WiFi speeds - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Anyone tried testing WiFi download speed? Mine are horrendous! 2 mb dl??? Something is not right.
Nevermind, I needed a reboot on my router.

300/12 here, exactly what my isp gives me.

125/125 same as ISP

Slow WIFI connection...

How come I get so slow speeds when copying a file over WIFI from my desktop computer? I get about 420kb/s and when I check the WIFI connection the signal quality is 70% or higher and connected at Tx 54Mbps / Rx 48Mbps.. Shouldn't I get something like a few Mb/s with that connection??
Using Resco Explorer to access shared folder on desktop computer and copy files btw...
Is it set for best battery? If it is, that's the problem.
No.. Best performance...
Any idea why its only giving me 450ish Kb/s? What SHOULD I be getting with 54Mbps?
The WIFI router is a Zyxel P-320W btw.. It supports 802.11b/g..

if you read specification of your phone you should know this, taken from htc homepage
Up to 7.2 Mbps download speed
Up to 2 Mbps upload speed
so i dont think it matters if you got 54/48Mbps
this is my guess to your issue
someone right me if im wrong here..

Damn.. Thats slow.. Can't even watch XViD's over WIFI..
you might want to enable wireless N through either BSB Tweaks or

7.2 Mbps = HSDPA, 2 Mbps = HSUPA
NOT WiFi
So what is the supported WIFI speeds on the HD2? 802.11b/g is supposed to be alot faster than the ~5 mbits I seem to be getting Or is the network(WIFI/HSDPA etc) controller limited to 7.2mbps be it WIFI or through 3G?
Well, those 7.2mbps and 2.0mbps are probably not wireless specifications as they stand for HSDPA connection. Wireless speeds are specified by 802.11 standards, e.g. 802.11a supports up to 2mbps bandwidth, 802.11b up top 11mbps and 802.11g 54mbps. so, these should be the speedlimits for HD2. I have seen that it is possible to enable 802.11n for HD2 but i havent tryed it out yet as I have difficulties using wireless with my HD2 even with the slow speeds.
no matter where I try to use wifi, it works for ~30secs and after that the phone can't find any wireless networks, sometimes even hangs. After waiting for about 1 minute, it finds wifi again and same scenario happens again and again. It hasn't worked right from the moment I took it out of the box. should return it probably but before that, maybe someone has had same problem and knows what the reason is for that?

I want FASTER HERO wifi speeds?

Sorry is this sounds stupid but how come the wifi speeds on the hero suck, i have 24mb down and 3mb up and my phone only can pick up 1.50mb down and 1mb up? Like is this the standard for phones or something? Shouldnt they be able to handle way faster wifi speeds? I read something a while back how some kid hacked the nexus one to run wireless n drivers i dont know how true that was but he had a video to back it up so idk it seemed pretty legit to me. Is there anything i can do to increase wifi speeds because its about the same as running on evdo and that sucks donkey d**k. any responses are kool
Nexus One learns wireless n
UPDATE: Well i figured out why my wifi was only pulling only 1mb down on my hero it was because my routers settings were at wireless b only and b is old technology, so i changed my routers signal to wireless g and it jumped from 1mb to now its 5mb down. Problem solved...
Is 24 down/3 up your rated internet connection speed? Because I think you can really only get that kind of speed through a wired ethernet connection... wifi speeds cap out much earlier, even though routers might say 54 Mb/s ... which translates to ~6.75 MB/s, they never ever get that high in my experience. Note the different between Megabytes and Megabits. 8 bits = 1 byte.
TBH it sounds like you may have maxed out your wifi speed, depending on your wifi signal.

most of what you said is true. however you can get much faster out of a wireless router. I have seen up to 30mb out of a wireless router. that being said. depending on your signal strength to your router you may experience slow downs as the router resends packets that either get corrupted or never make it due to interference and/or attenuation.
i have experienced the same thing. i use my laptop wifi and my phone wifi within inches of each other and have widely different speed test results. no idea why unless there is either a restriction or limitation with the phones driver/chipset
ok not trying to be rude or anything but i dont think u guys are reading correctly; my internet that i pay for is 24mb and 3mb up, wireless with my laptop since its wireless N is about 18mb down and 2mb up, but im referring to MY PHONE (HERO), i know speeds are faster on ethernet but how am i going to plug my hero via ethernet? that what i was asking, my question was why does my phone only connect up to 1.50 mb out of whatever my max speed is, is that all the hero can handle is 1.50mb? I guess the title was misleading cause it said faster wifi speeds and not faster HERO wifi speeds but i corrected it but thanks for ur responses guys
What site are you using to check your speeds? If it's speedtest.net then you may have it set to megabytes instead of megabits. If my math is right (don't count on it being anywhere close) then your differences in speed could be blamed on that.
I don't know of any way to "make it faster" besides moving closer to the router.
Off-Topic: My sig has my speed at OSU and its via wi-fi. I've had double that when not at peak times.

there is a speedtest.net app in the android market and u can test ur speeds, my hero can only pick up 1.5mb down out of my 24mb max speed.
i am in same ...
get about 2MB up and 1MB down.
My speculation:
I think it is the HERO ..
it is capped
or it can only process the Data coming in.. at a slower speed.
raido or CPU or the combination

UPDATE: wow so i feel really stupid i just changed my routers settings from wireless b to wireless g and it went from 1mb down cap to 5mb ahahaha oh my i feel stupid, now my internet was flying i knew something was weird because 1mb down was like i was still on evdo but on wife it didnt make sense to me.
How did you change the router settings to g from b?

My down is .7 Mb and up is 2.5 Mb, I know way backwards! It dont matter what sever I use either, my router is set to G only, I even tried B and mixed, lol. I only pay for 12 down and 2 up, dang near exactly what I get on my PC, my hero just lags Runs same on wifi as it does on 3G both results are dang near the same!

This is working for you all, why isnt it working for me? I am set to wireless G on my router, ogged into to router by putting http://192.168.1.1/ into address bar, clicked wireless settings and changed from Mixed (b and g) to G. It didnt help my ol' hero Still got .7 Mb for down and 2.5 Mb for up. Totally backwards!
Did u try hitting apply in your router settings before u left the web page and waited for the page to close then try powering down ur router and powering it back up after waiting 3 to 5 min but this step you only need to do if you changed the router settings via wireless meaning if your changing your wireless settings while being connected to your wireless network IMO always changes ur router settings via landline and don't forget to hit apply if you didn't already do so just something to try hope it helps good luck

Yes, it was originally set to both B and G, this is a issue I have been having for a while now. I just never posted it, now that I seen this thread I decided to follow i and try whatever was recommended. My laptop gets the 12 down and same 2.5 up as my phone, just my phone only gets .7 Mb down. I have tried several servers, ran same servers as my laptop watching it pull 12 down and the hero .7 Is there a setting somewhere that is making me lag? I am using same kernels as everyone else, its been the same with all of them though
In cm6 settings / wifi setting wen u get there push the menu and go to advance wireless settings and select regulatory domains and try a different channel its set to 11 by default try that and hopefully that helps good luck oh and you might wanna go and pick up a new router or update ur current drivers on your existing one also take ur hero to a different wifi connection and test ur ul/dl speeds hope this helps

It's not the phone dude you need to get into your routers settings and make sure its set to g only if you are getting .7 dwn something is terribly wrong man. What kind of router do you have? For example if its a linksys Google linksys login the model number and it will tell you how to login. The Linksys gateway is usually 192.168.1.1 is how you login. Also Firefox and Google chrome don't usually play nice with intranet try using internet explorer to do this. I have a netgear router and to login its www.mywifiext.net. let me know details maybe I can help you
I have no problems accessing my router settings. I dud a little testing, swapping rom's and kernels. I found it to be a kernel issue. Running BFS #14 is .7 down. Switching to CFS kernel I pull the 2.5 down. So I tried BFS #13, same issue. I posted in the kernel thread and didn't get any response. The posts get buried pretty fast in that thread. My phone does better with the BFS kernels, besides the wifi issue. What if anything can be echo into kernel to fix this? Or can someone else flash BFS and confirm please.
Thanks

I'm running bfs right now and I get 5.5mb dwn and 1.5mb up and I switched back to stable same thing. It can't be your kernel man that's almost I'm possible. How about you flash the same rom you are already on right on top of your current rom to reflash the default kernel image back on your phone and run the speed test app on your phone then run speed test.net in your browser to see your scores. If you are not on wifi your connection wont be all that great I can barely get 1mb dwn sometimes when on evdo but once I jump on wifi I get 5mb dwn and its same for me with bfs and cfs kernel I just tested it. I'm not sure I understand your problem correctly. I posted this thread because while on WIFI my wireless router was set to wireless b settings which was only allowing my phone to pull 1mb dwn on WIFI which was crazy to me cause I have 24mb dwn internet package. Our heroes only can really pull about 6 or 7mb dwn at the maximum. So changing settings in my router fixed that for me.
I am having a totally different issue than you were, both were slow down speeds, I was just hoping mine would be fixed the sane way yours was. My down speeds are not only slow at my home, but everywhere. McDonald, Starbucks, unsecured routers. BFS with any rom only gives me 0.7 Mb download while in wifi. If I run CFS my download improve to 2.5 Mb, that is my wifi. I haven't tested outside of my network with the CFS kernel. I feel speeds would increase where they can with CFS though. I have no clue what can be causing this, it's the sane on all roms, aosp, extremely blue, cm6.1, cm6.0
Thanks

[Q] Wifi Streaming Lags

Guys
I have not been able to stream 5 secs of the transformer video or any youtube video without significant stutter and lag. I have plenty of speed with my home wifi as far as i know. I have 20+mbs with Comcast and never have issues with my wifi.
what could be wrong...is it my N7 or my router?
I'm so happy someone else has this issue. Well not happy but happy to know I'm not the only one. I have 30+ download on my home WiFi and it lags when I try to watch YouTube also. Its very annoying. It can't be my WiFi because I have tried several other devices and they work great. Hopefully an update will come and fix soon because I'm an avid youtuber. But yeah your not the only one man.

I was having a issue watching transformers as well, I also rented a movie using my credit and never finished it because of lag.

try do a speed test see what's the through put you get on your device. Also, in the wifi setting, see at what speed you are connecting to your wifi router.
Speed test is 27mbps and my WiFi settings speed is 54mbps. I don't see a problem?

yea, doesn't seem like any problem with your connection. Did you try streaming via other apps such as hulu or only lags in youtube?
Some thing you can try:
1. wipe youtube memory and try it again. You can even try uninstall it and download a fresh copy from the market. If still lags, try #2
2. install the flash apk and try streaming youtube via another browser such as Dolphin HD and see how it works out.
what would you suggest I use for a speed test?
using speed test.net app my speeds are
1659 kbps DL
and
4592 kbps UL
seems like i might have a router problem if that's all i'm getting on the DL
my hardwired LAN gets 24 Mbps

If that's the speed you are getting through a router then there is a problem, perhaps router related.
Go to wifi setting on N7, tap on your current wifi connection, it should tell you the speed you are connected. Ideally it should be 54mbps or higher depend on your setup, but based on your numbers it seems it's connected at much lower speed, below 15mbps I'd guess. My 3g dl speed is even higher than that.
use your phone or another wifi device to do a speed test again, if similar low number then check your router's wifi configuraiton or change a router.
Last night I was on Netflix watching Weeds and the only time there were any hiccups was at the beginning of the episode when Netflix was adjusting the quality to my internet connection. By the end of the theme song there was no noticeable stutters and I believe it had upgraded to HD 720p. So Netflix seems to not be a problem.

My Cell phone HTC One S is even worse on wifi....352 kbps DL speeds.
I have a pretty new router. this doesn't make sense to me.
I just noticed the cap-out link speed of 65Mbps too. The manual says that the N7 is 802.11b/g/n capabile, so I figured I should see at least 150Mbps (if not 300Mbps like my laptop).
Anyone else noticing this low cap-out? Is this a software issue of the N7 or a hardware issue that I should have my unit exchanged for?

Normal G router will have max of 54mbps so looks like you have a N router since you are connected at 65Mbps. Some wireless N router can only output 150mbps and some will do 300mbps. Most of modern mobile device's wifi N adapter is only rated up to 150mbps however. 65mpbs is really on the low side for N network but still sufficient unless you wish to do a lot streaming withing your own network. Keep in mind that, if you have both G and N wireless device connected to your router at the same time, the link speed will be reduced depend on your router's configuration.

I have verified that I can connect to the router\access points in my place at speeds between 242-300Mbps no problem. I have no G devices connected. It appears that the N7 is capping out a 65Mbps.
My question was whether anyone else (other than Rugged96 and myself) is seeing this in their WiFi connection info?

I guess N7 will have a max of 65mbps just like most of the phones out today mainly due to the single antenna. To get higher N speed you need multiple antennas (MIMO)
I won't be able to deconstruct my router until later tonight. I am working from home and need to stay focused....

So it is a limitation of the physical hardware...That is good to know. I was worried that something was wrong with my tablet.
Thanks!
Man that is BS!!!! Your telling Me I can't watch an HD movie on YouTube because the tablet went let me??? Why do they even have the option to go HD then? My internet pushes out 35mbps. That should be more then enough to run HD.

No problems here. Watched transformers Friday night with no problem. Sunday my wife used the timewarner app to watch NASCAR. I have even used the watch ESPN with no problems tethering from HOX. Not saying its not your N7 but it sounds like a problem with your network. Unplug cable modem for a min or do a reset through the GUI. Maybe reset the router while at it.

"Internet connection too slow" notification

Hey kids.
I came from the S3 the beginning of November. One of the "new" annoyances I've come across is a notification that the wifi connection Internet speed is too slow. Which is bull. The only way to reconnect after that is to reboot. Sometimes enabling airplane mode does it as well. So my question is twofold. Has anyone else come across this? Has anyone figured out how to turn this stupid setting off?
Thanks in advance.

I haven't encountered any of these problems. My Wi-Fi signal it's weak at times, but when I have a good connection internet speed is fast
If I helped hit thanks!!
im not saying this will fix your problem, but i was getting these messages as well. I switched my wifi power saving off via service menu. I also changed my router band from 2.4ghz to 5ghz 40 bandwidth and i havnt seen the message in about 2 weeks.

Thanks. Actually did the power save to off this morning. Happened again this afternoon. As far as switch to 5ghz, I've found that my wifi signal's reach gets cut by about 20-30 feet on that band. Which means I lose reception in part of my basement. I can move my router more centrally in the house, but overall speed suffers (goes from a solid 8-10mbps connection to about 1.5 mbps) cuz the wiring to that receptical is sketchy.
I can get that stupid message in the same room as the router.

yeah 5ghz band will cut your signal strength in half probably. Maybe buy a dual band wireless access point? Its wierd that your speed goes down on 5ghz. Mine practically doubled on my note 3. My house connection is 100mbps / 5mps. On 2.4ghz i can only get up to 30 mbps, when i enabled 5ghz wifi, i shot up to ~110mbps down.

that's ridiculous... buy another router or access point? Its the phone, not the internet, when you get the notification when you're right next to the router. The Note 3 is the only device on my house giving me Wi-Fi issues. Sorry I don't mean to sound like an arse, but it seems silly to buy a phone and have to replace your router, when everything else works just fine with the WiFi signal.
Just to clear up, speed goes down when I connect to the other phone plug. So my router (brand new, furnished by internet provider) is on one side of my house. And this happened before moving in mid Nov as well. Before was cable Internet, now dsl. It's the best thing I can get @ current location.
I'm not sure if it will actually solve anything, but I received the latest update ota. Tomorrow gonna download latest firmware and flash via odin avter wiping everything with safestrap.

I'm having the same issues. How do I do the steps above? Kind of's a noob and I don't know what the service menu is and where to switch my bandwidth. Can I get a step by step please?

Kancerstick pretty much had it right. Rather than switching the band from direct 2.4 to 5.0 though, go into your router settings and look for a setting that says "channel".
What channel are you running on? There are 1-11 channels, try different ones or the idea is to find the one that matches the channel of the phone/client device

Ok, I see what you're saying. I'll check that out when I get home. Thanks!

This post subject caught my eye... I wish there was an xposed module to disable this function. Anytime my wifi connects to my canon eos this notification always comes up and sometimes ruins the connection

The one solution that did work for me was to go into the WIFI Settings -> Advanced option under the menu key -> Uncheck the "Auto network switch" option. I haven't had any further issues with that message so far.
tried everything...
I think I have tried everything on this issue. I got my note 3 a few days ago and it will not keep a stable network connection. tried:
1. uncheck the auto switch
2. turn off mobile networks
3. turn off wifi when sleeping
4 changed my router to static ip and not DCHP
5. forget and reconnect to network
6. reset router
I don't thing I can change my router settings anymore or I will have issues with other equipment
I am sitting right next to my router and everything else works fine but my note 3 will not keep a connection. I keep running speed test and half the time it works and half the time I get a no connection error.
Any other thoughts? Should I try another unit?

Latest update breaks 5 ghz wifi

So I finally figured this out - pre the latest update 5 ghz wifi on the Oneplus 6t worked flawlessly. Then the latest update came down (ironically over 5 ghx wifi) applied and rebooted and poof 5 ghz wifi no longer works. It connects, it gets ip, it can see the router everything looks normal but if i try to go anywhere on the internet - it tells me i am off line . 2.4 ghz wifi works just fine but the 5 ghz is broke. It took me a while to find this because I would auto switch to wifi at work and at home and didn't realize what was going on. Playstore would not download, app updates never came trhough. If I turned wifi off it all worked but then I am eating my data plan. Just an FYI to anyone having odd issues suddenly.
Weird. Mine still works fine on 5 GHz after 9.0.11 update (8/256 OP direct, totally stock unrooted).

On 5ghz as well. I've had no issues at all after any of the updates. On 9.0.11, unlocked/rooted.
No issues with mine on 9.0.11.
I have they same problem!
I have the same issue.
For those, who say it works, turn mobile data off and try to browse on wifi 5ghz...

Turned off mobile, still able to browse on wifi 5ghz.
Turned off mobile and wifi. Reconnected to wifi 5ghz. Still able to browse.
Turned on Airplane Mode. Reconnected to wifi 5ghz. Still able to browse.
Sorry. Can't reproduce issue.
For those that it works on 5 ghz - what band is your 5ghz on - if you check your wifi under network details see if it says 5 ghz or defaulting 2.4? (some people have combined wifi that will place you on what ever network is fastest) - also if you could show post your link speed (show on the Oneplus 6t under network details for wifi
Actually - I did a quick test and I could be incorrect. I set up a guest network with 5 ghz no password and got on it just fine and can pull 400 Mbs. My network password is complex so that might be what is causing the issues . I am going to experiment with a shorter password to see if that fixes it - but that would be a shame if that is the fix as it worked just fine before.

On tmobile, unlocked, flashed through twrp, no issue 5ghz as far as i can tell.
So I experimented more. Here are the results. No matter what I did to my internal wifi I could not get a connection on 5 Ghz. No issues on 2.4 with a long pw, a short pw- aes or tkip wpa or wpa2. But cannot, will not go anywhere on 5 ghz. Here is the odd thing. I can set up guest wifi on my router so I did. I set it up with no pw and boom, 2.4 g, 5 ghz1 and 5ghz2 - all of it. Then I turned on wpa/wpa2 and encryption (auto/aes/tkip) and set a password...and boom. Still working?? Exact same set up internal Wifi - nothing same issues. It's Bizarre. I turned off all the fancy settings for internal wifi like link sharing, fastest connection - I separeated them out to 2.4g/5G1/5g2 just like my guest and ...nothing. I can connect all day long but it just cannot get to anything on the internet. So for now I guess I am stuck using my guest network.
To the others who said they have the issue - what brand of router? - Mine is the TP-LINK AC5400
working fine here, verified that 5ghz is connected in settings

This sounds like it's a DCHP server issue with your router.

can't be - dhcp is band agnostic and it works - I get an ip address on 2.4 and 5 ghz just cannot get anywhere on 5ghz when using my home internal router set up - plus when I set up guest network on the same router I am just fine. And it worked just fine before the latest Oxygen update (that and I have about 18 devices on wifi all working just fine - including my oneplus 6 running the same Oxygen update - ) Has to be a bug of some kind.
Same problem here, oneplus 6T and Oxygen 9.0.11. I have this bug since update from 9.0.10 to 9.0.11.
I'm not on TMobile (see on reddit about oneplus_6t_update_breaks_google_play_certification), i'm in Italy with TIM operator.
I have problems with Fastweb Fastgate Router (Askey RTV1907VW), wifi 5ghz is connected but i can't browse, i can't do a speedtest from App on OnePlus 6T, etc.
But now in my office, i have a Vodafone 5GHz router, and i don't have any issue!
Could be a problem of the "channel" for 5Ghz wifi connection?
