Want to wipe R1 HD (rooted with TWRP) - BLU R1 HD Guides, News, & Discussion

I have been using my R1 HD for about a year. I have successfully unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP and rooted.
I now want to wipe it and start fresh but do not want to lose the root. Since I am new at this can some one guid me or point me in the right direction? Can I do it from TWRP and be safe? I am good at following Instructions

no one out there can give me advice?

Keep Root or Re-Root 4.3 - SOLVED

UPDATE - I discovered a Nexus 4 thread, followed the direction (changing as needed for the N7) and voila it worked
I created a step-by-step tutorial to keep ALL data going from 4.2.2 root > 4.3 root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390286
Unlocked Bootloader and Rooted. From what I've read I can't keep root (as of now). So what is the easiest way to keep all my data and move over to Rooted 4.3? Step-by-step would be helpful....
Thanks.
The easiest way if you have stock recovery is to revert any system changes you've made (in my case remove the AOSP browser from system apps), accept the OTA update, and once it's up and running, boot into twrp without permanently flashing (which you can do with mskips toolkit) and flash the updated 1.51 supersu zip. Then go to the play store and activate the supersu app.

Worked like a charm!! Thank you very much!! Super quick/easy! Already did the OTA update and thought it would be a pain in the ass to fix, but no problem.
Mskip's toolkit: http://goo.im/devs/mskip/toolkit/google_nexus7/Google_Nexus_7_ToolKit_v5.0.0.exe

I have the same situation here, but I'm not familiar with the procedure.
"boot into twrp without permanently flashing (which you can do with mskips toolkit) and flash the updated 1.51 supersu zip."
could you explain that step by step please?
I install the toolkit - which point to I have to use? and wat is twrp?
What do I have to do, to flash the 1.51 supesu.zip?
Big thanks in advance

Is it not easier to simply use Chainfires CF Auto-Root? A couple of clicks in windows and it's done.
Does Chainfires CF Auto-Root only root not make any changes? I don't want to have to reset the rom back to factory or reinstall all of the apps. If Chainfires CF Auto-Root does just root, cool.
With Mskip's toolkit how do you root? There is no choice for 4.3, just 4.2.2.
Unless I've missed something when installing the OTA using clockwork recovery it asked if I wanted to stop a stock recovery from being reinstalled and if I wanted to keep root. This just seemed to work and gave me 4.3 with custom recovery and root - nothing else needed.

I'd like my hand held too, please. Or at least link to instructions. Thanks.
If anyone wants to actually make a 1,2,3,etc direction list, many people would be grateful.

1. I'm not sure if I have any system changes? Is there an easy way to tell?
2. Running OTA update will only remove Root, not unlocked Bootloader or Custom Recovery (CWM/TWRP)?
Am I following this right? Supposing I have removed any system changes i do the following:
1. Accept OTA
2. After update boot into recovery (Vol Down + Power) --- CWM in my case
3. Flash the 1.51 SuperSU Zip
4. DONE? I'm rooted?

OTA update, TWRP and bootloader...

I've unlocked the bootloader of my Razr M and installed a 10.2 ROM. Right nowI'm doing some experiments with the stock Verizon 4.1.1 ROM, restored through a TWRP backup I've done... I just need to know:
Now that I've unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP, if I accept the last Verizon OTA (98.18.78) am I going to lose the bootloader and TWRP? Basically, will I be able to get to the recovery / revert to CM10.2?
Thanks in advance!

You won't lose the unlocked bootloader but you will lose root. Also, the OTA probably won't install unless you use stock recovery and restore any apps that you got rid of. I didn't do the OTA, but these were some of the issues I've seen other have had. The simplest solution is just finding a stock ROM on here, I think there are a couple in the Dev area that are based off the latest OTA. Also, there is one on Batakang.

Can I root and keep the stock ROM?

I have bought an LG G6 (US997) and planning on rooting it.
Can it be rooted and keep the stock ROM?
TIA
Yes course it can lol.
Yeah you can
I have rooted h870 with stock rom but when you get a new ota you can't install then you need a zip file for the new update and install it with your twrp
Thanks for the replies!
So, the G6 will be rooted the moment I unlock the bootloader?
No ! after unlocking the bootloader you need to install twrp and root ( superSu or Magisk ) for your phone but before doing it your phone need to be a free carrier
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/development/recovery-twrp-lg-g6-us997-unofficial-t3629883
So you have 3 steps
1-Unlock bootloader
2-Flash twrp
3-Flash root
Good luck and be carefull to no brick your phone or lose your data
You should really do some more research before doing this. You clearly don't have a clue.

When you say Flash root , do I simply install SuperSU? If yes, what method of installation works? Play Store, ADB, or TWRP?
Thanks again.

I'd recommend Magisk over SuperSU at this point. Download the Magisk zip and flash it with TWRP.
If you don't root immediately after installing TWRP, your phone will revert to the stock recovery on the next boot.
Try this guide, it will answer some of your questions:

Steps to install stock 4.5.5.3 rom after deleting recovery in twrp

Unless I'm wrong, these are the steps to reinstall 4.5.5.3 fireos back into the hdx 7" thor after stock recovery was wiped in twrp.
1) Download fireos 4.5.5.3 last version from amazon official site.
2) Rename .bin to .zip
3) Put into root (sdcard) on fire
4) Boot into twrp recovery, install said zip
5) Done??? (I assume the one zip will install to the 3 partitions (.img) on the fire?
My story:
I followed the instructions, unlocked my bootloader, and installed custom rom. No problem. Problem is, I didn't make a stock fireos backup first. The real kicker, I advanced wiped everything in twrp before the custom rom. Now it seems I have nothing but twrp and my custom rom.
NOT ACTUALLY WANTING STOCK OS BACK, but I didn't root at the time of the custom rom install. I didn't care about root at the time, just the custom rom. But now I DO want root, but kingroot etc won't work now. I assume it only works with the stock install? Because I'm now on aospextended, it appears I'm on a Kindle Fire 7" on android 7.1.2
Any suggestions on how to simply get root now at the current condition my hdx is in now? Thanks alot, been coming here for a long time. I'm usually the type to just "try and see" and not really ask many questions, but man I don't wanna brick this and I know how touchy these can be.
Wanted to add a few more clear details...
Device: Fire HDX 7" Thor
Came w/ 4.5.5.2 (never updated to 4.5.5.3)
Wanting ROOT.
No stock backup in TWRP (accidently wiped)
Running AOSPExtended 7.1.2 w/ gapps Pico
Tried multiple 1-click root methods (pc and apk versions)
Installed older rom at one point (lineage11 android 4.4.4) in hope root can be made on kitkat in case nougat was the issue.
Can I still get root from any method at my current state WITHOUT reverting back to stock fireos?
Notice that I do own a second hdx 7" that I've used kingroot on BEFORE wiping anything lol and it rooted just fine. But not this one after the rom(s) install. I guess I just don't know where to go after failing to get root post-twrp/rom.

Why can't you just flash SuperSu or Magisk via twrp?
Hi, the times I've done that, ended with a reboot into the Kindle logo (gray, not the gold). I left it for ages it seems with no change. So I would reboot back. Thought: don't tell me I needed to adb at that stage... never thought about it because it wasn't showing fastboot. Hmmm

This should be easy, unless I'm missing something.. Worst case get into twrp recovery and flash Asop or whatever custom rom, Gaaps, and SuperSu or Magisk ALL in the same session. Wipe cache and reboot.

Sorry mate, not the way it works on this device (3rd gen HDX). Bootloader must be unlocked to obtain root on any custom ROM based on Android 5+. There are no (reasonable) workarounds or exceptions.

Expected symptom when attempting to secure root on a bootloader locked HDX.
Ahhh... so it somehow got locked back and need to redo the procedure?

No need to restore stock. Use MTP in TWRP to transfer (push) a KitKat based custom ROM zip to device, install and then go through bootloader unlock procedure. Suggest using Fire Nexus as the interim ROM as it is self contained with GApps and SuperSU built in.

That's what the symptoms suggest. What makes you believe the device was properly unlocked sometime in the past?

Can I do it without TWRP????

What's the procedure for flashing a new ROM?

I'm a newbie to this, so I'll be very very grateful if I get step by step instructions. I need to do all of this without a PC (don't have access to one), so please help me out!
So after getting my new mobile (4gb if that matters) today, I was thinking of using Kingo root to root, then use Flashify to flash TWRP, new ROM, Magisk, and Viper. Please guide me!
First you need to unlock bootloader with help of PC then flash twrp and take backup of old rom and flash new rom. You cannot root without unlocked bootloader.
