I'm creating this thread to have a central spot for my updates on the Skype Video mod I'm doing. My objective is making skype video to support all devices from FROYO to the latest android version and to support more devices as possible.
The latest build can be found HERE
Another XDA member theos0o also did a Skype video mod that works for more GB devices. If my files don't work, try his updated files in this thread HERE
For those who want to make their own icons, you can follow this instruction from angusc HERE
NOTE: VIDEO CALLING WORKS FOR NEON SUPPORTED DEVICES ONLY (mostly ARM Cortex A8). Lower end devices and Tegra 2 devices are not yet supported)
Tried both files and I still cannot send video. The oter person only sees my video as loading. I'll see if I can get a logcat.
Had to use alogcat (adb doesn't play nice with this tablet), let me know if it's enough information otherwise I'll try to get ADB to really work.

com.skype.raider-2-onecam.zip working ok on my HTC HD2 with TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.4.0 Android 2.3.4 GB ROM. Outgoing and incoming video working ok. My video (outgoing) is coming from the rear camera, no mirroring left-right, so all is perfect!
Thanks, droidrx!
com.skype.raider-2-onecam.zip -Partially working on HTC DESIRE HD 2.3.3 stock.
When trying to connect I see pictures from my camera, but when connected - my picture goes black

Tried both files, and other files on XDA, but always get the same result like Parastie has above.
Can receive video, but cannot send. Picture stays black. My tablet only has a front cam, choosing between back or front cam has no use. When I choose front cam is just places my black picture to the front. When I choose back camera it just places my black picture to the back.
Hop someone can fix it
Sorry its not working with htc click. Both application not working.

Interesting observation; I've given the same froyo apk that works for me to my buddy with an almost identical SGS and it doesnt work for him (his video isn't shown, black screen).
I'll meet him in person later today to see what the differences between our devices are and will report after.
i9003 Froyo XXKB3
Almost works with i9003 2.2.1 XXKB3
dual cam version:
Rear Camera works perfect.
Front cam works perfect in preview mode before the other side picks up, after the other end picks up, it shows the front camera with interrupted by a green screen about once a second..
Attaching logs for both states
Just tried, works well with the front camera on a Sidekick 4G.
Got a couple of freezes, but it comes back after a few seconds.
Thanks !!!!!

Hrm, I'm completely lost. Two identical SGS, bought at the same seller within a short timeframe, same ROM, same kernel, same modem, same tweaks, same file systems. The only difference is the theme.
On one the froyo apk works (mine), on the other doesn't (black screen from both front and rear cams, my buddy's).
The only thing I could suspect is that he's using a Gingerbread-styled theme, which possibly could substitute some system files or something?
Samsung Galaxy Tab,
I can confirm it working, only problem is the video is on, the picture is shown on the side? like if i hold the tablet Vertically, the picture shows horizontally, weird?
Thanks
Hello. Chinese pad Cortex-A9 NEC Renesas EV2 Dual Core CPU Android 2.2.
I see the other person, I have a black square.
Sorry google translator.
Tried on a CM7 Moto Defy. Connected to desktop (without cam). Doesn't work. Logcat enclosed.
Thx!
Hi,
Couldnt get the other version posted at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1148708 to work, so we tried this one.
The video is wierd though. Once the video call connected, it switched to horizontal mode. So in order to view the other person right side up, I turned my phone so that they are right side up, but then the other person sees me sideways. If I put myself right side up in the video, then I am viewing them sideways.
Guys, I added more APKs in the main post. I did a few changes that can affect the camera and added features for NO "autorun" and the "Exit" button.
For those with wrong camera rotation, please test the one I built that adds 90 degrees rotation and let me know if it actually changed the orientation. For those with blinking videos, try also the new APKs.
For those with blank screen, I still haven't found the problem. I got a hint that it could be the size of the screen vs the sizes supported by the camera but I can't pinpoint what to look at. I will post the smali codes tomorrow so other devs can help us fix it.

The 90 degrees build rotates the image that you see on your screen from your cam while initiating video call (or when the opponent's cam isn't active). The image is also distorted (like height and width changed places).
This applies ONLY to the image that you see on full screen when initiating video call. Actual video being sent to opponent doesnt change nor does what you see in your mini preview.
The build works nicely on Froyo, Exit button is very cool.
Thanks, hope this helps resolve the rotation issue.
EDIT: Thought I'd elaborate about the rotation behaviour in a more detailed fashion:
- video call is always in landscape mode, both image from opponent's cam and mini-image from own cam;
- when I hold the phone vertically, mini-image is correct;
- when I hold the phone horizontally, mini-image is rotated 90 degrees clockwise;
- at the same time, at the opponent's screen, my image is rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise;
- as I said earlier, when opponent's cam is turned off, my image from own cam takes up the whole screen and in vertical orientation is correct, while in horizontal it's upside down (180 degrees rotated). Personally I don't care about this one though.
Hope this helps.
Someone told me it works fine with Huawei Ideos X5!
Good job droidrx. Thanks for the effort.
It seems to work ok for Ideos X5 with b136 Rom, thanks.
just so you know guys I have tested "com.skype.raider-froyo.zip " from the old thread and it works just perfect on HTC Desire unrooted, stock ROM
I love my Galaxy Camera and to be fair there isn't a great deal wrong with it but I thought I would share just a few niggles I have found that I hope Samsung could improve on.
1) is the prompt on a cold boot asking if you want to use the external SD card as the default storage. Make it the default permanently (just like you can on a smartphone).
2) is the default action of extending the lens when you turn on the camera. It's handy for a quicker shot I agree but it worries me that the barrel might get damaged that time you accidently turn it on in inside a bag or coat or the annoyance of sending the camera off balance as you hold it to check your emails. I believe a setting to toggle this feature on and off could be implemented.
3) the setting for voice activated camera functions is not remembered. You know when you frantically keep saying "Cheese" only to find it's turned itself off.
4) the default keyboard is reset to stock keyboard on a cold boot. I prefer Swiftkey but have to reset this every time I cold boot.
5) the cover on the USB port is fiddly to remove to charge the camera. I agree there should be some sort of cover as it would be ugly without one, but it's a pain to open and the flap gets in the way of the cable. I am sure a slightly better design could be found.
6) no auto screen brightness setting.
7) for such an expensive camera, why wasn't some sort of case included in the box?
These aren't major issues and the Pro's outway the Con's in abundance. I just thought I would share my observations to anyone interested and maybe add your own. Perhaps someone at Samsung might even take them on board!

I just received my Galaxy Camera today and I have to say I am very impressed with it. Setup was a breeze (I'm used to Android) and I was up and snapping pretty quickly. Without reading the non existent manual (I downloaded a PDF version from Samsung) I was able to take pictures MUCH better than I did with my previous S3, or my current Nexus 4, all on Auto settings (which is good as I know nothing about cameras).
I would agree about the annoyances, but I know about most of them before I even got the camera, and I personally don't think they are enough to put someone off buying this camera.
point 1: I think this is exactly the same as on smartphones right now, but on smartphones you rarely open the camera app before the memory card is mounted.
if the camera app would start after the memory card is mounted it would probably remember your previous setting, but because it's the first app to start it will always revert to internal storage.
point 4: not specifically a galaxy camera problem.
I have smart keyboard pro installed, and its always smart keyboard pro that pops up.
I haven't seen the Samsung keyboard since the day I got my camera.
point 6: this is something they can't add anymore.
the galaxy camera has no light or proximity sensors so it has to rely on the camera sensor for brightness, which is only really doable in the camera app(which is also the only place where you have automatic brightness)

Thanks for the tip.
But there's more...
- if the tiny lens cover gets wet (one or two raindrops are enough) it doesn't shut properly anymore
- the gallery app is extremely slow if you have more than just 10 folders. I have about 40 picture folders on dropbox and as the app syncs all the folders it takes ages to scroll through them
- the media service grows and grows until the internal memory is full, I had to delete its data several times already
- user expericience is not consistent: in the gallery there are no Android buttons, for going back to a previous page/folder you need to reach up to the upper edge of the screen for the return or home buttons
- the zoom rocker should be more sensitive or even two-staged. The steps the barrel does now are too big in my opinion.
- there should be a WB option in Auto mode.
Except the first point those are all software related issues which might or might not be resolved in a future update....

If I'm not mistaken QuickPic doesn't support Dropbox... And that's crucial with all my important pictures being there.
I have been on vacation for the past 10 days mostly. Using my wife's iPhone for pics, which has made me realize how bad the OP 6t native camera app is. Two pain points in particular:
1) Two finger zoom is extremely choppy, jumping in increments that make it difficult to compose well
2) Pano stitching misses at least 30% of the time, often grossly so, and often in good light
3) No voice triggers for the camera. Maybe I need to observe proper technique from Asian ladies but I find it near impossible to compose and trigger the shutter when doing a selfie with the missus with an outstretched hand. I used to have a LG many moons ago they you could configure to respond to "cheese" and "kimchi".
Any suggestions? I understand that third party apps loose access to the detailed hardware drivers, filtering and demosaic algorithms, but it is not like OP does a particularly good job at that too (colors are too saturated and the overall rendition is often quite dark).

Wow, just what the doctor ordered. Can't quite figure out if it does panos but that is probably because of the gazillion settings I have to go through. I also can't get the 6t to launch it by default with a power button double tap. Still goes for the stock app despite me setting open cam as the default camera app. Maybe I need to reboot.

Try this Jean Luc mod apk with your favorite config file. There are also picture samples for each config. I prefer velvia.
Put the xml file in /gcam/configs. Install and open the camera apk and double tap the area next to the shutter button. You can load the config then.

Double tap power button to open a custom camera is only possible when phone is unlocked already. OOS feature...
Sorry for being dumb but... I created /gcam/configs, put a couple of XML files in there, installed the app, launched it, but when I double tap I get "you do not have any configs files".
Does gcam need to be under sdcard or in the root?
Never mind, figured it out, gcam needs to be in sdcard.
As to configuring a custom camera app to launch with double clicking the power button - I am on OOS unlocked. Do I need to install a button remapper?

Thanks but it is not case sensitive, I have it all lower case and it works fine.
I use a combination of Camera FV-5, when I have time to set everything because I'm picky (also 40 years using film SLR and D-SLR's) and when I'm in a hurry, the google camera that was ported for the Pixel phone I had. It's faster than the Camera FV-5.
The native camera app, as you mention, SUCKS.

Agreed. This is the place to go.
I was up until 430 am last night trying different configs and Gcam APKs and the best I can do was using 6.1 or 6.2. No crashes but these 3 problems are present in every APK I tried so if there's anyone that has an APK that works for these, would love to hear it.
Problems:
1) Camera takes first picture quite fast. 2nd picture is slightly slower. 3rd and beyond is unbelievably slow. Slower than Night Sight. You can tell that the picture is being taken all at the same rate because the picture is showing up in the Gallery Icon, but the viewfinder is just loading and hanging.
What is the reason for this? (HDR Enhance is NOT on)
2) Turn off HDR+ and camera button doesn't even work. It works in Portrait and video but not in regular camera mode.
3) If I switch Cameras or modes (From regular camera to wide... or regular camera to Portrait and then back to regular) then it will take the picture fast. Which means that it's a software issue of lagging. Almost like it's lagging or having problems clearing memories while taking consecutive pictures?
Night Sight and actual photos look GREAT. Which is why it's pissing me off. The VG35 is a godly phone I just bought and I love everything about it. But the camera is lacking. And having a somewhat partially working gcam app just teases me that the picture could be better but isn't. The camera itself is good it's just the software that isn't so great.
LG's stock camera app puts on a lot of sharpness everything gets so blurry.
Any FULLY working apks out there that don't have issues with lag when taking pictures?
UPDATE: I tried cstark and a few others but the one that works for me fully (Night Sight, portrait, wide lens, correct colors, etc) is Arnova 1.7 here
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-suggested/#apk411
Arnova 1.6 also works.
So I managed to fidget with all the settings and basically... here is an update. AS IS, the Gcam with Arnova takes 2 pictures at regular speed. The 3rd picture on, it will show the circle and lag, taking about 5 full seconds to complete a picture. (There are other people on reddit who confirmed this) If you change the camera view in any way, OR press the home button and come back to camera, it resets allowing you take 2 more pictures at normal rates before it starts to slow down again.
By reducing HDR frame from 7 to 3, it allows you to take about 5 pictures before the slow down happens. So, it's not ideal but a workaround is to just take 5 pictures and press "portrait" and then come back to regular camera and it should allow for 5 more pictures at the regular rate.
HDR off also does not allow the camera to take a picture.
But that being said, does anyone know WHY it's happening? I don't know much about how android and the camera works but if we can figure out why the loading circle starts to slow down after a certain # of pictures, and WHY it resets when you change the camera view for a split second... I'd be happy to contribute in any way I can to get a fully useable Gcam app for us. V35s are so underrated with the High Quality Dac and if we get fully working Gcam, it would be a massive upgrade for anyone with a V35.
The pictures with Gcam are no joke.
The reasons for why the Gcam can only take a few pictures before it starts to load in the viewfinder very slowly, and why it resets when you "refresh" the camera view:
(These are complete uneducated guess but using logic based on what I'm been testing)
- It's not related to HDR. There was 1 apk that allowed me to take pictures with HDR off and it still did it.
I thought it was the HDR processing in the background that was queueing up but that's not the case.
- Changing camera view and switching back, RESETS this problem. Is there some sort of memory that needs to be cleared in the camera after each picture? Or after each # of pictures you can set that might address this problem?
There was another APK that I used that had the ability to increase the memory and it didn't do anything.
- I have a feeling it might be related to the buffer fix issue. The buffer fix, fixed the lag in the view finder. However, after taking a few pictures and hitting the limit, you can tell the loading circle will start to slow down because the viewfinder for a split second will lag as if the buffer fix was turned off.
So, maybe buffer fix is being reset or paused after a few pictures?
I wish I knew more about this stuff but if anyone has any ideas, would be great.

This is the one that works very well. There is .a work around for the camera shutter loading really slow after 2 pictures.. and that is the setting called Reinit for HDR+. Just turn it on and after every time you take a picture, your camera and viewfinder will reinitialize and blink for a split second. Every picture taken is fast. You just have to wait a full second in between pictures or so.
Its way better and more useable and waiting 6 seconds for each picture.
Night Sight works without ANY lag, so does portrait, wide angle, etc.
Things that do not work at all:
- HDR Off mode
- Flash (goes off doesnt take a picture)
This is a useable version for me.
I also also narrow down and say the shutter loading slow is caused by something in the "buffer fix" setting. If you turn off buffer fix, the camera will take a picture INSTANTLY. Like the stock LG cam. However, the viewfinder has that crazy lag so you cant see what you're taking a picture of.
i tried above but when its low light it freezes. i'm on at&t v350 /w PIE (20c)

OK, so I spent all day trying a bunch of versions, and finally found the one version that can get rid of the color issue and the lag between shots. Here it is:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-arnova8G2-beta/#apk1114
With this one, make sure to enable both the "Use Restart for AUX Mod" and "Use Reinit for HDR+" settings in the "HDR+ control" menu. Make sure to enable the AUX button as well, and disable Google photos. You'll see the screen go black a little bit after taking a photo, and then you can take another one and switch cameras. When you switch cameras, it reinits the camera app, which gets rid of the channel swap issue. For some reason the other version that was linked has an issue when both these settings are enabled, but it works great with this version.

Glad someone finally found the right one, but the link you gave us only leads to a list of many gcam apks, which one exactly did you mean? Also, by disabling google photos, you mean that we have to disable it completely or just disable it somehow from gcam?
The version that I linked to blinks when you first open the page. It's V2.2.1.190831.2245-fix-2. As far as disabling Google photos, it's a setting inside the camera app that uses Google photos as the viewer when you look at the photo you just took. However, this integration doesn't work, so disable that so it uses the built in viewer. You'll also need to go to the About screen in settings and turn on advanced options to see most of the settings I've listed.
Thanks! It really works great, taking pictures is fast and even night mode is quick.
Good job on finding this

Hello,
I have found this version works on the V35.... Gcam_6.2.030_Advanced_BF_V2.2.1.190831.2245-fix2.apk. Wide Angle, Regular, Night Sight. However getting the white balance just right for both indoors and outdoors is not easy, so I I actually use a dual install combo for slightly better results:
OUTDOORS/Regular - Gcam_6.1.021_Advanced_BF_V1.6-Fu24_5Lens-02.apk - With this version I can customize sharpness without loading custom libs, etc. White balance is yellow indoors, and Night Sight has buffer problems so I don't use it.
INDOORS/Night Sight - Gcam_6.2.030_Advanced_BF_V2.2.1.190822.1145.apk - This version does well indoors with Night Sight... outdoor photos are pinkish however
You *should* be able to install both these versions without overwriting each other...

Near as I can tell this works perfect after following the indicated settings. No need for a buffer fix module, it's built in. Night sight works, viewfinder works properly in wide / normal etc etc.
thanks for mentioning it, there are so so many available that *might* work, a daunting task to try them all.

Camera on my 6t focuses initially, ( when screen touched ) but after "fire" button is pressed, goes out of focus an instant before capturing image. Image is indeed out of focus.
This happens on all of the camera apps I've tried, but does not happen when capturing images within Google Voice, which I use for messaging.
I've looked for info on this problem online, and although I've found a number of other problems mentioned, I've seen nothing on this, specifically.
Screen recording and video below illustrates the problem. Any insights into this issue greatly appreciated!

Finally someone with the sane problem as I! Did you figure out what's wrong. I've tried installing Gcam and OOS camera apks but they fail to open.
Looking forward to your reply.
Open Camera is the only app which reliably focuses for me.
A Solution, Perhaps?

Sorry for the delay. I wasn't monitoring this thread.
I loaded Open Camera, which seems to provide a solution. In the main camera screen, there is a camera icon with a "+". This allows you to select a specific Camera, though I'm not sure exactly what is being "selected". Cameras 2 and 3 seem to work, while Camera 1 has this focus issue.
In addition, in the camera settings, there is an option to select "Camera API". Camera 2 API allows manual focus, something I was looking for. Let me know if this helps...

Amazing, that made my day. OpenCamera lets me use either the bottom or the top camera but also the combination of both to produce a blur effect in a similar way to the stock ROM. I didn't think that was possible without stock.
Up until now I would just reboot my phone and the out of focus issue was gone for a little while. This is much better though.
It makes me wonder : I also sometimes have an issue with the flash where the timing is just ever so slightly wrong, i.e the photo is taken just a split second after the light flash, which effectively gives the same result as if the flash was turned off. Again, a reboot fixes it temporarily. Does any of you also have this issue ?
