Best way to backup internal storage - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Hello,
as the 6T has no microsd to just pull out and backup, I'd like to know ways to backup / synchronize my entire internal storage to a local network drive (Synology Diskstation NAS).
Is there an app that can reliable do this for me as soon as the following rules are met? A) Be connected to my home WiFi b) phone is being charged c) nas is running
Also I no battery drain when it's not in use.
I tried the synology cloud app for this purpose on another phone. While running all it did was to eat the battery like candy.
Thank you for your help

This won't backup my data on network drives or? Isn't there something like titanium backup but for my internal storage?

I'm trying to set up my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone plus my Nexus 7 tablet so that I can copy the photos I've taken during the day with the S2 onto the N7 and process them on the tablet prior to uploading them to various online services.
I tried copying 58 files via Bluetooth today using ES File Manager. It took about an hour and a half and used a fair portion of my batteries. It didn't leave a lot of time for actually doing any processing.
In a place where public WiFi was accessible, albeit slow, I tried using AirDroid but the AP wouldn't let me log on twice using the same user name on two separate devices and, if it had, I doubt that it would allow peer-to-peer software for obvious security reasons.
I could upload the 58 files to Dropbox or Google Drive but that would involve twice the data transfer and the public WiFi seems to be even slower than Bluetooth. That many files would also hit my phone's data allowance pretty hard.
The Galaxy S2 can take a USB-OTG cable so I could transfer the
photos onto, say, an SD card. But to copy them onto the tablet I'd have to root it to get USB-OTG working. And that would mean wiping my apps and data.
I'll root the N7 eventually but, in the mean time, does anyone have an alternative solution that's relatively inexpensive? By which I mean not, for example, having to shell out for, and carry around, a wireless drive.

Hey Garry! ...I'm one of your Flickr contacts (Michael). I picked up a Nexus 7 this Friday, and intend to use it with my HTC One X phone. I will be experimenting with this too, and will let you know if I find anything. I tried Photo Transfer App, but it locked up after 15 photos, and that was on a really good wifi network. So far, Dropbox is my best option.
Hi, Michael
The problem with Dropbox is that you have to upload the photos then download them again, which would eat heavily into my data plan, not to mention the time it would take.
Someone mentioned an app called Bump which I'm going to try out but I expect it will be as slow as using Bluetooth.
Whatever I find, I'll post back here.

The other apps I'll be looking at when I get time are Nexus Photo viewer and Nexus Media Importer, both of which are being developed by an XDA from member. Hmmm... when I get time...

My current set up is with +google instant upload. Photos taken are uploaded on the fly to my picasa account. I have an all you can eat data plan so I'm not that worried about usage however I generally have this set to wifi only. I find any time I want to mess around with my pics they will be there on the N7.
I never really have a need to edit something immediately.
I do have a problem trying to find files I've edited on my phone as they don't sync to the tablet.

[Q] How to keep android and app data off my datacard

I keep my phone data to a minimum and regularly backup and wipe photos so i have heaps of space on my phone's data.
I use my Datacard for music and plan to fill it up with music. Its all about the music.
My phone was happily storing everything on my phone until until i put in my music card where android decides to use that as storage. I have googled a lot and cannot find any answers. Help will be very much appreciated

Contact Storage Data - 13GB

128GB internal storage vs 32GB with SD Card??

Hi I am trying to understand if there is any practical real life difference between getting the 128GB (black pearl) variant or a standard 32GB and then adding at large SD card.
- I know adoptable storage isn't a native option but seems it can easily be enabled using adb
- essentially it'd be Spotify offline files and media that would be on the SD card only at this stage
Am I missing something obvious? Why would one opt for a larger internal storage then??
Internal storage on Galaxy S7 is WAY faster than SD cards. But there's a potential risk of it being wiped away, either by your mistake, or when you want to decrypt your storage. But no need to worry about it if you love your Samsung Pay and don't want to trip knox warranty.
Ye, internal storages are faster, it also has dual sim with sd card slot. It's not worth paying more for couple of gigs IMHO.

Because adoptable storage isn't utilized very good. For instance, OBB and app data will still be stored on the internal storage even though you set up adoptable storage and there shouldn't be such a thing. This results in apps reporting insufficient storage space, even if you have a 128gb adoptable storage setup. It's just a bad solution IMHO.
The reason why no one seems to have performance issues despite regular SD cards being slower than internal storage is because of the aforementioned reason. When you have adoptable storage set up, apps and the Android system will still prefer the "internal partition" of it.
This has been my experience with adoptable storage.

What method are you using to transfer apps & data from your current phone to your S8?

What method are you using to transfer apps & data from your current phone to your S8?
In the past I've been able to root my phone straight away and use Titanium Backup to transfer everything I needed to my new phone.
But seeing as the S8 is so new and hasn't been rooted yet I was wondering what you guys were planning to do about your apps and data?
Has anyone use Google's Tap to Go or Samsung's own transfer wizard that runs when you first setup the phone? Or perhaps there is a better method?
Or do I really need to bother at all, just sign into my Google account, download my apps and everything should just work and be there? Is it as easy as that?
It has been such a long time since I've had to do this. My current phone is a Note 4 which I've had for 2yrs and before that was a HTC One M8 which was rooted and I had that for 2yrs and before that was the Google Galaxy which was also rooted.
What are your thoughts?
Use the OTG method (phone to phone). That should be the fastest.
This time around I set up my new phone manually. There were a couple small things that I bluetooth transferred just for quick reference and I do have some stuff backed up on g cloud so I may put those on as well

What is the OTG method? Are you talking about using a OTG cable to link the phones somehow?
I used the built in Samsung Smart Switch. Worked great to transfer my data from my iPhone

easiest is smartswitch for sure, did that for s5-s7 but i asume it works either way as long as u have a samsung
This time around I went ahead and just used Samsung's Smartswitch method. Plugged in my S7's cable to the S7, with the USB to USB-C adapter (included in the S8 package) to the S8, and it auto-started the Smartswitch process on my old S7. It transferred all my apps, with their data, along with the homescreen settings, etc. I did need to reset a few apps, so make sure you have viable backups of important stuff. As an example, Carango didn't transfer over my gas mileage & car records, so I had to pull those back from a cloud backup, and while all the files for BeyondPod transferred over fine, I needed to do a restore from backup in the app to get its settings and update times loaded properly.
All that said, it's probably about the smoothest process I've had for transferring everything over. Seems to work at least as well if not better than Google's built-in thing, and it's a bit quicker.
Gonna be using Samsung's Smart Switch. Easiest way, I think. Did it when I went from my S3 > S6 and will do so again, S6 > S8.
Thanks for the replies. Looks like Smartswitch is the way to go. I will give that a try tonight. Thanks everyone.

Did you have any issues with it? I couldn't get it to work with my iPhone 7. It kept losing connection at 99%

Yep it worked fine. Never lost connection once

I tried smart switch from s7 edge and it only transfers the apps, without any settings. I might as well have download these apps from the play store. If that's the way this works, I don't see any reason why to use smart switch.
smart switch includes internal storage data, and discontinued and sideloaded apps.
for the data/settings you can use helium, you need to install and activate(using a PC) it on both phones once and then you can see all transferable apps from the other phone and copy their data over as needed.

Than you. I did that thing with smart switch just to check it out. I always use titanium backup for the purpose, but root is needed first...
Never used helium before. I'll check it.

Smartswitch and OTG are the same.
Smart switch didn't work for me. I think it was because my note 4 is rooted so I ended setting things manually.
What if you no longer have the previous phone, but you do have the backup of a previous device on Google Drive? I had a Pixel running 7.1.1 previously, but returned it. Now i want to restore the Galaxy S8 from that backup, but it does not seem to recognize the backup. When i first start up the S8, it just logs me into my Google account, but never asks for the restore option.

If you have lot of pics, move them first manually and delete them from IPhone and try smartswitch again. This resolved my issue.
This may sound odd, but I haven't even set my phone up yet. I put my screen protector on and it came out flawless and works well with my TPU case (no lifting). So I'm going to wait until I get my promo bundle (Shipped 2 day) put my SIM and MicroSD in it and then use smartswitch. I'm not going to keep tempting fate by taking the phone out of the case and messing up the edges of my screen protector. OCD much? You bet!
