Yesterday, i was flashed with this custom rom.. And then, in my notification bar, there was a notif "set up sdcard". i'm corious what is it, so i click it, and then i click format sdcard to internal storage. And then, my smartphone is normal and the storage up to be 32gb (i have sdcard 16gb). I don't know what I did that made the problem happen (sdcard not detected, and my internal storage to be 4gb (normal in galaxy j5 is 8gb)).
when the problem occurs (until now), i can chat via whatsapp (but i can;t download the image and i can't watch my friend's status). I also can't open the camera, can't save anything in my phone.
So what can i do to fix this problem, i hope someone can help me
NB: I can't enter recovery mode when i plug my sdcard,
anyone can help me

if i connect my usb cable, the drive appears - however i dont see that icon in ics to turn on the mass storage.
The icon etc should be on the notification bar, but its not there anymore.
I can use the usb storega. I'm running v1.9. Are you sure your cable is working and drivers are installed?
yeah it is... i just upgraded to ics, it also detects the "debugging" and the drive appears on my pc.
Little progress now... after some middling in recovery the option is back... however... it just keeps on trying to turn it on..
what i noticed in recovery was that i couldnt mount sdcard (mounting error).. and a "unable to write ums lunfile" when i tried to format it.
but card is working (eg if i go for the upgrade from zip etc option... i can browse the internal SD)
in File expert it shows the sdcard as 0/0 kb (and when i open it... it just points me to the internal memory)... under storage in settings it still shows that 2gb internal SD.
Which version of CWM recovery are you using? Pretty sure I've read somewhere that to make things work properly for ICS you need 5.5.x.x. Was in the ICS thread in Development iirc.

Take sdcard out of the phone and reinsert it and then try to plug the phone to pc.
i cant take out built in sdcard....
and as for the cwm. it should be the 5.5.0.4
Ics by dzo doesnt mount internal sd. It only mounts external, maybe thats is why you cant mount using usb?

Forgive me if there's a forum about this posted somewhere else on xda... I couldn't find one coz few other people seem to be having this issue.
My problem is that I can't write more than like 7mb to any of my 3 my ext SDs (on the phone or on a computer via usb) without the phone pretty much crashing & needing a reboot.
It never happened back when I used GB... And I've had the same issue on all three ICS ROMs I've tried (CM9, F4K r4 and DarkyROM v11).
Anybody had the same issue or an idea on how to solve this?

Can you be a little more specific? Which ROM are you currently using? What are you trying to do? Are you installing apps, transferring data to SD ... ? Where are trying to store stuff? Which directory? My Galaxy S external SD is named emmc in File Explorer.

Currently using DarkyRom v11 (Black Edition) with Semaphore ICS 1.2.5s Kernel.
I am simply trying to transfer files (Mostly media files: jpeg, png, mp4, mp3) from mnt/sdcard/media to mnt/emmc.
The transfer progress bar just hangs and the phone becomes unresponsive to the point where I need to reboot. Reading data off the card works 100% fine.
The memory card does work if I remove it and connect it to a computer via a card reader / SD slot.
I was wondering if it wasn't a hardware fault on the phone (seeing as not many other people running ICS on their i9000s have the same problem), but then someone I know picked up the exact same issue when he flashed CM9 on his sgs.

If you are having /datadata problems try here for starters: 'http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1541942' (CM7/9). There is a summary of cause and cure, along with further references for you to follow.
Initially I had problems understanding the file structure of my rooted phone. Using FtpCafe I tried to download large map files into sdcard/external_sd/. Big mistake, as I quickly ran out of space. Moving those files to emmc/ sorted my problem. Go to Settings->Storage to quickly check how things stand re internal and external storage.

Galaxy Note: ICS 4.0.3
EDIT:
Sorry for the above, but have only just got your update. Like you, I had trouble transferring files on the phone (about 1GB), but put it down to memory problems and the limitations of the phone. Much safer to connect to the computer in USB connection mode and move the files around from there. In my own case, I had my files backed up to the cloud and the computer; so I simply deleted the unwanted files and downloaded directly to the external sd card from backup.

Yeah, that script is for the low storage notification... an issue I had months back but fixed.... Don't think it's relevant for my current problem.
Running out of space on my internal storage is exactly why I want to be able to move files to my emmc... But that's what's not working, The phone won't let me copy to emmc.
Thanks for trying to help

you need to use https://play.google.com/store/search?q=move+to+Sd+card&c=apps
or menu > settings> applications> storage use > application you want to move to SD card
you cannot cut and paste from internal phone
But to move from one SD card to another, just connect usb, once usb icon appears on task bar
open your notifications drawer > touch usb connected > touch connect storage to PC
you can now open both SD card in your PC and transfer anything you want to any SD card

I know how to transfer files via usb but like I said earlier, the phone crashes when I do that too.
I want to warn you all that, the latest CM10, build 15th August, includes a wiping bug which can wipe your SD cards pictures and videos when it crashes after taking 2 photos (1 photo -> look in gallery -> return to camera and take it -> crash). It will wipe anything you've got, and I also seem to have an issue with getting su rights in terminal emulator, will try adb later.
What happened (external SD):
I took a picture earlier today, the Gallery app crashed. I come now to the laptop to backup my photos, and I connect my phone in CM10 (it's as 2nd ROM, don't you dare to come at me and say "hurr durr kernal not supported and dual boot too" because it's NOT kernel related.
So, I connect my phone, and I see all my folders tripled. DCIM 3x, Music 3x, .antutu 3x, and so on. I'm like "OK, I'm going to wipe the doubles, and all is going to be fine). I erase .antutu folder 1 is OK, folder 2 tells me I lost connection with the phone and folder 3 seems to be the original. I proceed to .estrongs, but I stop there.
I go with Solid Explorer, and I check out what's happening. There are NO tripled folders. I decided to reboot and boot into my primary ROM, CM9. Boot is fine, but I reach gallery, and I see my pictures vanish one by one, and I see that they're being deleted automatically. I have no idea how that can be possible, it was definitely some sort of wipe command from within. As I said, I can't get a logcat right now, and last_kmsg isn't going to help because it's not kernel related.
I now check again on the SD card, 32GB Samsung class 10 SD card, and I see that everything's wiped inside the DCIM folder. Camera, 100ANDRO, and my own personal folder, SC. Everything's gone. Wiped, and deleted, out of nowhere. I have no idea how to retrieve, because it has been wiped and there is no return now.
This is just a warning to you guys using CM10 last build, so hopefully you won't lose the ~500 pictures like me
hey man, plug your sd card to the computer and use recuva, it worked for me when i lost some dead space savegames

You have to be on latest CM10 nightly (15th August) to get Mass Storage.
And thanks a BUNCH! It recovered some pictures, thank God I didn't take many in the last few days....
I am on latest nightly, but nothing happens if I change the Mass Storage option in ExTweaks, any other solution ?

You have to go to Storage and then Menu button -> USB Computer Connection
when i connect my s4 to pc, the internal storage shows 3.92Gb free of 8Gb.
But when i select all the folders and files they amount to only 1.4Gb. so i should have around 6GB OF FREE SPACE.
Pls suggest how to solve this?
Details. Are you rooted? Custom recovery installed? Any large apps installed?
Same issue here:
when I open my phone in Windows explorer it says 396 mb free of 9.24Gb
When I double click on the phone and I see al the folders and hit Ctrl+A and properties it's 2 Gb.
one folder is kinda big: osmand it's 1.6 Gb I moved it allready to my SD card but apperently it's still on my phone storage.
My phone is rooted.
And I have not installed custom recovery, not sure if I can do that, I can't even update anny aps now because of of my storage problem
It's fixed now.
I used custom recovery nad whiped my phone and my phone autmaticly reinstalled my apps and it works fine now
