Does anyone have VVM actually working in the stock dialer on the TMO variant?
First, the tab itself in the dialer won't even show if you have the TMO VVM app. So I uninstalled the app, got the tab to show, but all I get is a blank white box with a VM icon with a red exclamation point on it. Anyone else? Yeah, I could use the VVM app but...eff that. I want it in the dialer. ?
Oh, and if you go into the dialer settings > call settings > voicemail, it says "visual voicemail is not activated yet" but, uh, bruh, it totally is because the VVM app works (when installed).
I have the unlocked 6T and it's the same for me. I tried stock dialer and Google phone dialer, neither will activate VVM but the T-Mo VVM app works. It's not just the T-Mo 6T with this issue
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk
Lame. Maybe with root/ROMs we can cook in the Google dialer or something and get it to work as intended. Thanks for confirming it's not just me.
Ok guys I had this issue as well. I got mine working by using the latest Google dialer beta apk and doing the following:
1. If you have TMO Vvm or Google dialer(or both) apps installed, uninstall them.
2. Go to stock dialer app info and clear cache and data.
3. Go into the stock dialer settings and activate vvm. Reboot.
4. Install Google dialer and Grant all permissions.
5. Go into settings/apps/default apps and make Google dialer default.
6. GDialer settings voicemail make sure everything is on.
That was all I did... TMO 6t

Bruh... That seemed to work. I got the same screen now that you posted. Just have to wait until I get a VM to know for sure
Edit: spoke too soon. I went back into phone and I'm getting the "you might not see voicemail until it's fully activated" blah blah blah error.
It pops up as a text message like this,

Yeah...I wish. Lemme ask you though... Do you pay for VM to text from TMO for like 4 bucks a month? I do, and I'm wondering if that might be interfering with Google's transcription service...

Ok. I just turned it off on my plan. I'm gonna redo the whole process because I think you have to go into the TMO VVM app to provision it so it gives you the options you selected. I'll report back in a bit.

Yeah that didn't work either. Might be because I've paid for the feature thru today or something, I'll try it again tomorrow. The fact that it works for you tells me that I can get it too.

check this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...phone-v14-0-175904292-bubble-t3708218/page190
I have seen some similar issue in this thread but can't remember where exactly, but maybe check through it and or try the latest one patched in the OP. It also mentions for vvm in the dialer, you need to make it default app dialer.or maybe disable stock, I cant remember off the top of my head..just search through the thread .

Google voice hands down...
I would suggest (personal opinion on style and battery usage) installing the installing the inverted version here just because black looks slicker and causes less work for the screen.

When I signed up it said that when my free trial was up I would be presented with an option to continue the service or to cancel. They specifically stated that there is NO automatic billing once the trial is up.
How do I go about removing the sprint app? I tried dragging it to the trash can and that didn't work.. I have sdx stock app remover, but I don't see anything obviously titled "voicemail" or some such..
also, google voice setup is stuck at "verifying phone number" been that way for at least a minute now.. long enough for the screen to turn off
edit: yea, that google voice isn't installing.. I'm going to try the market version, then come back to the inverted version at a later time.. I really hate non-black themed apps too..

try setting it up on a computer and skipping that step on your phone. I only ever did that set up when I was dealing with a non-smartphone.

The stock app is called cm-android. And you can try this apk. Its the inverted and I edited it to have a transparent widget. I just put it on mine and it installed fine.
disregard this post.. **** was going bad here.. but its better now.
OKAY, installed
Thanks gitusum.
Still not perfect.. I tried a test call and my hilarious outgoing greeting is gone.. replaced by some generic woman and there is no option to even leave a voicemail, she just says something like the call failed, please try again.
well okay the good news is that I'm back where I started with the stock sprint voicemail to text app.. With my hilariously rude outgoing greeting!
I don't know why, but forwarding my voicemail to google simply was not working.
Work is over, so I quit for today. Will try again tomorrow. Thanks for the help everyone!

Did you set it up /w voice.google.com first? Setting up through the app itself doesnt work all that well IMO. Once it is setup you can just skip the voicemail setup step if/when you reinstall. I just pressed activate google voicemail on this phone. It then should make you dial a #. After that it is done.
yea setting it up through the voice app doesn't work but setting it up on a computer did. It's just that dialing the code to forward voicemails to google voice doesn't do anything but break my voicemail.
If I call my number I get some kind of cut-off error.. it sounds like "-all could not be completed, please try again" with no option to leave a voicemail. The code to deactivate the voicemail forwarding works fine at restoring the original sprint voicemail service.
As we all know Gingerbread has been in the oven... And I was one of those people who could not wait for it to cool off. As soon as I saw the leak early saturday morning, I was already downloading. what could go wrong, right? I odin'd the ef02.tar, started her up and wow, she's beautiful, save the extra ugly 4g symbol in the window sill (notification bar) that looks even worse now than previous desserts.
Keep in mind this is a stock .tar. No root. No cwm. No nothing. Except bloat. Low and behold my beautiful lil girl had a very serious functionality flaw. After my first reboot, no more incoming phone calls :^(...
So I've tried everything, I gained root, installed cwm 3.1.0.1 wiped data, cache, dalvik multiple times. Re odin'd the .tar. Flashed Decad3nce's odexed and deodexed roms. Updated modems. Tried frozen on ec05, took a shot at simply AOSP, odin'd a stock ec05, even went all the way back to eb13, with cwm 2.5 (changing file systems when needed) now I'm back to a bone stock ec05 from the stickies in development... Still no incoming phone calls. I called sprint technical and they were unable to resolve the issue.
Funny thing is I can make calls, I have data (3&4g), I can text, just won't receive.
Has anybody else seen anything remotely close to this. If so please comment, if not, comment anyways. I wanna get some opinions on my situation.
P.S. feel free to laugh at my short comings, lord knows just thinking about it brings chuckles to my mind...

You know, i did install google voice. But ive installed it multiple times until now, so i figured it was unrelated. But this past time it did take my texts through there, which had never happened before. thats why i uninstalled it. Im gonna check that out and see if it fixes it. Good luck with your issues.
Sounds like you clicked yes to Sprint integration (ports your number temporarily to google). So they go to your google voice account, however you can check an option to have them sent also to your phone as well (although if you do this with google voice installed you will probably get 2 notifications per 1 sms). Also call screening is an option that is enabled by default, option in google voice (desktop web interface). I had to turn that off too (the press 1 thing). Hope this helps, its just options. Also you could go online and disable the integration and go back to normal.
EDIT: Also make sure your phone is listed to receive calls in the web interface (via a desktop). I know it should do this by default but maybe it didn't for god knows what reason?

I just came back from the sprint store, and none of there techs could give me anything in depth about google voice. They just said it was beta and somewhat "finneky" however my phone works perfect now. I had to use a pc at the store while I was warranting my samsung dock (fyi don't use desk dock with any charger other than tge one provided)
I bought my V20 directly - not thru veizon and it is activated on the Verizon network. When I try to install Verizon Visual Voicemail, it says my device is not compatible. I tried downloading the apk and it "installs" but when I try to open it I get "This app is not supported on this device." Has anyone found a way to make this work? I have to assume that if I'd bought this from Verizon, it would work.
Stock, mine worked fine. Rooted and running a 996 ROM though, I'm in the same boat. I haven't tried REAL hard yet, but if you come across a work-around, let me know.
I'm working on it now, trying to find a fix for this one..
I had the same issue, using my unlocked v20 (us996) on Verizon. Went to the store and the tech guy says that the visual voicemail service will be soon discontinued and something else will be released and to wait for it, but as of now there is no way to get the voicemail app on phones that aren't Verizon.
Hmm, ok so I got the visual voicemail app that came on WETA rom, but it doesn't do voice to text like I was expecting... Buttttttt, that's because Verizon charges for it and I'm not paying $2.99 for something that Google Voice does for free lol..
Well of course there's always "something", right..?!?
Google Voice says it doesn't work with my provider...! Whelp, back on the hunt for a VVM app I can use, that's hopefully free..

In our case, I actually do have a Verizon phone, just using a ROM for a different model. Was hoping to find a build.prop edit, or something that would let me re-label the phone back correctly so Verizon would see it. I know that they said that 7.1+ would build the VM into the native system, instead of an app - maybe that's what they were talking about? My other issue is that I use Google Voice with a 2nd number for a business line, so I can't exactly use it for my main number's VM.

I did, with my 2nd number, and it's been fine since. I rarely use it for calls, but I use it for incoming, and for it's VM. So far, it seems to work fine. Call comes in correctly, goes to VM (which reminds me I have to change my message lol).
Ok so i had google voice for a few hours and it was cool.. But I figured I'd try to stick with a more oem approach, so I found the Pixel XL dialer.. Now I'm tweaking that to work for me, love the visuals on it that's for sure..!
So I just found the Pixel XL dialer on youtube and it looks awesome, and I also saw the Nexus Visual Voice Mail and thought wow, that's awesome too.. So I tried to copy the Nexus vvm over to my system/priv-app folder, and modify the permissions to 775, but Root Browser won't let me change permissions and if I try to use Root Explorer it just shows a blank screen when I open the app (not sure if it's Nougat friendly yet), so I'm just curious if any of you guys have done this kinda stuff, and if so how did you manage to have success at it..?? I figured if it's the same DPI range, same OS, and files are even named the same, it should work right..?
Thanks!
EDIT: So upon researching this some, it appears that LG uses a "LGContact" file in system/priv-app's and not a dialer.apk, so I don't know how to go about adding in say, the Pixel XL dialer.. Hmm, oh well just figured it'd be a cool thing to try but at this point I'm thinking it'd probably screw something up if I tried it.. I'm still interested in hearing from those who have done this if you care to chime in..

I use an older version of Google Dialer without a problem. I had to sideload it but everything works fine except for voicemail - messages won't appear. The version number is 2.05.07_rc4. Google added a patch after that version that won't allow it to work on other phones. After installing it, you just select it as the default app for phone calls and it handles both incoming and outgoing calls. I'm not rooted and didn't have to change any permissions to get it working.

I couldn't get call screening working granted I didn't exactly try that hard to get it working. Just systemized the dialer app and flashed Google dialer framework magisk module
Idk what else is needed to make it work.
I bet I can get it working. I remember a
the thread for the OnePlus 7 Pro about call screening, everyone said that it wasn't working, I had mine up and running without any problems. Currently I'm waiting for my unlock token from OnePlus, so I can't confirm if this method will work, but I'll tell you exactly what I did before and I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work now. Try it out and then let me know if it works or not. It doesn't, maybe we can come up with a workaround.
The version number of the dialer that you use is critical. New versions of the Google dialer from the Play store via Google Framework do not work. Here's the link to the APK that I used:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...le-phone-39-0-270797297-android-apk-download/
The initial steps I performed were downloading the Magisk modules Busybox for NDK, Google Framework, and App Systemizer alongside installing Preferences Manager from the Play Store.
Then I cleared the storage for the stock dialer app, denied all of its permissions, and finally disabled it. Then I used App Systemizer to convert the Google Dialer into a system app. When App Systemizer gives you the option to install either the app as a 1 - system app or 2 - priv-app, always choose number 2. Then make sure to go into system settings and choose the Google Dialer as the default dialer app, otherwise icall screen won't work at all. Also go ahead and clear Google Dialer's storage while enabling all of it's permissions. Also go under Apps & Notifications in the system menu and choose special app access. Enable the Google Dialer to draw over other apps, modify system settings, and have usage access.
Next open up Preferences Manager. Grant it superuser access and from options choose "show system apps". Scroll down the list until you come to where you start seeing entries for "phone". On my old OnePlus 7 Pro, the one to choose was the first one listed as "phone". It didn't have an icon next to it versus the stock Dialer app which did. When you open this option up, swipe from left to right until you get to the heading "dialer_phenotype_flags.xml". First, choose backup under the menu in case there's a problem afterwards and you need to restore the flags to their previous settings. Then go to the search field and search for all the flags with "speak_easy", "speakeasy", "call_screen", and "callscreen", then update all of these flags with values of "true".
The way to determine if this procedure worked is to now open up ithe Google Dialer and choose the three dot menu and choose "Settings". You should see an option listed for "Call Screen". If you do see it then the process worked.
Let me know if you need any further information but I think that should work.

Just finished trying this, worked like a charm! Thank you so much! This was the only thing making me consider going back to my pixel 3a xl, but now it's clear that you can have the best of both worlds!
Should we post this in the Mods category for this device? I know a lot of people would be happy to have this!
First off I'm so glad to hear that it worked for you! It's a pretty nifty feature and I personally think it's pretty cool.
To be honest with you, that was pretty much my first time ever posting anything to XDA. Most of the time I just go through the forums and tried to get new features to work on my phone, but hardly ever participate in the actual discussions
if you honestly think this could help other XDA members get this up and running, I'd love to help. But to be honest with you I'm not really familiar with starting a thread and stuff like that. If you don't mind, could you tell me what I need to do to do that? Is that like starting a new thread somewhere in the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren edition discussions? I'm an absolute total new when it comes to posting and forums and discussion groups, and I have no idea what the protocol is for doing something like that. I'd really appreciate it if you could kind of guide me in the right direction or make some suggestions as to how I go about doing it.
Well, just to reiterate, I'm really excited that it work for you and hopefully we can get it to work for other people as well. Just respond to this message and let me know what I can do to help. Thanks again!

Personally, running a year old version of Google Dialer just to get Call Screen isn't worth it. Have you tested Call Screen to see if it actually fully works? Or if in reality the person calling hears nothing at all?

I've been running it with no issues on OOS and it works perfectly fine. Tested call screening and it works perfectly fine. Personally, I think it's worth it.
I'm running AOSiP now and I've yet to test it there. But OOS is confirmed to be working with it.
Has anybody been able to make it work on any of the custom ROMs? I tried smreker's steps on aosip but I couldn't get Google dialer to install. Just finished flashing lineage and aside from the fingerprints, this thing is running like it's good enough to say bye bye to oxygen.

I was testing today on aosip ROM and it did not work. The caller can't hear the Google assistant voice. I'm going to be looking into this more to see why it works on stock ROM, but not a customer ROM..
Aosip ships with Google dialer pre-installed, so you need to use debloat magisk module to uninstall it, and then reinstall it with the older APK file.. I may have messed up the installation on my end, so any other testing from other users would be greatly appreciated. I may reach out to the developers to see if they can figure out what I may be missing.
I never reinstalled another dialer app, so that could have something to do with it. However, I don't see why that would be the case, but you never know with these things. Thinking about it now, I didn't remove telophony apps on the phone either, so that could also have something to do with it? Any ideas?

I'm trying to think of the different variables that could affect it, maybe something I did, that I didn't mention. Did you disable your stock dialer? Cause I tried it to today and it works super, transciptions and everything. Nothing should be different than the previous instructions, besides spoofing the device fingerprint. Maybe try disabling it and clearing data and then enabling it again?
Edit: I just read your previous posts. Never mind the stock dialer. This new method works with the latest Google phone update, so maybe try reverting your stock dialer back and then updating it?

I'm on AOSiP which ships with Google Phone Dialer by default. Could that be my problem?

That's a little beyond my expertise. I can only describe what I did, and those steps made it work for me. I haven't heard any other reports of it not working or working so we shall see. I'm thinking that the downloads for call screening are corrupted for you or something, if you're saying that the audio is not working, if you could clear that and start the process afresh?
