Twrp? - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Hi i recently bought G6 (H870).
I ve been on stock about 2 months and i can see that stock rom holds a lot of perfomance back.
So i think im going to use custom rom.
Can someone direct me to up to date twrp instalation guidance?

Tried to unlock my bootloader.
After selecting "start unlocking bootloader" from lg site it directed me to login. So i typed my password and clicked log in.
Then it loaded about 30 sec, then i saw msssage from page: "Service unavailable"
I even made a new account but the problem still exist.
What should i do?

Just follow this guide step by step sliowly.

How is it holds performance back? I want to go for a custom rom too, but bluetooth voice over telephone not working and the camera solutions are really bad.

The ui is kinda unstable and laggy and performance in games quite bad compared to other phones what should run games worse than LG G6 + there are apps that i see unnecessary. Also the theme engine is poor. But there are some features im gonna miss like grayscale, AOD, lockscreen swipe effects, the rain drops on the lockscreen when its raining outside(Weather animations), custom shortcuts (No need for xposed), and cloud integration in file manager, music and gallery.

SOLVED for some HUAWEI Y6 types : How to root this device ?

SOLVED !
Hi,
Which ROOT options do i have for this device? SCL-L01 (other versions : see UPDATE)
For some unknown reason this solution does not seem to work everytime on this types.
But better give it a try
You do not need to unlock your phone.
Just install :
http://www.appsandroidapk.com/tools/kingroot/
http://androidmtk.com/download-kingroot-application
UPDATE : known versions of Kingroot working : succeeded feedback by other members but not always succesfull.
SCL-L01 4.5.2 Build : SCL-L01C432B130, SCL-L01C150B140
SCL-L02 4.6.5
SCL-L03 4.6.5 Build : SCL-L03C25B130
SCL-U31 4.8.0 Build : SCL-U31C185B140 (but with unlocked bootloader)
(another user : with unlocked bootloader, sim card out, wifi ON, Kingroot 4.8.0 = success)
I suggest you try all versions when above list is not working for you. You'll never know ...
Feel free to post your rooted phone's BUILD number please to help others.
Removed bloatware and apps with any app like link2sd etc...Installed AdFree to remove all ads
Thnx !
Solved !
you do not to unlock your phone.
Just install :

Just install this version AND only this ( the only one that works ) v4.5.2 and it worked for me.

It's permanent. No worries. Let the app do its work.
Best thing is that you do not need to unlock bootloader etc. like some users propose to do. So not necessary to ask unlock code @Huawei. (warranty stays)
If i am not mistaken you can unroot too. (warranty not sure after root)

Well, that was the point. I want to buy this for my friend and want to be sure I can root without unlocking the bootloader, So thanks a lot. I wonder why other owners say it didn't work for them.
Do you have the dual sim / 2gb version ?
Cheers.

Hi,
i remember by running Kingroot the first time it said it didn't go by the usual "quick" root.
But after that message i could choose to do it 'manually' by selecting just a button to continue.
After that it went running for a couple of minutes, even a couple of time it rebooted and after that it said "rooted succesfully"
Checked it with rootchecker--OK !
Other apps like solid explorer, link2sd ect. asked for permissions to grant, so i am rooted by that way.
? Do you have the 2gb version with 2 sims ?

Yes, the sreens are taken after root.
Mine is a 1gb/1sim. Perhaps this will cause the problem. I do not now. But i suppose the 2gb/2sims might normally work too.
Perhaps someone with a Y6 2gb/2sims might give it a try and give feedback to this situation.
PS : Have you succeeded sofar?
Rooting happened like video. Just to give you an example how it went.
First it said "root is unavailable" and after that you just tap "START ROOT".

This well known Android German forum has a quite big thread about it:
android-hilfe.de/thema/huawei-y6-rooten-des-geraetes.724309
I don't read German but with a bit of help from google translate I can see that nobody there has succeeded to get root access without unlocking the botloader.
Seems like the OP here had luck with his phone. Perhaps huawei forgot to lock his bootloader?

Nope they didn't forget....
I DID check the status of my phone,my friend. Did you?
Use minimal ADB and fastboot - go in ADB and check with " ADB reboot bootloader"
You will see your status my friend...it WAS locked. So don't be that suspicious...it worked with mine
Perhaps sent a mail @KingRoot like i did..perhaps they will look into it like they answered me

Cheers m8, I wasn't suspicious it was just a little joke, but I'm glad to hear that you've checked the lock status. :good:
It looks like the 2gb/dual-sim type (to my knowledge that's the only type available in Europe) can not yet be rooted without unlocking the bootloader. Would be nice if it could though...
Got mine here...as a gift because i'm a gold member

Lol, dag buurman! Hi there neighbour I'm from Holland
My knowledge is indeed lacking, I stand corrected! I only saw the 2gb/dual sim version in the Dutch and German sites and presumed it was Huawei's Europe import policy.
It's available here for 136 euros from belsimpel.nl but I don't have it yet. I wanted to get it for a friend and dual sim is a must for her. I only want to root it, replace the hosts files to get rid of ads and unroot it again, so she gets no problems with ota updates and warranty and such.
Are you generally happy with this phone? Are the audio and call quality satisfactory?
Thanks a lot!

Hi neighbour ! Indeed a small word
No problem ! There are 3 versions of it.
But i thought you've bought the phone already and tried Kingroot...
I use this phone as an interim because my ZP999 is in first aid :crying: Screen total loss...
But by unrooting this phone and deleting all unnecessary stuff and linking all the apps to my 2nd partition of SD it became a rather quick and very decent phone indeed! From the 1GB RAM i've always 500MB free.
There is no lack in opening apps. Battery is more than satisfactory (3 days normal use, 2 days no problem when making a bunch of phone calls like i do etc. ). Battery-charge cycle less than 1 hour.
Design is good. Slim body
Phone call : good but they put a rather hard blocking noice reduction in it, so when you have somebody on the phone and he/she does not say anything, sound is totally gone - that's a bit different with all the other phones i've got : caller voice and background sounds are hearable all the time. But you get used to it with this phone).
Touchscreen is very good even looking at a small angle is more than good. Backlight clarity ok.
GPS excellent! Wifi and carrier connect : excellent ! 4G top !
Sound when playing music : very good ( better then my ZP999)
So in general : worth the 130 euro's :cyclops:

Spring LG V20

Hey everyone, was wondering if the Sprint variant of the LG V20 has been rooted yet? If so, can you direct me to the link that tells me what to do? I would google it myself, or search these forums myself, but this military network I'm on makes it tough. As it is, this page is all wonkey looking when viewing it from the military network.
EDIT: just noticed the title of the post says Spring...that's a mis-spell, it's supposed to be Sprint. LOL
Definitely not easy at the moment!

Yes, the device is root-able
Follow Dirty Santa ,
At the point where it says to download the stock sprint rom, come over to my thread {Rom} LS997 as thats for the sprint V20,
Download the version of the rom you think fits best, Im using version 5.5 " L " and its liquid smooth, good battery life, no random Fc.
still working on some decent mods to add but its the basics with all the bloat gone, and a ton of tweaks and built in mods to make it run as good as it should.
Just read everthing in both op's 1st and get a good idea before starting. You will need a pc with fastboot and adb setup to do the dirty santa half, one you get into twrp you wont need pc anymore.
If youve downloaded the latest update, you mise well install it and get that out of the way as it will cause twrp loops if its downloaded and not installed yet. that or delete it using twrp and my HELP me post further down in the thread
Good luck!

And if you get stuck in a bootloop of twrp recovery - you just need to do the battery pull, hold vol down, power button, trick.

Android P Developer preview

https://developer.android.com/preview/download.html#images
So far it's great, I know a lot of people won't like the left hand clock and the other visual changes but I personally love them. Battery standby seems amazing so far but it's too early to tell.
You can use this thread to talk about Android p, installation questions or report what apps don't work/misbehave.
I've noticed a few apps pop up a toast message mentioning a possible mismatch on API but so far I haven't had an FC.
Cheers. ?

Agreed with the op. So far it's pretty great and the UI changes are pretty cool. Reminds me of a substratum themed deal now.
Interesting. Choose pixel theme , change it to large display cutout and it makes your pixel look like iphone x. WTF Google?

Yeah probably so Devs can prepare Android apps for notches. I actually like the larger status bar but obviously without the notch. I wonder if someone can do this.

Ability to change DNS settings within connectivity settings
I'd love to try this but I can't. I'm trying via sideload and getting footer is wrong, signature verification failed, error 21. Does it have to be a manual flash instead of sideload? If so, that may be an issue since Verizon had to replace my Google purchased Pixel (no more warranty from Google but I have a VZW extended warranty). I think I now have the Verizon version where there were questions about unlocking the bootloader. I've only had it for a week so I haven't looked into the possibilities of unlocking.

I wish that were the case. I downloaded it and moved it into a different folder. Same issue. I also tried a different PC, wishful thinking, but it still didn't work. Is your bootloader unlocked? I thought sideload didn't require it but my next step was to look into unlocking it but I won't if it's not needed.

Well you have to watch videos on YouTube to prevent brick your phone!
For twrp installing:use the latest version of twrp and don't forget that untick auto restart at odin
When it passed on odin unplug your phone from pc anf get out your battery and after 5sec put it in.and try to go to twrp by volume up+home+power
Good luck

The problem occurred after unlocking. And the toast notification showed, "Unable to open camera, camera is being used by another application". (Sorry I couldn't grab an screenshot. I thought it was hardware side problem but I checked it. Even if was the rare camera issue then the front camera should work. The flashlight isn't working too,)
I forgot to backup the stock ROM and lost it on ROM installation but after installing ROMs, same issue. I tried 3 ROMs, A8 Port, LineageOS 16 and currently on EvoX.
Tried different camera apps , tried WhatsApp camera also, no luck..
Even CPU-Z isn't recognising the Camera.
The device model is J53gxx.
I flashed TWRP exactly as you said.

My advice would be flash stock ROM through Odin and start all over again.
Boot stock rom and make sure camera and flashlight works, then enable oem unlocking and USB debugging and install twrp and a new rom.
If that doesn't solve the issue then it may be hardware related.
Also you could get a log of trying to open camera app and post it here.
