone including my selected wallpaper and apps. Before I can do anything the phone restarts.
Point is wiping and restoring the stock ROM does NOTHING to the phone yet the processes are successful. Can somebody help?

It really is about TWRP failing to wipe
Hi every one
i recently bought a p9 lite.
I unlocked it and rooted it. I have not set any security measure
After that I did a reset from android and rebooted in some kind of windows
Asking me for a password
When I enter my password I used in my google account, it accept it but cannot continue and reboot. And so it does in an infinity loop.
Then I booted to TRWP recovery
When I try to format or wipe /data it gives me error.
I looked a lot and what I understand is that the data partition is somehow encrypted and TRWP cannot handle that
I did solved this by the following steps:
I installed a stock recovery and booted the phone
When asked for password I gave it and started to do a factory reset. The reset stopped at 10% and a message that reset failed.
However, when the phone rebooted, it miraculously completed the boot and he is live again
*****
What I do not understand is: why and where is the problem
And If it will give me another headache again
You had some strange encryption/security problem, if it happens again you should be able to reset your phone booting to TWRP, click on wipe, select Format Data (Not wipe!), type yes and the data partition will be formatted.

In the first post you said you did a factory reset and not a Format Data. Anyway if you can flash stock recovery and it boots, it should always able to do a factory reset and allow you to boot up the phone

yes i said i did a factory reset in the first and this what started the problem
I installed TWRP on my device. It worked nicely and I booted into twrp recovery. I thought of doing a factory reset. So, I selected the format option on TWRP. It showed something like "Formatting Data using make_extfs". I left it there. My brother came and pulled out the battery from the mobile. I booted up the phone thinking the process was over. I was stuck in a bootloop. I then booted into twrp again. I tried to wipe cache, but a error message came up showing something like "Failed to mount /data". I tried recovery option on TWRP. There it is showing, 0 MB internal storage. I think the storage got corrupted. Any solutions to this?
Try wiping your all partitions. All at once
on my A2017U After unlocking the bootloader and having twrp 3.0.4 installed I went to install resurrection remix and gapps and upon boot it asks for a password that I had never set up. before installing the ROM i formatted the data and wiped everything. What do I need to do? I reloaded a stock rom and in the settings it says the phone is encrypted. I've tried searching for answers to this but I haven't been able to find anything..

I flashed it again, formatting data before flashing everything, still came up with the dialog to inter password. I rebooted into twrp and formatted data again, reboot, still asks for password

updating TWRP to latest build and I still have the same issue
If you Install another ROM, after wiping everything, is this problem still there?
Delete locksettings.db?

Are you sure you are ACTUALLY USING the 'Format data' button? Wiping won't do anything to the encryption (i'm asking just to be sure).
Otherwise try doing this:
-Format data, wipe system, dalvik, cache
-Flash Universal Bstck
-Flash your modem
-Flash the ROM
-Flash either noverity-opt-encrypt-axon7 (I think the name was that one; just make sure it is for the axon7 or ailsa_ii), or SuperSU/Magisk which should have that packaged in.
This really shouldn't happen...

yes, I am actually using format data button and typing yes. I will try using the noverity later this evening and give you a followup
If I remember this right you have to use both in twrp,
factory reset and format data, I read this here on XDA or Reddit before I unlocked my bootloader.

this is what I did.
1. Boot to TWRP
2. wipe/factory reset
3. advanced wipe everything but sd card and usb
4. format data, type yes
5. install ROM and Gapps
6. boot.
everything loads okay except I get it asking for password
I have not tried another ROM yet or the noverity-opt-encrypt-axon7 I will have to do those later tonight.
One more thing I was going to try is remove the lockscreen pin/fingerprint on the stock before doing anything

Do this after you flashed rom and gapps, only factory reset and format data, no need to wipe other stuff.
Edit: I did this directly after the unlock, I flashed the latest official twrp through the unlock twrp version, rebooted to twrp, advanced wiped caches and data, not system, flashed bootloader and modem from the Los thread for my axon version, flashed dark rom with gapps, rebooted and run into the same issue as you. Back to twrp, factory reset, format data, then reboot and everything was good ....., Or Format data and then factory reset, try both if necessary.

Another thing you could try is booting to the bootloader and trying "fastboot format userdata"

You just need to wipe data cache dalvic after flashing the ROM
You have the factory reset step in the wrong place. Do it after the rom and gapps installation...
Essentially the phone is still encrypted though factory reset . You need to get rid of the encryption AFTER you flash the new ROM...
Change the data file system to ext4.

This did the trick.
Flashed bootloader, modem, rom, gapps. factory reset and format data. boot to password, reboot to twrp, factory reset, format data, reboot to working rom no password. Thank you and to everyone else for your help!

This seemed to do the trick for me.
To change the file system type in TWRP 3.2.3.0:
Go to 'wipe', then 'advanced wipe' and select 'Data', press 'Repair or Change File System' and then 'Change File System' to EXT4. It will say "format" which often means "delete" but didn't remove the ROM I had flashed moments before.
I also did this below first- but without doing a re-flash of the bootloader and modem:

Idk if this will help with your use case, but for other users, it can be good to know.
but for the stock ROM: Settings -> Security -> Screen Lock -> Enter your pin -> It should ask you if you want to shut off the password on boot up
Hi,
My s7 got a little bit strange so there very heavy lags.
After this I decided to try a cache wipe.
Aftrerwards I thought i going on the over to the factory reset and this will fix everything.
BUT still it didn´t worked and the reset failed
The output looks like this:
E:format_volume: make ext4 failed on /devblpck/platform/155a0000ufs/by-name/US
Data wipe failed!
Afterwards I reinstalled the OS several times with ODIN.
Still stuck in a Bootloop and a factory reset brings up the same error.
Even a nand erase aswell as a repartition with the correct pit file leeds to the same error.
At the moment I guess the phone is dead and there is no more help.
Or am I wrong and there is a way to bring this back to live?
How did you wipe the phone? You can wipe with twrp and also with adb.
I wiped it with the standard recovery delivered from the Phone.
I tried to flash it a couple of times with odin but still ran in to this error..
Try wipe it with adb. Can you boot into stock recovery? If you cant wipe, make sure you are flashing the correct csc for your phone. So it has to be explicitly for your region and network operator.
