[SHARE][MAGISK][SOLUTION] Android Pie slow screen wake fix - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi there!
So as you might have noticed the number of Android 9 (Pie) ROMs is gradually increasing while they are based on beta android version causing the created ROMs to have plenty of bugs. The most noticeable one that all Pie custom ROMs suffer is presumably the very slow screen wake issue. While it cannot be completely eliminated due to Google that firmly says it is an intentional feature it can be noticeably decreased.
This mod enables always on display feature in Pie ROMs this way halving the wake time your device needs after pressing the power button or DT2W. It was originally created for the Google Pixel XL users who had the same problem.
It's been tested on Official Pixel Experience Pie ROM r10 and works flawlessly. It's your choice to try it on your custom Pie based rom and see what happens. Either way I take no responsibility for it. If it wouldn't work as intended or causes issues you can remove or disable the module through Magisk Manager. It was worth a try for me

[Q] Oxygen, ICS, CM7 and Official

Not being able to post on the Development sections cramps on my style a bit, but I have a couple of questions:
* First of all, I am still on Oxygen, do you guys think there's any good reason to switch? I like Oxygen a lot and apart from a couple of issues (see below) I've been very happy with it... Will dzo ever show up again and merge the new drivers into his release?
* Have the camera and GPU driver from the official 2.3 been ported to any other ROM?
* I've been seeing a lot of ICS related ROMS in Development as of late, is there a fully functional ICS ROM yet? What's stopping us, since it seems almost every other device is making some progress with it (i.e: having hardware acceleration enabled, radios working, etc.)?
Problems with Oxygen:
* Light Sensor behaves strangely: for example, with auto brightness enabled, turning on or off the light in my room makes no change in screen brightness. If I put the device close or directly under a lightbulb it will only then begin to change. I can confirm this with some sensor testing apps. Is there any way to calibrate the light sensor?
* Microphone acts strange: I have never seen anyone report this, but when I connect headphones, then try to use for example voice dialing or voice commands it will not work (wait forever) or simply give an error. If I disconnect the headphones after I tried to use voice it will never work again unless I reboot. If I connect headphones, never use voice, and then disconnect them and use voice it will work as it should
* Signal Strength very irregular: I live in a area with difficult reception, but signal strength is insane, sometimes is goes from 0 to full bars like no big deal
* Camera's FPS very jumpy (new drivers will fix this?)
* No access to internal storage: I knew this going in, but still...
* Flash videos sometimes green and overlapping the screen. This happens with both the YouTube app and any video player that can play FLV. It only happens from time to time and I can't reproduce it.
I went straight from stock (TMN Portugal) to Oxygen, never messed around with any other ROM (I tried CM7 for half an hour or so) but these little things start to bother me, plus it breaks my heart to know that the camera and GPU could be much smoother just by using different drivers. It also scares me that Huawei disabled the standard method of installing Recovery and rooting, so I'd prefer not to upgrade to the official ROM right away. So, is it worth to change ROM at this point? Can you help me with any of my problems with Oxygen?
Hi!
I tryed "all" ROMs I found here in XDA, Oxygen for me is not enough, it just lacks of "options" I love the Cyanogen Settings, you can do a lot of customizations there. Im on custom ROMs for 5 months now, never had a problem with the phone itself. Strange rebooting, camera stopped working and drainage of the battery does NOT count in here. I would suggest you try CM for more than a half hour since - in my opinion - it is the best. I hate the original Froyo, because it lacks of customization. So MIUI is not an option for me, it is just to simple. I was thinking I know all about flashing, but yesterday I just bricked my u8800, simply because I did not notice the + on the end of the official 2.3 update and installed update for u8800+.
My suggestion is, to follow guides here on XDA (they are excellent) and try all the ROMs, and see which one suits you best.
I'm also very happy with Oxygen, I'm still on r1 and have no major issues at all, so thank you very much dzo!
But I hope for the future that dzo will continue to update this rom so we can get better drivers for camera and other small fixes. It looks like the official rom will never be an stable option for us...

OP2 Screen rotation periodically stops working

Hi folks
I received my OP2 in July 2016, and this issue has been a mild periodic annoyance. As I approach the end of my warranty, I want to be 100% confident that this issue is software rather than hardware... (so rather than a fix, my highest priority is confirming that I do not have a hardware defect)
The issue is that the screen rotation will stop working for most, but not all apps (OnePlus Camera is the sole exception, it seems). It will rotate normally for a couple weeks and then I'll notice in some app, usually YouTube or Facebook first, that the screen orientation won't rotate anymore. Once I notice it in any app, no other app rotates either except the stock camera. I have been experiencing this symptom on-and-off for most of the time I've had the device, spanning multiple OOS releases (currently 3.5.8 and still happening).
A reboot fixes the condition, then it works fine for a week or two and comes back. OnePlus support suggested a factory reset, which I've done pursuing this issue before, and it didn't help (it immediately helped, obviously, but the issue did return on the same schedule as before).
I had my OP2 rooted, but still using the stock ROM otherwise, for several months (to be able to use Adblock). I reverted to 100% stock configuration pursuing this issue, it happened the same before/during/after the time it was rooted.
I have checked out the accelerometer with the app "Test Your Android" and watched the graph in the "gravity sensor" test. When the phone is in its non-rotating state and I rotate the phone, the graph lines cross but the app stays in portrait. This makes me think the phone knows it has rotated. I reboot the phone, redo the same test, and the graph looks similar except the app now rotates as well (ironic, really).
Is there a background service for "screen orientation" similar to how Play Services provides GPS information to other apps? If so, am I right in suspecting that the service responsible for answering the question, "what way is the device oriented currently?" is either not answering, or answering incorrectly?
I would prefer not to go to a third party ROM just to test this as I'm very happy with the current config of my device, other than this issue popping up from time to time. Any input is appreciated.
Thanks!
OOS has a tonne of services running under android system continuously. Screen orientation feedback might be one of them. I haven't used OOS in months. It doesn't seem like a hardware issue since a reboot solves it. If it is too frustrating then try testing it on a custom rom. You can switch back to stock once you are sure it was a problem in OOS or not.

The more I think about it, the more stupid it seems to have a device that is rather well-supported by custom ROM devs and to not try some out.
I'll shop around for a ROM and give it a shot. I'm thinking and hoping this is strictly a software issue.

In case you want suggestions, try these:
Bliss
Halogen
Validus
Lineage 13
Well, I have the same issue on my OP2 intermittently and it does not matter which rom I am using. In addition to OOS, I have had this issue on Marshmallow Cyanogenmod / Nougat Lineage based roms. Sooner or later it always returns. It seems to happen after longer uptime periods. E.g. with OOS3 I had an uptime stretch of 40+ days (without a reboot), so during this time I experienced the autorotation issue multiple times. It seems to get fixed by itself, but then comes back again. A reboot fixes it usually for longer period of time. As I am now on a custom rom, which is updated quite often, at least once of twice a week, the uptime stretches are not that long and I do not experience this issue often. I have noticed that the step counting sensors also stop working intermittently.
On rooted lineage based rom you can manually restart the sensors with following terminal commands:
su
stop sensors
start sensors
Don't know if this works on OOS. I made a tasker task shortcut for this on my homescreen.
Interesting...I have had the problem on-and-off I'd say, sometimes it follows this ~2 week pattern, sometimes it'll go longer than a month with no issues that I've noticed. Of course, it's also fairly rare that I watch videos on my phone and this is the main time that I realize it won't rotate.
Of course, with the current trend being to make all videos square with unnecessary obnoxious text in the letterbox black space, I suppose I'll never need to rotate my phone again </sarcasm>.
Prior to utkarsh102's suggestions I had already flashed AOSPExtended so I'm going to try rolling with this for a short time, if any issues surface (unrelated to my rotation issue) I'll try another ROM. Given that I'm trying to diagnose this issue before my warranty runs out (yeah, shoulda done it sooner, I know) I'll need to have a usable solution that can run stable for weeks uninterrupted to catch this again, if it's going to happen again.
FYI OnePlus support was entirely unhelpful about this issue. They completely disregarded the fact that it is intermittent and was not currently happening when I reported it to them. They were not able to suggest any diagnostic effort I could take to narrow down the issue further. Viewing the accelerometer readings was my own idea, not theirs. That suggestion absolutely should have come from them.
I do know I'm/we're not isolated in having this issue as there are other forum posts on various sites complaining of it.
I'll keep this thread updated with my findings, in the meantime anyone who has experienced this issue please chime in. It would be helpful to present to OnePlus, though I get the impression they won't care as they seem to have classified the 2 as a legacy product at this point. It's not like we're trying to get parts for a dot-matrix printer here.
Edit, October 2017, to provide an update without bumping the thread:
I've been using AOSPExtended on a constant basis since my last update to this thread and while I have experienced a variety of other issues, this particular one with the screen rotation has not affected me. My uptime has never been super long, but long enough at times that I should have seen this issue if it were going to happen following the same pattern as before.

Request - Stock LED Light Implementation

I've been looking around these forums for quite a while now, hoping to find a near-stock ROM based on the latest NPN25.137-83 North American firmware that has integrated notification LED support. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anything.
This ROM is the closest thing I can find to what I'm looking for. Very nearly stock - just zipaligned, debloated, deodexed, a simple camera mod, and the LED enabled for notifications. The only downside is that it's not based on 137-83. Considering the March security patch, it seems to be based on 137-67 at the latest. And the developer of the linked ROM apparently has no plans to integrate the August security patch or the rest of the 137-83 firmware (a big problem for me considering the Verizon VoLTE bugs on 137-67).
There are other solutions too, like the Moto LED enabler app, but it's not that reliable. The blinking follows some sporadic and unappealing pattern, and it sometimes likes to stop blinking entirely after a while. The list of apps that enable the LED also seems to periodically reset itself.
So, my question is as follows: would someone release a ROM similar to the one I linked with the latest firmware and patches? Or perhaps can we just get a TWRP flashable zip to enable the LED for notifications? I'll gladly pull some weight on this if someone can point me in the right direction. Thank you!
Would really like to see this implemented as well, Paranoid Android rom I tested a while back also had this implemented very well, even works with screen on.
I'd like this as well.
I tried with Tasker but, due to deep sleep, it stops to work after few seconds of screen off (it works fine only enabling the option "Keep Device Awake" but battery drains quickly)

Wow.... Official support thats great...thank you so much
Short review of this rom:
i flashed this rom three days ago (GAAPS nano)
battery life seems slightly better than stock rom
GPS works really reliable (drove 500km today with Google maps)
Rooted via magisk - Adaway/Systemizer/youtube as magisk module - no problem at all
Call quality is good but phone-speaker seems a bit too quiet - flashed Viper magisk module, speakers are loud enough now
performance is outstanding! this rom is so smooth! its like a new phone for me (after freeze/stutter bug from stock nougat rom)
fp sensor is working great
Fast charging is working but there is no indicator for it
over all this rom is great, far better than any stock rom and i did not encouter any bugs so far
My experience so far, I'm missing few features
I will update one by one
1. Cast is not working ( I have Samsung smart TV and it is not connecting)
2. No theme manager
3. No native video calling option in dialler
4. Camera quality is good but video recording is dark
5. Some time signal completely goes for few seconds then appears
6. No temporary disable option for navigate bar
7. Mobile download speed is low when compared to stock ROM download speed
Can someone confirm whether face unlock is working properly in this rom to unlock the screen

What about camera.... Is video recording working
My Review -
Pros - ROM is second to none, not even stock comes close in stability & battery performance.
Though i hope these issue will be resolved in upcoming builds later...
1- Sound starts playing from speaker even if you are plugged with ear phones during senarios.
2-Signal bars indicator keeps fluctuating often between 0-4(full strength) though data & calls works without breakage.
3-WiFi connections drops in between & connection works again automatically within 3-4 seconds.
4-Phones hangs little bit during Casting on Android TV.
5- Video recordings are little bit darker as of now.
*Tell you if found any.
This ROM is stable as much as stock ROM, I'm using this ROM as daily driver its better than stock with many features + latest security updates every week.

Ofcourse video recordings are a little darker as of now in any custom ROM, but video thing barely falls into my daily driver agenda, & those issues I've listed are bareable
Very nice to see and i am really happy that LOS is finaly official for this device.Great job from the devs!I am curious are there plans to switch from LOS 14.1 to LOS 15.1?
Experiencing random WiFi drops and inconsistent speeds, anyone else having issues with WiFi too?
Besides the WiFi issues the latest build is nearly flawless, was a bit of a hassle to get it running since I've never done this before but so far it's pretty good.
Thanks for the hard work

Can u list the bugs which u found while using this rom
Rock solid
Thanks devs !
Using this for some time now (January).
Everything works great and is smoother than the stock ROM.
The only minor bug is the fluctuating mobile connection display that has already been mentioned.
Had some odd torch-would-not-start issue after a long uptime (2 weeks), a reboot fixed that.
Battery rocks, usually 5-ish days, 7-8 hours SOT
Love Lineage OS - CM user since 2.3.x, wont buy a phone that has no chance of using LOS
Thank you for your hard work. In two days I noted only one problem: under battery usage Bluetooth is always on the first place with impossibile values (110%, 110000mAh) but it's not a real battery drain.
Superb ROM
First of all, Thanks for this great ROM, much better than stock or ridiciously fast compared to stock. Not even talked about stability.
Very smooth, fast. Long story short: VERY good ROM as daily driver.
I used this rom now almost a week and haven't had any noticable issue
1. Cast is not working.
I did not have this issue, i cast a lot but it is working better than stock
2. No theme manager.
not important to me but i can imagine that it would be important to other people
3. No native video calling option in dialler.
I don miss it, i normally use whatsapp for it, but it would be an welcome option
4. Camera quality is good but video recording is dark
For me it is better than stock, i don have any issues with this
5. Some time signal completely goes for few seconds then appears
I don have any issues with this, i use this phone for work al i call at least 4 hours a days (work only) i haven't had this issue once
7. Mobile download speed is low when compared to stock ROM download speed
For me i don have this issue, i think it is faster than stock but it is close
if i find any other things i will update this post.
But i want to mention i am happy that i flashed this ROM. It is a relieve that this great device as a great ROM which it deserves.
so thumbs up for all devs @mikeioannina, @highwaystar_ru, @FireLord

NON STOCK ROM : how bad is the battery drain with second screen in AOD mode ??

(sorry if this has already been discussed before)
I like my second screen in AOD/standby mode to read the time, notifications, battery level ...
I recently received my second $110 lg v20 h910 from aliexpress and was ready to get to play with a lineageos based ROM (I find my stock based rom a little bloated) but I read ( https://www.reddit.com/r/lgv20/comments/agefj5/lineage_151_second_screen_not_turning_off_when/ ) that there is a MASSIVE BATTERY DRAIN on ALL the NON STOCK roms with second screen support in AOD mode when the phone is in AOD MODE ...
Could somebody please tell me how bad this battery drain is on these ROMS (lineageos 15.1 and resurrection remix with second screen support) ??? Does this make these roms unusable ??
Also it seems like development has stopped on these roms ... is that the reason why ??
(I know that there is a lineageos 16 rom with notch support for the second screen but I understand that it doesn't support AOD mode for the second screen, right ??)
Thanks folks for your lights on this subject !
Its not bad enough to make it unusable, but for me it was enough to make me have to charge twice a day instead of once. The problem is that the LG V20 has an LCD, so the whole backlight needs to be lit to be readable.
From what I get, development has stopped because the Devs are putting in all they can into Pie based roms.
Pie based roms don't support AOD, once again because of the backlight. If I understand this phone correctly (Correct me if I'm wrong, happy to learn), the backlight is split into 2 pieces, one for the second screen, and one for the rest. LG Roms used just the second screen part.
I personally love the Pie roms, dont even miss the second screen. Yeah, it was useful, but not something that made a huge difference.

Thanks a lot for your answer ! :good::good:
Then I guess I am going to try LineageOS Pie on my test phone to see if it's worth it while staying on Nougat Alpha Omega on my daily driver (On Nougat Alpha Omega I like Zacharee "mod control" to tune the battery size in the second screen, etc ... and I am not sure if this "mod control" app is working on Oreo Stock based roms ...)
