nope, got it on my pixel 2 xl too
just updated..

Same here. Just checked for updates and there it was.

But no super res zoom yet
I have tried zooming in with this latest update vs the modified camera app by cstark27, the modded app is much clearer

Not yet. You should update the camera app from the store?

No Super Res Zoom though, and no Top Shot... I'll keep my modified Camera app for now

Just did a quick test on "night mode to enhance resolution" . As you can see from attached picture, night mode did enhance the resolution. (Note the small logo on the right top corner of projection screen. It spells "DA-LITE") At least the logo is discernable on night mode picture while not clear with normal mode.
Might be super zoom or just resolution enhancement offered by night mode.

Those features aren't coming officially to the Pixel 2. Which modded app has turned those on?

Night Sight does a lot of noise cleaning. Just look at the detail it gets in my tires, wheels, and breaks.
Also, super zoom isn't in this update nor is coming to the Pixel 2.

Got the update... Amazing result!

Turned my Pixel 2 XL on just to test the new night sight mode.. it's freakin' witchcraft I tell ya.
I have a OnePlus 6T and a Mate 20 X that I've been playing with and while the newer phones are nice, they still don't add up to Google's camera.. I just tried taking night sight shots on the Mate 20 X and the camera app keeps crashing.. facepalm.

No, not directly from Google at least. If you look at the latest Google Camera apk's, they all require Android 9.0+. I can't see them spending anymore time on Oreo. That's not to say some crafty dev won't find a way, or already has. Why would you still want to be on Oreo... xposed support?

Hey everyone, I made a similar post while waiting for the 6P. Let's start off posting pictures of what we can find from reviews and then post your personal shots once the phones start rolling in.

I'm guessing either that is a HDR+ oversight, meaning it was not utilized properly, or Google decided to keep contrast in this situation. Without being there to view the scene with my own eyes, I can't determine which photo is better (more accurate). Maybe keeping the shadows darker was truer to the scene, and again, produced sharp looking contrast. Or maybe HDR+ dropped the ball here - who knows?
I won't really judge until real reviews come out with post-release software.
I went for a wander at lunchtime to get some real world samples from the camera. Didn't have long so not exactly the best photography but it should give everyone a bit of an idea about the camera's real world performance.
EDIT: It seems the tapatalk upload destroys image quality, so here is a Google Photos link for the full resolution versions of the below, along with a couple of extra shots:

Nexus first then Pixel. I believe the result on the nexus is better. Even though it can be harder to capture that shot and even though it takes longer to shoot, process and open the app. The nexus also has terrible stabilisation, has trouble autofocussing and fails to get close up in macros.

[Question]Google HDR+ possible for the S8?

So I had a Moto Z before and came across this thread.. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/themes/camera-app-hdr-enabled-t3543988. The app did work, allowing for HDR+ mode flawlessly, so I thought I tried it for the S8. Miraculously it worked ONCE, then froze and I couldn't even use the stock camera app until I rebooted. Can a developer tinker into this app to see why it does not work stable enough for the S8? It would be amazing to get HDR+ for the S8 because Samsung's algorithm is not exactly up to par, it tends to over expose the picture a lot in bright daylight, and under expose in cloudy conditions.

Very much the same here. My former Pixel (GF stole it from me ) just took way better pictures. I'm pretty sure the HDR+ mode would lift the S8 into another class.
Yes the Samsung camera app tends to over expose a lot in bright daylight with hdr, very disapointing it could make some good pictues
Well for people with a snapdragon S8

great news about camera updates soon

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL include Pixel Visual Core, Google's first custom imaging chip that allows for HDR+ quality pictures in third-party apps like Instagram and Snapchat. But Pixel 2 users haven't been able to take advantage of those capabilities because the co-processor hasn't been enabled. Well, they'll be able to soon because Google announced today that it's turning on Pixel Visual Core, bringing the HDR+ technology that's been available through the Pixel 2's main camera app to other photography, social media or camera apps.
Pixel Visual Core uses computational photography and machine learning to boost image quality in third-party apps that allow users to take photos. Now that it's enabled, Pixel 2 users can just take a pic in another app, and Pixel Visual Core will automatically make it brighter, more detailed and clearer. You can check out a before and after above.
Google says the update that will switch on Pixel Visual Core is rolling out over the next few days along with other software improvements. Additionally, new winter sports-themed AR stickers should be available later this week.
Looks like I got my pixel 2 just in time.
Those before and after shots, is that using the stock Google camera app? Or examples from a third party camera app pre and post visual core?

It's showing the difference between a 3rd party app using the visual core vs not. The Google Camera App stays the same. However, the Feb update does include a slight performance tweak in the stock camera, according to the changelog.

Why you shouldn't use the new panorama UI (gcam6.1)

Currently I am on vacation and used the new panorama function a lot.
Sadly when editing the images I noticed that they have a very low resolution compared to the "old" photo sphere modes.
So if you care for high amount of detail in your panoramas never ever use the new panorama UI.
It just creates VR shots.
Since I learned the hard way, by wasting my time and a lot of beautiful shots, I wanted others to be aware of that.
Kind regards,
Reawo

OnePlus 6T Camera Application vs. Pixel Camera Application

I can 100% say it makes a difference. I'll try it out when it gets dark later but just a quick office shot of my Rockstar can and I can easily see the difference. The OnePlus 6T camera application makes the can "pop" more but it loses detail in the process. The GCam (Pixel) camera application makes it much more natural looking and restoring detail. Only con is it shoots 4K at 30 FPS so I'll toggle back to stock software for 4K 60 FPS.
I highly recommend it. It's posted elsewhere but for those who don't snoop around the threads...

Just wait till @Arnova8G2 adds the ability to control the jpg quality. I have a feeling this is just scratching the surface in terms of image quality. The OnePlus camera software makes images look oily up close. Severe detail loss. Google Camera pretty much reproduces what you see in the viewfinder. OnePlus needs to stop compressing the images so much. These phones have enough space for 100% quality .jpgs.

We're not talking sometimes. We're talking every single time I try to take a photo, it crashes right after I press the shutter button. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Still the same. Even if it's just a matter of clearing the cache every so often, that's way more work than necessary for a camera to work that should "just be there". If I'm going to have to fuss about, I'll just take out my real camera and set it to full manual. It will still be faster and better. Until the app is stable, I see no point in using it. I'm not getting paid to beta test. (I do get paid to test new development software though.)

Not really sure, I've only used it a handful of times. I normally use my Pixel 3 XL for pictures. I've had my unlocked OnePlus version for four days and besides the photos I tested the portrait mode on that have been deleted I have four pictures in my gallery...lol
I will say this about 9.0.5, screen unlock is now almost instantaneous. The fingerprint reader is now as fast as a hardware one.

Here is a comparison of night modes on stock and pixel camera app on OP6T. the first photo is the pixel camera app and the second one is the stock OnePlus camera app. The stock camera app seems to really wash out the colors. Yes I agree also abit more detail
I have been using gcam and it looks so much better, and of course that night mode is magical!
I still think a lot if detail is being left out as the file sizes are way too small compared to using past gcams with the 6p or even the other devices using the higher file size options/details that were in advanced options in the previous gcam ports. It's especially showing once you zoom in on the pics.

Why the difference in crop?
Still waiting for a version of GCAM that doesn't break in some way. So far, I'm not impressed with the 6T's camera. Tried taking a shot this morning that's a cakewalk for my LG V30 and the 6T just couldn't pull it off. Ended up having to get out my real camera to get the photo.

Well, so far the evidence is quite to the contrary. The V30 can nail the shot every single time, the 6T couldn't nail it even once. Not once. Something tells me you all need to do some wider ranging testing.
