Moto E4 Qualcomm Sprint (Perry) No Service Problem - Moto E4 Questions & Answers

Hello all,
I recently unlocked my Moto E4 Qualcomm Sprint Version (Perry) and flashed Lineage OS 14.1. The OS is working but I am getting no service, and when I first set up the phone it say "Insert Sim Card" even though there is no sim tray. I have tried other ROMs but it the same problem for them also. Some things I have noticed is that there is no radio and Airplane mode keeps switching to in even when I turn it off. Also when I attempt to call people it says turn of Airplane mode even though it is off. I have searched some other forums on this topic since i am not the only one with this problem but none of the solutions worked for me. I have also tried creating new APNs and tried some of the LTE fixes but those also didn't work for me. Is there anyway to fix this "No Service" problem?
Thanks!

- sim card located under battery
- no known/proven fix at present
- return to stock to restore functionality

Try this build
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=284911
Only flash the rom and gapps at first.
Edit: it worked for this user, should work for you also

Holy crap this actually worked! Thank you so much! I have a question though. I'm guessing this is the only ROM that Sprint works with right now?

I didn't post it just to screw with everyone. I'll have trees posted for the devs here to update their roms ASAP I just have other priorities atm. Bear with me please. It's just a matter of missing firmware symlinks so if anyone can figure that out before I post the changes to my trees, feel free.

Another happy customer: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...perry-lte-fix-challenge-t3858512/post78076210

I tried flashing Jason M.'s rom on my XT1766 (boost) but I couldn't get my GSM SIM cards to work.
I tried with FreedomPop, Google Fi, and Simyo (a European carrier) with different behaviors.
The FreedomPop and Google Fi SIM cards are not detected and the Mobile network settings are greyed out.
The Simyo (European carrier) SIM card is detected, after unlocking it with its PIN, I got the following message "SIM card is locked. Emergency call only". In the other hand the Mobile network settings are working, but can't add new APNs, message "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user".
Thank you

Any chance you know how to how to run get.prop in a terminal and post me the output? I'd like to see your apns from stock also.

Hi Jason,
Thank your quick response, this is the output. Regarding the default APNs, there are no APNs, it is empty. (tinypic.com/r/jhtx0l/9)
Thank you

@golouse first off, I asked for that while running stock. That is from LineageOS. Second, sorry I didn't specify, next time please copy and paste the output into a text file and post it that way or post it on Hastebin.com and post a link. Please edit that post and remove the getprop because all that makes things load slower for some users. i also should have mentioned you might want to remove your phone number and anything else like your imei.
Edit: stock apns are in system/etc/apns_conf.xml
Edit2: just copy the whole apns_conf.xml and upload it

Cool. Thanks. I'll see what I can do asap, but If you have an XT1766 I was under the impression that they were only CDMA capable. You mentioned a European carrier also and I also thought that Europe only had GSM carriers. Where did you purchase your phone? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Officially the XT1766 is a CDMA phone but it is GSM capable. Squids2 LineageOS 14.1 builds made the phone connecting to GSM networks, calls, and data.
I purchased several XT1766 in the U.S for my family, then installed Squids2's LineageOS 14.1. All of them are currently working in Europe (yes, Europe is GSM only) without problems.
It is just this last phone, I made the mistake of updating stock (NCQS26.69-64-10), rather than wipe it and install LineageOS 14.1 as soon I got it as I did with the other ones.

Ok, makes sense. I'll try adding your carrier info to the XT1766 in init. I'll post another build later tonight or tomorrow for you to try. I'm pretty sure that's what's needed.

@golouse Try this build

I figured if squid2's builds worked for your other devices I might as well just make a build with the origional init.moto.cpp and without replacing the stock apns. Like the missing firmware. It should work.
This is not for everyone! It should work for any other GSM users though I guess.
For everyone waiting for sources that work after the recent stock updates with a few other changes I made here you go

Thank you @squid2 and @SeanStar and whoever else chipped in for their original work on the trees!

Thank you for your efforts Jason. I've just installed it but the problem persist, same behavior.

Might be because of all the system.props that were added. Didn't think about that. I'll make one more build with those reverted to the way squid2 had them. If that doesn't work, there's one more thing I can try but I don't know when I'll have a chance to do that.
Edit: actually, now that I think about it there was a lot more than those system.props added. I'd be better off just using squid2's trees and adding the couple things to make it work after the latest update. That's gotta work. You might need to restore stock before trying it and maybe erase modem data. I'll do that as soon as I get a chance.

Receiving "SIM card from unknown source" on unlocked S5??

hi all,
short story: Friend on T-Mobile needed a new phone. I bought them a Unlocked Americas S5 (SM-G900H) on amazon. They received it today. Swap sim cards from their damaged s4. Have them set it to global in network settings, have them change the ADN, and a couple other settings to get it to work on T-Mobile. Find out what was sent was a unlocked Verizon S5 model (SM-G900V) according to their system info screen. They also see Verizon apps installed and whatnot, and bootloader. Either way, they are able to receive data, text, calls. And they are getting 4GLTE just fine (shows and detcts it as tmobile, and they can download and browse the net, no issues), not HPSA+. Work like a charm as far as data and voice go.
However, only one issue.... they keep getting a "SIM Card is from a unknown source" warning on the taskbar that's just annoying. I had them root their phone, install supers, and install a root file browser after finding some information to freeze or remove "vzwphoneservice.apk" which seems to fix this same issues for others on older android phones. Problem is, its not there... not in system\app and not in system\priv-app where it should be. They use 4.4.2 kitkat. So I check my own note 3, which is also Verizon and has 4.4.2 kitkat. Im rooted, check same folders, that file is not in either of those directories.
To me, its apparent Verizon has changed the filename. Just trying to find out what it is so I can freeze or remove it to get rid of that Verizon "SIM Card from unknown source" warning.
Any suggestions or ideas? would be greatly appreciated

Confirm that both vzwphoneservice.apk and vzwphoneservice.odex are renamed or removed. You may also need to rename VzwController.apk and VzwController.odex and clear your phone cache (from recovery mode).
These are Verizon setup files and it is looking for an encrypted SIM that CDMA carriers like to use. The above should vanquish the message unless you have really rotten luck vis a viz Verizon having added yet another Kitkat setup package.

Welcome to XDA.
It would be good if you started a new thread though, rather than hijack someone else's thread on a similar topic.
Tell us what you tried looking for (filenames, where.. using what app, etc. and what phone model you have.. as many details as you can) and lots of us will try to help you out.

SM-G900R4 - US Cellular Galaxy S5 Unlock

Hello everyone,
Sorry if this was posted already - I am typing this up in between other projects and I wanted to put something out here so I wouldn't forget. This last weekend, I purchased a used Galaxy S5 CDMA phone branded by US Cellular. I searched and searched for a way to unlock it but I was not able to find anything that worked for me. My phone is currently running Android 4.4.2 and none of the *# dial codes would do anything for me. Finally I was near a local US Cellular today so I brought my phone in and they unlocked the SIM for me so I can use it with other carriers. I haven't had a chance to go through the phone yet after the unlock, but I plan on looking at it tonight when I get home to find out if I can figure out how it was unlocked so I can share that info with anyone on the site who would like to unlock their SM-G900R4. I'm hoping that during their unlocking process, the hidden menus were left visible so I can look at the phone's file structure. I'll report back as soon as I know more.

Just a quick follow up... I didn't have a chance to go through my phone extensively last night, but I did see something that may or may not be of interest. When I got my phone back after being unlocked, there was an icon for mceFramework. When I clicked on it, it ran in the upper corner of the phone and when I swiped down it said it would be uninstalled. From what I have read about it, it has really nothing to do with the unlocking of the phone though.
Depending on what time I get home tonight will determine if I get to really dig into the phone tonight or not. I'm hoping there is something I will be able to find that will be useful. The US Cellular phone is a bit different though, as I mentioned before regarding the *# codes... No matter what *# codes I try, they do not work... even something as simple as *#060# does nothing on my phone - even after being unlocked. If I find something, I'll report back.

Hello, I came across this thread and just thought I'd share how I was able to unlock my Galaxy s5 Mini (US Cellular). I tried just about everything, but what finally worked was simply flashing the stock rom which can be found at the sammobile site. Use 'Odin', instructions included on the website.

Hello -- stock rom by model number. I think in most cases this is just stock Android for the carrier of specified model, minus bloatware and network lock. Well, I correct myself -- there may be some bloatware, but certainly less than what was there after performing the factory reset. The link to 'sm-g900r4' rom is at sammobile(dotcom), firmwares, search for model number -- and download latest version.
In my case, phone model is 'sm-g800r4' (US Cellular). Everywhere I looked online suggested that I had to contact US Cellular and request instructions for unlocking, but they will only do this if you have the original sim card. So, I finally flashed the stock rom using Odin, following very basic instructions (included on the rom site). After flashing, I still had the US Cellular splash screen, but my verizon sim suddenly worked with the device. Next step for me -- root and replace that ugly US Cellular splash screen with the gorgeous lollipop boot animation. Very nice.
If you need assistance with specific instructions let me know, and I can provide a quick summary.
Simple instructions, great site to join for US Cell users.

Did you ever figure out a way to unlock your phone?

[Q] No 4G/LTE in my LG G2 D802.

Hey guys,
As you can read in the tittle, my problem is that I don't have 4G/LTE I get 3G+/3G or HSPA+/HSPA.
Right I'm running Lollipop with the custom ROM, BlissPop with B14ckB1rd Kernel. I tried other ROMs (CM, RR, Paranoid) but I don't get 4G in neither of them.
I lost my 4G a quite ago, don't remember exactly how but I can imagine it was when I tried those early Lollipop builds, after that I went back to KitKat and the 4G was gone, even I tried going to full stock but neither that work.
I'm sure is a phone problem because I been with 2 different carriers and couldn't get 4G. The SIM card is brand new and today I spent around 2 hours talking with the Tech Support of my carrier checking everything is all right.
I also tried to change the Baseband/Modem/Radio (Right now I have Cloudyfa KK for the D802).
This might be also helpful for guess what could be the problem, when I dial *#*#4636#*#* go this phone information, down to prefer network type and select LTE only I lose service, by the way, in that configuration I have selected LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) and USA radio band.
I'm open for all kind of suggestions, If you need more information don't doubt in asking me.: fingers-crossed:

Hey guys,
As you can read in the tittle, my problem is that I don't have 4G/LTE I get 3G+/3G or HSPA+/HSPA.

I am having exactly the same issue. I have been going around in circles since days. Recking APN settings constantly etc. Going mad. Would be great to find a solution together!

Well is good to know I'm not the only one.
Could you share more information?, like when and how it happened, so we can figure out what is wrong.
Today I'm going to try to get some logs, and check the system folder.
It happened to me with stock lollipop v30d vodafone ITA with another carrier sim (TIM). Solved after flashing v30a open ITA kdz.

I'm gonna try it, will send feedback as soon as possible.
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda Forum
No luck, I installed the V30a Italian version as you suggested but as you can in the screenshots no 4G at all, when I try to force LTE (This time with the command 3845#*802#) is lose service like in my last ROM, so I'm almost sure is hardware and not software.
Can some confirm me that, cause when you go back to stock by a kdz or how ever their is not residual imformation, every thing is fully clean right? Or some firmware just stay for ever?
If you guys have more suggestions that could try before I send it to somewhere for get it repair.

Delayed Texts and Unknown Carrier with Custom ROMs (7.1.2 / 8.1) on Verizon S5-G900V

So I have posted before without any replies and am still seeking help...
I know there are others out there in the same situation as me:
On an Unlocked VZW bootloader
On Verizon Wireless 4G LTE in the US
Trying to run a Custom ROM on their phone
But for some reason, I seem to be the only one who has a random delayed texts (both SMS and MMS) issue (by 1-15 minutes) on these forums. Sometimes on Custom ROMs the texts come in normally but other times there is a long delay and it makes having a conversation with people very difficult and irritating. There is NO text delay on rooted (Magisk) QL1, the latest Samsung stock TW S5 6.0.1 ROM, and I have gone back to it since I have no more ideas left to try.
What I have tried:
AEX 5.8 (Oreo 8.1), Havoc OS (8.1), Lineage 15.1 (Latest 8.1), crDroid 3.8.5 (7.1.2), MoKee (7.1.2), AOKP (7.1.2)
Changing APN settings to include the MMSC http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms and leave blank which is the default on Custom/Stock ROMs
Changing APN settings to match the stock VZW settings exactly
Flashed new VZW APN files from an ltefix.zip file I found on XDA
Changing CDMA to be Home and not just Automatic
Changing from Global to CDMA/LTE+EVDO
Went to the Verizon store and got a new SIM card
Booted up without SIM and powered off; then inserted SIM and booted up again
Tried different Modem/Non-HLOS versions like QC2 and QL1
Went into the secret *#*#4636#*#* Phone menu to see what differences exist between stock and Custom ROM settings
Added some lines from the stock VZW Build Prop to Custom ROM Build Prop
Removing HD Voice/VoLTE from my Verizon account
Avoided installing any apps after flashing a Custom ROM to see if the problem remained
Nothing worked! Still get Delayed Texts trying everything I could think of, except when on the stock VZW ROM. Custom ROMs may boot up showing my carrier as Verizon Wireless, but then after some random amount of time will show the Carrier as either "Unknown" (7.1.2) or "Roaming Indicator Off" (8.1). It is usually at that time when the Delayed Texts issue arises once the phone loses its lock on Verizon.
This makes me think it is a Verizon Band issue where for some reason not enough Bands are available for my phone to use on these Non-Verizon Custom ROMs. Or it could have something to do with VoLTE being active on my account at one point (I turned it off on My Verizon to try to combat this problem). Or maybe something to do with how we all unlocked the bootloader in the same way.
But what I don't understand is why I am the only person with this issue since I am pretty sure there are a lot of people on Verizon with CID 15 on Custom ROMs who don't seem to be mentioning this problem!
Any thoughts on how to fix it? Could it be a matter of augmenting the Bands my phone has access to on the Custom ROMs?
Thank you very much!

When you are on stock you are seeing the verizon lte correct? It not showing unkown?
I have a CID 15 I can try and see if that one is having an issues. it has an older lineage rom on it but it should still work for a test.

Yes, stock shows Verizon as the Network in Settings/About Phone/Status and Verizon Wireless as Carrier and LTE as Type in the secret phone settings page I get to through the app Advanced Signal Status.
Appreciate your assistance in testing Lineage on your CID 15. Since no one else seems to be complaining I have a feeling it will show as Verizon as you'd expect. Feels very lonely on my island lol, but at least rooted stock with Xposed is livable for now.

Thanks for trying! Assume you waited a while with the S5 in Lineage before responding because mine will start as Verizon but then after 1-30 minutes will switch over to Unknown.
Yeah I recently came across the same post in my research on this. Seems like most of the people who used that guide weren't able to do anything with their modem like call or had missing SIM card messages. I have always had the ability to call except when I debloated the stock ROM too much lol! I am hesitant to start deleting modem files and find myself in worse trouble than I am in now when stock works perfectly (aside from the lagginess).
Besides this issue with Lineage Oreo, I also found AOSP Extended Oreo to be a huge battery hog because my phone ran HOT (but maybe it's related to my main modem? issue). On stock, I almost never find the thing getting warm, it's just not as smooth as Oreo is. I am going to let S5 Oreo mature further and improve on the battery performance before going back to it I think and just stay on working stock for now. If I had concrete evidence that my daily driver could be fixed without any risk, I might consider following instructions.
Appreciate your assistance regardless since no one else has really made any suggestions!
Thank you!

I tried this one once when my old sprint S5 didn't have 4G. I ended up with no network at all, I had to do a forget network and reboot to get everything back. I never got that phone fixed I know there is another forum about that issue as well:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/help/galaxy-s5-galaxy-note-3-sprint-help-t3698708
Most people were able to get it fixed by replacing the SIM, but since you did that I didn't mention this post.
UPDATE:
Forgot to ask, have you tried a different messenger? I know it wont fix you unknown errors but I thought I'd ask. Also, when you did the modem update, was it this update: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development/modem-modems-t3154630

Thanks for the quick reply!
You tried the deleting the modems fix or the link in your prior post for your Spring S5? And what is a "forget network" fix -- just resetting all network settings in Android?
Yeah I was really hoping the replacement SIM would fix it but sadly it was a dead end.
I have tried several messengers like the stock Lineage one, Google Messenger, and landed on Textra because it has the most configuration options.
Yeah I tried Odining modems from both the link you referenced and extracting them myself from the firmware. Not sure if this is essentially the same thing as overwriting the modems in the corrupted TWRP modem guide. I am tempted to try this over the weekend after making an EFS backup. Hard for me to believe that deleting modemst1 partitions and not restoring them afterwards as is what seems to be the fix... Does the system automatically rebuild them or something?

So I decided to bite the bullet and run the dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemst1 and 2 in TWRP terminal and got the "No space left on device" in the output (tried over ADB with the same result). Supposedly this isn't necessarily a bad thing as evidenced https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68532486&postcount=115. Had no problems on stock after doing this (but had no problems on stock prior either).
Then I switched back to AOSP Extended 5.8 (Oreo) and sadly I got the Roaming Indicator Off right away. I tried zeroing out the modemst's again with the same No Space result and back in Oreo got the same delayed texts and Roaming Indicator Off after a few minutes. Dead end, but at least I tried I guess. I am back on stock and my only other thought is to unlock some LTE bands but that may be too technical for me to bother with. Stock works with the current bands so I wonder why I should have to do that on Lineaage.

Can you do me one more favor and tell me if your CID is 1501004d414732474300bd6d97165100 (think we all have the same)? My Verizon S5 (this is the working phone) is a CID 15 (I don't have the phone with me right now to get the CID ID), I can look around for the setup I used. It was some months ago when I ran the bootloader unlock and root. BUT! the phone I had an issue with the LTE was a sprint S5 that was unlocked for years before they started locking the bootloaders. This bug affects all carriers, but mostly sprint and verizon.

Thanks yeah that's the more recent method and I am just trying to figure out if that results in the same CID I have. If not, there may be some issue because I am using the same CID as others. But perhaps we all are using the same CID and then I can cross that theory off my long list haha. When you get a chance, can you please check the CID of the Verizon S5 you have?
Thanks!

The CID doesn't change, its just the Chip ID of the phone. You either have the CID 11, which you wouldn't be able to unlock the boot loader let alone put lineage on it. Then there's the CID 15 which does let you unlock the boot loader. I never used the CID checker I ended up finding out if I had a 15 by going to this forum: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/help/to-id-cid-15-loading-app-t3756413
Now, with that being said, could there be some sort of correlation between a CID 15 with a specific version number and the bug? Its possible, I could have a different CID 15 version than you and that one may not be affected. Who knows

Pretty sure this whole unlocking the bootloader on CID 15 requires that you change your CID to match the Developer CID. I know that my current CID is referenced in the thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...locking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909/page39 back when this was all just coming out (and when I first unlocked it using the old method 4 - https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909). I used to have a different CID that's saved somewhere else.
Any chance you can look your CID to see if it matches 1501004d414732474300bd6d97165100?
Thanks!

S8 plus ussd problems, call forwarding

Hi first post here but not a complete newbie. But this time I'm stuck big time and would appreciate some help.
I've got a s8 plus that recently started playing up. All of a sudden it started not being able to make or receive calls. But I noticed it only happened when the "conditional call forwarding active" message didn't appear when dialing. I figured it had something to do with call forwarding so try to change the settings on supplementary services settings but when I tried to enter the settings an error message appeared "failed to read data" I tried sending the code manually to cancel voice mail *#022# to see if it would work but I got "connection problem or invalid mmi code" so assumed it could be that the phone is trying to check with the network the forwarding settings as the call starts but for some reason it cannot communicate with it as the mmi codes don't seem to working?? (I'm not that knowledgeable in that area) I tried all the fixes online for the "connection problem or invalid mmi" but none work so I flashed the firmware through Odin even tried a few different ones, I've been playing around with Odin for a while so I'm comfortable with it, I even flashed a pit once for a note 4 that was bricked (just saying so you can see I'm comfortable with using it, not an expert just comfortable) but nothing has fixed my problem my phone is a g955fd running pie and one UI with the latest security update. I've read the duos have some issues with this. I've tried other sim cards on my phone from different carriers and the problem is the same and I'm using my sim on a borrowed phone and no problems. I'm assuming the problem goes deeper than the firmware, could this problem be boot loader related? Would a nand erase and reinstalling the boot loader fix it? Everything else works 100%
Someone please help me, the phone I'm borrowing is an apple and every day I have it I feel weaker and dumber, it's like kryptonite.
Sorry for the long post but I've been browsing xda forums for years and I know that you guys always say to share as much info as possible. By the way I've searched and couldn't find a thread about this but it there is one I promptly apologize and just ask for the link to it if not thanks in advanced.

Way for snapdragon
Flash https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/development/rom-t3901074 with odin and test with hard factory reset recoery.
After, flash odin last firmware stock sammobile
Thanks
Thanks for your reply deadedge7
As I said my s8 + is a duos g955fd variant and has an Exynos processor, I'm not sure that rooting it would make much of a difference, as to my understanding rooting doesn't really change the boot loader it just allows you to install a custom recovery and roms. Which is not much different to reflashing a stock rom for all intents and purposes , but I might give it a try anyway. I guess that maybe a rom like the one in the thread you shared might give me some more hidden codes access as a root but I'm not sure. I will try to find a root like it for my variant unless you know of one and can point me to it.
Thanks
Hard reset or flash stock software or hardware problem
For iemi best way is root efs with flash twrp best way for /EFS

No solution so far. I've rooted the phone and install a couple of custom ROMs but still nothing. I'll try and roll back the firmware and see what happens. I'm no expert but I still think it is fixable. If I find a solution I'll post it on this thread. If you find one please share. My solution at the moment is getting a galaxy A50, very comparable performance with the S8 and really cheap.

I'll keep that in mind. Couple of things to note: I don't get the message conditional call forwarding active. I don't think I ever have.
I tried a different carrier SIM card(T-mobile) and it worked (I'm on At&t). I was able to make and receive calls. Even tried an out of country SIM card and received calls. But my At&t SIM works on other phones perfectly. Go figure lol.
The only other reason I can think of is maybe cos it fell a couple of times from the couch. About 1.5ft. New case kept making it slide off.
