Volume control - Always adjusting Media volume - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

I'm unable to control Ring/Notification volume unless I go into the Sound Settings and it's getting very annoying.
Should the volume rocker be locked to Media volume?

It should adjust the media volume if there's a media player (of any type) active. If you hit the volume rocker then the settings icon at the bottom of the slider then it will take you into the proper volume settings, so at least you don't have to go menu diving to get there.

No Media player running that I can tell. Guess I can try uninstalling them and see what happens.
Edit
Took off Pandora, Spotify, and disabled Play Music. Volume still controlling Media.

I'm pretty sure that's how it works in Pie.
Annoys me as well.

Actually yeah, I take it back. It's always the media volume. Honestly, I prefer that so I guess this is one of those things that some will like and some won't..
One solution would be to create different volume profiles using MacroDroid and have shortcuts for each one. It's not a perfect solution for you, but at least it's a 1-click solution.

[TIP] Use CM7 Profiles To Quickly Change Settings In Fullscreen

I was digging around trying to find an efficient way to manage my audio & other settings during a game or another situation where I was in fullscreen. I started playing around with the profiles and found a handy way to quickly swap audio profiles without leaving the game itself.
Prerequisites:
CM7
Disclaimer:
This doesn't modify anything serious, but don't blame me if you screw your system up. Also, this may not work for every fullscreen scenario.
Let's do this thing!
Goto: Settings -> Profiles
There are already a few profiles configured, but you can delete/ignore those for the time being.
Click "New Profile"
Scroll to "Volume Overrides"
Name it accordingly "I named mine 'Media 100%'"
Set the volume for the individual situation "in my case it was media"
Make sure the checkmark is checked before you exit
That's it!!
Now, hold the power button on your device, select "profile" from the power prompt, and select your new profile. Your setting will be immediately applied and you never left your current app.
I set multiple combinations of audio setting profiles, and you can set yours however you like. I will post some screenshots of my setup later.
Alternatives:
The best alternative I have found is Wave Launcher. It seemed to lag after a while and disrupt some of the games I was playing when changing settings. It was, however, very efficient and had a cool media player widget overlay on any game.
Other uses:
This option is great for other settings as well. You can use your imagination for the potential, and post any other useful tips for Profiles here.
That's a pretty cool feature, I'm currently using Volume + Free for my volume control.

I just played around with the paid version a bit. Did you find a way to change the volume settings without leaving the forground app?
I use Volume Control. It puts a slider (that can be set to disappear after a couple seconds) on the right edge of your screen that can be accessed from any app, full screen or not (overlays on all windows).

Oops, volume+ I'd the app I use to jump the volunteer up a little, I actually use the same volume control app that Takenover is suggesting, I got them mixed up.

Volume buttons question

If I am on my home screen and I use the volume buttons, it only changes the media volume instead of the notification/ring tone volume like I would expect. The only way I can change the notification/ring tone volume is to go into the sound settings menu and adjust the slider. Am I overlooking a way to change what the volume buttons control?

Apparently, that's how Oneplus has set it to work. You'll have to tweak it with xposed/ custom rom/ magisk mod.

Has anybody found a solution to this annoying as hell problem? How do you make the volume side buttons control the ringer volume? Why is there not a choice? Is it that difficult to for the programmers to fix? It's a simple thing. I hate that when you go into settings and control the volume that way IT PLAYS YOUR F&$KING RING TONE!!! That is so stupid! And don't come back with "use your slide switch above the on/off button" because I want to use my volume buttons. Can anyone help? It sucks having to waste so much time to try and find a solution to such a simple request....
Same here. Any software "fix" that bypasses the slider? I just have a bad feeling about it breaking one day...

use a volume app. Also, if you are putting a request do it nicely, nobody is working for you here. We share what we know and nobody owes anyone anything.
That is how oneplus has designed the volume keys to work so complain on oneplus support.

What volume app? I can't find anything that overrides the slider. Allegedly, oxygen slider (xposed module) might be it, but wanted to confirm if anyone here was successful in doing so.

Try this thread - xposed alternative full working
I don't know which app. It has been a long time so I don't know if it exists anymore.
Ended up finding a little app called "silent mode toggle". Basically puts the phone into vibrate mode, which is all I need. Tasker has similar functionally as well. This bypasses the slider (needs to be in the ring mode).

Just found another solution and posted about it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/how-to-bypassing-slider-to-change-t3958265

Notification and Media Volume

Is it just me or are the notification volume and the media volume (videos, music, and such) in Android P linked? I don't know why people would want that but I do not. And maybe I am doing something wrong. I've tried googling and searching majisk modules but no luck on unlinking the two. Any suggestions?
I use volume Butler which allows you to unlock them in it's settings plus set up profiles and such. It works well.
Really weird decision from OnePlus, as most (if not all) OEMs link notification volume with ringer, not media

Volume control

Okay so...I have all my volume controls muted or lowered completey but when opening a video through BaconReader or a Gif w sound, there is sound that I cannot mute or control...
This has never happened on any other device for me.
I am on the most recent Open Beta with no modifications

Check the slider settings, maybe it doesn't mute media.
Also, a "gif with sound" is called a video.

How do I adjust my Notification volume?

The Notification Volume on my PH-1 is way too high! But when I go into my Sound settings, there is nothing there to adjust notifications. There is only Media volume, Call volume, Ring volume and Alarm volume.
My Notification is extremely loud, and attracts a lot of attention when I am in a store, etc. Now, I can set my phone on Vibrate only, but I'll never hear it from another room.
Thanks.
Not sure if there is a trick to do this using built-in controls, but there are 3rd-party apps available for this. I have been using the "Volume Control" (and it has more features, too, some are free, but others are paid or ad-supported):
