Hello old friends,
I would love some help. My beloved Nexus 6p has a broken screen. I think it's still accepting touch input, but I cannot see anything.
Everything else works. I'm trying to connect via ADB so I can get some control, but it says the device is unauthorized. I've been googling trying to solve the issue for a few hours, but even following guides and a otg-usb keyboard I cannot enable usb-debugging as the menus seem to be different.
The phone is running a stock android 8.0 (or 8.1 maybe) but is rooted.
Could someone either a) tell me exactly what to press on the usb keyboard once I've unlocked the phone via fingerprint or
b) suggest a better idea
Thanks very much!

Hi i have a 16gb wi-fi model and recently updated the build to Android 4.2.
On purchasing this originally i rooted and unlocked it so i could use stickmount for USB storage etc. but after updating it this app was only working occasionally so i downloaded root checker pro and it said my device wasn`t properly rooted so i attempted to re-root but since then i have had this problem.
I installed wugfresh version 1.6.0 and flash stocked/unrooted in softbrick/bootloop to see if this helped which it done but on start up i had the same problem with pausing at the X screen after the google and unlocked padlock screen.
The only thing i can do is get the tablet into recovery mode but have tried factory resetting this way but no joy there either.
My PC also wont recognise the device now and theres a problem with not recognising adb mode?
Lastly once i unplugged the device from the usb otg lead it turned off and wont come back on so i think the battery might now be faulty/broken.
If anyone can offer some advice for a fix this would be greatly appreciated but i`m not your average tech head so a simplified answer would also be appreciated.
Thanks
Hello all,
I've searched and found reference to people having the issue, but couldn't find any resolution and wanted to see if anything new has come up.
I prefer the manual method of rooting, and need to get adb working with this device.
Nexus 10 running 4.3, factory unlocked manually using fastboot (which works fine). I updated all of the relevant stuff in SDKmanager, but still can't get my Nexus 10 to come up in "adb devices" even after killing and restarting adb server. This is on a mac, for the record.
My rooted nexus 4 comes up in adb without issue.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Did you remember to check "USB Debugging" on Developer Settings?
To unlock Developer Setting you must press many times Build Number, then there you can turn on USB Debugging . Hope it works!
Sorry, should have mentioned that I did put it in USB Debugging mode. I've tried it with the "Verify apps over USB" setting in the Debugging section both checked and unchecked, killing and restarting ADB server each time.
As far as I know I'm doing everything correctly...
Any other ideas?
Did you try killing the server and starting it with sudo? When my adb gives me problem on my Fedora/Ubuntu I do it and solves the problem . Also try plugging in other USB Ports if it's the case.
Normally on Windows when you cant get the device to show up it is a driver issue, I would imagine the same is true for OS X as well. I cant really recommend an alternate driver though since I dont know much about installing this stuff and rooting when running Mac :/

AFAIK Mac is like Linux, and in Linux we don't have this problem, although sometimes it's needed to modify the rules, I decided to keep this for later, only if the more simple methods doesn't work, as it's way harder than these ones I already pointed.
I have searched high and low for a forum where the same problems are presented. I have had no luck at all. So, I hope that I'm not driving anyone nuts here, but here goes
I have a 2012 Nexus 7. I am using this tablet to learn all about how to work with android software, ROMS, kernals, etc. It is unlocked and rooted. I have TWRP. It is currently stuck in a bootloop (I tried to install a custom ROM) and I have no idea if USB debug is on or not. When I connect the tablet to my PC, it will charge and the computer acknowledges that SOMETHING is connected but will not find the tablet itself. (ie: I cannot find the tablet icon to click on). I have been to dev manager and I cannot find it there either.
I have no idea what anyone is talking about with this abd sideload. Most of what is said is greek to me. If someone would be willing to explain that to me (in english) I would love to learn.
Obviously, I am in above my head and I really could use some genuine help here.
I just want to flash this thing back to stock. Could someone please explain to me how to accomplish this?

You need to read first. Then flash. If you kill your device then you won't learn too much. Start with this thread --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796.
You will probably need to install the naked Android fastboot drivers (search!) to proceed through the thread, since you can't put the device into USB debugging.
Anyway, to answer your questions:
adb (Android Debug Bridge) is a tool that allows a computer to control low-level features of an Android device. adb sideload allows you to send an app or ROM from your computer to your device (usually in a custom recovery) and install it, which helps if you've accidentally killed everything on your internal memory. However, you need a custom recovery (CWM/TWRP) to use adb sideloads.
You're better off learning how to use fastboot, which is a bootloader-based tool that helps a lot with disaster recovery.
Okay, I guess I need more help. I don't understand how I am supposed to be able to use fastboot to bypass the "enable USB Debugging". If I could get this to happen, I believe I can get my device back to stock. Can you explain this to me? NONE of the descriptions online are of any use at all.
Just reboot your device using power boutton and volume+ and volume- buttons to access to bootloader mode I suggest you to use nexus root toolkit it's very simple and usefull

Nexus CANNOT ENABLE USB DEBUGGING
Can I ask for your help guys? My Nexus 7 v1 is stuck on boot loop (either stuck on google screen or sometimes would proceed up to the nexus animation screen) and I've been trying to fix it with the Nexus Root Toolkit (NRT). I just have problem proceeding with the steps since the toolkit advices me to enable my device's USB DEBUGGING (open device , go to settings, then developer options etc) which I CANNOT POSSIBLY DO COS AGAIN, NEXUS IS JUST STUCKED ON BOOT LOOP.
Can you suggest OTHER ways I can enable USB Debugging in Nexus 7? I would greatly appreciate your help.
You don't need to get into USB debugging mode, as your goal is to reflash a stable ROM onto your device. You can do that with Fastboot commands when your N7 is in the (unlocked) bootloader. You can follow the instructions in the second thread in this forum, or tell NRT you're soft bricked, to install a factory ROM.
Hi, I'm really hoping someone can please help.
I accidentally dropped my 2012 Nexus 7 and now the touchscreen won't work. I am trying to backup the data. The tablet turns on and my PC recognizes it when I plug it in via USB. However because I have a passcode on the lockscreen Windows won't show the files on the tablet until I unlock the screen. This is no doubt a security feature. Is there any way possible to either bypass the lockscreen or access my data another way?
I tried using SkipSoft Android Toolkit but for every option I select it says "Waiting for USB debugging to be enabled".
2012 Nexus 7
Android 4.4.x (Can't remember if it was running 4.4.1 or 4.4.2).
Everything is stock, no root.
Bootloader version: 4.23
The problem is that USB debugging is not enabled on the device, so I cannot use adb. Is there any way around this?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
For anyone who might be caught in a similar situation, I was able to enter the pin code via mouse and OTG cable.
Hello!
I looked through the threads and I found a lot of people writing about their destroyed screen and solutions.
Unfortunatelly, I haven't found a similar problem to mine.
So here are the facts:
- Nexus 4 with stock Android 5 Lollipop
- Rooted
- Pattern locked screen
- Touchscreen doesn't work anymore, because screen is cracked
- USB Debugging enabled, but computer is not trusted
- TWRP installed
So I can't just enable adb sideload or something in recovery because it requires my touchscreen and I cant unlock the screen in order to access my files.
I read following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395 about how to control a device with your PC. However, the tool can't find my Nexus, I think it's because my PC is not a trusted debugging device.
Also I'm afraid the stock kernel doesn't support USB OTG, so this isn't an option either and I can't just sideload another kernel or recovery because TWRP requires touch function.
I hope you can help me asap!
